Necromancer with a custom condition build, scepter/dagger and staff. Took about 15-20 tries if I remember correctly.
Hard to complete, extremely satisfying to do so.

Only thing I wish was that we weren’t fighting her in a dome. The camera angles flipping around were the cause of most of my failures.

One of the best content for me in the game!

In real life, I don’t spend hundreds of dollars on a person / somebody to entertain me like I expect GW2 to do. You use a bad analogy there that doesn’t apply.

I havent spent a dime on GW2 since I bought it. That being said, I think their cashshop is fine compared to many MMO’s and offers some good luxury items, even though the RNG aspect is debatable.
So…..if you spent hundred of dollars on it, you want a better present? What if I got that same better present having spent nothing?
Point is, we’d all get the same thing anyway, regardless of money spent, or you want to be rewarded better for spending more on it? Nowhere does it say you will receive any better treatment or ‘gifts’ due to spending more.
So, if you took your friend out to dinner often, picked up the tab for things over the year and/or treated them to things out of your own pocket….you would expect them to give you more than a card and would throw it back in their face and remind them of everything you spent on them over the last year? Do you rate all gifts from people based on what you’ve spent or ‘invested’ in them between birthdays?

What I wrote has not much to do with your “answer”.

No, I do not expect to be treated more special than another player who has spent nothing. I pride myself in supporting the games I like.
But it would be appreciated to treat everyone with a gift that suggests that they spent barely more than a few minutes discussing in a meeting as a side-note.

I like account/character birthdays. No, I did not create 8 characters expecting “OMG there be birthdays eventually!!”. Almost all my characters are above level 20, so I cannot use all my scrolls, nor can I gift them to a friend who might need it.

I love minis. I like that there is a Queen Jennah mini, even though I will probably never take her out of my storage, simply because I just don’t like her or anything to do with her. But why not let me chuck my extra Queen Jennahs into the forge, so I have a shot at something that would mean something to me?

Anyway… Please do not insult me on how you might perceive I treat my friends. I would, however, like it very much if you read through my post a few times before answering, and actually answer.

Whats ignorant is expecting tailored free gifts from a faceless company that doesnt even know who you are, or even one thats going to even please the majority of the population. Had they done the same thing as GW1, altaholics would be claimed to be having an unfair ‘advantage’ due to receiving so many more RNG minis. I would bet anything the forums would be full of people raging about this. How they got slapped in the face for having fewer characters. It’s lose/lose for Anet any way they go when all it is, is a gesture.
Its ignorant to claim the gimmick gesture they do make is a ‘slap in the face’ or ‘crap’ or ‘garbage’ and go on about it like people are. If someone gave you a birthday card you didnt like, do you throw back in their face, call them names and demand something better? No, you graciously accept they did anything at all. And thats real life. A virtual life is not even close to being as serious as that.
Do you write any other software developer and demand a gift because you’ve been playing their games? Should I write Nintendo and demand a present on the Anniversary I bought their SNES? Should I write any other software developer that has online service other than MMO and demand a ‘present’ for the time invested playing and honing skills? No….because MMO’s have a unique sense of self-entitlement in their playerbases.

In real life, I don’t spend hundreds of dollars on a person / somebody to entertain me like I expect GW2 to do. You use a bad analogy there that doesn’t apply.
But since you insist, let’s do the birthday card analogy.

If someone shows up and gives me a birthday card with an ugly picture on it plus a bland text written in it, I accept it graciously and put it in my pile of cards I keep.
If that someone then 5 minutes later gives me the exact same birthday card with the exact same text in it again, yeah okay he’s weird, but I put it away and later might trow out the extra.
Then this person again gives the same thing to me 5-8-10 times in a row, yes, I will be weirded out and ask him what are you thinking here??
Then I find out he has given the same thing to everybody he knows, to top it all off.

Wouldn’t you ask that person, what is going on?

P.S.: I am not looking to fight here or call anyone names. I am simply looking for a discussion on what people thought of the Birthday Gifts, and maybe it will provide some feedback to ArenaNet.

P.S.2.: I don’t think people would have been “outraged” (as you put it) nearly as much as this if ArenaNet had decided to give something to their players that involved RNG.
When you think about it, real life birthday gifts are pretty RNG as well (from your point of view), unless you specifically asked for something and know for a 100% you’re getting it.

In GW1, I have never heard it from anyone in my guild or in local chat that people complained about their birthday gifts. Not once. Even though I was a whole year behind everyone in GW1, never did I think that I should be entitled to the same thing as those who started the game at launch.

Besides, if I really wanted one of the new birthday items, I could buy it at any time after they got released.

It was awesome.

snip

And yes, we don’t have to give them money, I am sure over 50% of these complaining players haven’t brought a single gem card yet they complain over everything not given to them. What I really appreciate was ANET giving the GEM card buyers (people who actually supported the company after initial purchase of game) thank you gifts. To me, its those “little” things that matter to me. Does it suck for the players who can’t afford to buy gems? Yes, which is why they give free stuff time to time for all, such as WXP boosters I got recently, Polla doll (crappy, lol), along with other stuff I can’t remember.
snip

Please do not speak for others.

I, for one, have spent hundreds of real life dollars in addition to the game’s starting price to support the game through the gem shop. I bought gem cards and gems directly through the TP in-game. I don’t regret it one bit.

I love GW2 and I want to see ArenaNet succeed in satisfying their fans and playerbase, because that is what’s best for everyone.

I do not feel entitled to anything, except for the gaming company I have paid my money to, to make me happy by me enjoying the game. If I stop being happy, I stop paying. Simple enough, right?

It made me feel very happy, surprised and appreciated when I got the items from ArenaNet thanking me for my gem purchases. I still use the kite and love it too.

All of the above is why I was unpleasantly surprised by the birthday gifts.
Maybe my expectations were too high, coming from GW1.
But even if that is the case, I still don’t understand the reasoning behind the “up to lvl20” experience scroll (instead of “plus 20 levels” for instance), the multiple mini Jennahs, and the booster that would put a lot of stress on me since it’s only active for 1 day, making me feel like I can do nothing else but feverishly level that character until the booster expires.

Oh, and in regards to what Koreena said. I don’t know if all characters getting a present was intentional or not, but the Queen Jennah mini being non-mystic-toiletable is not the only mini in the game. For an example, there’s the Priest of Balthazar, obtainable from the Orrian Boxes.

I love that they decided not to incorporate RNG into birthday minis. That and the fact that they were trade-able in GW1 cheapened the whole idea of a birthday present IMO. It became more about getting rich than about appreciating the character’s birthday. We already have a bunch of items that were limited-edition and are trade-able (Fused Weapon skins for example.) We don’t need to add birthday present Minis to the list.

I respectfully disagree.
I loved the idea of a random mini (or the random tonic) present in GW1.
1.) They made me very eager for my characters’ birthdays
2.) I didn’t know what I was going to get out of it (ideally, like a real life birthday present)
3.) Birthday minis and tonics plummet in price eventually, as more and more people have them (I never got anything rarer than a purple out of a gift, so I never “made it rich” and I never cared to)
3.) They made me feel like it was truly a birthday present and gift, loved talking to my friends about it, and loved showing them and collecting them.

Maybe that was sarcasm, if so I’m afraid it didn’t translate very well into text. If not, let’s just readily admit that that idea is terrible (though it would have been more enjoyable than what we actually got). I personally would have been satisfied with something like what we got in GW1 (so long as it was not account or soul bound) or even just a random lvl 80 exotic or 2… whoever made this call about the birthday presents should really not be in a position to make calls like that in my opinion.

I agree… Like I said, IMHO, the birthday gift should have had an element of RNG.
A couple of exotics, a random mini from a pool of minis (like GW1) would have made me so much happier, and would have made me feel so much more special.

First of all, thank to Anet for the birthday gifts! I was looking forward to this day!

With that said…

The ONLY thing I would have been extremely happy to see RNG in, does not have it.

I am slightly disappointed. Coming from GW1, where it was so exciting to look forward to character birthday, being able to trade great looking minis, or awesome tonics, it was a really special time.

Now I find myself in a situation where I don’t need he XP scrolls as only one character is below lvl20 (at lvl10), the mini Jennahs are non-mystic-forgeable and I have 8 of them now, and the boosters don’t feel like they affect anything except XP for me.

Why would a year old account need scrolls at boosts “up to” lvl 20, instead of, let’s say, boosts an “extra” 20 levels?
What am I going to do with 8 Queen Jennah minis in my account?

Thanks to Anet for the free stuffs, but to be honest, it doesn’t feel special

In my humble opinion, I would have loved to see something similar to GW1, where there would be a prize pool with varying degrees of rarity of the items in it, from which you’d get a random item/items from (and it’s tradeable).

Thanks for reading. What are your opinions?

+1!!

I love minis, and it would be great to be able to see other people’s little pets as well as showing off mine (I did work hard for my Liadri! ), without going crazy with trying to remember to activate them every time I do something other than run and fight.

Edit: It would also be awesome if account binding certain minis wasn’t the case. I think mini accound binding is incredibly heavy handed at the moment.
For example, I spent around 70 dollars for Wintersday Gift boxes (gem shop boxes), and didn’t get a single mini, while my friend got 3 light up golem figures. She really wants to gift one to me, and what is she going to do with 3 of those herself anyway?

Plus compensation for the ones I can’t re-do at the moment, like pumpkin carver.

Data: Little over 800 hours played, not a single exotic drop.

20 mystery wintersday boxes opened, turrets, few tonics, and a whole lot of useless ugly socks (this especially hits hard, because I spend real life money on gems, and I feel like I might as well have thrown it out the window). Edit here: also just an FYI to the team that decides lottery gem items and their drops – despite what they might believe, after this unfortunate purchase and “rewards”, I will not buy another lottery item for my money. Yes, it leaves a bitter taste in the mouth, and no, I will not be tempted to take another bite.

During the past week’s playing (this includes clearing Straits of Devastation, doing CoF a few times, playing maps while leveling), I have received ONE single rare/yellow drop while in CoF, it was a trident if I remember correctly. One single yellow drop throughout the week. This, for playing about 5 hours every day in that week.

No drops from champions or veterans.

Like someone mentioned on first page: I am losing a sense of accomplishment, of being rewarded. And that’s a very bad feeling in a game. Any game.

Lost Shores: Creating Winners vs. Losers

in The Lost Shores

Posted by: Minami Kaori.2548

Minami Kaori.2548

As i already wrote in the Lost Shores feedback thread, i fully agree.

My reward for the event after selling everything (since what i got was all useless to me) was less than 1 gold.
A friend of mine actually did the last stage of the event on 4 characters (he has four 80s) due to overflow servers being behind, joining in on people still doing the event via the join party members zone function, opening 4 chests – and he was extremely lucky, getting pretty much all the most valuable Precursors, including the Greatswords, and Dusk on two characters, making him around 600 – 800 gold (if you believe me, or if this story is true is absolutely irrelevent, it’s possible, and statistically actually very likely to happen with the numbers of players in mind).
While I’m very happy for him, I’m not so much for me.

Thats over sixhundred times my reward.

WHAT?

I always respected ArenaNet for being fair, and creating a even playing field for their players and customers, making skill and effort and only thing counting.

Now we have gambling boxes all over a Cash Shop, and random drops devaluating months of playing time (one or very few random drop(s) being worth more than you can acquire in months of playing, or even grinding).

Sorry ArenaNet, but thats not ANet, thats not Guild Wars, and thats not why I’m playing your games.
I already had that in every greedy cash shop free to play asia grinder i quit playing while i was waiting for this game to come out for five years.
While I’m far from comparing GW2 to one of those, it’s getting rapidly closer – and even the association turns me off the game.

Why should i put the effort down to “grind” another 3 months just to get the armor skin i want, when I’m already getting laughed at by people playing the game since 2 weeks, getting 100+ gold for doing nothing more, but much less than i did?

Where’s the achievement, the rewarding feeling for me when i finally get to this armor after all the hard work (which isn’t fun, i already have work when i NOT play, i don’t need to do that just to get this T3 armor skin also), when everybody and their dog already got it for doing nothing but playing the same event i did, and simply opening the same chest i did?

You managed to devaluate everything i, and many unlucky others, did, with the loot table of one chest.

Gratulations…

let’s see where this is going for me in GW2.

After playing GW for over 5 years, always having fun, and pretty much never feeling treated unfair (or at leats not much), it would be really sad to see GW2 dying for me personally, because there may just be no motivation left to put pointless effort into the game.
After all i kind of grew up with Guild Wars and ANet.

This is probably the first time i have to criticise you guys at ArenaNet majorly.
With everything else it was a case of “it’s their game, and their vision – so let’s see where they are going with it”.
But that’s not your guys vision. Thats not fun. It’s simply bad, and pure poison for the game and everything you stand for.
The easy way of RNG wins over a game once again as it seems…

/E:
The event was extremely fun, and one of the most exiting times i had in gaming, once the lagg was gone.
But as soon as i heard from precursor chest drops from guildmates, my heart stopped and i begun to worry.
As it turned out in the end, my worst expectations came true, overshadowing everything i have experienced in GW2 so far with pure negativity.

Not because it’s the end of the (GW2) world. But it may be the beginning of it, at least for me.

I can’t stand getting screwed over and over and over again by stupid RNG’s like in so many f2p’s before.
No random drop should overvalue months of playing – Period.

/E2:
This is not a case of “someone got something cool, and i didn’t”. I absolutely dislike the idea no matter if i “win” or “loose” in it.
What am i achieving by getting a super extreme valuable thing for doing nothing?
How is that fun?
And how is it fun to get only crap, while watching others getting rich for nothing?

While, as pointed out, RNG’s are necessary, you should never give them that much power.

This one says it all.

I am not going to spend my money on gambling.
I want to support Anet with my purchases, but I refuse to do so when I don’t feel like I’m getting my money’s worth. They’re digital items only.

EDIT: Maybe someone rich in-game feels like sending me one of the minipets as a gift? My birthday is on doomsday after all (Dec 21), I want to enjoy having a mini before the world blows up :P

Story Progression Blocking Bug (LVL80 Arah [spoilers])

Minami Kaori.2548

We had a full party going into Arah story mode to finish up the main line (4 guildies and me).

When we reached the point where we’re fighting the two dragons on the airship, 2 of the party members dropped offline.
Miraculously, we managed to finish off the two dragons after much dying.

Then Zhaitan started circling the ship, and our task was to protect Zojja while she wanted to fix something.
About 15-20 minutes into this, we’re dying left and right, we get swarmed by the ever respawning enemies (note here to Anet: the enemy spawn rate there is way too high). One of the people who dropped off joined the party again, having recovered from a system crash.

As we’re fighting and rezzing Destiny’s Edge, we realize we have never seen Zojja’s progress bar filling up.
She was completely bugged, running away fighting the constantly spawning grubs and lieutenant enemies, instead of working on her job.
When we had a minute of calmness, she was just standing around doing nothing.

Needless to say that after ~3 hours of fighting and conquering difficulties a group of only 3 people were presented with, having to leave the mission incomplete because of a glitch was a very big letdown.

I won’t be trying Arah anytime soon (next to the fact that it’s very hard to find a full party for this, it’s too tedious with the champions you have to fight until you get to the airship… they have ridiculous health pools), and if you don’t want to feel like you waste your time and the approximately 50 silver for armor repairs, wait til this bug gets fixed.

I have bought the recipes from the vendor, yes.

So, once I have reached lvl 375, I cannot discover any more recipes?

But then why does that one Brilliant Opal Jewel show up, while a Mithril Filigree doesn’t?

Hi!

I am level 375 in jewel crafting and when I go to the discovery tab of the crafting station, I can’t see any of my materials.

I have more than enough mithril, quite a few crystals, one filigree, etc. They should be showing up in the tab for me to discover new recipes with.

One single Brilliant Opal Jewel shows up in the tab, and a couple of first level pebbles. The rest of my materials are nowhere to be found.

I can craft already discovered recipes, so the game knows I have the materials. But as soon as I switch over to the discover tab, they’re gone.

I tried restarting the game several times, as well as my computer. No go.
