My biggest problem with my Ranger is the fact that our arrows / physical projectiles get “Obstructed” or “Out of Range” for no reason. Apparently it’s because of the terrain and they stated that it’s a step-by-step process to fix (which means it’ll be adjusted over time).

Shouldn’t a Ranger be able to auto-attack things with arrows at the Very Least? The more I read, it’s pretty discouraging.

My main is a Mesmer, and I’m beginning to think that Mes, Guard, War, and Thief are the only working classes in this game.

I was thinking of starting a Ranger. It’s the only class I haven’t tried yet, even though I played one for a long time in another game. I came to the forums first to get a feel for what ppl think of them. I saw the post about the update coming soon, but also see that there is alot of issues.

My question to the vet rangers is: Do you think I can start a Ranger, and still have some fun with it? The necros seem to think their class is so broken, no one should bother. I figured, if I start a Ranger now…by the time I get out of the newbie stages, lots of adjustments will be in place.

Just curious on your thoughts for a baby ranger.

My guess would be becuase you have too much stuff in your inventory. You can’t unequip a bag that has items in it. Sorry if that doesn’t help, it’s the only reason I can think of.

You see at lvl 80, because their is one type of PvE that mez sucks at and that farming DE for loot.

We have very few skills that is good, because mobs dies within 4 secs of them comming.

Which Mez dont got good abilities for hitting them all every time they spawn.

While a ranger, or a warrior can just spam their aoe without stop and hit every single mobs that summons and so they will get double if not more loot then a mez can get.

Yes, I have seen this arguement before. There have already been plenty of good tips on how to tag more mobs and use AoE and stuff. Granted, I haven’t gotten to 80 and found myself in this situation personally, but I’ll say this…I’m not lvling my toon so that I can be the best farming bot in Orr. At least those Chinese kids get paid to do it, though very little I suppose. No, reaching lvlcap as fast as possible to farm gold or gear, or gold for gear, or mats for gear is like some narrow WoW mindset that I’m happy to be free of.

If I’m wrong, and it comes down to that to get what I want, well…..I don’t plan on only playing one class ever. I already have low lvl guardian, eng, and necro too. As already suggested in several other threads, I’ll level eng to 80 and lob grenades, cus seriously, eng is so easy :P You just run and shoot stuff.

To enter MK’s Lab, you must find the same doors as Act 1 that you would knock to for a ToT or one halloween mob. Sometimes, pumpkins will be marked all over your map, indicating doors locations that will transfer you to MK’s Lab.

The 2 mini games are Lunatic Inquisition and Reaper’s Rumble.
In Lunatic Inquisition, you begin as a villager and your goal is to survive and get a high score. You will get scores by surviving for x seconds, giving items asked by NPCs or by escaping ghost players. Now, I’m not sure how someone becomes a ghost at first(join the game late?), but if you die to a ghost, you become a ghost and your new goal is to kill them all. Damages seems extremely random and based on your profession. By example, my leap hits for 6k, while other people would leap to me for 15k+(wtf?).

Reaper’s Rumble is my least favorite thing about Act 2. It’s Red Team vs Blue Team, first team to destroy opposite’s team skeleton producer thingy(forgot name) wins. You get 5 PToTs on a win. You can also grab pumpkin and get them to your producer thingy, though I have no idea how that works.

Halloween Events: Participate to 10 DEs inside Mad King’s Labyrinth.

It’s a Mad King World: 3/4
Mad King’s Labyrinth, Mad King’s Clock Tower and Reaper’s Rumble.
Lunatic Inquisition does not count because it uses the same map as Labyrinth.

Technically, exotics still have a remote chance of dropping from the chests. They just made it so you can only get anything out of the chests every 10 hours, to stop the market from dropping. So hop on in, beat the champion down if you can find enough people, but if you want the gear, make with the speedy gold farming elsewhere and hit the TP.

What “chests”? The BLT chests, or the ones made from BLT chest trash? Or some new other chest? Who is the “champion”? There’s lots of champions in this game. What “gear”? There’s lots of gear in this game. “speedy gold farming”? I’m not Chinese.

One of the main things is that you missed out on the many exotics that (finally) dropped from chests in the Mad King’s Labyrinth, including precursors and halloween items.

Those tips were nonsensical to someone who Just Got Home. No real relevant info related, and only barely masked ire (read: QQ). You guys are killing me. Seriously, killing me.

The mesmer is not an efficient pve class, which is probably why most people don’t stick with it. You can kill things, but it’s going to be slower than other classes thanks to the setup time of phantasms and shatters. You can survive quite well (even when geared as a glass cannon), but it takes a practice and finesse to make it happen. We’re the slowest class outside of combat afaik.

The only real reason to play a mesmer in pve is for fun. Although you’re not as efficient as other classes, you can triumph in nearly any situation with skillful use of the abilities at your disposal. Combat isn’t as repetitive as with other classes, and it’s a good choice if you like to push your limits. It does get better once you get master traits, but if you feel you’ve given the class a fair shot and you’re still not enjoying it may be best just to play something else.

Also not true for everyone. The only conundrum with mesmers is How You Want to Kill, cus we have soooo many good ways to do it, and if you wish to be fast, bursty type, then you can. The builds and videos are out there, the proof is out there.

I click with my mouse….or I did. I recently spent obscene monies on a ridiculous Naga Razer Molten Special Edition mouse that has 17 buttons, and a red light that pulses for No Good Reason. I’m trying to “acclimate” myself to it, but according to the official manual, 88% of players will take 18 days to do so. Anyways, for now, I’m much faster clicking my skills then using the mouse, but I’m trying to accilmate and stuff.

Why did I get the mouse? I’ve never PvP’d before, becuase I dont like how it’s been done in other games, and I don’t care for the testerone fueled crowd that considers PvE “nothing” , calls us carebears, and equates kitten with pts and kittenalk. But now, with this game, I’d like to get into it, cus it looks like fun and stuff. I didn’t pick mesmer cus they rule in pvp, its just a happy coincidence.

Anyways, I see these pvp vids of mes and I knew I could be even faster, but my hands just can’t do those ninja moves with hotkeys. With my Mesmer, I’ve been more mobile then ever before in an mmo, but I just cant attack fast and move well with the same hand, so left hand moves, right hand attacks….see how that goes in 18 days.

On topic, I don’t notice the changes much. I main a staff, and alt scepter/focus. I’d rather alt sword/sword cus it’s cool and fun, but im also a tailor, and I like making my own weapons. Instead of crying, I find new ways to implement scepter/focus, and I have to say that more speed to scepter doesn’t hurt, but doesn’t really affect my play either.

In closing, if you’ve read this far, I spy with my little eye two ppl who suck at mesmer.

This is not true for everyone. “Mesmer sucks in PvE until 40” is something I’ve heard thrown out as Truth a bit, but my Mesmer just hit 50, and it’s never been terrible. I keep wondering when Mesmer vs. PvE is supposed to get hard since I hear it so often from a vocal few, but since I’m 50 now, I guess I can faceroll chaos armor like I’ve been doing and maybe not look at the screen anymore.

Sorry, I know that wasn’t very constructive, but theres already TONS of good tips saturating the mesmer forums. But like a virus or cancer, these little naysayers pop in just to try and convince everyone that the class sucks, because then it would mean it’s not them, its the game. rawr /endrant

Hi, I just got home from a double shift at work today. Skimmed Halloween forums and Main page announcement etc. Anyways, can I get a concise list of whats new today? Mainpage is vague, and forum is drowning me with tears. I’m likely to hit the wiki soon, but in case its incomplete, or too vague or whatever….can I see a short list of new fun stuffs? BTW I’m loving the event, despite no craftable goodies at low lvls. Anyways, list please? I’d search, but ….you know…..tears…..drowning…..etc :/

Everytime I drank from my own cauldron, I turned into the giant frog with witches hat, which I enjoy just as much! He (she?) only has a couple attacks, but one is a slow but hard aoe stomp great for tight brawl crowds. Looks funny as hell imo and its like two forms from one skin

I was hoping for a Halloween Costume I could buy, and I got that so that made me happy. Aside from that, I was really looking foward to making my own Halloween staff, even if I couldn’t use it yet. I just saved up my first 1 gold the other day, and I spent that on my second traits book. I don’t see how I’ll ever be able to make that staff now, and it’s very dissappointing. I still like everything else, but really…..I’ve made special holiday event weapons and gear in other games before, I’d just assumed I could do this one as well.

I got my horns. It was pretty much the first thing I did after the update first went up. They were under style for 0 gems. I haven’t been on the last couple hours so idk whats going on right now honestly.

I guess the only thing I can ask again is: Why is anyone playing a necro?

Even though I’ve seen how awesome Mesmers can be in PvP, I have yet to PvP any in this game. I just PvE and done a couple dungeons so far.

I’ve noticed most of the mesmer complaint threads are about mes being hard in pve. I can’t really speak about pvp, but it seems to me I see twice as many necros out in the world as mes.

I’ve looked over the bug list, and I’ve read alot of posts and tried to discern what is really wrong with the class. The impression is just that alot of people want to like the class, but that even your best efforts won’t be worth it. I watched Nemesis videos, and even though he has an 80 and seems to know what he’s talking about his methods have been trashed as well.

My main is a Mesmer. I’ve tinkered with Necro but only for a few levels. I’m really interested in the class, and at least it’s pretty cool-and-stuff for the beginning.

I was thinking I’d like to level a Necro alongside my Mes, or at least get more into it, so I start checking the forums everyday, and it’s all so bad.

Is the class really as bad and broken as it’s made out to be? I’ve seen some complaints on mesmer forum that are easily dismissed as learn to play issues, but mostly alot of love for mes that I can relate to. I’d really like to level a necro, but it seems pointless to try from the forums.

Is it really a horribly broken class? Is it a vocal minority of bad players filling the forums?
If the class really is so bad, why is anyone even playing it or discussing it so passionately?

I hope this isn’t taken as trolling. I’d really like to get into necro, but forum basically says don’t bother.

Yes I have, and yes it is! Just the other day in fact, as I was dealing with a pirate, another starts in with that from the side. I dropped FB on him while I dealt with my target, and the little guy killed himself so fast I missed it.

In moments like these, I tend to blurt out in guild chat “Gah, i love mesmer”.

After such a time recently, my guild lead who recently has gotten 80 mesmer said, “I think that’s the mesmer motto XD”

Just a couple things:

I like using swords, but really if its dual swords. After flurry I’ll hit the block, and if I want to get distance, I’ll just step back as I channel the block. One thing I’ve noticed is that mobs never seem to hit right after flurry. I’ve learned to wait a second, and watch them if I actually want to block and stay in melee range.

Something I like to do to get distance when using a focus is to just drop the curtain a bit behind the mob and pull them back away from you.

And something not mentioned yet here is the combo fields. Remember you can phase retreat out of chaos storm, null field and feedback to get chaos armor.

I’ve had feedback on my bar for awhile….I keep thinking I won’t need it so much since it’s called situational so often, but so far (especially when dealing with pirates or bandits) I get shot at alot, so it stays on my bar. If I happen to not need it in a particuler fight, I’ll pop it and retreat/leap for free chaos armor on me or my sword clone.

I haven’t done any PvP yet, and admit I’m more PvE and dungeon oriented, but I’ll gladly feast on the tears of the “Mesmer can’t PvE” QQ.

Several times I’ve considered going all pwr/prec burst damage type either with mes or another class….but then I get on my mes and keep lvling.

Lately, I primarily run Staff/Scepter+Focus, simply because I like making my own weapons, but I really like Staff/S+S, for the powerful yet predictable staff skills coupled with the in-your-face surprise attack of dual swords (who expects a mes to block? but we totally can and its sweet)

Soooo many times I’ve found myself surrounded, multi-aggro kind of thing where you’re just like " Oh man, this is bad" , and I come out of it without even being downed.

Even when I’m downed, I rally like 4/5 times. When I die in PvE, I rage no doubt, but I know why I died, and it’s usually because my head got so big I tried to solo a Group Event boss and failed.

I don’t consider this bragging so much as facts, because time and again, I’ve been surprised myself. So many times I almost died, but DIDN’T! So many times I thought I was toast, but TRIUMPHED!

I love mesmer.

Staff, bring out clones, phantasm, run in circles. It’s really not hard. Chaos armor, drop chaos storm, run in circles, teleport out getting more chaos armor, maybe shatter illusions for fun, drop null field , tele out for more chaos armor, maybe drop feedback, tele out for more chaos armor. You get the idea. No more freebies.

I’m gonna go play the game now mk? I want to rush to 80 as fast as possible so I won’t be so stupid anymore, and then maybe you will like me and I can join your cool kids club.

I am not one to kitten around on the forums but i feel that this last patch was too much. I am lvl 68 right now and i have not touched pvp at all. I really hated my char through the first 40 lvls but I found the mesmer more complex then any other class so i stuck with it. Now after the patch I find my class more like the horrible thing i had to play before “everything was suppose to get better”.

To be clear, and on topic again, these were the OP’s statements that I replied to. In general, I do feel a little superior to ppl that cry about the mesmer being hard in PvE, because I do not think they are hard in PvE.

Notice he said “i have not touched pvp at all”. Notice I did not give any sPvP advice. Notice I did not proclaim myself anything. So ya….get over it.

So I can’t have an educated opinion until I’m level 80? Well how’s this…I’ve played 5 mesmers to level 30, because I’m picky about my toon’s appearance to a fault. I’ve never had issues yet with the class. If the first 40 levels are “hell” then this will be lolcake. Thanks for the chuckle. Sorry I hurt your feelings, just kidding (not really).

Why not just fix the tapping system.

Why should professions which are inherently back-loaded be rendered second-class to those which are front-loaded? and why should back-loaded classes have their fundamentals changed to front-loading to deal with a broken system.

the threshold for tapping should be made lower.

Health you GIVE when reviving someone who is down in-combat should apply as ‘tap damage’ to their target(s)

health and boons you give someone as support should apply as ‘tap damage’ to their targets.

I love my mesmer, and I fully support this suggestion.

I started a new engineer….was doing a low level escort event. When the centaurs swarmed us, I dropped a flame turret, and shot blindly into the crowd. I got drops off almost every mob versus the two or three I would’ve gotten with my mesmer.

My inventory filled up so fast during that event. People say that engineers are complex due to so many available skills, but at low levels, all I do is run and shoot and it couldn’t be easier.

They should have the HP and aoe resistance to last just as long, and they should no longer be trivial to kill.

They aren’t necro minions. Mesmers aren’t necros. Adapt or roll necro.

I dabbled in all the classes at first trying to see what “clicked” and it landed on mesmer for me, for whatever reason (cough…butterflies). To say you hated it for the first 40 levels, but stuck with it because it was complex…..just says to me you hate mesmers. I love mesmers. I havent even gotten to 40 yet, mainly because I keep restarting to get the look of my mesmer just right, because I Love Mesmers.

Play a class you’re happy with, and hopefully kind of good with, and don’t blame patches to a class you hated for 40 levels for making you suck.

I have to aggree, I’d like illusions in general to persist somehow. Especially in DE, they dont last a second as mobs are downed too fast.

First of all, you are about a week too late for this debate.

Having said that, may I suggest that if you were relying on phantasms to be a dps army for you, and a few more seconds is killing that plan, then you should roll a dps class, or learn how to play mesmer.
