PvP videos all kind of look the same to me.
PVE Full Rampager vs Full Berserker, which is best and why?
in Mesmer
Posted by: MrMacAndCheese.3907
I use Rampager with a Staff main and Scepter+Focus alt. I have most traits in Toughness and Condition Damage with almost none in Power and 0 in Prec. I kill mobs quickly, and for objects, I use iWarden and Lobs/Shatters from Scepter, works pretty good.
I just made my first set of Rampager’s gear. Everything has been fine until now. I’m only expecting things to be better.
I don’t know what this would look like in % and formulas, but take it as a “truth” and make it happen.

You can’t reflect arrow carts. A glamour build for WvW is great anti-zerg, but you’re just going to have to move out of the way of siege equipment. Maybe you can blink, feedback, and portal in your friends.
Just have to say here that Feedback is used on targeted enemies, not allies. I can’t speak of arrow carts and reflection of them or not, idk WvW stuff yet.
I tried the Mesmer, and I think I’m doing a lot better than my Engy.
I have more escape, more damage, and I actually seems to take less damage per shot for whatever reason. (I run toughness traits/items on my Engy, and yet my mesmer seems to be much more durable..I think it’s because of the extra low HP for Engy).
Mesmers are soo good at staying alive, and I can’t even credit it to player skill. In downed state, we can teleport away and spam f4 and often times make it. Sure, half the time you might tele right into the AoE at the boss’s feet, but not always.
I started an eng cus I thought it’d be fun to shoot stuff and have crazy boots or something. I’ve only gotten to like lvl 12, and of course it’s pretty easy at that point. You just run and shoot stuff. I’d like to lvl it more someday maybe, but medium armor is mostly ugly unless you are a Pirate from the Matrix.
If something is hitting you and hurting, whether its from a source that has LoS or not, you should double tap a key to evade, or maybe use a defensive skill if one is available.
I’m trying to narrow it down between Necro and Ranger.
I was interested in both as well, and still am, but to judge from their forums, both are garbage atm. Which is pretty funny since you will see SO many more necros and rangers then mes in game. At least I do.
Whenever I come across these Wishlist kind of topics…..Like “Mesmer skills you want”, “Mesmer suggestions to polish”, “Mesmer sucks, what I Would Do” yada yada, I tend to glaze over them.
It’s always the same thing. Like….Mesmer has a bizillion trait, weapon, utility combinations, but that isn’t good enough. Let’s pretend that WE designed the class, and THIS is what we would do better.
It just comes off as " I can’t learn this class, it’s too hard, so change it to make me happy ."
Osicat was the OP, and his OP misteriously disappeared. That is why this thread makes no sense.
Soring vid, somehow 1st song wass blocked in most of the world…
I saw it, but now it’s gone. So strange. Come to Eredon Terrace. We need help.
I once heard that a room full of monkeys would eventually write all the works of Shakespere.
Please transfer to Eredon Terrace. We are practically invisible in WvWvW since everyone jumped ship for free. We need more ppl ready to retreat through portals all the time.

Mesmers get better at 40 only if you buy the secret book that unlocks special skills. (i.e. put 20 points into a trait line)
The class is very mediocre if you put 10 points in each tree, wear random gear, and slot random skills. The class is incredibly strong when properly built, especially if you can make opponents fight on your terms.
This is true…..for any clas cough profession.
This is the first MMO I’ve played where Crafting was not only “viable”, but totally worth it from lvl 5 +
I’m a Tailor and an Artificer, and I make my own armor and weapons every 5-10 lvls. I NEVER get drops that are better then what I make myself. I just salvage them all for more crafting mats, and I love that so much.
All joking aside-ish, let me relate a little true tale:
I decided to AFK on what I thought was a Safe Beach (despite some shady scallywags lurking about ) so that I could go to the kitchen and make a sandwich. Shortly after, I heard the cries and moans of my Mes being beat down. I ran in and saw I was surrounded by two drakes and three pissed off crabs all trying to kill me for no good reason.
At the time, I was working with Power and Prec stats in gear with GS/Sw+Sw and barely any traits to speak of. I did this , I did that. I used GS knockback, I used GS pretty useless AoE cus they were all in a tight bunch up on me. I switched to dual swords, did the clone-swap-root (which honestly probably didn’t help me so much in this situation), but blurred frenzy did, and as I channeled the block, I took a few steps back to get some space and re-access the situation. I think I went down once, but rallied, and killed them all.
I went outside (IRL now) and told my bro " I love Mesmer", and told him all about it.
TL;DR This one time, at band camp, I totally didn’t die with my mesmer, even when I was making a sandwich.
To add: from what I understand so far, Beserker benefits a damage dealer the most. That is….a Mesmer who is bursting down enemies quickly, and therefore not investing heavily in Vit/Heal or any kind of party support, but being that Rock Star selfish dps type guy that you love to hate.
It woul be nice to be able to be a damage dealing machine that could reflect all projectiles too, but that would also be OP, no?
Like with all classes, we are made to make the tough decisions of the roles we play, yet given the freedom to do so.
If you are intent on hurting things quickly with a mes in WvWvW, but don’t like being shot with arrows, then best bet is to make a friend like me who is willing to support the team so that they can do what they do.
As far as I know, the only Anti-Projectile abilities we get aside from Feedback are given to the Focus with a hefty amount of trait points in Vit/Healing w/e the silly name is they gave it, I forget.
I’m working towards a build like this, only for more support in Dungeons. I have yet to see how well or useful it plays out.
That being said, you will sacrifice alot of traits for the added reflection skills that are highly situational. I would not go this route at all unless you count on being heavy support tactician type.
Role aside, I’d say you can go one of two ways. Increase your strengths or even out your weaknesses. In my case, alot of traits into Vit/Heal is giving me more hp then I really need. As you probably know, mes is a slippery evasion type tank, and more hp is probably not neccesary. However, the Healing increase might help since you can have Regen from phantasms, and that might play a part in your support role.
Personally, I am trying for those additional reflects and whatever heals I can use to aid in a Dungeon Party, and seeing how that works, but I will be using Stats on gear to fill in the gaps such as Power, Precision, and mostly Condition Damage as that is my main killing stat when I am soloing with Staff/Scepter+Focus, and not being support.
For me, this is a current work in progress, so I can’t say how well this all works yet, but as this is something I’m also working on, I thought I’d share my current views.

I missed that thread. Not calling you a liar, but if there is one thread that states this with proof, and stuff, I’d wonder how to discern it from all the other threads that teach you the multitude of ways to Hurt Things with a mesmer.
There you go
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Mesmer-PvE-Omg-O-whyHeh, I watched that video a few months ago. It might be nice but it’s PvP. I’ll watch it again but I don’t expect much.
Also just for you: wee-wee.
What works on an intelligent, human controlled enemy should work just as well or more on several, stupid AI mobs, no?
This is strictly PvE.
I read on this forum people saying Mesmer is easier to level than Guardian, seriously wtf,
Btw, Guardian is boring as balls.
I missed that thread. Not calling you a liar, but if there is one thread that states this with proof, and stuff, I’d wonder how to discern it from all the other threads that teach you the multitude of ways to Hurt Things with a mesmer.
I put in “mesmer damage” in Youtube and got this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scCKlAxSIIM
Took like 15 seconds.
You said “balls”. lol
Use a staff. It’s so easy it’s silly. Just hit the skills on cd, stay in melee range, run in circles. When all skills are on cd, switch to whatever weapon choice, doesn’t really matter. After weapon swap is off cd, switch back and repeat.
You don’t really always have to run in circles. I just do it sometimes so that I feel like I’m working for my kill. This may sound cynical or sarcastic, but just try it. Seriously, you don’t even have to move alot of the time. It’s so easy.
TakaEagle.9486
I got a level 40 mesmer at the moment which indeed takes a bit longer to level rather than my ranger (where his pet just tanked the mobs). Can i ask why is it that people say mesmer’s get better 40+?
( I heard that Ranger’s pets are one-shot-dumb-AI broken. So hard to tell what is True.)
Don’t you know this is a race? This game is GW2, which stands for Orr Farmville. The goal is to get a character to 80 as fast as possible so that you can farm Orr everyday until you hate your life. If you win, you can afk in front of the TP in Lion’s Arch and imagine that anyone cares. Bonus cred if you have several endcap toons. Lvling every class as fast as possible obviously makes you an expert in every class. And stuff.
Yeehaw!

Even though I don’t currently use it, I like the Greatsword alot. However, I still believe it is strongest when used as a ranged weapon/closer.
The temptation is easy to see. I mean, you become a laser cannon. But to me, ppl that rely on it as such and too much are only cheating themselves. GS is best used to whittle down hp until you are in melee range, or to give you space with knockback if melee is currently exhausted, or you just need space to move, or you are playing intricate interupption games.
In general, I think GS is best used in a strong, up close melee build, as ranged weapon for evening the odds some before you get up into the fray. Just my opinion, and certainly not the only way it can be used.
I would not, however, at least in PvE, count on bleeds from GS from being my main damage output.
I tried many classes before I clicked with Mesmer. I’ve played Tanks and Healers in other games, and aside from the Mes, Guardian intrigues me the most. However, since I fell in love with Mes I’ve had a hard time playing anything else.
To the point, the main reason I’d like to lvl alts is ideally I’d have an alt doing two different crafts, and they could all benefit each other. What I’m seeing though is that this isn’t really efficient or economical since all crafts share some mats, and you are bound to buy some from TP sooner or later unless you want to be a gathering farming fiend.
I play a mesmer that mains a staff and alts scepter+focus. I determined to make it work, and I have, but honestly I like dual Swords as an alt, only cus its fun to me. I like the evasion dps style. But I don’t do it lvling because I can make all my weapons through Artificing, and I like that. I’m a Tailor too, and make all my own armor. I tried swapping between Weaponsmith and Artificer to make staffs and swords but it was too expensive, and having a Guardian alt that makes weapons is proving to be no more economical since they share items like leather or poison sacs.
I’ve decided to continue with my Mesmer to 80, hopefully before the big update, simply because I don’t want to be shut out from events in higher lvls like I almost was in Halloween ( I had to struggle and barely got the last page of memories ).
Once mes is up to 80 though, I hope to lvl Guardian, simply becuase there is a great relief, after melting things indirectly with a mes, in getting on a Norn Gaurd and just smashing things in the face with a ba hammer

These Big Bang Theory formulas not only go right over my head, but they totally suck every drop of fun from a game for me.
If you are using Greatsword and Sword+Sword or Sword+Pistol, then you are going for direct burst damage and boosting Power and Precision through traits ( since those boost swordplay ) and might as well get some Crit Damage in there too since you’ll be criting like a beast. So that would be Beserker’s right?
Even with Sharper Images, with this playstyle you aren’t relying on bleeds to melt you target. You are taking them down fast, the bleeds just make it hopeless for them to heal.
With any other setup like Staff, Scepter and stuff, I’d focus on the Condition Damage more, and use the Power, Prec to supplement the lack of in traits you will need to boost Condition Damage ( excluding bleeds from sharper images). So that would be Ramager’s.
(edited by MrMacAndCheese.3907)
Oh, I just re-read you are playing a mesmer. Then I have no idea lol.
and stuff.
Mesmers have a shatter skill that will burst all clones and Daze the target. We also have a seldom used Mantra skill that Dazes (i think). We also have a skill with an off hand sword #4 I think, that channels a block, or else double tap for a Daze projectile.
Our Domination Trait Line, which is our Power Line, has several traits that benefit from Interupptions ie: Daze.
I apologize if I’m not totally accurate in all this as I’ve been working on a diff build and stuff, but in general, I think it’s safe to say a Mes can render you incapable for an alarmingly long period of time in PvP if traited right.
Whats the Staff/SP - shatter build everyone is talking about?
in Mesmer
Posted by: MrMacAndCheese.3907
I don’t know what everyone’s been talking about, but it all works great. There isn’t one good build. Learn the class.
^^This is what I’m saying. It’s becoming routine to see this QQ on the forums every week by a Thief, or Warrior, or Gaurdian who just got spanked by a Mes, and so they thought they’d make a Mes, and then cry cause it’s hard to kill Skritts.
Probably shorten the duration of Moa Morph, this would at least shut the vocal minority up. Otherwise, we’ve been nerfed quite alot the past several patches (the Phantasm Build), not really sure anything else needs nerfing.
If they lower the duration, I would like the coold down lowered also then.
Otherwise, another useless ability.
I’ve stopped using Moa Morph in PvE. While it does help to render a Champion pretty useless for 10s, their HP doesn’t change, and in the end, no one is able to damage him better then before. Time Warp is better if your team is coordinated, or even lucky, in the case of random DE.
I find myself using Balthazars Hounds, as a Human solo lvling, then anything else, cus they just kitten for you.
There have already been numerous attacks and counter attacks for Moa Morph, with vids and stuff, but it is all PvP based. Moa doesn’t help so much in PvE, and its been proven to be survivable in PvP, so just let it go.
Nerf portal, MOA and Time Warp
You know, it’s funny but no dungeon groups have hit me up for Portal yet. Or time warp even. I actually almost have to beg like " No wait dont get spiked, let me portal you , i totally can!"
They also don’t know when I drop Time Warp too often. I run with my guild, but we are often running with ppl we haven’t run with before, so it’s like a PUG, but without the hate.
My point being, that these skills may seem OP when you just got spanked by them, but they are still underused in many other situations, and any nerf to them would make things seem…..pretty hateful.
Like the to ppl that just want to clear dungeons well, and don’t care about PvP. I know, it’s weird, but we are out here, and it’s our game too.
Greatsword needs an ethereal field, or at least some field.
Oh yeah, that too. The GS AoE thing. Right now it’s a total Throw-Away attack as far as I can see. It’s a total waste of a skill space. Make the range larger, make it strip more then one boon, make it better in any direction, but right now, its a trash skill on a stellar mesmer weapon.
I’d like to see a buff to Scepters auto attack so that it could be a little more then a mosquitoe bite while spawning nearly useless clones. I alt a Scepter just cause, and this is one thing I really think it could use. It works well as a dps weapon, except the Damage is pretty poor. It doesn’t have to be over the top damage, but if the clones it spawns are to be pretty much useless shatter fodder, which is the case atm, at least the little purple lobs could hurt a little more.
I mean really….what do you want? Instead of playing a class you understand and enjoy, you just hate. When ppl try to help you, you just hate. At least two forum pages of useful tips and tricks, and you just hate.
I didn’t video capture my lvling, lol and stuff. Why would I? I tried several classes when I first got GW2, and I clicked with Mesmer. I hope to try others later, but that’s that. I thought I’d love Thief the most at first, but I felt so squishy, I died so much. But I didn’t learn the class, and maybe I will later.
If you want to learn the class, all the info is here. Warriors and Guardians dont “melt”. They smash and break and crack and stuff.
“Melting” is like that Malboro Bad Breath from FF that hits you with Poison, Sleep, Paralyze, Toad all at once…..
Only Mesmers we hit with Vunerability, Cripple, Poison, Burn, Bleed….and with Staff at close range, we get buffs for all that like Protection, Regen, Valor(?) and stuff. Coupled with the Something Elasticity trait, we get double bounces, so double all that.
Rashiakas, you are a Terrible Mesmer. There is No Hope for you.
Rashiakas.2459
@ Quelris, I’m not sure if you’re serious either. Ever heard about cooldowns? So you use Staff for clones. Gives you two. Then you shatter them. Doing about 20% of 1 mobs HP in damage. but only if you’re lucky enough the mob didn’t one shot your first clone before you get out your second.
Staff gives you ONE clone and ONE phantasm. Together, they are known as Illusions!
Seriously, learn the class before you cry a river up in here.
“Rashiakas.2459
@ MrMacAndCheese, I really don’t believe you “melt everything” with a staff on level 1-40. Unless melt means takes ages to die. A warrior melts. A guardian melts. A mesmer is whittling down."
Thankfully, for all of us, I am not Santa Claus or Jesus. Your Faith is not required for Facts to be True. Just be sure to thank that Mesmer that res’s your Warrior on the next Dungeon run.
^^^dont forget the boons you get at close range ;D
Qelris.6901
Staff, shatter and weapon swap. Staff is a defensive weapon, not something you’re going to kill with. Either way, you can kill something in less than 30s for sure.
Lol, sorry….I know we are on the same side and all but this is another falacy I see popping up lately. I kill stuff all day long with my Staff, and it’s so easy too. It’s totally different then using GS/Sw, but with enough condition damage, I melt everything. The defense is just a plus.
Rashiakas.2459
So how long are you invulnerable in melee? My guess is 2 seconds. Then you get torn to pieces.
Wow this is like a pop quiz in school or something. I don’t want to do this, because it’s a poor substitute to you taking the time to read almost Any Other Thread and learn the class, but ok….
As you approach, pop #3 clone, then swap for root.
- blurred frenzy for invulnerability/AoE damage→Mirrior Images utility for two more clones ASAP→shatter all three with F4 for more invulnerability
If you want to stay in melee, then dodge or block with #4 Sword.
If you want to get some distance, then step back as you channel #4 block.
Or use that “too gimicky” focus to place a temperal curtain behind the mob and double tap it to pull them back away from you .
You know, either you want to learn how to be good at mesmer or you don’t. It is just a game after all, and there ARE 7 other classes…ahem…professions. If you don’t care to study up on the class, and it’s making you miserable, then just don’t play it, y’know?
So........mesmer pve complains....do they really only apply to Orr farming?
in Mesmer
Posted by: MrMacAndCheese.3907
“Celestina.2894
So yeah, I’ve been wanting to make a mesmer……but I keep hearing they’re horrid in PVE and yet everyone’s complaints seem to focus solely on DE orr farming. So would that weakness only bother me if I cared about Orr farming (I don’t, at all) or should I know anything ahead of time about PVE in general for mesmers?”
I’d have to ask you first: Why have you been wanting to make a Mesmer?" In the first place.
“Rashiakas.2459
Leveling a mesmer is a pain. As in, from 1-34 (my experience so far). I know mesmer is godlike in pvp, I believe you it is cool when you are 80 and have all traits. But I am talking about my leveling experience.
Also, if every week someone complains about something, don’t you think there is at least the possibility it has some merit?”
Look at the Elementalist forums, look at the Necro forums, look at the Ranger forums.
One person a week complains that Mesmer is too hard in PvE, or too OP in Pvp, but the majority loves it. Compare to Ele, Necro, Ranger forums where everyone is so upset by bugs and such and hate it so much you wonder why anyone would play one.
No I don’t think it has merit…not because there is an overwhelming majority on the forums that disagree, but because my main is a Mesmer, I just only hit 60, and I’ve never had a hard time. I’ve just never understood these ppls hating on the PvE so much. I really, truly believe they are just not willing or able to learn even the basics of the class, and in the meantime, they spread naysayer negativity all over us.
Look: get a staff and use it. Stay close to mobs and run in circles.
Get a Greatsword: keep your distance, kite. If they get too close, knock them back.
Get a pistol: use it. It pretty much takes care of itself.
Once you feel daring, get dual swords and see how long you can be invulnerable evasion tank for fun and stuff.
lol sorry had forum issues, and no those guys aren’t 1-40, I know. I was making the point that the info is out there. Are Mesmers on par with other classes 1-40? Yes they are. Are they the same? No, that would be pretty lame, yes?
I promise that I didn’t have any trouble lvling my mesmer 1-40, even though I tried different weapon sets, utility skills, and traits. I don’t have any video proof of it, because I’m not good at the interwebs, and making vids and posting them and stuff. I’m just really good at video games.
It’s not the class, it’s not the game, it’s just you.
Give me a link to a thread where I can actually see proof of someone playing a mesmer 1-40 in a way that is on par with other classes. I would love to be proven wrong.
:/
drops mic
If you don’t think a Mesmer can burst, then watch this. It’s not the only vid of its type, but it soundly gets the point across.
If you are having trouble with more then one mob in PvE, then watch this:
If you are totally new to the class, but really want to understand it, then watching parts 1-3 of Mr. Prometheus guides is a good starting point.
I’m sorry if I was a little crass before, but seriously…..it’s like every week, but learn it and you will love it. (Unless you are a pvp’er who got spanked by a mesmer from another server, then transfered to the winning server and made a mesmer. There is no hope for you. :/)
It’s not the class, it’s not the game, it’s just you. Not trying to be a jerk, but these types of topics pop up about once a week. These mesmer forums are saturated with tips and tricks, and builds for any type of playstyle with a Mesmer, and they are all “viable”, so I’m not going to try to repeat the plethora of knowlege that’s laid out in pages here. What I will say is that I suspect these “Mesmer sucks in PvE” ppl have already lvld another class, and are trying to play Mes the same way.
Mesmer can be played so many different ways, it’s ridiculous. I only PvE so far, and I’ve tried GS/Sw+Sw or GS/Sw+Pistol with buffs in Power and Precision, and that totally works. I’m currently running Staff/Scepter+Focus with buffs in Toughness and mostly Condition Damage, and that totally works too, in a different way altogether. That’s why mesmer is so pimp.
To try to be constructive here: study the mesmer if you really, really want to be good with the class. There is so much good info out there.
I know next week there will be another thread like this. Something like : “Mesmer PvE Omg :O why?” But I’m telling you true, I only PvE so far, and the only thing that makes me sad is that Mes has So many good utilities and abilities and builds, that it can be hard to settle on one.
I did try the tower a few times, and while I never got past the first part, there was one thing I really liked. As I sat in the lobby several times waiting to go again, listening to the doomsayer npc’s, I really felt like I was in the lobby of a Haunted House about to meet my demise. It gave me that cool spooky scared Halloween feeling more then anything else in the event!
Now, while some people do argue that flashiness isn’t that important. I know people that think that weapons should not be as big as they are and that the trail of sparkles is distasteful.
You are going to notice the trail of glitter from the legendary Greatswords before you notice the laser from the legendary Rifle. Bigger weapons also have more to work with, so they are more noticeable.
I love playing my Mesmer. I’m designing her to be something like Princess Peach/Barbie mesmer
Having said that, I didn’t feel too let down about not getting any Halloween skins as they did not fit my motif, even though the Greatsaw is incredible. However, I’m hoping for a staff one day with LOTS of sparkles, glitter and whatever else….flower petals, rainbows, butterflies etc. I want LOTS of flash for my Mesmer Staff lol! I haven’t seen any of the Legendary Staffs yet, or even looked into it yet as im only 57, I’m just sayin.
Errr….more On Topic, I don’t think the Greatsword got too much attention so much as the other weapons didn’t get enough. For the detail in the skins, which was nice enough I suppose, they should’ve been easier to get.
(edited by MrMacAndCheese.3907)
I was thinking about how the pic reminded me of Flame Legion armor (I think that’s what it’s called…). Maybe this is just how the Mad King would look if his helmet box was unchecked.
From Wikipedia: “Concept art is a form of illustration where the main goal is to convey a visual representation of a design, idea, and/or mood for use in films, video games, animation, or comic books before it is put into the final product. Concept art is also referred to as visual development and/or concept design.”
The final product in media like this will often be different from the concept art, yet contain what is deemed the best elements from many pieces of concept art.
If you are wondering why they didn’t use a more accurate depiction, I couldn’t say. I can only assume it was the coolest picture they had :P
I loved the event, but I was really looking foward to crafting some kind of event gear. Crafting in this game is better, and more useful then I’ve ever seen in a game, and I actually enjoy it. Having only epic items that only a few could craft was a big let-down. Everything else was great though.
