If you want something difficult and frustrating try the Necro or Engineer.
I don’t want to start a fuss here. I will say that I’ve played Necro and currently Engineer, and my experience is different. Giving evidence or supporting statements to your opinion would help validify it.
I have an 80 Mesmer and Guardian, currently leveling an Engineer. They are all fun. Guardian is like a mac truck with a big hammer (mine is at least). My eng shoots stuff and bombs stuff. If I wanted, I could be throwing grenades and using a flamethrower….what’s not to love?
Mesmer…..well mesmer is fun to me, but maybe not to just anyone. Try one to level 30 and you will know if its fun to you or not. There’s alot to say about mesmer, but better to try it yourself and check mes forums then get into it here.
I will say that I started with Mesmer because it was so unique and complex, at first, to me. I felt it would be a good challenge, and help me learn the game well. And it did, and it is fun. However, I have to say that I learned more by tanking with my Guardian more after the fact. At least learned more about group dynamics. Leveling my gaurd was easy and fun, and she’s still fun to play anytime, but I feel I better understand the other classes in relation now. idk if that makes sense….
Don’t listen to the naysayers though, check every class forum and you will see plenty QQ from people who just can’t play, learn, or adapt. It’s all fun.

The game is played all over the world in different time zones. It wouldn’t be the same for everyone. Plus, I tend to play at night more then day, and I would hate it if it was night in game.
I don’t understand what game you are playing. There are always more then 3-4 hearts in every zone. Way more then that in fact. I can always get to anywhere I want pretty much with or without roads. If a POI, node, heart, or whatever seems impossible to get to, it usually means its underground and you just need to find the cave entrance. Exploring and discovery is part of the fun.
Even though you use words like “sterile” and “bland”, I don’t think that’s what you really mean, since your complaints suggest that you are just having a hard time leveling an Elementalist solo.
I played TERA long enough to get a Lancer to lvl cap, and lvl’d several alts about halfway. Even though I used an Xbox controller, I still tended to use the same combo of 5-6 skills on each mob. Fighting a BAM was the only exception, and the only fun to me really. Even though I could move around, and didn’t use the keyboard to attack, it really is still the same thing as hotkey gaming.
Also in TERA there are only a few mob types really that are repeated over and over with only slight grapical changes and pallette swaps, so it’s pretty grindy and tedious to lvl more then one toon to cap IMO. So, I enjoyed TERA’s combat for a time, but it’s not like completely brand new or anything, just redressed hotkey action with a move function.
As for my time with GW2, I enjoy the combat in general. I have an 80 guardian and mesmer and several other alts. I enjoy the gameworld: the graphics, music, DE’s, lore enough to enjoy my time playing the game even though the combat is not always hard or intense.
The only thing I would like is more options I guesss. Taken as a whole, there are alot of weapon, utility, and build options for each class, but it seems in reality there’s only a few good ones for each class. Idk, it’s hard to for me to complain because I’m still having fun with GW2.
I think sometimes people, especially older gamers, just get a little burned out after 15 yrs of mmo’s or whatever, so I take breaks to do other things, play other games, and if I really do enjoy a game, I’ll come back to it. I don’t really know how to respond to you except to say that this is how the games are played, and even though they have some differences, they are all takes on the same ideas. Even in the older, classic FF’s, though you might have 20 different magic spells, it didn’t mean you would use them all.
What will happen next? Their will be Party Groups saying “Only Full Ascended gear only~!” Is this wat the majority gw2 users wants? i don’t think so…
For now ….Yes….you hav to get a ascended gear..its clear
Hope this changes in the next patch…Forcing every user to play fotm is not a good idea for the gw2 game and for the gw2 community.
I feel that this is a valid concern, as there are already people who won’t run even Fractals lvl 1 without a full party of 80’s. However, this isn’t news either. It’s a dead horse we are beating until something new happens.
I did have a bit of a problem with the Norn quest in Wayfarer Foothills that has you raiding a Dredge mine and killing the workers. Not just the soldiers, the workers too— the ones who spawn unaggressive.
You don’t HAVE to kill those unaggressive Dredge workers though. I make it a point never to attack them unless they attack me first. Which often results in situations similar to the scene from Black Hawk Down where a US Marine has his gun trained on a woman running up the street and muttering to himself, “Don’t do it, lady…” And then she pulls out a gun from under her burqa and the soldier shoots her before she can fire. In my case, I’ve just killed a hostile Dredge Ratnik who attacked me first, and then I see a Dredge worker running over to the Ratnik’s corpse, and I mutter to myself, “Don’t do it, buddy… Don’t do it!” But the worker runs over anyway, picks up the Ratnik’s rifle, screams “FOR THE COLLECTIVE!” and attacks me, forcing me to cut him down too.
Dredge events are tough.
If I recall correctly, there is one Heart to fill in one dredge cavern for a Dredge dissadent. He states that many of them are in fact slaves forced to work, and requests your aid in starting a rebellion.
I remember recently talking to a Human officer near Sorrow’s Embrace about the Dredge, and my character questions the aggression towards the Dredge. The officer says something to the effect that: The dredge were slaves (to the dwarves, I think?), but now that they are free, they have to fight for land, just like everyone else.
It was a cold remark that caught me off gaurd, and actually made me think for while, even as I had to fight them.
The Moletariat is indeed complex.
(edited by MrMacAndCheese.3907)
Also I’d like to make a point here, as everyone is bringing up the option to Knock on a Door of a Sepratists Hideout….
There are other options, one of which is TALKING to the Sepratist, being diplomatic. And in doing so, you and the npc both will see where the npc’s rage is coming from, where the motivation stems from, but yet, they reconcile and repent due to your counseling.
I think this point is just as important, if not more, then the right or wrong of kicking in doors.
What makes it egregious is none of the other race’s “rebel” groups are treated like this – we don’t drag the Inquest from their beds or murder the Sons of Svanir in that cave in Hoelbrak.
Fact check: In one of the Norn storylines, you do in fact go into the cave in Hoelbrak to save-by-beating the wolf spirit creature that’s been corrupted by the Sons. As a result, the Sons attack you to try and stop you, and you must kill several of them in that cave.
I wish I could point my gun at the charrs instead. Those subhumans responsible for bringing in the undead.
Fact check: A human is responsible for the ghosts of Ascalon. During the war between the two races, the human king used a power he wasn’t forced to use to basically kill everyone on both sides, and then he cursed his own people to forever hunt the Charrs.
i guess if you’re a 12 year old conspiracy theorist
….busted.
PvE is the same. It’s not up to us as a community to convince you to play again. If you didn’t like it before, you probably still don’t.
On topic, GW2 PvE is fun now, still.
thanks for the detailed answer. it sounds like the same ol’, really. one thing upsetting for me is the grinding it takes to get these ‘bragging’ rights in gw2. At least in other mmo’s, this grinding is in a large raid, and the ‘bragging right’ is more than a simple aesthetic appeal.
i agree with you in that it’s a fantastic game. the combat is polished, graphics beautiful, and overall a very engaging gameplay. it’s just too bad the way they set up the content kind of backfired on them in that most of these open world areas provide hardly any end game experience, though they are, i’m sure, excuciatingly time-consuming to create.
The way that you present back-handed compliments here, I’m pretty convinced your a mole of some kind. Like Blizzard is paying you to come in here and say,“Ya, it’s great, but don’t you want more?” and disguise it as an actual player with a concern.
Take your hate out the door, your busted.
For some weird reason, this situation reminds me of Skyfall…
Didn’t see it, care to elaborate?
I don’t really know how to put it. But the mole thing and the busted just reminds me of the movie. Didn’t watch it yet but the moment I read that comment, I thought of Skyfall immediately.
Awesome! That doesn’t really make sense, like how something someone said reminds you of a movie you haven’t seen.
Just like how OP said:
I noticed that lots of new content was added in.
or how he’s obviously PvP oriented, yet started yet another thread about PvE endgame, as if he cares. Makes alot of sense.

the majority of naked women would be played by sixteen year old boys who for some reason can’t just watch some porn and be done with it.
Because men older then 16 no longer enjoy nude women, right?
Or if they do, something is wrong with them, right?
Right?
What I do mind on heavy armour, however, are the stupid boob cups,it just looks funny.Fine, show their breasts, but please, on non revealing armour, stop making ridiculous circles around them,it just looks funny.
Breasts are very sensitive, and need protection. Why do you want to squash them flat, with no support, and pretend they aren’t there? Your remarks confuse me.
Why is level 80 better then 79? Cus +1. Who wants to be the best you can ever be one month after the game is out, and then just soak there for the next five years. Honestly, haven’t you folks played RPG’s? Didn’t it suck when you had nothing left to kill or get in FF7?
Most of us did play Guild Wars 1, which did exactly as you described. And ya know what? We loved it.
Not every game has to be WoW to be enjoyable.
I played a game where I shot fireballs from my bare hands, and did flaming Dragon Punches. It was called Street Fighter 2. It was very enjoyable, even though it wasn’t Guild Wars, or Guild Wars 2, or WoW.
I’ve never even played WoW. Read my post again, and actually think about what I said.
The red circles mean what you think they mean. Have fun!
, i only assume you dont have girlfriends or wife.
But you don’t assume it’s by choice. When I hear about gamers with gf’s or wives, I assume their significant others are making plans to trade up behind your backs, because they’d rather get some sweet lovin or help with the kids, but you are too busy judging strangers on a forum.
In short, you assume too much, and you know what happens when you assume…

While I don’t think every class using any weapon would be so good, I do like the idea of a Pool of possible weapon skills for each weapon.
While that would make things very interesting, I’m not sure we are ready for more customizing options. After all, there are tons of ways to build a toon through traits, utilities and gear, yet some people insist we can only dps period, or that there are only a few builds that are viable. Test out these other builds, challenge yourself to build a toon that won’t work, then see if you can make it work.
It’s just another Wishful Thinking thread, where someone won’t make the game work on it’s own terms, so let’s change the game to make everyone epic regardless of skill. Or not, who knows.
This reminds me of a story from the police blotter where a woman pulled over a cop to report that she had just bought some crack, but in fact had gotten soap chips, and wanted the cop to get her money back.
from what i have seen girls like seeing their characters in revealing clothing more than the guys do.
what has this world come to?
Why do straight guys want to run around as a bulging, rippled He-Man? It’s an ideal I guess. In some cases, it’s what we would like to be. It’s fantasy.
I think the important thing to note here is that there already is revealing clothing in the game, just not very much of it. So for those that like it, more options would be appreciated. For those that don’t like it, well it’s already in the game, so I doubt it would hurt you anymore then it is now. (pic 1)
For my Norn Guardian, I got the most revealing clothes I could because 1) I’m a straight guy who loves sexy women, and 2) You can see my star tattoos better. I especially like the little ones on the upper thigh. My guardians name is Jen Nova, so I have a star theme going on here. Full armor with helmet on would make Norn tattoos pretty pointless. (pic 2)
As far as practicality or immersion: There is no blood or mud in the game. You never get dirty, and even when your armor is broken it always looks sparkling brand new. Also, my toon is a barbarian to some humans in a way, so my ways would not neccessarily be your ways. Think about that before you judge.
I realise also that with my helmet on, I am leaving the most vulnerable organs open to attacks. That is why I have a shield, and Aegis ;D (pic 3)
Hands down my favorite areas are all the Ascalon areas, all them fall colors and whatnot. Just get rid of all that ugly char architecture and it would be perfect!
I couldn’t possibly pick one spot as the best. I love it all, but aggree here that I love the fall colors of Ascalon the best in general. The music there is pretty sweet too!
I’d like to quote Mark Twain, from “The Diaries of Adam and Eve”, ( I think):
“Naked people have little or no influence in society.”
My personal opinion? Stretch marks, pimples, and hair, oh my. It’s overrated. Hold out for Scarlet Blade or go back to TERA with the patch.
Sum: We need more endgame options/progression, and we need the class and build you choose to matter more.
More content is coming. Also, the Class and Build I have matters plenty. I’m built to tank and provide buffs, and it’s totally working.
BTW, I love mesmers in a party. I love to smash my hammer in their chaos storm, and see chaos armor applied to the whole party.
This is a different game. This isn’t that other game. Learn how this game works, and you might like it better.
Salvage low lvl gear. If you plan on getting map completion with a character, you will pass through several low lvl areas where it drops in bags as killcannon said, or you will get low lvl drops to salvage as well.
When I first started this game, I thought at one time I should farm bandits for the fabrics, but I soon learned its faster and funner to just complete starter areas for each race, and get from above mentioned sources.
Well, if power/damage is your main concern, then you should be using ruby orbs or a more damage-oriented rune set. And if flat stat increases are more appealing to you than bonus mechanics, then you should use orbs or crests rather than runes. To some people for some builds, however, the bonuses really are worth it.
Another way to keep a passive bonus would be to go for a mix of runes for boon duration. If you want to keep the healing theme you have now, 2 water/ 2 monk/ 2 Dwayna or 3 water/3 monk are nice.
I wouldn’t say power/damage is my main concern…or that knowing how to max that is an issue. As you say, for some builds, the bonuses from runes are worth it. I guess I’d like to know what sets are worth it, and why.
As for boon duration, it is not an issue. AH self heal build through boons on others doesn’t require that the boons last long, only that you can pop alot of them off regularly. I’m giving up on the “healing theme” because I just don’t see any way to maximize healing without utterly crippling the other stats. Aside from that, I would say that 2x any this or that runes mixed together probably isn’t the best you can do.
It’s getting a little too hybrid jack of all trades, and not getting the best out of something.
0/0/30/20/20 is standard.
^
either go like this for absolute resolutionor you go
V0/15/30/20/5 for more ‘crit’ based tank: altruistic healing through might stacks on crits.
omnombery pies + maintenance oil required, but doubles the DPS output with the same survivability.IMHO, tank guardian is defined by his runes, which are 2x water+ 2x monk+ 2x earth
for extra 30% boons duration with 50% protection duration. What exactly makes the pies/oils required? Is absolute resolution really that powerful? Or is it the loss of 15 points in virtues?
It’s not required. I’ve yet to use food or oil buffs. They are just buffs, and will help, but the day a class relies on food buffs to succeed is the day… I mean it helps but if you couldn’t live without it, you wont live with it.
Power/damage is not everything. And while we have the option to spec for passive condition removal via Signet of Resolve and Purity, it’s always better to have on-demand-removal. I am currently the (bugged…) Pure of Voice trait, but otherwise my only condition removal comes in the form of the Absolute Resolution trait.
Power/damage is not everything, but it is something. I have remove cond on crits, with hi crit chance, and that flaming ring that removes cond on members, burns foe, and creates area might with mighty blow. Between all that, I’m handling conds ok.
Having said that, I can see the allure of cond removal on shouts as I use them alot per AH build. I just don’t see the price difference in something just as good, or maybe even better.
It is good, no doubt, but with all the other ways that we have to remove conditions, I don’t see where it warrants a 4x markup in price.
Especially since you are losing out on any power at all for cond removal, which again can be had in several other ways.
Ok so just looking at it:
6x Crests of the Soldier gives:
120 Power
84 Toughness
84 Vitality
6x Superior Rune of the Soldier gives:
0 Power
50 Toughness
165 Vitality
Shouts remove a condition
It seems to me that one would come out on top with the Crests, yet they are 1/4th the price of the Runes on TP. I can see the benefit of more Vit and Cond removal on shouts, but at the cost of toughness and power, I don’t understand the difference in price. Is there something I’m missing here?
I run all shouts in my utilities so Rune of the Soldiers 6/6 is perfect for me (lots of vit and toughness along with condi removal). For more versatility, you can run 2/2 Superior Monk, Water and Major Water for 50% Boon Duration increases which works well with any guardian build centered around boons.
Im pretty much shouts too…I guess what I don’t get is: wouldn’t full Crests of the Soldier give you more then full Superior Rune of the Soldier?
I’m just not sure how Crests work. :/
I’ve got an 80 guardian and trying to decide what’s best to put on my armor. In short, can we use crests on armor same as runes?
My main issue is that I’ve gotten my power, prec, crit damage, and toughness all in a nice place, but I am lacking in vit and healing. Healing….I’m not as concerned about as a little more vit, as I’m just under 14k.
Atm, I have full Runes of Altruism on armor, which I’m sure isn’t ideal. I get more healing, and grant couple buffs when I use #6 heal skill, which works with AH, but it’s situational. Runes of Mercy is pretty gimmicky, yet I res ppl SO much, it wouldn’t be totally worthless, and I’d get a little more tanky from it.
What I wonder the most though is if I should just use Crest of Soldier or something else, or if I even can, haven’t tried.
It seems that Runes are gimmicky while Crests are flat increses….are they interchangable? Can Crests be used on anything?
Is there a Rune that is better then any Crest in your opinion?
We have the #3 on hammer that is an AoE root, #5 I think on GS that can pull, #5 on spear and trident that pull or sink respectively. It’s not cripple or chill, not sure if this is what you meant, but there are these.
Oh ya, the chains on scepter root also.
Also we have the spirit hammer that can knock down, as well as the hammer itself having launch that interupts/knockdown. Also a signet that knocksdown.
We don’t really need to slow or cripple foes, because we outright stop them or put them on their backs.

Use Superior Sigil of Life on a weapon, and it will increase your Healing with each mob killed up to 25 stacks until your downed or travel.
Sven Ironclad, Spirit Guardian!
The knotwork in the armor matching your knotwork tattoos looks fantastic!
The same reason you can chill ice elementals, or burn fire elementals. Laziness.
Embers are Immune to Burning.
I just want to add that the first 20-30 lvls can be challenging for some due to lack of utility skill options and traits. Try getting one class to lvl 30 at least, and you might find it gets easier.
For example, on my guardian, I had to be mindful at first due to my low hp, and little else to work with. Now at 80 though, I can take tons of damage with no issue. Not that you have to wait till 80, just saying that it does get easier.

In Spearhead Bane, the grave of Kilroy Stonekin, “known for blindly charging into battle”. Reference to Leeroy Jenkins.
When I made it to the top of the tree in the Hidden Garden, I was so proud lol. Had to capture the moment, though composition could’ve been more impressive. Someone should get some more from up there.
Is it barely 3 hours into January on the east coast, or am I crazy?
When GW1 came out, I didn’t have internet or a good pc. I noticed it coming out, and looked fun and interesting, but I couldn’t play it.
Years later, I have net and a nice pc and start playing mmo’s. I never went back to GW1 because it had been several years, and I suspected that it was long dead.
I was totally wrong, and the more I read these forums and posts from GW1 vets, I’m sad that I missed out on the golden years.
Whatever happens next, I’m really glad I was here from launch. I think this game is amazing in many ways. I’m excited for the future.
As the topic states, if you no longer WvW what keeps you from logging in? Just interested in what drives people away from this feature.
The topic doesn’t say “no longer” WvW, just says “Do you…?”
Not trying to nitpick just to nitpick, but it is different. Having said that, can you tell me why I would or should WvW?
I haven’t yet, but I will one day. I want 100% map completion, and sadly that has included a pvp aspect. I feel like I’d like to try it out someday, but since I’m not a pvper at heart, it’s at the bottom of my To-do list.
I just get no satisfaction from fighting other players in a war that never ends.
