If the learning curve seems insurmountable, rest assured it is not. However, it is not Diablo. Part of the fun is exploring new builds that you haven’t tried before.
OMG! Okay firstly…you might wanna go read up a bit more about how to play the game. I’m not trying to be mean or anything…but you clearly are missing out on some aspects of the game mechanics…basic aspects. Press “h” on your keyboard and explore the menu a bit.
Builds involve using certain Traits that you select in the hero panel. To be more effective and have more survivability…you need to select these.
Welcome to the game Moondancer, GW2 is unlike any other mmo on the planet …mostly so there is a bit of a learning curve. Also there is one involved with playing an elementalist. My play style is very different now than when I first started this game.
You will have to learn the “dance with death” which if you have read the Legend of the Seeker series then you understand it’s origins but essentially like others have said, this involves learning to rotate through the attunements to achieve various effects. Can you get by just staying in Fire? Sure you can. Is it as much fun? Depends on what you call fun. I personally fell in love with daggers and those are my main weapons most of the time. They provide high mobility and once you learn the skills and effects, allow you to dance around foes easily.
You may not like to dance though, in which case I would suggest not just adjusting your traits but also equipping armor that uses Power, Vitality and Toughness. You will lose a significant amount of your outgoing damage but gain a bit of tankiness in return.
But remember, you are the squishiest of the squishies and you cant just stand there while foes smack you.
Another thing to note is that the mid level zones are mostly really weird in how you get downleveled and so while you may in fact be a level 80 you tend to have even less health and power than a zone level equivelant character…you just get more utility skills and advantages from maxed rune sets.
Two pages of responses is hardly enough for anyone on the dev team to even notice, let alone bring to anyone else’s attention. I wonder how Ruby feels about it.
It’s enough to make them notice, just look at some other threads that have developer responses in their first page. The issue is not if they will notice. The issue is if they will do anything about it
Apparently I could be wrong…since typing the comment above someone on the team merged all the other threads about it ….or it didnt show on the front page anyway…
So maybe someone will see it. I’m still not holding my breath about it.
The expansion has also been crashing clients for no apparent reason. If you’re on a 64 bit Windows machine then I recommend downloading the new 64 bit client. It will reduce that significantly, though lag is still an issue.

It wont get reverted because we are not their target audience. They don’t care what we think.
I only have HoT because someone bought it for me as a gift two days before launch. Had I been able to know all of this was coming, I would have told them to save their money. I don’t just mean the visual nerf, I mean everything else included.
I guess this may help eles a bit in WvW and PvP …make it a bit harder to track down where they are by following the fireball back to it’s source. I don’t play either so I really don’t know.
Just one more thing on my list of things to make HoT feel…meh.
To me this visual culling is stupid.
In FFXIV, you have an option to cull OTHER PEOPLE’S EFFECTS, and leave yours intact.
Yeah, and in every other MMO ever.
Which Anet is constantly trying to remind us all that they are not, by not having things that SHOULD be in the game as QoL improvements or just…y’know…common sense.

If you are spending $80-$100k on a single Guild Wars 2 account you might want to seek help.
If you are trying to compare the business model of the in-game store…I still think of a car as a much larger purchase, especially a luxury/performance vehicle than say…a new set of clothes, toys or gear to use while trekking around the countryside. A much closer comparison would be one of those big grocery stores that also sells hardware and other home/workshop items. You’ll find they do similar things in the local Wal-Mart. Just try to find Pumpkin flavored hot cocoa or Egg nog outside their respective seasons.
Are they worth it? Absolutely! I use mine anytime I make a new character so that I may skip the entire NPE effected levels.
With as quickly as levels can go in GW2, you don’t really need gear to be packaged with it. You can easily out level any gear you might get as well. I am speaking as an experienced player which means I know how to go about getting things done and ignoring the fluff.
There are gear boxes you can buy at the TP that will supply armor of a particular level but since it is a player crafted item, it may be hard to find the level you are looking for. The Laurel vendor also has crates but they contain one piece each.
My Razer Naga makes it very easy to open bags, or use luck essences. The Razer Synapse is a nice interface. Maybe you should buy one.
Though one downside to it is the occasional random fast double-click I get when just normal single-clicking on something…even just in Windows. When that starts annoying me I just turn off Synapse as it’s not necessary for the mouse to work either for normal use or for gaming, only for the macro that makes clicking on that stuff a breeze.
I think it’s safe to say that our generation (those in their 40s and 50s) are the original video gamers. Who recalls the first time they saw Asteroids in a grocery store? Or Pong???
I think you should encourage her to give it a try if she has even a passing interest in video games. Maybe even if she has no interest at all…just because it would be something new for her to try. Maybe she will grow to like it.
Yes Vayne we are guessing, but it is based on what we have observed where as your guessing is purely conjecture and hopefulness.
This never ever happened to me in any city whatsoever, maybe its just you? Have you tried actually clicking the specific character instead of spamming F? That might make a difference ^^
Yes, because mouse-clicking on the specific banker character when there are twenty or so players all mobbed around each one is soooooo much easier. Many times I can’t even find the actual banker npc amid all the players so “spamming F” is my only option.
Thank you to all of you who somehow manage to never have this problem or care about it for commenting. I for one would LOVE to see all of the random npcs who only serve to make that interaction difficult, DISAPPEAR!!!!
Who even goes to the bank when Crafting stations do that, and more. The only somewhat arguable point is Lion’s arch, where the bank has proximity to the Forge, and is a long distance from the Trade Post…… but we all know they did that to help sell the agents on the gem store.
Because not 100% of my in game time is spent farming or in the PvP lobby at the bank or TP. But thank you for being clever to point out another option to access the bank.
I could also just buy a bunch of bank access wands or whatever they are. The banker golem is also an option for those with disposable income. Wish I were one of them.

That smiley face offends me. It’s so offensive that I feel you are swearing at me right now.
And just because you may think otherwise doesn’t make it true that swearing does not add emphasis. Let’s try this again. The other player says “Get out there need to fail” but wants to add more urgency to his/her statement, so they say instead “Get the heck out there need to fail” are you still just as offended or insulted? Perhaps we could use something a bit more unusual…“Get Mooshie out there need to fail”. In that instance do you know who or what Mooshie is? No? But perhaps you think this is an NPC and start looking around…clearly they want you to get them out of the area.
But no, swearing may not always be necessary, polite or inobtrusive…but it is always clear. It is clear that the other player wanted to be listened to…because they wanted to do a retake of the temple.
I find it interesting that many of the folks here apparently siding with the OP are condoning and encouraging the very same behavior they claim to be reporting.
There is a difference between being a kitten to an innocent player who just wanted to play an event, and being a kitten to a kitten.
If he just asked normally I would back away. I wouldn’t have a problem with someone wanting me to back off so he can do things his way, I have a problem with people insulting me for no reason, and if I can strike back at them without risking a ban I will.

I’m sorry…I guess you were talking about another incident. If the OP quoted the “offending” player correctly then I did not see any offensive or insulting behavior at all. Adding the “F” word did not change the players statement, it only added emphasis. They could just as easily have said “Get out there need to fail” and the meaning would stay the same…even if not in perfect English.
I suspect however that the OP might have found some other reason to report them or otherwise be offended. The fact that the OP even started this thread suggests to me that they know full well the situation but were choosing to be a “Guiding light” in how this game should really be played.

Is it the players fault that re-taking a temple is more rewarding than holding it? And why is their definition of having fun (getting loot) somehow empirically less honorable or worthwhile than your definition of having fun (playing the game as you think it was intended)?
Maybe what those players should do in response to your desire to hold out is call in all of their friends to scale up the event without actually contributing to its defense. How would one or two parties fair against five champions at once?
I want to know why so many of you people who claim to be playing the game “the way it was intended to be played” insist on delivering all manner of grief on those players that aren’t playing it your way?
Except that it doesn’t show events that occur anywhere in the zone. You happen to be close enough for it to show…that is clear in the map, is the escort up near the north entry into LA? Would you know without waypointing there? No, you wouldn’t unless someone called it out.
My point about the karma vendors really should have been noting how it seems they are abandoning this model, after all where in Dry Top or Silver Wastes can you buy any new looking armor for karma…or any armor for that matter?
Then what about a completely new armor class dedicated to allowing the skins to be worn on all armor classes, something of an override armor class that only applies to outfit skins?
No.
Can’t we really just enjoy outfits for what they are? Stuff that’s, well, an outfit. It’s not supposed to be mixed and matched. It’s an outfit. Like, say, the Balthazar outfit. It’s an outfit to make you look like Balthazar. I imagine it being like Halloween costumes, more or less, rather than armor – it’s just a nice plus to being able to wear them into combat.
I do enjoy some of the outfits. In fact, my main (Biyx) utilizes the Arcane Outfit in every design I’ve come up with thus far, and I plan to use the Crystal Nomad outfit on my ranger once she’s finished. I do understand where you’re coming from, though. Outfits are meant to be just that, but they take a bit away from the options in customization the game has built up thus far.
But that’s the kicker, here: options. Outfits are optional, as are skins, and we can have both if we wanted. I just wanted to hear the opinions of others to better understand the outcry and praise the outfits received versus new armor skins.
Yup, I think mostly the praise is coming from the fact that they seem to be bringing back the stuff we had in OGW. More or less. I still miss the interchangeability of the old clothes.
I also think they should stick with the way the rest of Tyria has karma vendors with one set of armor for easier content and then the exotic gear for main events (Renown hearts vs. Temple gear).
It would also be nice if they would think a bit more about the sets they DO design and release…i.e. the Noble medium outfit: gloves that appear to go all the way up the arms but in fact are just covering the hands. Can we avoid those sorts of inconsistencies in the future?
Also, the cost for anything new that has new features I would expect to be more…but having matching sets for a reduced cost would be good. Say Balthazar and Grenth’s regalia on sale for …maybe 1000 gems?
(edited by Necrotic.7820)
MrWubzy that is pretty much what Town Clothes used to be…but clearly they had issues internally with doing that, hence why we have what we have now.
More of both.
With the release of the Balthazar regalia perhaps they are intending to do as they did in OGW, except I hope that it doesn’t take five years for all of the Tyrian gods to be represented.
I mostly would like to see more armor skins as they can be mixed and matched unlike the outfits, namely more cross type looks. Fewer trench coats, skirts and well…plate armor. Okay I will admit it is a bit hard to think of a type of heavy armor that doesn’t ~look~ heavy…but still…maybe something for the Sylvari that isn’t the cultural stuff.
Maybe even some armor that resembles the old town clothes look in some fashion.
Disappointed with the registration for Beta.

They will probably just use the same RNG from the game to pick them. Since that gave me one pre-cursor since launch….I’d bet my chances are pretty slim.
i hope it’s a new ascended armor set for crafting so it needs some time and not everyone will get it (fast).
No. Make it outfit so everyone can use.
We don’t need more time gated “privilege”Please no. I don’t care how many people run around wearing it, but an outfit means no mix & match. I want it as an armor so I can pick it apart and combine it with other armors to make a cool look.
I say make it an outfit because every pieces look very good, and no mix and match is required. Also that means all classes can wear it, not just the heavy armor classes.
So remove any customization just because you want it for your caster?
Personally I don’t care for the leggings but I’m thinking it’s a full suite of armor.
Well since it seems to be the same armor that is visible in the concept art and the trailers, it’s probably going to be available in some way, my guess is that it will be “rare” armor that is acquired by completing some achievement.

I’m fairly certain Gail already knows the answer to this question. That isn’t the problem. It’s a matter of when she will be allowed to say anything about it. Most likely she will be allowed to answer either the day of release or…if we are lucky…the day before. I myself don’t expect an answer before the game is available to the public.
I can tell you didn’t play the original game. Not once did they do this during the run of GW…nor would I expect them to do it now. Too much potential money involved.
That’s not to say I wouldn’t ~like~ to see it happen…just…learned my lesson on the first game.
+1
I personally wouldn’t mind seeing more info in the pop-up, but if it’s not going to be there then ditch it completely.
What has irritated me most about this bag system is that they should have LEARNED from GW …it was only in GW:EN that they finally decided to give us equipment packs that would hold your weapons and armor you use. I suppose now they might say it’s impossible to code it into GW2 ….or stay silent until they feel they can put it on the gem store for 800 gems or whatever ridiculous amount they would charge. Anet, don’t do this again…I am seeing signs of it starting and I will not buy into it. I will stop making any effort to support the game if it becomes clear they are just going to keep little QoL things like this out until the masses will cry to pay for them. Resettable attributes came along not even a year into GW. A year and a half later they decide to make traits adjustable without cost and out of combat…while I was happy for it…I still ask what took so long?
I know…it’s a game, but seriously…why can’t we have equipment packs here too and be able to swap weapon sets out of combat? Even Elementalists. Did all of you just forget everything you learned working on GW?
Just came across a mithril node near the Sacred Trust POI in Frostgorge Sound…I had an Orichalcum mining pick equipped and yet, still only mined ruined chunks of ore.
