I recommend you look at crafting. I say this because as a newbie, your magic find isn’t very likely to result in drops that exceed Masterwork quality, which can be easily achieved in crafting. If you are collecting materials from nodes while doing your normal daily routine, then essentially it’s free.
If you start now then it will be easier to keep pace with your character leveling and thus you can always have weapons with the stats you prefer. Same with the armor but it’s not as cheap as it used to be due to the addition of Ascended recipes using tier 2-4 mats.

In general crafted weapons and armor will have better stats in certain ranges than anything you can get as a drop under rare quality. Just don’t try to craft anything using ecto until you get to level 70. Those recipes are meant for vets who have tons of gold to blow on spare gear. xD

Personally I found it very enjoyable to be able to craft my own upgrades while still leveling. Yes I did this back before Ascended armor was a thing…but if you are collecting your own mats the TP prices shouldn’t have any effect.

It seems you were also bothered by the fact that no one was answering your questions in mapchat before the fight. Maybe they felt you should go find the answers yourself since it would likely take them a while to give you a rundown of what happens and what is needed. Maybe they all thought someone else was helping you. Maybe they didn’t care since there are so many places to find the information they figured you’d find it if you cared to.

Maybe any number of things contributed.

You really don’t need to justify how you play to us. You want to filter out any possible useful information in an open world boss fight by turning off map chat that’s your business.

No it’s not like sitting in a jet fighter either…because you would be ignoring the voice in your earphones giving you information on where your firepower would do the most good.

I’ve noticed a little bit of toxic chat during some events but it happens, people get frustrated at constant failure because of a lack of cooperation or whatever they see it to be and since it is sooo easy to grief people in the game without any possible recourse. Well, it happens.

It’s called battlefield awareness…it helps to know when things are going poorly or maybe, I dunno…say a vital position is in need of assistance because they are taking more fire than was expected.

So you got to the fight so early that asking any questions was kinda pointless as most likely anyone who might have answered you hadn’t arrived yet. It’s also possible that those who were in the map at the time didn’t know the answers. I would have to make a few assumptions about your experience like: that you were constantly asking for info every two minutes and that you were explaining that you hadn’t done the fight before.

And then as the fight begins you shut down all forms of communication with the group just so you can watch your numbers fly by? So when you were hitting the Pulsing nodes for zero damage, what thought went through your mind? It’s entirely possible that someone was actually giving directions during the fight, but you wouldn’t have known it. Maybe the people who would have answered you were too busy making sure the pre-events got done.

I’m sorry if this feels like a personal attack but it really is your fault. You severed the communication link. As for the toxicity of the mapchat, well…can you blame them? I mean if they are trying to get people organized and get them to do one particular task but everyone is too busy plinking away at range to notice…to them it just looks like they are being ignored by people who don’t really care.

Find some minor or major runes that all have a power boost but are different types, a rune of Hoelbrak, Strength and so on…and just max your power. I don’t think it makes as much of a difference in the mid levels as it does early on….but I think there is some increase.

In the end you will have everything unlocked both skills and traits, so there is no reason to start over, just go on playing and keep on adding. Just make sure you add to both skills and traits so you can start using the traits as well.

In the end yes, until then just trudge along in whatever trait and skill line you put points into first because of course you were new and didn’t know any better. Heaven forbid we should actually have a way of resetting those points and skills to something more useful while leveling up. Not like we were ever capable of doing that before.

That’s right you’re just supposed to spend money on gems to buy gold to spend on mats to level up by crafting.

Anyway, yeah…sorry but maybe if you don’t have much invested into the character right now, remaking them might make leveling a bit more fun if you have a good idea what sort of build you want to use while leveling.

Allow classes to wear any armor skin (except)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Necrotic.7820

Necrotic.7820

The whole post from Curtis Johnson:

We do understand and sincerely apologize that there are creative combinations of town clothes that will not exist anymore. Many have asked why remove town clothes as a concept. It boils down to we believe better armor skinning and the outfit system is something we can add more options to more often and will produce a better supported RP game for everyone with more variety in the future. In short, a healthier game.

To expand more on what I mean by better support, It helps if you think of town clothes as a 4th weight class of armor. Clothing was meant to offer visual options that break the class roles, however we were never completely happy with the way it was isolated from the rest of the game and still felt largely the same. Many pieces could have easily been mistaken for light or medium armor. In many ways it was more akin to building an alt character because town-clothes and armor were so separated. Additionally, every time we added something to town-clothes, it didn’t really help someone building their light, medium, or heavy look. And there was no way to add combat gear fairly without creating 3 versions on the back end (light, medium, and heavy). As a customization platform and sustainable expansion design it left a lot to be desired.

When we started looking at bringing more of the clothing back into armor with mix and match styles there are some fundamental incompatible things between weight classes. (part of how we set up every armor to allow many dye channels and styles per piece).. There really is no way at this point over six years since we started development to make absolutely everything work together. So we needed something new to continue to grow in the future.

Outfits give us a way to create highly stylized looks that aren’t constrained to armor slots or weight class. In addition to armor skins that are easier and cheaper to collect across characters and the account dye system we do believe the options across a players whole account are much more attractive now. You’ll see more outfits coming out this summer and additions to the game more often usable by your characters. We try not to allow too much ‘hoarder’ design where we just keep stacking more and more options on leaving lots of unsupported things hanging around. Yes, we do have to give up some of our current closet space and clothing to fit the new wardrobe in. Again, apologies for that.

As always we ask you to try out the new system of customization and see what’s available to you. I think many people will be surprised by how many pieces have become armor compatible. We hope the benefits to the outfit system and wardrobe in terms of future support and additions will be clear, and you can look forward to more new outfits coming very soon.

Imagine that…Town Clothes were a Fourth armor class…just like so many new players have asked for who aren’t aware that they ever existed.

The system that replaced Town Clothes was deemed better by them because it simplified what was originally a complex system that would have required time and effort to create new assets for…in other words, more money to pay people to design the things going into it. Okay, I get it…cutting costs.

“So we needed something new to continue to grow in the future.” = They needed something they could capitalize on that required minimal effort to maximize profit.

Where are these new cheaper and easier to collect armor skins? Without purchasing HoT you got a total of One new armor set.

I haven’t spent any real money in the gem store since they removed Town Clothes.

No. I do not think it a good idea to give people like those you are portraying the tools to effect other people in the game that they paid for, especially when the people metting out these penalties would not be held to anything but their own ideal for what is considered offensive or rude behavior.
As evidenced by this thread, we do not all agree on that point. Or do we? As I can’t be certain your responses are genuine and not part of this attitude you are attempting to convey, I can only say that it’s possible we may not agree.

No, you’re not missing a hidden set of armor…not yet anyway. Supposedly Legendary armor will have the ability to swap stats out of combat but I don’t know if it’s true. Legendary weapons have that ability though so it would seem in line with the tier.

I personally just crafted my various sets as exotic gear. It’s not prohibitively expensive and some I even used a karma merchant for as it was a more common stat set. Some sigils are very cheap…others not so much. I also have the ability to craft the armor and weapons myself if I feel the cost is a bit high on the TP.

“Also, if I go with an “outfit” I am stuck with the entire thing not just one part of the outfit. It would be nice if we could separate bottoms, from tops in order to mix and match what we want from outfits, but I gather the reason Anet created “outfits” to begin with was to offer a complete look without having to cobble together different items for it.”

Yeah we probably shouldn’t bring up that entirely different and 100+ page thread about Town Clothes…

Anyway, I too wish there were more “pants” available for light armor users in addition to just more armor sets in general…for everyone. I mean I thought the generic character models were for people who had a hard time knowing the armor as well as graphics quality…I dont see how anyone who doesn’t use them would care if my ele looks like thief but throws fire.

In GW they enforced the differentiation of classes by armor type but it had a silhouette to it and there were no outfits allowed in PvP. In GW2 you can wear outfits and most armor is meaningless for looks since I doubt anyone relies on it as an identifier of a class.

I really wish they would just stop using it as justification for the way they do it. I’m fine with keeping the distinction between light, medium and heavy armor but stop making all heavy sets look like they are metal plated turtles. After a while I began to despise the party dresses, masquerade costumes and noble finery that seemed the only option for my ele who grew up on the streets fighting for her survival.

First there is the “New Player Experience” which is what Anet did to low level zones once Black Lion Chest Key farming began to impact their sales of keys in the Gemstore…they also claim it was designed to help out new players. It eliminated certain mechanics and changed how some events worked in addition to the revamping of skill acquisition. It also quite nearly guaranteed that most new players are completely unaware of certain mechanics until later in the game.

I’m also reasonably certain that most new players have no idea how to use the chat system and don’t bother to either ask for help at an event or even announce it so that others have a chance to participate in it. They would rather spend 10-15 minutes fighting a single boss with their two friends, dying repeatedly than call out that a map boss is up and get a bunch or people to show up and “steal their loot” from them. Maybe they don’t even know that they CAN communicate with all of the players in the zone.

Improving The Wardrobe System In GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Necrotic.7820

Necrotic.7820

I’m guessing you folks are new to the game. A few months maybe, possibly up to a year or so?
You see I can guess this because at one time the wardrobe system as they call it, did not exist. We started out with a very clunky system of armor and what was called Town Clothes. They were two seperate tabs if you will. Town Clothes could be switched to out of combat but as soon as you used a skill or took damage from any source including falling, you would revert to your armor set. It was annoying but we made it work because we had five slots for town clothes to fill; boots, legs, gloves, chest and head. Very much like our armor pieces.

They could even be mixed and matched at will and several different pieces could be used to obtain totally different looks. Back then we had transmutation stones. They could be earned a few at a time for each map completion. Those were stones for armor up to level 79 and then there were special stones for armor rated level 80. Those were only found on the gemstore…but for about the same price. It was a fun time as people could have lower level toons and farm stones fairly easily if they wanted to change. Which they did all the time. Of course the downside to this system was inventory space. Transmuted armor was soulbound unless you did it to a white piece.

Then the wardrobe system came into being…and there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth. All of the town clothes were turned into either outfits or tonics, the majority of them tonics. People left in droves over this change. All role players, but still…people who regularly spent a small amount of money in the gemstore.

Okay maybe not in droves, but I knew people in game who were upset over the change despite the positive side to it. Some of them left. I was nearly one of them. I didn’t want to like the new system, after all how can taking options away be a good thing? I got used to it I guess…I just haven’t spent any real money on gems ever since.

TLDR: The system used to allow more customization; they took it away. They’ll never change it unless they can make a ton of money on it.

As for your idea: I see what you are suggesting, however I don’t want the looks to be tied to something like a tab that cannot be changed once set…what if I only want to change one piece? Also…earning charges isn’t as daunting a task as you think. Of course maybe you don’t have a character slot for it so I understand. Many players have a “charge runner” slot in which they make a new toon and run around the five racial cities to earn the charges for map completion.

Though I do like it for the idea of having a set look that you can swap to immediately, like a Guild Uniform or your “Commander gear” for showing off all of your most hard earned pieces.
I miss the old system from GW…we had four weapon sets we could swap at any time. I even recall the reasons that the armor set was taken off of those tabs early in beta. It seems no one left at Anet remembers or even cares. After 10 years we still can’t sit in chairs.

[Suggestion] Key Ring [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Necrotic.7820

Necrotic.7820

What I don’t get is this: GW had lockpicks after a while that were used universally for the most part, to open locked chests found in any zone map. Why did they think it was necessary to create a new key for every new zone in GW2? (nevermind, it’s likely cuz none of those people are still around)

Now I do NOT want a repeat of that…with lockpicks being something you buy…but yes why not a key ring in our wallet for all of these things which each toon must have, even though every character on our account can access our coins and other stuff…I might get closer to using up my crowbars then.

Also…this should just be an add on to the wallet….not a gem store purchase.

I mean I personally have crafted the invisible bags myself to hold my gear that I keep on my characters. It’s noticeably cheaper that way but I also stack everything not in them from the top down so that as loot comes in it fills the bag after the stat food and other things I don’t keep in the invis bags. Maybe you should first try using things in the game that can make it easier before crying for the devs to code a new feature that…really isn’t needed.
