Suggestion: Racial Changes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Necrotic.7820

Yes, yes as a web developer you think it should be relatively easy to make this happen because you know how all the bits work for a web page. This (the game) isn’t a web page.

Now I’m no web developer or programmer so feel free to criticize my lack of experience if you like, however as someone who has had to make instructional books outlining how to do a job for new hires I can see how this would be essentially impossible. Not based on actual ability to get it done but the sheer volume of changes that would be necessary. You refer to the table which has the selections for each race and think it should be easy to just go through and change bits….but imagine that they do this for you changing from human to norn…which story selections would it get replaced with instead of the “Street rat, no parents, Balthazar alignment”? It’s not as though there are equivalent paths in the Norn story. The easiest answer is to reset them and let the player choose again, because players would not want Anet to make those choices for them. Then all progress on the PS would have to be reset as they may make choices that impact how they arrive at “Victory or Death”.

If they are just resetting the PS then why go to so much trouble, just remake your character. But of course you don’t want to lose all those valuable items and progress that you made while getting to level 70 ish.

Seriously, just get over it and make a new character. Buy another slot or save all of the things you want to keep and delete the old one. This is the price you pay for having so many options with your character, how much it cost you is entirely up to you, as in what value you place on having to redo all of it.

After all, is it worth it to spend all of that time redoing everything to end up with a character you will actually enjoy playing? Only you can decide.

Interesting replies, however I agree with Sweet, I don’t think you should be able to whisper someone when you’re pretending to be offline. It doesn’t make sense although I’m sure someone could post a time when it was advantageous to them for it to be this way.

To me, wanting it to stay the same just so you can throw insults or snarky one-liners without retort isn’t any better a reason.

I recall way back in GW beta making all kinds of suggestions for better chat functions and more control over your chat, including more windows. Things never changed back then so I am pretty skeptical of getting anything to change now. Even should the whole community rise up and say “Yes, we want this.” I don’t see Anet ever making it happen.

Someone please explain finishers

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Necrotic.7820

No. I don’t want to have to finish off any more mobs than I already do. I avoid the Toxic Alliance left overs whenever possible. As for the “Why do I get a downed state when no other character does?” Because you’re a Player…not AI. If we add it based on this then I want to be able to load as many copies of the same utility skill as can fit on my bar so as to chain them all, or maybe a special “Player Skill” that can be selected from a bunch of check boxes to be “Unique” to our character only.

In case you weren’t sure, I am totally against the whole concept of having to Stomp anyone…players or mobs.

Efficient Way To Craft Marauder's Armour

I’m not sure what you mean Thomas by “standard” and “improved”…Anet changed all ascended recipes to require Damask patches. It was part of their solution to the whole medium ascended armor being so cheap to craft, that resulted in sky high leather prices, and things haven’t really gotten better.

I recently crafted some medium gear and used gw2efficiency.com as a guide for which was the lowest cost to craft.

(For the record, you can’t go totally AFK and let the turrets do the work. They’re not that tough, and even if they’re not destroyed they don’t last all that long. But you don’t need to pay as much attention as you do during “normal” play, either. So the AFK accusations were half true, at best.)

About half the people I play MMOs (all MMOs, not just GW2) with do something else while playing. Either watching movies, videos, etc. They do this while actively participating in dungeons (quests in other MMOs). So if people have a character standing in one spot killing something over and over while eating lunch or watching videos, who cares except people who are jealous?

This. Exactly this and the bit about not playing the game the way Anet expected you to. Of course it’s their game and they can demand whatever they want from those who choose to play it, punishing those who don’t play it the way they want…and ultimately we have the choice to continue playing or quit.

How to Deal With AFK Farming

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Necrotic.7820

Necrotic.7820

Perhaps a middle ground can be found…

The problem is, people would just use a macro, nothing would change and ArenaNet would continue with their whispers. They’d need something you couldn’t bot, like captchas. To counter actual bots for example, they could require a captcha after a certain amount of reports. The problem with Lake Doric however is that the majority was AFKing, so there’s no one to report it. In that case, they’d have to rely on something automated to flag them, like kills without movement.

ArenaNet’s solution was just something quick and easy they could throw in, specifically something the content team could put together. A proper solution would require a lot more work, which I doubt they’ll ever do considering this has a problem since launch.

Wizard’s First Rule.

Didn’t you know they were ALL bots? /sarcasm

Interesting how this trend continues, people complaining about the farm in Lake Doric because they have some faulty notion that if the players who are at the farm weren’t farming, they would be elsewhere in the map doing events and helping other players.

I already have the ugly mask. I have the mini tonic and the mini fire tornado. I specifically created an Engi just for this farm. If I wasn’t occasionally farming, I wouldn’t be in this map AT ALL.

I’m experimenting with using Valkyrie trinkets and armor to see how high I can get my health pool. So far I’m at just a little over 20k, and while I’ve noticed the drop in my dps over my ascended Beserker gear I wouldn’t say that it’s unmanageable. The biggest hit I’m taking is lower crits, but I expected this.
Mostly this is for those times when I don’t feel like playing dodgeball on top of whatever else I’m doing.

If you don’t want to bother making Valkyrie ascended armor you could try just swapping out your trinkets.

At least you CAN pay to unlock it for your account, the Flame and Frost chapter is gone forever and at least right now….will never return. Not character models, animations. Such as animations specific to one profession or skill. I think he’s saying that weights are not checked against all animations and maybe the armor will gap or clip badly when skills are done on a different set of professions than the 3 it’s checked against.

I’m not sure that armor is checked against ANY animations at all…one example that immediately comes to my mind is the Bladed Shoulder piece on my ranger, every time she draws her bow the quote from “A Christmas Story” rings through my head “You’ll put your eye out with that…”

Seriously, it’s that bad. So as far as I’m concerned…that’s not even a valid argument.
They don’t check for clipping in animations.

Professions don’t change character models. The armor for that character already works for all weights. Coding would be the only potential mess, but that’s always the case for any change. If it’s too much work, and a bad point to work on it I wouldn’t blame them for telling us no.

Heck they’ve already told us basically "No, armor takes too long to make so no new sets except with expansions! "

Loss of an estranged parent. Remember that Eir did not raise Braham. And frankly the PC reaction should have been more along the lines of reminding him that they too lost people…Seiran for example…or Tybalt, our own parents in some cases, and certainly Trahern or any of the other MANY people who have trusted “The Commander”, whom he didn’t seem to have much respect for at all. Oh and by the way Braham, we did something that your mother and Destiny’s Edge couldnt seem to manage alone….we SLAYED A DRAGON! Before you were even involved. I get that the writers are sometimes limited by the fact that we have to get from point A to point D through B and C because of game mechanics or whatever….but I felt like this time it was a bit off and out of character for all of them. Except maybe Taimi…she was still totally in character for the most part. I didn’t expect Braham to care about Lazarus or Caudecus but seriously, almost a “not my problem” about Primordus? Really?

It felt too much like they were saying these things because we had to progress the story…not because it made sense.

Since you pretty much just scratched off the top three fastest methods, what is left to you is not “the fastest leveling” but simply leveling as you normally would.

If you still decide to leave those methods behind then you could always go to which ever zone the daily events are for and run them non-stop while the day lasts. It may not be faster than crafting but it would likely mean less down time in between events. Of course this only works if the daily events are in a zone your toon can survive in.

Something else occurred to me as well. I would wonder if the devs created the animations so that they fit within the cast times for each of the skills. So that the actions used to call flaming rocks forth to rain down on your target occupies the predetermined cast time of three seconds. Also remember that each is supposed to be uniquely identifiable on the battlefield so that PvPrs can respond.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It’s all about interpretation. From what I recall from the book I would not have had that scene play out like it did in the movie. The Devs have said that the weapons are the focus items for magic users, so the magic cannot be used without them…personally I disagree with this but it’s their game/lore. Also maybe your video card isn’t showing it but on my screen whenever my ele tosses a fire ball, she pulls fire from the staff head first and then tosses it with her left hand.
On my necro her staff forms a shadow scythe blade that she then (like my ele) proceeds to pull from and throw at the target.
As for more animations for each skill using the staff…I don’t know…I don’t need to see more sparklies and animations when I’m dropping a lava font, but I wouldn’t necessarily say no them either.

They made a clear statement. People will misinterpret any- and everything ANet says to suit their agenda. If you see people AFK farming, report them and let ANet sort it out. If they see an epidemic, they’ll take further action, like creating a blog post.

If they had made a clear statement people would not disagree about the legality of the farm.
When many people ( not only one or two) read the same official answer and they understand something opposite, then there is a problem with the official answer.

I dunno, it seems to me that they are waiting to see if it becomes a problem before deciding that action needs to be taken. That seems reasonable to me. Kinda like the Queensdale champ train.

Firelizard do you have case law to support your claim? Breaking the rules is not breaking the law. Do you honestly believe you can be prosecuted for violation of a TOS in a game by not playing it properly? What sort of penalty do you expect? Would this go on your record? Can you be denied employment over this? Heck they don’t even permanently ban botters, what makes you think this would result in legal action? By legal action I mean you receiving a summons or being arrested.

Tsavo I understand you are just wanting clarification on it and I am all for that but I am just trying to encourage people to stop over dramatizing things that are …“play how you want” issues.

Also I kinda feel that if you are worried about “abusing” the reporting system then maybe it’s not really as big an issue as you are trying to make it out to be.

Okay, first of all I would like it if people making these kinds of “requests” would stop using that term.

Of course it is “legal” for them to be AFK farming, because if it were in fact illegal for them to do so then that would mean that there is a real penalty consisting of a fine and/or imprisonment by their local or federal law enforcement agency. Are you implying that you think these people should be arrested and face a fine or jail time? Are you saying that they do in whatever government jurisdiction you reside in?

Seriously, please stop using it as a way to describe action within the environment of a video game that you feel is a violation of the acceptable way of playing said game.

I’ve done it once with my main and close enough to easily get it with my other alts even tho I don’t need it. I personally don’t have an issue with getting map completion myself, if I need a waypoint I can run and get it easy enough.

My friend however is another matter. He doesn’t play that much and I cannot recall atm if he has full map completion on any character although I am certain he is close on at least one. Thing is though, he has three level 80s and only one was leveled the old fashioned way. The other two were craft leveled after using as many scrolls and tomes as he had.

When I told him about the level 80 booster he nearly wet himself with excitement.

Okay maybe a slight exaggeration, but he was quite happy about it. He decided to use it on an Ele that he had been neglecting because of a lack of time available to work on it. He still frequently talks to me about the whole map completion thing, wishing that there was a way for him to just buy it so he could easily join me wherever I go.

I’ll admit that sometimes, I think it would be nice if he could do that and then be able to join me doing some obscure event or farming run.

It would be really awesome if the game engine could generate new and exciting conversations that were always relevant to the current situation. Until someone creates that AI maybe we could just have Anet hire some staff to sit in game and control the NPCs and talk for them. Wouldn’t that be fun? Maybe they would discuss your character’s outfit or something.

Lol Necrotic. I love people like you. Cause playing a game and trying to enjoy yourself is all about research right? Lets do some work so we can play a game.

I agree w/ Necrotic. When it comes to the choice of doing the research yourself or expecting others to do the work for you… well, do the kitten research yourself. Often it takes just as much time to do the research yourself as it does to post the question. If you still can’t find the info THEN ask… that’s cool.

~EW

There’s a difference between a simple question (like “hey what’s the abbreviation mean”) and something a lot more in depth though. Basically what you’re saying is that its not ok to ask a kitten question in map chat for something so simple. Goddess forbid we bother anyone with a simple question right? Because if you can’t be bothered to answer what an abbreviate means, I can’t imagine you can be bothered to help with anything else either (“anyone seen ‘x’ boss” “how long before ‘x’ is up” etc etc) . We should just tell everyone to make sure they have at least a second monitor and keep the wiki open.

No, but believing yourself entitled to an answer in map chat just because it’s a “simple answer” isn’t any better.

I wish I could tell you exactly how many times I have had a question occur to me in game that I then searched out an answer to on the wiki…but I can’t. I don’t keep track of things like that. It has been fairly often though.

By that logic why even bother reading the “manual” for the game? Maybe you haven’t and managed to figure out all of the controls by trial and error.

And likewise just ignore all the text and instructions you receive from the game itself like the NPC chat and the Story Journal. Ignore all of the tooltips as well. You don’t need to know what your skills do just press one through five and repeat until the monsters are dead.

I too love people like you as well who say how much they are just there to have fun in the game yet were just complaining about x or y issue or problem that they couldn’t be bothered to look up that is just driving them insane/mad with frustration.

I have decided that I am going to be the one negative comment here.

Most times I will simply ignore the plaintive cries of the newbies who don’t understand all of the abbreviations being used in the mchat. Sometimes I will however point out the ease with which they can look things up if they would only try. I am usually considered an unhelpful person at the least and a few times, a troll.

At the OP(Original Poster) I would say that perhaps you should take some time to familiarize yourself with some of the more basic things. Yes we are using abbreviations to refer to things in chat but I would guess that most of us have been playing long enough to know what they mean. Some of these abbrevs. are long used names for concepts that have spanned many games of this type for years and are relatively well known concepts. CC, DPS, LoS and AoE are just a few of them.

It’s really not that I don’t want to answer your questions in game in mchat but rather that I don’t want to take ten minutes explaining to you what it is and how to find/use it.

I do feel it is your responsibility as a player to find the answer to your questions. Especially since the answers aren’t always as simple as they seem in mapchat.

Perhaps I have become jaded from the new crop of players who cannot seem to find any answers on their own without being hand-held through it. I do it enough with my friend who barely plays the game, I’m not doing it for someone who refuses to even try to find an answer on their own.

and btw…this is what Google found for me by just typing in “MMO CC” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crowd_control_%28video_gaming%29

CC tutorial for dummies is needed

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Necrotic.7820

Necrotic.7820

There are two problems with the CC thing:

1. It’s not very intuitive that you need to use CCs to break those bars. I understand that it is a mechanic of various fights but it does not make really much sense.

2. This is the biggie. Even if you know you need to CC, and you know what it stands for, there is absolutely no indication in the skill descriptions regarding which skills count as CC.

So you are relying on players seeking information outside of the game: wiki, youtube, forums, and most people are just not going to do that. Which is why we often see someone completely losing it in chat at events like The Shatterer, abusing all and sundry for their lack of CC.

“Soft CC’s” are even less logical. Why does chilled count when burning and poison do not count?

Trying to explain this stuff in the chaos of chat before a world boss is rarely going to work.

Because the term is “Crowd Control”, not “Crowd Conditions” and chill doesn’t have as big an effect as you may think. Chill is the “soft” type…because it reduces movement and cast times, it does not interrupt them.
