This is correct, you’re not creating new characters on other servers but transferring your account. All characters that you’ve created are transferred with your account.

This makes sense when you consider that WvW is actually server vs. sever and being able to have characters on both sides opens either side to griefing and/or sabotage—it’s a conflict of interest at the very least.

The real harshness comes from the cost of the transfer which, depending on the population of the destined server, can cost up to 1800 gems.

The guesting feature, however, is very useful—especially how it allows you to ‘test-drive’ a guild before paying to transfer to their server; the only thing you can’t do while guesting is WvW.

Starting a guild is easy; it’s 1 silver. Having it not die on the vine is quite costly in terms of time, effort, and sometimes money (i.e. site fees, voice server fees, etc.).

My best advice is to avoid being generic. Have a hook that will get people in. For instance, my guild, Just Us Grown Ups [JUGs] (shameless plug, I know) targets the over 30 crowd. Find your niche—something that will stand out. Also, make sure you let people know which server your on. Now that transfers are no longer free, that can be a deal-maker or breaker.

Also, it helps to have other members at some point attest to the quality to the guild by leaving a comment under your recruitment post. This will reinforce the image of your guild as well as bumping your post back to the top of the forums; recruitment posts can sink to the second page within hours.

You can’t just make a post and expect them to beat a path to your door. You have to scour these forums and look for posts by people seeking guilds. Reply to their posts and emphasize the positive aspects of your guild and downplay the negative.

Lastly, don’t give up. This is my first guild (as leader) and I’ve often been disheartened throughout the recruiting process, but then you get someone to join and then it all seems worth it. I’ve been recruiting for about a week and I’m close to twenty members.

Lastly, once you get someone to join, keep them. Group up. Get a dungeon run going, hold their interest. Playing the game by themselves with nothing to show for it but your tag isn’t what they’re looking for.

Just Us Grown Ups [JUGs] is a very casual PvX guild, catering to older gamers who just want to play Guild Wars 2 in a fun, drama-free environment.

We’re a friendly, social, PvX guild, that was created so that adult players can get together, relax, BS and have some laughs, and enjoy the game together.

Our guild does have an age requirement in place to keep the environment mature; almost all of our members are men and women between the ages of 30-55. We do allow people 25-30 to apply but they must fill out an application through our website.

We are an adult guild and, as a result, we have adult conversations. We don’t constantly use profanity but we also don’t censor it either. We don’t enforce political-correctness, but will refuse to deal with bigoted, abusive or obnoxious members.

We cater to both men and women, provided that they bring a a good personality, decent sense of humor and not their drama. Oh boy, do we hate drama.

We are a small guild looking to grow but we have a core group right now of really good, solid people who are helpful, inclusive and fun to be around. Since I started recruiting, we’re averaging about two new members a day.

Usually in the evenings. Most log on between 6-10 PM PST. We have members that are in the Central time zone as well as Pacific, so it varies.

Looking to be in an uber-elite hardcore guild? Neither are we.
