Are thieves and eles qualified for “Heavy Only” now? I’m super confused now.

When people are being intentionally obtuse, they get no further replies. Bye.

I was thinking the same thing as Iris.

In any case, I still think guards and eles are best for fractals, but I’d rather have ranger/engi/thief/necro over a 2nd and especially over a 3rd warrior. 1 war is enough, more than 1 is redundant. All heavy groups are not even close to optimal. Iris is right. You are wrong.

I think a lot of people in solo queue keep their chat turned off just to avoid this kind of thing. Lots of matches the team doesn’t type or respond to map or team chats.

Oh my God is THIS WHY HALF THE TIME NO ONE RESPONDS BEFORE THE MATCH?!

It is the WORST feeling when you’re trying to strategize with people and only 2 or 3 are responding and 2 or 3 completely ignore you and do their own thing. It makes me rage harder than anything else in this game. ANET, please force people to leave Team Chat on for the match duration, if only in ranked queue.

>.< dont.. want.. to.. derail.. thread..

The engi could easily carry. There, I derailed the thread for you

Oh. I guess I never played with a good engi then. Almost no experience with that class in PvE so I assumed since in over 2 years I never saw it happen that engis can’t carry, at least not to the extent of a guard or ele.
No need to derail anything. Just shows how small the percentage of good engis actually is. (I usually play in the 40 and 50 brackets).

Continuing derail:

I don’t think it’s the percentage of engis that are bad as much as not a lot of people play engi as a main pve class.

I very rarely run into engis, but for the most part the engis I run into are more likely to be good players than say, the guards I run into pugging.

The first time I met Nevets was in a fractal pug. He carried my entire group (before fractured) and he is my favorite engi in all of gw2. I haven’t run with Sarah, but I’m sure she is also great. The type of player who chooses engi as a pve main I think is a special type of person.

Lilith too kind!!! I’m an Engi main, it’s true, and I know lots of little Engi exploits in fractals to make things go smoother, but I’m not that great. I actually frequently die to Mai because when you get to Fractal 4 in a pug and it’s Mai you just get so disheartened and stop trying.

But the point is a good Engi could solo Mai in Zerk, and a decent Engi could face tank her the whole fight with Cleric’s or Nomad’s gear.

The best pug Mai fight I ever did had 4 zerkers standing at the edge of melee range and a full ascended nomad warrior face tanking Mai so she didn’t teleport, got hit by lightning the full duration each time, and died quickly. Engi has the potential to be just as bunkery if geared right, and a good Engi wouldn’t even need to be geared right – lots of invis/invuln/dodge potential to really help out the team if they’re struggling.

There is nothing wrong with zerker gears.
As long as they remove the whole stacking thing , this game is fine as it is.

PS: you have no idea how hard mai trin gets when zerker players insist on wearing zerker but can’t dodge any single skill shots.

Had a Nomad Warrior face tank Mai Trinn on FOTM 50 the other day while the rest of the party stood at the edge of melee range and zerked. It was the fastest pug run I’ve ever done. Every lightning hit in full, Mai didn’t teleport, no one went down. Is this the ideal comp for speed runners? No, of course not. But for a pug group I was crying with happiness. I actually thanked the guy for bringing a Nomad set because he saved the rest of us from even having to dodge.

Did you read his post? By his own admission he spent like 4 or 5 hours messing around having no idea what to do. If at any time during those hours he had spent 5 seconds to stop and think or 2 minutes to go look up what he was doing wrong he could have saved himself the entirety of that time. The fight is not hard.

Fract. weapon droprate down?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Nevets Crimsonwing.5271

Nevets Crimsonwing.5271

Hi everyone.
After a long hiatus I decided to give fractals another shot. My AR is at 70 so in theory I can do everything up to and including 50. Problem is, from what I’ve read, the weapon droprate after the fractal update was significantly reduced.

Is that true? If so, is there some kind of spreadsheet that includes droprates?
Lastly, is the dropchance the same for all levels in one category, i.e. 31-40, 41-50
or does it incease inside the brackets?

Thanks for your time!

Yes, the fractured patch nerfed the drop rate. Everyone was asking for a way to make things less RNG while still making the weapons hard to get. Instead they made things more RNG and made the weapons harder to get.

Prepatch rate was like 1 in 4 or 1 in three if I remember right. So they nerfed it big time.

I see. I asked cause pugs tend to steal my LH when in Scepter/x.

That’s why I take D/F and Staff and basically never touch my scepter except to stack might before a fight. Nothing is as annoying as a stolen LH. If it happens though just swap to D/F and Drop LH for A.Wave, IB, or GOS whichever you dropped to take it. A well done D/F rotation can still maintain 15+ stacks of might, not quite the possible 21 of Scepter+LH, but blame whoever’s stealing your LH for that

They locked the other thread. Wonder if Windy will come on over here to continue the conversation.

What upsets people is not that defensive builds are bad, it’s that they’re slow and most people don’t want to play with people who use them.

Defensive builds are not just not bad they’re blatantly overpowered. You can sit there and facetank some of the hardest hitting bosses in the game -solo- and not die. That end of the spectrum is what should be nerfed.

Instead, what we’ve been getting patch after patch is nerfs to damage-centric builds which serve only to make content slower. As you noted, the lower level content became faster because of scaling -so fix that if it’s becoming cheesy- but there is no reason the top level content should be made slower and slower. It’s long enough as it is.

So they’r happy with bosses that can be killed before they even appear on the screen (looking at you Spider Queen). But unhappy with the kill rate in fractals/Arah/COE/HoTW (Big LOL on the HOTW one)?

I’d suspect that most of the parties they look at numbers before don’t do ‘pre-load kills’, and a large number of non-optimal groups don’t have the ability to do that.

It’s far more important to keep the content accessible than it is to make it harder for more optimized groups — but that doesn’t mean you don’t tweak the top-end at all.

The top end doesn’t need tweaking. The bottom end is what’s OP.

Always has been.

Nerfing might per stack is a clever scaling way to reduce the damage output where it’s at its very highest (and thus potentially problematic) and reduce it less where it’s already lower.

It’s being reduced more percentage-wise where damage is lower. Celestial/nomad/non-power builds benefit more from might stacking than full zerkers, percentage wise. The person who has 1000 power and makes it to 1800 with might is going to feel this nerf more than the person with 3000 power who makes it to 3800. Note I’m not using real numbers but you get the point.

The ideal damage rotations have been posted. One can calculate the theoretical loss in time based on those. You’ve not done that. All you’ve done is made derogatory hyperbolic statements describing me as a “second counter” and a “raging gamer” while fundamentally showing you don’t understand what is going on.

1. Condition cap nerfed conditions.
2. Ferocity nerf nerfed zerkers.
3. FGS nerfed speed clear parties. Of these, this one was the one that was on another tier and is the one I think was justified. None of the others were.
4. Might is now being nerfed.

Patch after patch the same encounters have been made slower and slower. It’s not on the measure of seconds. It’s on the measure of minutes, and for some of us this makes a difference. Now please go read up on this topics and understand what’s going on before coming back.

Edit: When I’m talking about encounters being made slower, I of course mean level 80 content. As Jerus pointed out above, scaling made lower level content easier.

Ideal rotations change as the game changes, welcome to the modern era.

Also, yes they’re reducing damage output. Undoubtedly because they think damage output is too high.

Despite your deep need to make it personal, I don’t really have a dog in the fight as to the specific change. I am however very interested in trying to get people out of the angry mob mode of game design. You (among several others) are more interested in being mad about the change and laying blame for the change than you are in trying to consider what Anet’s design reasons for the change were or thinking seriously about the impact from a design perspective.

It’s all ARGH THEY"RE CATERING TO THE BADS AND IT DOESN’T HURT ME AS MUCH AS IT HURTS THE BADS BECAUSE I THINK IT’S JUST REVENGE AND I’M NOT SO SUBTLY TRYING TO GUILT TRIP THEM INTO QUIT ASKING FOR THINGS THAT I DON’T LIKE!

Man it’s getting really hot in here with all that straw you’ve set alight.

I’ve considered design implications and motive. I think both are misplaced. You’ve done little but lay ad hominems at my feet.

Also, I intend no subtlety: people should stop asking for nerfs to damage centered builds.

Nevets Crimsonwing.5271

Well how about making defense, support and control more useful to balance out the usefulness of Might and Damage?

People been suggesting that for a while now.

Make other roles more useful and the game will balance itself out…

This is their problem. They wanted a game without delineated roles so the effect becomes that each profession must focus on all the roles at once.

But, they actively handicapped two of the “standard” roles in the beginning of the game-conditions and control-by hardcapping conditions and putting defiant stacks on enemies to limit control. Thus people wanting to “specialize” are only left with power specialization which lots of players hate.

IMO what should have been done a long long time ago:

Make conditions/control/healing useful for individual specialization such that encounters become quicker with a healer/condition person/control person rather than just another power person.

The above would require a significant redesign of encounters and professions and a split between PvP and PvE and ANET knows this which is why it hasn’t happened.

Let’s give an example.

Lupicus, non-reflected.

Right now parties can use active dodging and movement skills to negate any damage done so that they can melee Lupicus without dying. Thus it’s beneficial for the party to maximize damage to get through the encounter faster.

What if a control oriented person could “shut down” lupicus so he never attacks? That one person could save the party from having to dodge, use movement skills, etc and on net balance the overall run might become faster. But such a person would be OP in PvP so such a specialization could never happen without differences between game modes.

What if a designated condition person (any class) brought more DPS than a zerker? Keep the condi cap if you must so that a single condition person can cover all conditions, but make conditions hit harder earlier so that DoT with a single condi person is actually higher than a Zerker person. Other mechanics that could encourage bringing someone focused on condis are high defense mobs (as in triple trouble wurm) or “phases” where the boss becomes especially vulnerable to conditions – like the dredge mining suit or the ice elemental boss in the dredge fractal, except with condi damage rather than direct damage. This would make that one person useful and would reward specialization.

What if lupicus had some sort of agony-like attack that requires blasting in water fields to survive? A designated healer in this case could be required to win.

The underlying issues I see are:

1. Weapon skills can’t be swapped out so you’re always going to have a mix of all roles in one and specialization becomes impossible.
2. Trait lines are a mix of all roles and specialization becomes impossible.
3. Fields and finishers are spread throughout all builds and specialization becomes impossible.
4. You’re mandated to take a healing skill so healing specialization becomes less useful.

What needs to happen for more playstyle diversity:

1. Change encounters.
2. Change defiant.
3. Change how much damage conditions do over time if you don’t want to remove the condi cap entirely.
4. Rework weapons and traits so that certain weapons correlate with each role and a full zerk team can’t also condi cap, control, and heal.
5. Allow players to take another utility skill in place of their heal skill, and allow players to take more healing skills in place of their utility skills.

Since none of the above will ever happen, nothing will change. These are core game design issues, and they’ve shown that they aren’t willing to mess around with these. They’re able to alter fluffy suface-level things, but won’t mess around with the fundamentals.

I honestly think a test-server with selectable weapon skills, a non-designated healing skill/utility skill slot, changed condition and defiant mechanics and a more diverse trait selection system would be the most refreshing, entertaining, and interesting experiment in the history of MMOs. But they don’t want that. This game was built on the idea that everyone is the same, that people are replaceable cogs. It’s sort of collectivist/Marxist actually: the working masses should be freed from the elitist bourgeois and can fulfill any role in the factory that they want to. The issue is that, as in reality, specialization is more interesting and more efficient and “sameness” is depressing because it destroys the thing that lots of gamers love: the ego. Ego comes in the form of shinies in this game, not in the form of play styles which I think is sad.

Your lengthy post is for naught. It has nothing to do with PvE, it — and several other changes — is about celestial and strength-runed professions in PvP.

People keep saying this and while Cele Engi/Ele may have been the root of the change, they still changed might for PvE as well when they didn’t have to.

The next thing people using your line of argument like to cite is that they don’t want to split skills/effects between game modes.

This argument stands, but is weakened by the fact that they split confusion in the same exact patch. They may not “like” doing it but they still do it, and they should for might as well.

The problem isn’t that the nerf is small, the problem is the trend. They are making things harder without in any way compensating for it- and that’s the real problem.

Ah, hrm…
Well, to that I’d say that independent of any nerfs done (this patch also brings a lot of individual buffs), encounters will be super-easy both before and after in PvE. And from that perspective, I’m not sure PvE couldn’t use some all-around nerfs to player power. Though not only to damage output, granted.

One of the things that always amazes me is the ‘omg never ever nerf!’ If something is out of balance, the designer wants to fix it.

A certain class of players only ever see something getting taken way, and its honestly tiresome.

There are few people who say never ever nerf. As I wrote above, what’s tiresome is consistent nerfs to power builds over time based on complaints from posters like you.

This is one of the saddest threads I’ve ever seen in the history of the forums. People are celebrating being kneecapped.

Or they’re celebrating slightly improved balance between abilities.

Or, and more likely, they’re responding negatively to the kvetching about it.

Edit: Things being a tiny bit harder and slower isn’t something I’d be up in arms about.

We all enjoy the game in different ways. Some judge the quality of their playtime by the size of their numbers, apparently.

And some judge the quality of their playtime by how long they can drag out menial and repetitive encounters.

The tit for tat answer is that some people actually enjoy their time playing the game.

The serious answer is that most people don’t care that much about absolute time optimization. The difference simply isn’t so great.

Well, I’m sure since you have been absolutely optimizing your time you know from experience how little the difference will be? Tell me, what’s the time differential for a fotm 50? How about for a fotm 50 with a pug group where I’m the only one stacking might and the rest of the h group is doing little dps?

This isn’t the first time raw damage potential has been nerfed. It’s like the third or fourth at least. The game’s encounters haven’t changed so the only thing that has happened is that the meat sponges in this game are dragged out even further. I enjoy playing this game. But if the content continually begins to take longer and longer for no discernable reason, it ceases to be fun.

I mean, why not nerf max dps to 1? This change caters to the phiw people, by kneecapping the play efficiently people. It’s disgusting.

You don’t know the difference either, I doubt you’re running test runs with exactly 20 stacks of might to find out.

I’ll tell you however that a level 50 fotm is entirely completable without any stacking at all. Yeah, it takes longer (I don’t ever time my runs so Ihave no idea how much longer it takes), but it doesn’t change anything.

It’s really hard to respond respectfully to the obsession with second-counting. The pat response is that mabye if you hate playing the gamemode so much that every extra second is agony, maybe you should play another game for a while. That’s not really what’s at issue though. Instead I’ll suggest that you let go of your internet anger and personal forum grudges.

You come off as more interested in going after the ever-hated “PBIW crowd” to the point that the primary interest in this change is how you can use this change to take angry potshots at them.

~~~
To hit on your final rhetorical question, ‘because that would obviously, even by standards of reducto ad absurdum, ruin the game’. Anet thought might was slightly out of balance across the various game modes, and they fixed the imbalance in a way they thought would enhance the game.
~~~

I get that it’s the nature of gamers to rage out at any change and accuse devs of catering to whichever group of players they don’t like, but people need to seriously get a grip.

The ideal damage rotations have been posted. One can calculate the theoretical loss in time based on those. You’ve not done that. I also found the AoE poison field of

To be interestingly handy.

Between static shield and gear shield you can get so much regen if this rune were in PvP. You’d be like healing signet warrior when they were so OP before nerf.

This thread is hilarious. PvP is easily the least popular mode. PvE and WvW are almost immeasurably more popular.

I think so. I haven’t been online yet today to check … If someone could.

This would make engi bunker so over powered. If someone can check I’d love to know.

This set is not in PvP! And even if it was, it wouldn’t be that good on a bunker Engi anyway! First bunker Engis themselves aren’t that good because of a lack of stability! The whole point of a bunker is to stay on node and stomp/revive! You can’t do any of these things without stab! Second, Engis are extremely vulnerable to condis and if you stay on node as a bunker should, you will be condi bombed! Third, 1 sec of regen is pretty poor incentive to use a major defensive cooldown and even if you count the aegis procs you get, it’s only like an extra 700 healing every minute as opposed to something like Backpack Regen which is almost 8000! That’s pretty bad! Lastly, I don’t know how much the 6 piece bonus heals for, but unless it’s a major heal 30 seconds cooldown is too long! Melandru is still a way better rune for bunker Engis if you do decide to bunk! I have and I can hold off 1v2s for a long time but I can just do the same thing as a condi Engi except I’ll be able to beat people instead of stalemate!

Wahoo! Bye frands!

Without your build I can’t critique you.

I suggest the OP looks into statistics at some point.

Input: .25, 30, 1.

Chances of there being more than 1 occurrence in a month in a pure RNG system: 99.8%.

I… I.. I can’t.. I just…

Hey now I said you could mix and match. Engis could kill the rangers, guard on ele, mes could get the engi.

But I’ve seen good mesmers kill rangers. Their pewpew is not that good guys.

Same. Guards counter eles, engi and mes counter rangers. Or you can mix and match in there. Looks fine to me.

Fractals End Chest RNG?

Ok Zui and everyone:

I defined an event as the results of 2 ring yielding fractal runs. I had 84 rings, so there were 42 “events.” The outcome of each event can either be a yield of 2 of the same ring or 2 of a different ring. The odds of getting the same ring for a given event are still .000865 or (1/34)^2. I had to go through and “pair” each of the rings with its subsequent ring. Thus if one of my yellow “doubles” wasn’t in a “paired” group, I didn’t count it as a success. For example, in the image posted, the first row of rings had 1 success because the pairings matched up with the couplings, but rows 4 and 5 had 0 successes. The total number of successes was 8. If you need a visual for this, please let me know.

The odds of receiving fewer than 8 doubles in a sample size of 42 pairs, assuming RNG is:

1. Yes, that’s right, it’s even higher than my previous calculation. The odds of this happening are so high the calculator didn’t bother with decimal places.
