I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
- Jareth, King of Goblins.
Maybe if it was account-bound.
Maybe.
Look, there is nothing wrong with players obsessing over Zerker as the one true way. It is and players are right to use it to the point of abusing it. The meta is NOT A PLAYER PROBLEM. IT’S A DESIGN PROBLEM.
In any set of 10+ choices there shouldn’t BE a single blatantly superior choice. As things stand, there is. Any change that leads to there being another singularly superior option is a rubbish change and its not what the design-savvy complainers are asking for. Zerkers should never stop being good. But it should stop being best for the majority of skill levels in the majority of high-value encounters. Each encounter will naturally have preferable choices — the problem is most of the high value encounters have the same solution: Hit it harder.
If you had a dungeon encounter that was “survive this bombardment for 3 minutes. If less than 4 players are standing at the end of 3 minutes you lose.” you’d see a different set of gear being deployed for that fight. But the fact is the dungeon bosses are for the most part not just unimaginatively repetitive – they’re outright anti-imaginative. The best solution is always ‘hit it harder’ and the goal-driven players do what they are told: they hit it harder.
Cool. Thank you. Good to know .
Probably less than there are people with Legendary greatswords and more than there are people with Infinite Light .
Possibly a better view of the effect~
Just fought a guardian in deathmatch who had a strange blue aura the entire match. They switched between staff and scepter and there was no lapse in the effect at any point (it doesn’t look like any of the skill form those weapons). Its a fairly soft blue circle that moved with them and occasionally aegis-like shield-shimmers appeared in it. What IS it?
Your odds of seeing a suggestion become reality go WAY up if you’re doing it in a relevant CDI thread.
Most of the time they aren’t all that interested in fixes – they have people on staff for that. Instead they do pay attention to the massed outcry identifying problems. Particularly in sPvP.
Keep in mind he was a kid once – which means over a decade of everyone around him calling him “Eirsson”. Even with his gripes with his mother, I’m sure the sound of his own name seems quite normal to him at this point.
There’s a bit of difference between animation and in-game footage .
The druid still has at least one pet – we see a wolf rushing forward in parallel with the “vine-strike”.
Shower.
Showering counteracts all kinds of funk.
I think it will be 3-4 maps 3 layers on each so 12 maps totaly then 2-3 (1 maybe 2 layers) more maps during the living world building up to the next expansion.
I think you might want to rein in your expectations just a little.
That they aren’t crowing the size of new real estate to the four corners of the gaming world is a pretty good sign that while they may be satisfied with it internally its not the makings of a good sales bullet point.
You don’t need to be talking to us. You need to contact Support.
Buying something up to 24 hours before it goes on sale sometimes gets the better price, but it seems to be case by case. Just be polite and see what happens.
Then people have nothing to worry about, now do they?
At this point I now know where all the black wings on the Black Lion store came from – they’re leftovers from all the crow they’ve been cooking up. Hope some folks are hungry . Because watching the interview I almost laughed out loud at the dancing Collin did.
Paraphrased~
“Will you lose anything by being a Druid?”
“No, you can change back to being a Ranger at any time out of combat”
Think it through for just one moment – if druids don’t lose anything, why would I need to change back to Ranger?
Namely, Blind is now effectively GONE from dungeon running with the new break bar drinking it down as just another CC effect that does nothing to bosses.
Do you even know how the current defiance works? Unshakable makes Blind 10% as effective. It wasn’t used on bosses before, it won’t be used on bosses now. No leg has been kicked out from under the “Zerker Meta”.
Wow. If you’d read the first post responding to the thread you’d see that someone already asked that. And if you’d read to the 4th post you’d see that no, I DIDN’T know that and said so without any particular arm twisting. Though I do think people are kinda underplaying the safety net value of even 10% of the mega-hits just whiffing into the void actually represents. That just means the change is an adjustment in what I feel is the right direction, and not a major rework of all boss fights in its own right.
Imagine my surprise the thread is still tearing along 6 pages later… Especially as since then we’ve had it direct from the Devs own lips in interviews that the monomaniacal Zerker meta is a concern for them they’re looking at dealing with. Its under scrutiny and that’s good enough for me.
And again you point to a single encounter. Not even death match is scored that way.
Pit those people against each other 10 times and I bet you’ll have a pretty good idea who has the greater skill…
Its not his fault – it’s his privilege to have chosen a risky strategy KNOWING that risk might come round to bite him in the backside.
In my universe the more impressive skill is the ability to endure mistakes & bad breaks and triumph anyway. Its not like the proc chances are a big mystery – the player knowingly took on those risks AND knew that their opponents had the same range of choices available to them and chose NOT to counter the possibility of a wild spike.
I just had a match tonight — I’m a TERRIBLE duelist, but I win more than I lose because I play the map instead of wandering around looking for chances to get into fights I’ll lose — where I got pulled into a death match and told the rest of the team “I radiate heals continuously and can build a fortress on the move so stick near me.” (GS/Staff guardian with Battle Presence – don’t judge me). To my amazement they did and it was a blow out – the other team had 50 points when we won. Its possible some of the other side had variable sigils that didn’t proc much or its possible they were built more conservatively/reliably and had only 2 spikes big enough to actually bring someone down. But of all the probabilities, decisions gates, and emergent behavior of the match, I’d class the chance of procing Air or Fire pretty much ‘mice nuts’ compared to all the other variables in play…
You’ll get another chance. That was preview night. The main sale comes later.
People don’t play MMOs for “fun”, its all about the carrot at the end.
I am so happy to hear I can’t be lumped in with “people”.
If you don’t enjoy the gameplay, you shouldn’t be playing.
Is luck a player skill?
The entire universe says ‘yes’.
If you don’t check in regularly, no, they don’t want your money. Until later. Because right now they’ve inserted a barbed spur in your brain that when it comes around again, you’d better jump on it. In fact, you’d better jump on anything you see that you want, because it could vanish like that one time with the wings…
Right now you’re telling yourself “oh no, I’m too clever/annoyed to fall for that” but the reality is even if you are one of the magical single digit percentage personality types that won’t be swayed, the technique is overwhelmingly effective.
Huh. When you say “extremely high” I have to contrast that with my experience of maybe 2 completely clueless teammates in the last 125 matches.
My win ratio is a smidgeon better than 50/50, so maybe I’m just getting paired with a smidgeon better class of player?
I remember you saying this to me, when I also said that HoT was an Expansion, and you said it was just LS3….
Skimming back through the last eleven moths of my posts with your name in them… Lets recap some of the things you’ve actually blurted out.
Anybody notice that the Mesmer Specialization is using a Sword as Main hand?
Could it possible that all Specializations can use more than just their specialization weapon?
You were thinking a specialized necromancer could only equip greatsword/greatsword?
Rumor is they are getting their own personal story for leveling up.
I don’t believe that for one-tenth of a second.
Starting area is set by RACE not class. There is zero reason to expect a new tutorial. There may be characters added to existing ones that chat with Revenants with new dialogue to help guide them, but beyond that, manage your expectations…
Is it me or is Anet deleting the links and post to the reddit video of the guardian with bow?
Was that put in by accident?
The links are just fine. They’re in the Guardian boards though.
So, yeah: bad tacos.
((just to be thorough, I also checked – I haven’t used the word “taco” outside of this thread in at least 9 months. Must be someone else concerned with your digestion you’re remembering ))
(edited by Nike.2631)
Put me in the pool for someone will have it “done” in 105 hours or less.
But my blood pressure is way lower than that person .
Been over this before – IF those other classes had a “collect your class abilities on the landscape” mechanic, I’d totally support tracks for them too.
But they don’t. Their F1-5 buttons come (relatively) complete.
So lets extrapolate: a track that unlocks new appearances for Banners (Warrior), Turrets (Engineer) minions (Necromancer), Thieves (Thief), Phantasms (Mesmer), Elementals (Elementalist), or Sprit Weapons (Guardian).
I would sink serious effort into gaining Asura-looking turrets for my Asuran Engineer.
Or corrupt elementals for my Elementalist
Do want gold spirit weapons instead of blue ones for my Guardian.
Ok, fine. We can all have tracks to customize our class-based buddies.
The mastery tracks look like they could be a nice place to add some new skins for Ranger pets (same mechanics, different looks – we’ve had them before). Since too many people would lose their minds to nerd range if the new skins were part of normal tracks (“what do you mean I have to spend points on a stupid ranger pet along the way to something I really want!!?!”) They could be added as small ‘spur’ tracks off the main progression or even as a larger “master of beasts” track with several pet skins.
I am going over the AngryJoe interview, and get that vibe that Raids are coming.
That vibe is probably just a bad taco you ate.
Now we know why the Itzel info was so hard to come by — they’re natural masters of croak & dagger.
The new dyes let me update one of my necromancers .
Soon there will be 24k bacon for everyone!
You assume that absolute parity is required inside of tiers, I don’t necessarily agree.
Where cosmetic rewards are involved I think a lack of parity is desirable. That Mjolnir is so much more expensive to make and correspondingly rarer in the world than most weapon skins is considered a feature by many.
Where core mechanical function of a character is involved, I think there’s less tolerance for wild disparity. Light armor users are right to feel a little persecuted by the current system. The problem is less that that their days to complete is longer and more that insignia for all weight classes probably should have used a fourth material in the first place. But that ship has sailed and to me if light armor users can be expected to take X many days, changes that increase the number of days for the other two weights towards X are justified – sometimes parity is everyone being screwed together .
There is an example in game that I was hoping you might be able to abstract some data from and maybe give us your assessment of the “successfulness” of the two items:
(edited by Nike.2631)
First off, ground turkey is amazing. Ground turkey makes you strong.
Ground turkey burgers are great, though I tend to cover them with pineapple & teriyaki more often than I do beef burgers. It’s a popular burger flavor I find just works better with ground turkey.
Let me ask a question, if you could farm silk specifically, but slowly, so the price remained what it currently is or higher, would that be better or worse?
My feeling is outside of any economic impact — as a game-play experience — it would be better. As something of a do-it-yourselfer, I still remember making Infinite Light… There is more pleasure/pride in the memory of slowly but personally gathering 50-ish of the Charged Lodestones than I have for the memory of the 200-ish lodestones that I produced by buying cores from the Trading Post and upgrading in the Mystic Forge.
One had me getting into groups to run the Crucible of Eternity and out in Orr ruthlessly exterminating every elemental (I was on a first name basis with all of them. Many said ‘hi’ and waved to me before we began our epic battles). The ones I bought were just “Yay, I threw some coin at the market. Watch how I cunningly manage my bids…. Zzzzzzz”
The trading post is a good tool, and I’ll say without hesitation it is the best run one I’ve ever seen in 15 years of playing MMOs… but its sometimes used as a cure-all for a lack of path → goal in the main gameplay. Every time I hear “Its easier to go farm gold and buy it” I just cringe, because SOMEBODY has to actually undertake the activities that puts the item into the game rather than just adding to the amount of coin floating around. Its very hard to deliberately be the guy introducing the items to the market.

Now for the white wings, Anet would make lots of gems if they made these also available.
But not as many as they’ll make by doing the black ones first.
Work for my reward? Because those tomes just fell out of the sky, right?
Most common wisdom approves of delayed gratification. I’m doing the work NOW, and instead of cashing out, I’m holding on to it until that work can do me the most good for something I’ll want later.
By “no information” you do mean a fairly complete look at three of their trait lines, two legends, and a weapon set, right? Because that’s plently to put together some builds with and think “hmmm, that trait right there is WAY more powerful than a similar trait we already know well…”
If I wanted to go with blind fear-mongering I’d just point out that Revenant inherited its lead designer from WARRIOR and if you don’t think that class has been coddled just a wee bit by the Class Balance team, you haven’t been playing the same game as the rest of us.
Truthfully I don’t think it’s shaping up to be grossly over powered, but its gonna land right in the top tier with a couple of really questionably “balanced” traits unless we see a LOT of clean up and love given to the non-golden child classes of the game (hint: everyone not in heavy armor).
Why do people take so many screenshots with something dark behind them when trying to show off their black wings…? .
I spent some more time looking over the recipes and thinking after removing a hasty response earlier and I think I have my ducks in order this time ((quack!))
If I were king I would be looking at two changes to shift some of the emphasis off of cloth and onto the other time-gated materials~
When people say the wings are too big… compared to what? Even if 80% of your lift comes from pixie dust, wings are normally BIG compared to the critter that has them.
In the finite amount of time each day I’m will to sit around worrying… Guild Wars 2 gets pretty close to ZERO seconds assigned to it.
If you’re having fun with the game now, you will probably continue to have fun with the game when HoT hits. But the difference between it giving 15 hours of exploration vs 60 hours is still pretty meaningless after the third week or so.
Being able to use something is NOT one of the requirements for the appeal of progression. If you’re a pure sPvP player the only thing that advances is a rank that gives you finishers and paying coin to unlock some traits/runes/sigils… And yet they shower me with all kinds of loot that doesn’t really do anything in sPvP. Its not like I need Tomes from sPvP to advance in sPvP. Those tomes are to advance my character in other parts of the game while I’m playing sPvP.
Masteries are one of those other parts of the game.
Besides, mastery tracks seem very much akin to PvP reward tracks, except for PvE players. PvE players can’t progress their PvP reward tracks in PvE, so it wouldn’t be all that different if PvP players couldn’t progress the Mastery system either.
Maybe. We’ll just have to wait and see I guess.
If they came in white, I would buy them.
I’m sure we’ll see some additional colors over time. Releasing the black ones first gets the people who want black, and the people who will take what they can get while waiting for the color(s) they really want.
I want gold ones myself.
Actually they were part of a costume, spliced out and made into a back piece for crow enthusiasts who want to look like crows too. They probably have no relation to HoT whatsoever. I think they need to add a corn feed gem store item so I can feed all the crows that have been added to the game.
Feeding the crows is a heart-activity in the Norn starter map. Some of the shamans there should have this new back item added to them .
This just makes me miss the wings in CoH.
Which were the BEST.
A)ok, i will admit the reality is not that simple, but, thats supposedly what an ideal economy is supposed to promote.

Don’t forget Tversky. This is maybe my favorite economic study of all time.
Indeed. I shouldn’t have shorthanded the authorship (though only one of them lived to receive the award if I remember correctly).

but the fact that you cant be perfect doesnt mean you should accept everything
Believe me, I’m a big fan of striving for improvement even when perfection is unachievable.
In this case I think the point to be made is that any economic speculation based on humans acting like rational actors is like trying to get to the moon while denying the existence of gravity — the core premise is so badly flawed that building on it is meaningless.
Personally, I always thought Tailors should be able to produce ascended leather and that ascended cloth armor recipes should include small amounts of leather, slightly reducing the amount of fabric they require now. It would ease some of the time gating and reduce “cloth competition” they have to deal with currently.

We have truly entered the Age of Raven.

So… for all the people who think tomes will NOT work… you expect ArenaNet to just say “Hey, sPvP players — your advancement stops dead at 80”? Because tomes are how you get XP playing in sPvP.
