I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
- Jareth, King of Goblins.
Oh noes, my one skill can no longer cancel infinite skills. Balance is ruined!
I’m pretty sure ArenaNet is 1,000 times more concerned by the abuses of all kinds of jerks kicking people who previously had no way to report who did it to Support than they are about bullies being kicked and being able to see you pitched their butts out the door.
Get over it. Literally, that’s all there is to say about that perception. You’ll still have 5 weapons skills. 5 new skills is not better than 2 new skills and the ability to mix and match your choice for the other 3.
Just wondering what the best profession is atm along with the worst profession?
I hear Warriors and elementalists are pretty solid while necros and mesmers are in a bad place right now. Is this true?
What format are you looking to play in? The strongest classes aren’t the strongest in all of them at the same time currently.
I do wonder is one of those is the Legend for the specialization rather than the basic class getting 5…
All these complaints about Ventari and Sylvari “favoritism”… Because that’s the only possible reason they chose Ventari. Couldn’t possibly be because a Centaur provides a unique aesthetic for them to utilize as opposed to another human (and there aren’t exactly a lot of legendary Centaurs), or the fact that they seem to be building up some sort of Centaur connection to Maguuma, what with the centaur tribes in Dry Top and the Silverwastes. And there’s definitely no story potential there to delve into lore and find out exactly what’s special about the Pale Tree that could in turn be used against Mordremoth.
You’re right. Just like there’s all kinds of other reason to take the Charr-themed legend other than being a Charr… except the minor trifling detail it doesn’t exist.
Your argument: it is invalid.
Indeed. We get humans, because well duh. And salads. Just a wee bit of persistent bias there.
Another person who thinks weapons are the core of the specialization system.
The new heal, elite, utilities, traits, and modified class mechanic are going to be a LOT more important than 2-5 weapon skills for most of the classes.
Plus, Alexandra Duet.
Ventari is there so the Sylvari Revenants will have an obvious go to choice .
That’s also why Jora is there… oh. Right. My bad. Norns don’t matter to the Devs.
So what color are the bars while you are rezing a defeated player?
Own your actions. It’s as simple as that.
That’s an Order of Whispers scepter – not a torch at all.
Also confirmed that is DEFINITELY the light Inquest pants.
(edited by Nike.2631)
Torch isn’t main hand for anybody and its really not likely to become main hand for a specialty since the pricing of off handed weapons is different (cheaper).
My Question now Is not “what can we do” , the reports are sent and blocks are given and screenshots kept for Future reference, but rather: what do You guys think about people like this, and his behaviour?
Honestly? I think you had an absolutely typical, predictable, and BORING encounter with the utterly average standard-issue Mark I stupid human. Like we all do. Every. Single. Day. (unless you wisely choose to just sleep in )
Its a faintly amusing story, but not something I’d expect to generate lively discussion. An impression backed up by the dozen near-carbon copy responses of “report them and move on.”
Grats on the drop though .
Hope it dont’ backfire and Anet increase the damask cost of heavy and leather armor.
What kind of non sequitur bullcrap fear-mongering is this? Seriously.
Player happiness is not a factor in a parity approach. Fairness IS. You can make a strong argument that the material requirements of armor weights are not fair — an argument to take action John Smith might find more compelling than “I wantses Damask to be cheaper”.
We’ve argued silk prices to death and the powers that be are unmoved. Time to try a new approach to serving fairness… one that doesn’t hinge on the majority of the change coming in the form cheaper Damask. Because clearly that is not happening.
You’re asking Anet to make leather as expensive as cloth. Ridiculous topic.
Not at all. Its an outgrowth of discussion elsewhere that achieving parity does not always mean make the high cost item cheaper – making the other low cost items more expensive is also a move towards parity.
There’s a lot of call to make damask cheaper and one of the few arguments for doing so that is not based entirely on self-interest is that there is poor parity between the armor weights. This is a solution that addresses parity rather than tries to validate “but I wantses it cheaper!”
No.
The blade shard backpacks (and now the crafter backpacks) came directly out of CDI discussion and they hit within 6 weeks of upgradable-in-stages items were proposed. I found the turn-around time on that actually kinda breathtaking and said so at the time.
Superior Rune of the Trapper is a CDI suggestion (yes, I’m a bit proud of it).
Retractions and back-pedaling on Scarlet having actually graduated from all three Asuran Colleges is a result of the CDI process as is the LS episode that is the relatively quiet break in of her lair.
Big chunks of the Heart of Thorns look very much like the fully processed culmination of discussion on character progression 14 months ago.
Its definitely not a game of immediate gratification, but it can pay off nicely over time.
We want an update on the update.
Is that the royal ‘we’ or the schizophrenic break ‘we’?
People CHOOSE TO GRIND and then complain about it.
There are very few things you can deliberately advance towards that you can’t advance towards somewhere else — maybe not with the same efficiency, but progress all the same.
Grind-as-repetition is largely self-inflicted.
If he asked for a refund I’d shrug and say ‘Sure. Line forms to the left.’
Read the actual original post and you tell me what you see there…
You can dye everything else in this game, why are you restricting dyes on things you pay for with Gems?
Others have commented on the fundamental incorrectness of this statement, but I have one question for you:
What did you think the word ‘black’ in the product name meant?
Incredibly sad this option isn’t being provided to the loyal old players. I really hope they provide some option via the gem store even if for an incredibly high price.
I’m pretty sure ‘loyalty’ and people grinding the poo out of CoF don’t keep the lights on at their office.
What’s terrifying to me is how anyone who plays so much they feel they could buy the game through gold farming at “an incredibly high price” is reluctant to give some cash to a company that is giving them so much pleasure. Take a little pride in kicking a few dollars in for the work being done on your behalf.
Keep in mind, no matter how you define grind, the ascended tier was added with the specific intent of taking a long time to acquire as an intermediate tier of activities between full exotic kit (arguably accomplished in minutes) and legendary weapons.
My problem is not that they take a long time. My concern is one segment of the players (light armor wearers) are unduly challenged by choices that make their primary component disproportionately difficult to amass. To me valid “solutions” include making leather/medium and metal/heavy armor more difficult to come by — which could have the benefit of brining leather value up to be more in keeping with what at first blush are symmetrical items.
Still hoping to hear back from John Smith about the impact of the difference in recipes between Dwayna’s Wings (all cloth/all weights) and the three Gift of Blades-based backpacks (cloth/leather/metal depending on craft used).
I disagree.
Self rooting melee skills is for the high risk and high reward which is needed for skill based games.
Meanwhile “Rapid Fire” exist and is basically a mobile, ranged version of Hundred Blades.
Risk, Reward ?
Tell ya what — I’ll swap you Rapid Fire + the dumb-as-rocks pet/medium armor/medium HP for your HB + a class mechanic that actually works/high armor/high HP and see if you feel the exchange is equitable. If you want the class as a whole, roll a Ranger, but you can’t take the skills one at a time. Sorry.
The problem with that logic is that there is no such thing as a “full HB” in pvp, not when you can take 3 steps and be out of it.
Or I might have noticed most good players lead with a root before firing it.
Sure, self-rooting can go… but the skill’s damage will drop to about 1/3 of what it is now.
ArenaNet attaches a HUGE effectiveness co-efficient to self-rooting skills. Modest risk nets monumental rewards…
I think any impulse to create a “T6>T5>T4>T3>T2>T1” set of values for materials is fatally flawed, leaving out the effects on supply created by the distribution of player character levels across the 1-80 spectrum.
If anything its entirely deliberate that lower level character have an easier time generating some highly prized materials – allowing them to get a toe-hold in the economy selling off their drops as they are leveling up.
The real tragedy of all this is the way people obsess over the new weapon, like its the only thing going on with specializations.
Oh well, its on ArenaNet to clear that up. But when people see what all makes up a specialization, the difference of 2-3 weapon skills between some professions is gonna seem pretty trivial.
The problem is people, including the OP, are actually trying to get an overview of what specializations are before Anet did anything but announce them. We’ll get more detail on them when Anet releases the deep dives into specialization.
Anyone determined to get a leg up on understanding specializations should probably check out this thread and just work through it backwards.
Does anyone know if you will have to pick up Heart of Thorns to be able to create a Revenant?
Yes.
This coming from the one who wants Skynet as their Ranger pet.
I have a devourer pet I hadn’t decided on a name for – “Skynet” is perfect .
Considering the fact that anet keeps talking about how the class changes are still up in the air for HOT, I felt we should at least try agitating for them to drop this ridiculous notion of giving us an offhand shield, which appears at least looking at the trailer as if that is their intention. This thread then is for us to try and make some noise, and to not simply go quietly. Whatever weapon you may want, I am almost certain, that their is no mesmer out there who honestly can say, they want a new offhand weapon… So here my fellow mesmers is our rally, and so shall we cry;
NO SHIELD, NO SHIELD!
You do realize Alexandra Duet has been a sword-&-shield Mesmer in the game since launch, yes?
You missed your chance to complain something like 30 months ago.
There’s a bit of difference between animation and in-game footage
.
How do you know which is which? In the reveal trailer, it all looked like gameplay footage. Yes, obviously characters themselves can’t push open doors and what-not but I’m pretty sure the clip where Rytlock beats a mordrem to death with a spear-like weapon wasn’t just “animation” but an actual skill (most likely an auto attack for staffs or a bundle he picked up). I don’t see why they would make an animation for a auto-attack chain just for the sole use of a trailer when it could be an actual skill. It’s the same thing with the anniversery trailer where all of the footage of characters is actual in-game footage, just manipulated in a cinematic way.
The simple fact you used the verb ‘beat’ should tell you that’s not a spear-like anything. You don’t beat with spears- you ‘thrust’ or ‘stab’. That’s a piece of in-game footage of using a staff to beat/clobber/whack something.
The only actual “spear” shown in relation to HoT trailers was during the animation where the corrupted Sylvari impales an enemy and that animation is the thing Colin was talking about where the artists went a little wild and showed something not in game just like there is concept art that shows characters riding dolyaks.
Mine is that they’re making sure the new option of hiding Engineer kit backpacks works as intended
Crazy conspiracy theories and LIES! We all know that would make the Engineer totally OP…
We know that some of you are anticipating a new build for Guild Wars 2 on March 10th. We wanted to give you a heads up that the game update is coming, but it will not be going out on March 10th. At the present time, contents of the build is undergoing additional QA Testing. If we get more information about an anticipated timeframe for the build’s release we’ll try to provide that info in advance. But of course as always, we will update in the forums with detailed update notes when the build goes live.
Thanks for your patience.
I don’t know that I have heaps of patience, but keep at it and keep us posted. If something broke badly enough that you’re pushing this back with only 12-18 hours notice, it sounds bad enough I’m glad you caught it before it promoted to Live.
((My tinfoil hat theory would be they improved the AI of Ranger pets so much that they were afraid to release them onto the internet for fear of dooming the human race. Gotta be careful about those things…))
Map completion of the Orr zones is a good goal. You can get some quite nice gear from it.
Who? And since there is a message length restriction, I ask again, who?
Apparently its a person that someone I’ve never heard of has heard of .
I really like five alert, attentive players with solid internet connections who know their profession/build and the content being attempted.
I’ll settle for anybody who listens to directions and will fess up when they don’t know something. I can train that kind of anybody.
all i can say to the people who are complaining about berserker gear, you dont understand how the combat system works or you simply refuse to understand it.
For what I sincerely wish would be the last time: NO. We get it. The complaint IS NOT THAT ZERKER IS THE RIGHT RESPONSE TO EXISTING CONTENT. The complaint is that the 1-dimensional “kill it faster” encounter design is mind numbingly BORING.
That’s why certain people hate the first Dredge fractal puzzle so much – killing the Dredge doesn’t make a difference, they just respawn. The fight tests your survivability, not your DPS.
people hate it because there are no real mechanics involved and its just a lazy way to design stuff. dredge are the perfect example for bad encounter and mob design.
Are you KIDDING? The first fight in the Dredge fractal is one of the most technical fights in the game. And that’s because 2 people have to withstand a beating without dodge roll god-modeing while someone has to get in position without drawing agro, all while “hur hur kill-em, kill-em faster!” DOESN’T WORK.
That it doesn’t disintegrate when exposed to the meta that pervades the game is a good thing, not “bad design”.
I’m pretty sure people with still be grinding the holy heck out of Citadel of Flame after HoT hits and telling the rest of us that if you want something you should just grind gold until you can buy it.
So, vanilla will be alive and well. Thanks for your concerns.

Stand somewhere with better light. Choosing where to shoot screenies is important.
For a bare-bones edition I’m expecting $34.95. I think $39.95 is also a strong candidate.
Deluxe edition $50 to $60 depending on if there’s some physical nick-knacks involved.

At no point can you ever make the full damage builds not the most optimal. The only way that is feasible is by instituting what is basically a minimum health or armor tax that would negatively impact lighter armored and health classes.
Why do people say that? I mentioned in THIS VERY THREAD having a fight with a clock that cannot be shortened by hitting things harder.
That’s all it takes.
That’s why certain people hate the first Dredge fractal puzzle so much – killing the Dredge doesn’t make a difference, they just respawn. The fight tests your survivability, not your DPS.
Use some imagination before declaring what can’t be done. Especially when it’s already been done in game.
So its fine that the warrior has to craft 9 weapons more per set for build variety than the engi because its not vertical profession?
Why can my Engi friend have his full build variety today, while i still have to earn 45 more laurels and craft 9 more weapons for my warrior?
Thats so unfair.
Its an amusing try, but I find myself unconvinced.
I’ve been a shortbow/axe+horn fan in open world for almost 2 years. Going over this build definitely helped me tune it up. I’m still using the horn offhand for group support/utility, but my ability to pulp enemies 1-on-1 or simply hold out against 2-on-1 until help arrives (keeping control of a point the whole time) has skyrocketed.
Thanks for the excellent advice!
Some ideas were used. For example RtW or SotF traits. It’s pretty funny to see how everyone misses it and complain about other things.
I was out for a few months and am still feeling my way around the Ranger changes. Could you explain that slowly and with fewer acronyms ?
For those who were born rampaging pedants or just practice every day, “Forced” in the context of a game we could all just uninstall tomorrow and probably have better lives because it is generally used as shorthand for “forced if we want to play anything close to top tier performance.”
Not held at gun point forced. Not there are no other BAD options available (there are plenty). Forced as in “there are no other comparably good options.”
…Which would be why even when Zerker to a straight nerf to the face with the Ferocity change, when people threatened to switch to something else you could just ask them “Yeah? Really? To what? It’s still going to be the best answer to end game content after the nerf…”
I like to think ArenaNet is aware of that since the host for that thread was no longer working at the company six weeks later.
