I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

On the other hand, ArneaNet is doing a joint panel with their AI specialists at this year’s Game Developers Conference.
Racially-themed gliders is easy money. Including the minor races from the Personal story.
I’m going with “Because coin continues to flood into the system.”
I’d prefer ‘less outfits’ go all the way to ZERO outfits.
I don’t want to say designing outfits is lazy – it’s not lazy… but it is chintzy.
But I vote with my wallet and don’t assume I hold the decisive position. I just continue to ignore them as they appear, while carefully considering and usually buying armor sets when they are made available.
By “Fail” you mean have a 2-3 year head start in build-crafting?
Look, the guy designing the Revenant is the lead for Warriors, so his reputation for protecting his babies is earned, but there’s still a whole team devoted to level playing field. It won’t be too grossly out of whack by launch.
Okay, if you say that, what are your ideas when it comes to new stuff for base classes?
Masteries are exempted and the new boons and conditions because all classes are getting them.
I suggest browsing the Ranger CDI for some examples of my work (just search each page for my screen name – there’s a lot to read).
You might also find skimming the Horizontal Progression CDI interesting — you may find early discussion of what became Specializations .
FINALLY AFTER 2 LONG YEARS WINGS ARE HERE, OH MY GOD… i hope the wings are dye-able?
I think the word ‘Black’ in the item name should dispel any false prospects of that.
My shoulders are ready.
Please tell me it’s not going to be easy to get, so that not every single person in the game will have one and ruin it.
Well, if you don’t wear them that’ll be one less. If you expect us to fall on our swords so you can be a special snow-angel… yeah no.
TAKE MY MONEY.
Do engineers get maces as well as hammers
(imagine mace/pistol mwuwhahhaha)
And another one we know the answer to: No. They don’t.
Maybe the will be a mace specialization for Engineers later, but not as part of Heart of Thorns.
Im a kitten… that’s all you need to know
hahaha
So the cat’s out of the bag then…
I like pineapples.
Grounds for conversation! You can sit over at this end of the table.
1. Find out what is going on with Dungeons, any new oned or revamp / new paths for old ones?
2.why do they have people Weilding Spears in the trailers..like….alot…are they hinting torwards something?
3.Cantha?
4.Find out what improvement,buffs,nerfs,new weapon,skills,traits Warriors are getting ?
Heck, I can answer those.
1. Nothing. If there were something it would have been in the list of major features and all major features have been announced.
2. Artistic license. Which they’ve specifically explained was the case.
3. No. Funny thing about being in China – you can’t get away with the slovenly and offensive mish-mash of Asian cultures you can do when your not conducting business in the region, and the cost to get in-house competence up to a level where you can do a culturally sensitive rendition is very high. ArenaNet has stayed out of that minefield for good reason and those reasons haven’t changed.
4. The Warrior lead designer has moved on to a new class. Warriors have (finally) lost their top cover. Please enjoy the same treatment Necros have gotten for 3 years.

Each race gets six. I can usually find one that I wish I had access to in sPvP.
I have never seen such a clever thread title.
j/k
I just came back to the game a week ago after a 2 year hiatus…I just wanted to know how the population is in this game currently, is it alive and well, or is it dying/dead?
It’d be a shame of such a good game died out already.
Truthfully you’ll get out of it what you put into it. There are lots of wilderness areas that should be comparatively empty, and there are towns and launch pads for group activities (mega-boss rotation, sPvP, WvW zones) where you’ll see tons of people.
PvP matches spawn in a few minutes, WvW is moderately busy at all hours, the LFG tool has something on offer almost continuously and if you start your own group it will fill if you aren’t too picky.
By “Fail” you mean have a 2-3 year head start in build-crafting?

Gah, I just got my Guardian “Jora Corrupted” to 80. She’s armed with Coldsnap and Jora’s Defender . If they make Jora OR Svanir I’ll have to re-roll her
.
This hype train isn’t about the fans AT ALL. We’re an easy sell.
It’s about seizing space in the news cycle. Getting the product into the eyes and minds of people who may have heard of Guild Wars but never felt that powerful urge to actually research/buy it.
So they have to keep spinning out articles that reach a (much) broader audience than just here on their own boards where they’d be preaching to the choir.
(edited by Nike.2631)
They could just give then a new off hand and that would be 8 new skills and out.
Off-hand scepter, baby! Scepter dual-wielding.
I’ll be too busy playing with specializations on my existing 80s to fret over Revenants too much (initially).
You people honestly think some professions will get 5 new skills through a two-handed weapon and others will get only 2 new skills, through an off-hand?
I ABSOLUTELY expect that to happen, because despite people’s obsession with one tiny facet of the Specialization package, trying to produce perfect symmetry for the sake of perfect symmetry would lock them into too rigid of a model.
“No one is arguing the need for a plan… It’s just that your plan is stupid and won’t work.”
I always start that dungeon off with a smile.
Then you did know. Carry on .
Looks like gear from the Mole dungeon (“Forgeman’s”)
Just go to your bank, open the wardrobe, and browse. You can preview stuff without owning it.
yes, probability is instaneous,
the chance of him getting it before attempts were made may have been 90%
but with every fail the probability changed.the chances of me losing the next 499 times are..
the chances of me losing the next 498 times are..
the chances of me losing the next 3 times are..
You know the chance of the run failing to produce a success GOES UP for every failure, not down, right?
Your odds of getting a precursor in the course of 500 tries are never better than on the first try. Because after the first try, you’re just trying to get one in a run of 499 attempts. Then in a run of 498 tries.
You are losing chances, not driving the non-existent God-of-Fairness to cut you a break.
Retailers aren’t exactly bastions of secrecy .
That a variable number of people are accessing the same table/function between requests for a singular user also adds a largely “real” level of variability.
Whatever. I’m staying the course.
There is no “course”.
Your previous attempts have not changed your likelihood of success in the future by any percentage. Zero. Non-relevant. Discrete events. User-error detected. Gambler’s Fallacy wins again.
Just like having a precursor drop doesn’t magically reset the number of attempts counter before your next one.
Hence the HoT task-based alternative that’s been in discussion/development almost since the day the game launched.
I want to understand how the word “unfairness” gets involved in a strict gambling situation.
Dave Mark has hinted the NPC AI is being replaced with a utility based system:
Building a Better Centaur: AI at Massive Scale
This would suggest that not only are they not switching to a trinity based system, they’re moving even further away from one. The traditional MMO concept of aggro is an artifact of the NPCs being simple reflex agents. As a mechanic, runs counter to the entire point of a utility based system as it is based on the players being able to force the NPC into doing what is best for them rather than the NPC doing what is best for the NPC.
Oh man, that panel looks delicious. Wish I could go. I’m putting next year’s conference on my calendar now.
Hope that aNet delivers some more variety soon after the expansion.
Glad to help. We’re all looking forward to more of them coming out in a steady cadence.
I was hoping for a “Paragon” for Guardians that gained access to terrestrial spears. Seems like we’re getting something with a bow instead. I try to tell myself that’s fine since it’ll let them get a little practice in creating specializations before they do one of the most hotly desired of all Guardian-variants. Maybe a Ranger “Huntsman” will do the same for you .
The information will be made available in the same front page essay/page describing the product levels (basic, deluxe, OMGCollectors, etc.) and price points.
Only if it’s a close date. If ArenaNet said “Heart of Thorns will launch on GW2’s Fifth Anniversary!”, most peoples hype would die immediately. If they said “Heart of Thorns launches March 31st!” People would start hyping even more.
By people “hyping more” you mean “the retailers screaming they weren’t given industry norm advance warning and telling NCSoft to get stuffed because they aren’t juggling their shelves on short notice to display the rogue product”, right?
Hey, now. A lot of us are not on the “I hate Traeherne” team!
And you’re just wrong.
(j/k)
I don’t hate Trehearne, but I do think he should be forced to live out the rest of his life in or near the site of his great triumph or his solution will wither and die in his absence.
That character’s is completely lacking in sacrifice. Being nailed to the ritual site would add a ton of texture and give a reason for him to turn over control of the Pact to the Order leaders/commanders. Who can stop acting like spoiled children any day now.
One-per-profession when Heart of Thorns launches.
More to follow.
This whole conversation makes me laugh. A month ago, people were saying we just want to know if you’re working on an expansion or not. We don’t need a date. We don’t need anything, just let us know.
Of course, once you do that, people complain that they’re losing hype because they don’t have a date.
This whole post makes me laugh, thinking “People” are one coherent mind. What experience could possibly make you think that “People” wouldn’t have inconsistencies in their collective behavior?
Hey guys,
Hi Joe,
First a question for you: are you looking to pitch the some softballs where they tell you stuff that they were already absolutely determined to put out into the blogosphere or do you want some piercing questions that they have to pause and think a moment before answering?
Because things like “what weapons will the new professions have?” are textbook first case. Questions like “How well did hiring that outside studio for NPC AI work out and what changes did that bring to the game?” are still very relevant without being just another honk of the horns.
If I had to guess at the inner dialogue of the gnomes in Marketing, there will be a basic edition that does not have an extra character slot, and a deluxe version that — in addition to a ton of other whistles and bells to entice you to part with an extra 20 bucks — does have an extra character slot.
It’s just so perfectly one of those things that would be nice but isn’t strictly required for it be functional.
Special snowflake status: REVOKED.
Sorry man .
Any Norn would be happy to tell you a person’s ghost and a person’s Legend are two separate things.
And Revenants channel Legend, not ghosts.
I find my Mesmers a bit more demanding than my Ranger, but then again my two mesemers primarily run sword+sword/staff or scepter+pistol/staff, while on my ranger I gravitated to shortbow/axe+horn.
wait wait wait !!!!!
WAIT !!!!
i said WAIT !!!!
sooo those 2 stances work on ALL of our weapons or its only for the BOW ???
those stances would be kittenING AWESOME for all of the guard weapons
First: if those stances were introduced, they would almost certainly affect all weapons – though the specialist likely would lose access to 1 or more of the weapons standard Guardians have.
Second: those stances are almost certainly controlled by f1 and f2 – meaning the specialist LOSES some or all of their virtues compared to a standard Guardian.
condition is cancer in pvp and should be removed completely
Because we wouldn’t want there to be any tough decisions about how to attack or what to guard against.
One dimensional conflict is far more dangerous to the health of the game.
PS: I only want sylvari armor i.e. cultural or nightmare court. And really want celestial to be the main color.
Take a closer look at my attached image above. On female character the Phoenix pants are very “leafy” .
Nothing too fancy. But I love my Sylvari. <3 Been my main since launch.
I suggest taking a fresh screenie somewhere you aren’t nearly invisible due to camouflage .
Designers usually shine when it comes to having a build with a tiny, obscure quirk that’s devastating because they understand the synergy between all the potential moving parts better than all but the highest tier theory-crafters.
The difference is the theory-crafters can share the results of their work. Muscle memory doesn’t propagate nearly as well .
If you want to break the All Zerker meta its as simple as reduce the base healing of self-heals by 15%.
The very best zerker players only need a tiny amount of self healing to cover the truly inescapable damage and their (very) rare mistakes — the loss of 15% won’t kill them, though it may make things a wee bit more thrilling. But from semi-awesome zerker players down to the true posers who put it on because someone tells them to and not because their really well suited to it? Those people will get shredded by even such a small reduction in healing.
The real problem is the defenses that matter don’t scale with any attribute. Aegis and blind are 100% effect, not 50-100% effective based on a stat of the character applying them. Toughness and Vitality are bufferes against mistakes, but they are literally the LAST line of defense. And that’s why, given a choice of how to allocate your stats its better to reduce the time you are subject to threat than to increase your ability to withstand damage you’ll never take in the first place with sufficient evades, blinds, and aegis.
If aegis prevented 50% of the damage and another 1-50% based on your toughness (for example), you’d see people gearing for some Toughness.
