I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

Item Suggestion: Lodestone Treasure Bag. (500gems)
Description: Upon opening, player receive 1-3 random lodestones. There you go, perfectly fits Anet’s RNG obsession while earning some extra cash for the company. Steady supply of Glacial Lodestones…I mean Charged Lodestones would make players happy too because no more dealing with broken economy or market manipulation as long as you’re willing to pay with real money.
Let’s hope they’re not smart enough to make this come true :p
I sent in a very similar sugestion – a pack you buy with gems. Only my suggested bag always delivered 3 random -cores-. You’d have to promote them to loadstones (pulling more of the loose coin out of the economy).
To me the problem is the amount of coin in the system is steadily rising, while the number of valuables is not. Its even worse since you can buy coin from outside the system (using real money) but doing so doesn’t add any desirable products to the market. They have got to give us a way to introduce some valuable goods via gem-sales to help bring the cycle into balance.
We have the makeover kits, which were a critical requirement before introducing new faces/hairstyles/horns/etc (so existing character have a way of acessing them). So lets get some new appearance choices into the game either as part of the starting array of choices, world drops, or even bundles purchased at the gem store.
I want to see more variety!
(and yes, I’d probably farm dungeons for a specific hair style if the drop rate were 15% or better – but please, make it a fun perk rather than a 1% desperation ploy to stretch the usage case for the dungeon)
We have recipies to “recycle” unwanted dyes (4 of the same tier = new dye with ~20% chance of promotion to next tier). We can likewise recycle runes, sigils, marks/crests/seals, and precious stones. It would be very helpful in acquiring spcific types of loadstones if a similar formula was available, even without the possibility of promotion. Right now there is often a 40-to-1 disparity between the price of “Charged” bits and the lowest priced bit of the same tier. Recycling some of these unwated mats would drive up their value and have a generally leveling effect on the whole category.

Well thank goodness GW1 is still up and running… since This is Not Guild Wars 1.
He does that any time I’m not trying to solo the instance in my expereience. Add one teammate… -poof- script locked.
The problem is Trahearne won’t walk up and address Romke if there is more than one player in the group.
I did some double checking this evening – it DEFINITELY pops up immune messages on targets that are not yet at full health. It’s blocking itself.
Change is good! We have some interesting changes coming to FoTM involving the ascended rings we hope will resolve the problem at its core. Expect it soon!
I really like how you roll out a powerfully evocative phrase like “problem at its core” and then leave it to our imaginations what that might be without even faintly hinting at what the Developers see as the problem at it’s core. Previous career in politics?
You know, when Lost Shores scripts blew up, the bosses at least had the decency to admit things were less than ideal. Recognizing and ackowlegeing a problem is the surest sign it won’t be repeated.
Most players would say “putting in a successful effort without receiving one iota of progress towards the goal” would be the problem at the core, but that clearly can’t be what the Devs are seeing as the problem, considering that this thing got past the laugh-test back at the white board design meeting stage.
I really would love to have been a fly on the wall to see who pitched this and how they talked everyone else in the room into destroying the basic social contract put forward for GW2’s endgame.
Yup. I had 17 corrianders. I broke down and bought the other 8 and bamm! Celestial dye. My first level 80 alt is looking sweet.
Moral of the story: You see Mature Herbs on radar, you drop everything and you go kill them with your sickle.
Race: Norn
Gender: Female
It seems that every 1-handed sword has the same incorrect scaling factor. The handles look ridiculous for the charcter to try and wrap a hand around it and the point of the blade is burried inches (or feet) into the ground when the weapons are stowed in the non-combat stance.
Pardon. Was confusing some unique items… which in general I find far more visually appealing that the Legendaries.
Well, there will come a point when even the Devs are unhappy with loadstones as a gating mechanism, and then maybe we’ll see them loosen the deathgrip on loadstones dropping/creation.
I did get a loadstone (not charged, sadly) from trying to make a Mystic Clover. That startled me quite a bit.
Spears have 2 options also.
My guess is when they release a second round, those two will not get a third while the other weapons catch up.
I’m calling it a healer because I’ve experimented with making healers out of just about all the classes. My main (80 Warrior) runs 2-3 banners that grant regen and sword/horn for condition removal. I’ve got a Necro healer that’s looking promising and all the pieces to make a first rate Ranger healer are there, just begging to be strung together. Healing with elementalists is obvious, and pretty humorous with Engineers (Caution: you will live, but you may be a bit sticky after elixer bombardment).
Only ones I haven’t gotten to work yet are Mesmer and Thief… and I have a Mesmer tank, so I think I’ve mauled expectations enough for that class .
I already said that in another thread but I want a whip. 900-1200 range aa would be cute. Give me a lightwhip please.
Go to Ebonhawwke and spend some time gathering up lost animals in the back corner – you’ll be using a whip for 10 minutes and it’ll seem every bit as cool as you were thinking .
With Guardians having evolved from Paragons in the lore, I’d like to be able to use a spear one-handed in my land weapons main-hand slot.
Spear & Shield is our most ancient tradition.
(I also support dual-wield swords, and dual-weild maces. I like symetical weapon loadouts)
I will be reading the 12/14 patch notes with great interest to see if there has been any movement on this front. Seems like a lot of balancing is class balancing going on. Hopfefully some straight up fixes are packaged in there too .
This proc is intended for having the Burning condition applied to you, not for the visual effect of this torch skill.
Then please, please PLEASE change the flavor text in the tool tip. Say we are “wreathed in flame” or some similar verbage that suggests we are going to have a blue-white fire aura, but not be personally ignited/BURNING. Honestly, the way it was phrased seemed to specifically call out that it would proc the trait… Tooltip change and it all goes away – pretty painless I would hope.
I got to level 40, and was a bit dumbfounded the interaction my torch had been teasing me with since level 2 in fact did nothing.
I’ve heard of this crafting thing you speak of. Comming up with 30,000 blue crafting mats to do that seems like no less staggering an accomplishment .
You know… there is an enormous scavenger hunt already IN the game…
I always thought it was weird that with all the ways you have to explore every facet of the game to make a legendary, completing your personal story counts for nothing in the process.
Two-birds-one-stone opportunity.
Your sample size is still pretty insignificant for dealing with a 1:100 sort of event. I’d expect it be reliable about 20 weeks after the change in rates at your current level of testing.
In other news: how on Earth are you comming up with 2000 rares a week?!?!
“Personal Story: It really is all about you” – except for the last page. You can run this thing 1-80 solo but if you want to read the final chapter… feh, new rules apply, go pug it up puggy or forget about it.
Seriously, what catnip-crazed kitties go though MMO devs’ heads in every single game that the end-of-plot requires a different number of players than the majority of the game up to that point?
I wondered why I had never seen one of the big ol’ lightning hammers outside of the wiki, while the Legendaries are kind of hanging around on street corners begging to be admired.
I really, really hope they get a second round of Legendaries out there. There are just no weapon/theme mixes that appeal to any of my character concepts (other than the seemingly endless greatswords – everybody has those, so they are kinda losing the prestige feel to me)
I’ve seen the wine used at the Mystic Forge on the trading post, and it’s classed as legendary.
There is a Unique Shield recipe for the mystic forge known (1 Eldritch Scroll, 70 Mystic Coin, 1 Gift of Light, 250 Orichalcum Shield Boss), but seemingly no one has pics what it looks like.
You’ll be doing a mere one-hundred hours of Charged Lodestone farming for that one… :p
Truthfully I don’t like the look of any of the Legendaries that much. The dawn-colored greatsword is neat, but not neat enough to slog after it. I was gonna get the shield until I saw one in person. I’m building the 2 universal Legendary gifts and hoping the second round of weapon skins (or the vaguely hinted at lgendary armor) materializes BEFORE ascended weapons make Legendaries pop up to a must-have red quality stat line.
I would think the surge of precurssors (and by “surge” I mean a whole 2 of them reported in the 100 or so people that downed the Ancient Karka on my server) would have come and gone some time ago.
Disagree, at that point in the story all races had come together on one purpose, one course of action.
…Without style, personallity or character of any sort.
It would have been more work, but it would have been worth it to work together while maintaining the individual strengths that should give the alliance its flexibility and versatility.
I would really, really like to have maintained some sense of identity as a member of my race, and my chosen order, all the way to the finish line.
Well, the others require at least 100 loadstones, so the issue exists with most if not all of the unique skins generated in the giant-glowie-flushie-thing. I did notice “charged” bits were more expensive than all others, but I chalked that up to the items that are made with charged bits are generally the most visually appealing .
I’ll keep an eye out for the Uncategorized fractal chests. More way of getting them is always welcome.
So, I’m wandering around trying to figure out what to do as an 80 with all my gear. I thought, “hey, I’ll make a cool weapon for my alt thats coming up” and decided Infinite Light looked pretty spiff even though every harpy on Tyria has one.
So what do I need?
50 skill points. Check.
100 daily coins. Easy enough.
250 Orichalcum blades. Hmm. That’ll take a couple weeks, but nothing unmanageable.
250 Charged Loadstones. …Oh, my, gods…
Guides say you’re doing good to get one an hour farming them with full magic find gear – for the 2 hours that its even possible to farm for them after the Temple of Zephyrs flips. You can get them out of chest in the CoE, I guess (no luck there). I’ve gotten 1 from killing the Jade Maw… Keep doing the daily there I guess. Or pay about 3 gold a pop for them at the AH, a price I can’t even say is unreasonable because they ARE a monumantal pain in the back side to get.
…but really? 250 hours of farming for a not-a-legendary skin? Is this the standard ANet thinks is appropriate for hanging around as a max level character? Weeks farming oricalum for the blades is a long term goal. 250 hours of smashing face on air elementals in Orr… cree-rack! That was the sound of my soul breaking.
I’m pleading with the Devs on this – tone down the recipe requirements for lodestones in general. Loosen the slots on the sliver/fragments/shard/core/lodestones drops at ALL levels. I’d be happy to get Zommoros drunk on wine to do some transmuting but they’re crazy rare/expensive at every level range. Get a few more of these things into the economy. At a bare minumum get some places we can hunt level 80 elementals that don’t rely on a temple being flipped. Consider a vendor that will swap WvW token or fractal relics or currency from any other endgame activity for Lodestones so I can at least mix it up a little as I roll the boulder up the hill.
Given my druthers, EVERY SINGE MOB in the dungeon would have a base chance of about 4% of dropping an Ascalonian Tear.
Murder everything, walk out with 1-2 extra Tears. Obsessive critter bypassing slightly reduced. Script stability enhanced.
I want to see the starter areas (first 10-15 minutes) of Prophecy and Nightfall redone as factals.
These Fractals would auto-level you DOWN to 1-2 rather than up to 80.
I’ve just lead two not-all-80’s groups into the Ascalonian Catacombs. They were attentive. They focused fire. They learned rapidly from the first 3-6 tries on each boss. They done good. They were even good sports about getting pulped over and over in the name of learnignthe strats first hand.
They also didn’t have a prayer in Tyria of doing the graveling mound-based boss fights. The DPS expectation on those is just far, far higher than a pack of 40s and 50s can generate.
I get it these fights have been keyed so even 80s in all exotic have to pay some attention, but letting 35s in there is just setting them up to fail without a major armed escort to carry them.
Can we change the entry requirment for Explorable modes from Story + 5 to maybe Story +20 or so just to give people working their way up less of a sense of utter futility when they start probing the explorable content?
I love going in with groups that have first timers and getting knowledge out there, but some of those fights are just not reasonable for the people that are being told they’re of the requisite level.
That the arduous path to a legendary shouldn’t depend on RNG.
If you have a non-RNG way of getting loadstones (or even ectoplasm) without getting your face ripped off at the BLTC, I’d LOVE to hear about it…
Honestly, what part of the mats isn’t RNG? The dungeon gift, I guess…
Honestly…the only real reason to go to Southsun Cove is to mine Orichalcum nodes. There is no there reason to go there as this area provides nothing of any use what-so-ever.
I’m thinking you haven’t read the recipies for infusions yet. Farming the zone is manditory for peak ascended gear.
My experience with other MMOs that had summoned, autonomous pets is that they have to have many small/frequent attacks/behaviors rather than powerful/infrequnt behaviors to be satisfying to the owner – we have no control over them and no way of seeing their internal cooldowns, so the only way to tell they are doing something is when they DO SOMETHING. If another player stood there unmoving for 6 seconds in the middle of a fight the most charitable thing you might think is “huh, maybe he’s DC’d” and the more likely assumptions would almost certainly set off the kitten-filter. Please don’t make us wonder if Phantasms have cute furry kittens between their digital ears.
Maybe slow, high-risk spike damage is critical to the mesmer play experience, but I bet many players would be happy to see their phantasms a little more mobile and doing half-to-a-third the damage on each attack if they did those attacks two-to-three times as often! iZerker is so dang slow to act (even before the patch) I’m constantly wondering if the script hung…
Sidebar: if the example exists of necromancers having a trait that makes their marks unblockable, does the tech exist to make a trait where a mesmer’s phantasm summon-clicks are unblockable? Getting the little pink fiends on the field more reliably could be a very desirable addition to many builds…
Inspiring. Some food for thought there as my Guardian approaches level 80.
I’d argue that sword+torch is the highest dps combo we guardians have for single targets.
That has been my experience also.
I’m working up a might-granting monstrosity. Rapid hits for maximum chances at crit-proc’ing might are where it’s at.
My sword-horn support Warrior (perma-Regen from alternating 2 banners) is pretty much indestructable while wandering around Orr (barring the occassional run in with a Champion- run away, run away!). My guardian is 67, so I’ll be able to make direct comparissons soon.
IME, it does heal allies, and does so well. I have never understood what’s this supposed bug is all about since I read the wiki, to be honest with you. The Immune bug doesn’t seem to be affecting healing when your alllies health is not full.
My experience in dungeons and events is the benfit flickers on and off while the ally is below max health – they appear to get three 1 second ticks, then it blocks itself and they get three seconds where nothing happens because the effect fires every 3 seconds and cancels itself if then prior pulse is still up.
I won’t judge the priority of this fix – I’m just saying its a capstone trait for a line and I built a character specifically for it and its a little unpolished in its behavior. I’m sure it’ll get looked at in some internal order of importance/difficulty to fix.
(A massive regen boon is a massive regen boon and totally seperate from this ability. I have a warrior dishing permanent Regen with alternating banners and yeah, depending on the recipient’s Healing power, you can get some amazing HPS)
The aforementioned skew with the shoulders is crazy obvious when you compare Human females and Norn. Using the starting shoulders for Guardians, we see…
Race: Norn
Gender: Female
Profession: Guardian and Warrior
Many, many, many of the shoulder pieces appear to be scaled for a larger body (Norn Males?). The armor is enormous and floats well away from the body. I don’t think the 80’s padded shoulder look is deliberate becase not all pieces suffer from it, and Female Norn shoulder armor for light and medium sets doesn’t display this distortion.
Race: Norn
Gender: Female
Profession: Warrior
The String on the longbow Ganadriva seems to be scaled for some other race.
I’ll weep for you when I finally get any red ring whatsoever…
Dear Devs,
I’m sure you have a million trait and skill interaction you have to check on, but I just wanted to add a small plea to look at the Guardian’s Battle Presense. I love the healer/support playstyle so when I saw the description for this trait I made a Guardian character specifically to get it, ran them up to level 60 to unlock it, switched it on, and began seeing all kinds of weird behavior. I then looked it up in the wiki and it has a huge list of notes and bugs – basically it doesn’t work right :p. While getting it to not spam my screen with ‘Immune’ messages in Lion’s Arch would be a nice quality of life improvment, I’d REALLY like for it to actually heal my allies.
Season’s best, and I am really enjoying seeing the evidence of continous bug fixing and game play improvements both in the patch notes and the forum interaction. Carry on!!
I’m one of those new players, I’m in full Exotic aside from 1 ring and frankly the zone is close to making me stop playing. I can walk across it just fine, but there are group events overlaping half the skill points at any given moment. It’s HEAPPED with group events and there’s no groups out there. Its exactly the wrong mix of level and rewards to get anyone to stick around, but its required trudging to get the map completion done. Its anti-fun. It’s tedious. I don’t feel like there’s a sense of accomplishement hiding behind all those impoosible activities, I feel like ANet is telling me if I don’t want to join a mega-guild to round up 10-12 people to help me advance my personal activities, then I’m stupid for even trying to explore the world they’ve created and should go find some other way to spend my entertainment hours.
Better population detection is all I want – if there are 4-5 people around, great, spawn a champion squating on that skill point. If not, 2-3 veterans and a pitched battle for 1-2 people is better serving the near nonexistant audience the zone is attracting.
The mere existence of this thread says there’s a serious problem developing – the Orr maps are becoming ghost towns and completing tasks impossible for the casual player. Half the Orr skill points have group challenges permanently in residence at them.
I saw the temple of Balthazar open up on Fort Aspenwood over the weekend and I litterally chugged every drop of liquid kharma I had banked and ported down there to collect what shards I could before this miraculous event passed me by. Having an alternate method via the fractals is nice, but its dried up the interest in Orr even further. Map completion is looking pretty grim if you don’t have a 20+ member guild in your pocket.
