I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
- Jareth, King of Goblins.
Have you tried a donation wrapper in the last slot?
So quit trying to buy your way out of risk.
There are two possibilites-
Its so hard to make one of these that that’s a good and valid price.
or
It would cost less to make one yourself, so you should.
Which one do YOU think is true?
Or by way of another example, I have over 1,000 mithril ore (nothing to a trader, but a tidy pile to a harvester). Due to the risk mechanics on the seller side, I’m unlikely to ever post more than 50 ore at a time. You see my 50 supply, but that’s less than 5% of the actuall supply waiting to be sold.
So if you’re seeing less than 5% of the supply, and a negligable percentage of the sales, how much of the data we think we have about supply and demand is nothing more than the illusion of presumption?
Remember that Sell orders != supply and buy order != demand
True, but since we don’t have access to actual trade data they are an indicator of supply and an indicator of demand.
I really don’t think they are.
From one of John Smith’s earlier comments we have evidence that thousands of lodestones trade hands every day, often without touching the appearant “Supply” at all. Highest by 1c orders get placed and filled constantly without ever registering on trackers like GWSpidy.
All we ever see are the deals that are FAILING to happen.
That would destroy the TP.
Melodramatic much? It would slow it down. That’s all.
Imagine you buy a phantom Dusk?
I can imagine it. I (the Buyer) get a dusk for my coin. You, the Seller, get to wait for a second buyer to come along.
The items these phantom buyers sell are REAL, its just the buyer that doesn’t exist, and the money going to them exits the game. Thats why phantom sellers would have to only be involved when there is a buy/sell gap larger than 15% – so people would have a harder time manipulating new goods into existence in a way that could be profitable.
I always have to wonder if the people who can’t grasp that the TradingPpost is a combative, hostile environment as much or moreso than any PvP match are the same ones that think banks are their friend and credit companies want you to have credit because they love you?
Walk into the (Black) Lion’s den naked, you’re gonna get eaten. Come armed, come informed, and get something close to proper value for your coin or goods rather than passing on the rewards of your efforts to others at day-laborer rates.
On the bright side, John Smith has given me the perfect name for the Adventurer’s and Harvesters guide to the TP: “Using the Trade Post for the 85% – How not to get eaten by Lions”
I think DR could be introduced by adding phantom sellers – for every 8-15 of something posted that are at least 15% above the highest buy offer, 1 of those items is offered by a phantom seller for the same as the lowest of those 10 items – and phantom seller items are both invisible and move first when a buy comes in.
It would slow down the rate of sales for players AND remove 100% of the coin in that transaction from the economy rather than just 15%, making the TP a vastly more efficient gold sink.
Best of all it would be just as invisible and difficult to nail down by players as the open world DR.

Liked it at first but its not improved at all. If things need to be nerfed fine, but there are lots of issues that they have done nothing to improve.
Huh… Because if you run (or wanted to run) Battle Presence, this patch is bloody brilliant.
We so need to get access to the shaman clothes.
And now its up to a price where people may finally stop trying to buy their way out of risk.
You could set up a LOT of mystic forge attempts with 990g… and even if you failed, at least that wouldn’t be putting 900g into the hands of another player you not-so-quietly HATE.
I have my 77 now. I did mostly singles up to 67 then started using the x10 recipe. Took two tries. 23 armored scales, followed by 10 clovers.
I did two attempts at the x10 on my way up to 67, one gave me 25 venom sacs, then other gave me 10 destroyer lodestones.
Gonna be weird now that I’ll be just sitting on my ectos for a while (need 250 for the gift).
My archon build uses consecrations. I love the tactical feel of placing them, and Wall of Reflection is pretty amazing in many fractals.
woah, the passive stays on even after activation? does this only apply to allies?
If you use it you stop getting the regen effect until it recharges, but yes, the folks around you still benefit constantly.
Yeah, 0/30/10/20/10 has really been satsfying. The new patch improved sword behavior (fewer objects ignore the third strike). I have to look at Battle Presence again now that it’s fixed, but I think that’ll be a seperate build entirely.
Got my stats cleaned up. The page does not properly report the +5% crit chance from the Sigil of Accuracy or the 15% from Right-handed Strength (72% crit = Empowering Might procs almost instantly after comming off internal cooldown). I have +70% duration on Might buffs now, so keeping a couple of stacks on everyone is easy .
This patch was nothing but love for my build .
0/30/10/20/10
The sheet doesn’t show the extra 5% crit chance for the Sigil of Accuracy or the 15% for Right-handed Strength.
+70% duration on Might buffs
No consumables.

At lower levels I’m finding the spirit weapons now tank surprisingly well.
I think there is problem with their HP curve, where they are not getting enough HP at higher levels.
I don’t recall… but why would you expend a doge while you have absolute immunity?
I think something weird is going on with the scaling – I just had my spirit sword not only pull the boss of a dynamic event off of me… it then proceeded to effortlessly tank said boss until I killed it.
This was in a level 8 area, so maybe there’s an error in their hp scale or something? Too high at low levels, too low at high levels?
In decending order~
Laurels for lodestones.
Kharma for lodestones.
Better open world drop rates in general.
Search Tradepost by Light, Medium, and Heavy armor rather than all three types lumped together.
General bug fixing (list of minor annoyances too long to delve into)
Because patch notes before update could trigger all kinds of havoc in the tradepost. Doubly so if so much as a comma changes place between their posting and the actual patch.
This thread is asking for the Launch Time (Anets time). Why all the long paragraphs?
I’m thinking because people have inexplicably decided that Americans have recently started to give a soft white kitten about any timezones but the one they are in at that exact moment.
Come on people. Our country is 4 hours wide. We make corrections for people speaking from their own reference point as a matter of course. When you are in L.A. and on the phone with someone in New York and they say they can’t because they are having lunch at 2, you generally assume 2 o’clock according to their own watch they just looked down at, and do the math in your head.
ETA in 4 hours;
Source: I’m a wizard
Funny. That’s what my crystal ball says too.
Look, it’s a global game.
So. What?
No, really. So. What?
If they have a release advertised at 28th January with no qualifying arguments, then that kinda infers that it will be released at some point on the 28th of January for everyone that can read the announcement.
If you are so concenerned that all but exactly 1 possible 24 hour span will have 2 calandar dates associated with it, and you see an announcement that mentions only a single day, there are only 2 plausible conclusions – they’re locking themselves to GMT or they are using the clock right there in the office with them.
Now, lets rub that teeny, tiny bit of logic against previous experience.
Yeah.
That was hard.
Days like these I take more than the ordinary pleasure in living in the same time zone as the Devs.
I’ve long since stopped hoping Japanese Devs would do anything beyond the convinience of themselves and their native market. I’m not sure why anyone would expect American Devs to be any less provincial.
And I still think it has nothing to do with outdoor events in no small part because they are relatively accessible and done ad nauseum. Devs dont’ call those “rare bosses”. Devs do call the randomly occuring extra foes in Dungeons “Rare Bosses”.
Something 3 people can knock over easily vs. something that may or may not spawn at all IF you have 5 people AND those 5 aren’t rushing past every non-essential kill.
But time will tell.
I have said it before and I’ll say it again, they completely missed out the idea of soul-bound items.
Uh, looking at Ascended gear I don’t think they failed to learn the lesson – they were just slow to implement it.
Asceneded round one: rings and back – you CANNOT buy your way to these items with gold.
Ascended round two: rings and amulet – you CANNOT buy your way to these items with gold.
See a pattern?
At this point weapons may very well end up being the ONLY slot where you can buy ascended stats with gold – via purchasing a Legendary. And since each slot uses a different acquisition scheme they can truthfully say you’ll acquire Ascended gear following any major playstyle… Just not for all slots.
You meet a need which no one else is meeting… which means sharing it pretty much instantly destroys it.
When we’re talking about breaking people’s hearts over some pixels, I don’t think there is a lot of moral imparitive at work. Certainly when real money and lives are involved no one has much drive to rein in the predator instinct.
The Trading Post is a mini-game. An exceptionally combative bit of PvP. While it does enable folks to profit off of the foolishness of others, its fully consentual PvP. People allow themselves to be stripped of their coin or goods because they are in too much of a hurry.
We have numerous short and useful guides floating around for getting into trading. I have to admit for a week or so I’ve been pondering writing a guide for Adventurers and Harvesters who make only infrequent use of the TP to understand how to better restrict the concentration of wealth and stop acting like day-laborers in the service of our Merchant Lords.
Incinerator doesn’t do it for me, but I would like to outfit my thief with a pair of the daggers that look like icicles.
Anyone got screenshots of the Koda weapons? …I get the feeling the preview and the reality of those are quite different.
Biggest problem for me in hunting exotic weapon skins is my two 80s are both geared up – I’d rather prep for alts that are comming up that pour too many resources into characters that are already at stat-cap.

I just want a bow that wasn’t designed for Bronies. Please?
Slingshot is the best legendary bow.
I do like the sling shot.
Can’t they just put a hard dollar cap on the maximum amount you can list an item for?
Max, 500g for any item in the game? Just a thought.
Honestly, at that point a lot of items just leave circulation – there is no point selling the highest tier items at that price, so you’re better off keeping them to trade informally amongst peers who can pay you back proportionately over time.
In other words, it won’t reduce the cost of anything, it’ll just move the top items “off the books”
How annoying would it be if the player who created the guild switched servers and took the guild’s upgrades (incl. the bank) and influence with them?
How difficult would it be to detect than 75% of a guild switched severs WITH them?
I farm sparks regularly. The temple is frequently (I’d even dare to say ‘near constantly’) under Pact control on my server, and since it can be solo’d by cafinated-lunatics, its not typically that hard to amass 3-5 with map chat shout outs to git’r done.
I DO still feel like I’m getting thrashed with some sort of anti-farming DR bug (most of my lodestones drop inthe first 5-10 minutes of a harvest), but I advance my evil plot to one day have Infinite Light in little fits and stats. While I feel the drop rate is too low (I don’t enjoy going days without seeing one drop with the number of hours I put in), I am mightily interested in a kharma, laurels, or even gems-based vendor that will create something of a soft cap on their Trading Post price.
Offer’s still on the table ANet: let me buy random 3-packs of cores (to be upgraded to lodestones at my own in-game expense) for 200 gems a pack and I will hand you wads of cash. Obscene Wads. Possibly even profane wads of money (movie reference, don’t worry if you didnt’ catch it).
As a person who actually farms the things rather than buy them… I think the price is still too low. They have a time-spent equivalence to other gold grinding activities much closer to 6g a drop, and I personally would never sell mine for less than 8g a piece. You heard it here from a guy in the trenches – 4g is CHEAP for the effort involved.
Passion fruit are easier to get than karka shells, so I know that I deliberately make choices to get offensive slots rather than defensive slots on my gear for that reason. When the new amulets hit, I’m betting pretty seriously that the 30 of them are 10 stat lines x 3 infusion slot types: offensive, defensive, and utility. Unless utility offers something crazy new, I’m still gonna be weighting my gear choices towards offensive.
But I don’t mind farming my own passion fruit either.

Ok, I do have to take issue with the idea that you must use the tradepost to acquire a legendary. You must use the trade post if you want it fast and without risk, but you’re ultimately just buying someone else’s risk.
I am at 67 clovers, and I’ve bought 4 ectos, EVER. (and 2 of those went into crafting, not clover attempts)
I am at 60 to 110 of each of the tier 6 mats and I’ve NEVER bought a t6 material.
Will I get my legendary and more importantly to me the badge on the loading screen soon? No. But in one of the great examples of Slovotski’s Law #17 (you can never have the thing you want the most, so if you really want something try wanting it a little less…) I actually don’t care that much about getting a legendary. I progress towards it a little every day, but it’s a teritiary goal at best. I’m interested in Infinite Light, and so I farm sparks regularly. I’m interested in stats, and now have an ascended back and both rings of my choice on one of my 80s, and no back but both rings of my choice on my other 80 and several rings stockpiled for my gradually maturing alts.
Will I get any precursor I want before I’m done with all other aspects of the gifts? No, probably not, but I probably will have all other gifts stockpiled and ready to go when the scavenger hunt hits, and I still won’t have touched the TP to do so.
It is possible to look at a tactical environment/game and see that has become so thoroughly mastered by others that the best move is not to play. I feel that way about the TP frequently, but I try not to let that aversion taint the rest of my GW2 experience.
Hmm. And the characters would actually level up, albeit slowly. XP from the harvesting and the first few whacks on the node per day will also trigger the daily achievement.
I think I’ll just stick with dropping by occasionally with my level 80s that have stealth. I don’t buy or sell oricalcum anyway – the effort to amass oricalcum is so utterly insignificant compare to the slog that is grinding charged lodestones that I could start gathering the 1500 ore required for Infinite Light about the time I had 225 out of 250 lodestones and I’d STILL be done with the oricalcum first…
The hilariosly tragic part is the more people give up on making precurssors or trying to force them to drop and commit to just buying them, the more their price will explode – because they are contributing to the source of supply drying up.
In the last 24 hours 2193 Lodestones have been traded. The amount of sell orders on the TP doesn’t necessarily represent supply.
In my experience the amount of product bound up in standing sell orders is nearly irrelevant to supply.
There is hardly an Item I’ve EVER purchased with a buy order (rather than a buy now)that hasn’t resulted in a transaction within minutes of my posting it. Be it for Abyss dye, mystic coins, or armor runes I needed. post for a penny more for small items, or a couple silver more for larger fare and… Wait for it… BAM! Bought. Moving on.
Onthe other side of the equation, I’ve posted heaps of mithril ore 2-3c ABOVE a standing sell order supply of 20,000+… and picked up my profits the next day. That entire stock sold through (or was withdrawn temporarily), mine were bought out, and then thousands more entered the market back below my price in the space of a day.
If John Smith were to wander by with an offhanded moment (hint-hint ) for how many mithril ore changed hands in the last 24 hours, I would count on that number being 5 digits. The ragged edge where that item’s price fluctuates must vibrate like a plucked guitar string.
I really believe the vast majority of supply is in the hands of of people who are either hitting “OMG Sell Right Now” or controled by people so deeply wired into things like GWSpidey that they react the instant one new copper appears in the sale offers.
The reaction speed of this market is insane, and it causes bizzare things to happen.
A profession filter would work for weapons – show only those weapon types my currently active character can use.
So … are there any Black Lion Company NPCs I can threaten/bribe for better deals on the Trading Post?
I know this was in jest, but I would totally do a quest that the reward was a 1 hour reduction of the TP fee-upon-sale from 10% to 9%… Not because I’m a trader who could make 2-digit gold on that, but because it would be just awsome from a storytelling/roleplay perspective.
Lion’s Arch is a city of Thieves and Murderers. It’d be good fun to a have a story about pure thuggery set in that landscape once in a while.
The eye is not hooked to the proper light box. Bug it.
Champ Karka won’t move from the Ori node. It will stay but once agro is broken it will return to the node. Stockup on kits before those get nerfed also.
You mean stock up on Norns, right?
…Because my Norns of all classes stroll past the Champion Karka in cat-form. Stealth is part of the game. It will remain part of the game. Same as the Human Fire Puppies elite skill is better than all other elites skills, except in this one particular instance .
I’ve seen a couple pleasing uses of the CoE chest piece now. I may have to farm that up.
Coolness. What are you taking in the Valor master slot? You’re still running hammer?
Yeah. I really like what the first 10 points of Virtues gets you, but if any of the Valor master choices lined up with my weapon choice it would be hard to say ‘no’ to.
I’m up to 70%/+27% on my crit chance/magnitude. I’ve got a few more pieces of gear to tweak so that my own hits are a bit harder.
30 Valor is just a little too overwhelmingly common in my eyes. I just hope the Devs make good on their intentions to bring other builds up to par with the widely accepted standards, because AH is painfully near ubiquitous.
I already did: Infinite Light.
None of the legendaries interest me the slightest bit; glad that the exotics are nice.
I’ll look slightly jealous .
Have about 60% of the oricalcum and a whole 5% of the lodestones. Feer meh!
Thank you ANet for making it possible to gear up without having to run dungeons until my eyes bleed.
Um, what did you see in the sample list of rewards that makes you say that?
I see boxes of random rare (yellow) quality items. Thats not going to displace Dungeon-farmed exotic (orange) armor for a heartbeat.
The champion in Diessa definitely counts – it’s why I’m up to 4 giant kills on my acount.
There is concept art around for both Risen and Icebrood centuars. Seems like they didn’t need either right at the crunch time around launch, but we might see frosted centaurs in game as the new expansion rolls out, and Risen ones might appear later in a revamp to freshen up some of the Risen zones.
This kinda feels learn 2 play to me. Guards aren’t the only folks with reflects. Plenty of people have stability. Simple mobility and awareness cancels most of the KB opportunites.
