I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
- Jareth, King of Goblins.
I still think it’s largely insanity to believe that an 80th level item unique to exactly one loot table in the game is associated with anything but an 80th level task.
Yes, you can get 80th level items anywhere once you’re 80th level. I’ve pulled an 80th level exotic of the corpse of a 45th level landcape mob myself. But to go to the trouble of putting it in only one box and NOT match the level of the item to the level of the task? Nu-uh.
At this point I’m just waiting for someone to stroll on to the boards and say “Lookie what I found in the laurel-box for Necromancers” and a couple of screen caps of them strutting around with their new shiney…
Those boxes were specifically called out as a way of getting stuff to us that has otherwise been locked up too tightly behind the RNG.
The fact that you have a lot pretty much tells you the answer. Ascended rings are easy to get compared to exotic drops. People who do fractals steadily have outfited every alt and still have a tab-full to spare. If they were say 20 times rarer off the dailies and took 50 tokens to buy instead of ten, maybe. But as it stands? Don’t hope for much.
Hey, I’m looking forward to the scavenger hunt as much as anyone.
Also, the ONLY Infinite Light on the TP is listed at 2000 gold, which is right around what the Legendaries are going for.
You want to pay a greater than 100% mark up for assembly that take 0 skill ranks (you throw the junk in the fountain – not a serious barrier to execution) knock yourself out.
The price to craft one is way, way lower, and it drops even further the more you are willing to pace and spread out your buy offers.
Right this instant (I have it open in another window) you need to offer 3g15s4c to have the highest offer, and high offers for lodestones get filed within minutes if not seconds. You’d only need to offer 1g22s51c to have the high offer for cores.
Prices are even lower at night.
Shop better. It’ll save you bank .
If you think Infinite Light costs more to make than the prices being asked for a finished Legendary, you aren’t shopping very well.
Then again, I’ve got 50% of the Oricchalcum I need without ever having bought so much as a single nugget, and I’m at 10% of the charged lodestones. If I cashed out my t6’s set aside for the Gifts of Might and Magic, I’d be making serious inroads on completion.
he means if you spend your time farming sparks for your lodestones, you’ll not be as efficient as say…someone who farms t6 mats that drop more frequently and sell them to buy your lodestones
And every time someone says this, the price goes up.
Somebody has to actually do the work. They don’t appear in the TP by magic.
When you consider farming gold is another way of saying ‘devalue the currency as fast as humanly possible’ then producing the actual goods at a similar rate is always better than producing coin .
Luna-tic shoping binge is GO!
I wish we players could farm enough of the blasted items to move the ‘intended’ equilibrium closer to where it was when the bots were around.
I do farm that many. I just don’t sell them after I get them.
When you have 9 t6 mats drop during a single round of Plinx you realize Plinx nets you gold faster than a dungeon run IF you aren’t after those mats for yourself.
A quick note here to reinforce that supply orders do not necessarily imply supply. In the last 24 hours apprx 50,000 of these were sold on the TP.
…with around 20 of those being mine – posted well above the lowest standing sale offer, and yet being bought before I checked back a few hours later.
I feel like a lot of commonly traded items are subject to the lunar tides. I game late at night by USA standards, post all my stuff well above lowest sales offer pices, and come dawn, the buyer tide comes in and my stuff sells.
People say “buy low, sell high.” I’m starting to say “buy around pre-dawn, price all goods for sale around late afternoon.”
Not even close: 9 and 11
hm, i’m assuming there’s no way of telling whether those were all unique/different ones?
We can probably prove that to be false – each time a single one is bought and resold the price would have to jump 15% to break even and more like 20-25% to be worth the effort. That sort of movement we probably can see from the outside.
One legendary? No. Everyone and their mother seems to be roaming Lion’s Arch with one. TWO legendaries? I’d say that’s impressive.
I think many folks find that less impressive – because now there is absolutely no questions that at least one of them was in large part bought.
I would agree with you if, and ONLY IF, the amount of effort required was relatively equal. With the current implementation I could farm for years and spend hundreds of gold on exotics to throw in the MF and never see a precursor. Bob could come along and throw in 4 junk rares and get a precursor.
And you expect that someon else who has done this should turn over the results for anything less than a fortune?
The more you point out the processess of acquiring them is dificult, the more it justifies the astronomical price for a successful outcome.
Your choices are make one or pay for someone to take the risk for you. Complaining they’re charging more than you are happy about for a risk you are refusing to take yourself is kinda silly.
Only sword change I see regularly requested that I would agree with completely is make the blocks from button 3 actually be blocks – visible in the UI and triggering block-based effects.
We have a trait that gives them regen: Battle Presence.
In my experience up through at least level 43, sword is a beast. Its taking aggro off me and holding stuff until that stuff is dead. Its taken aggro and held 1 vet + 1 normal long enough that if I get downed, I’m able to fully heal myself and get back in the fight before it’s dead. It takes aggro so well I have to wonder if it’s got some sort of threat bonus.
Even at level 80, I’ find the sword very effective against massive swarm fights in most of the regularly farmed Cursed Shore events.
My experience is so completely different from what other people are reporting I’m trying to figure out if the spirit weapons inherit stats from the owner in some way.
Looking for any Legendary really, just to fill in the seal on the character select, so any precursor will do. specific legendary gift waiting until precursor is determined.
have 77 clovers.
have 10% of the ectos
Have 20% of might and mastery done.
Have skill points to spare (bloodstone shard)
have 50% of obsidean
Have exploration finished
have 2 runestones – waiting till I have more money before buying more.
Mostly I’m working on Infinite Light and waiting for a second round of Legendaries or Legendary Armor. None of them look right for my characters, so I’m in no real rush other than collecting t6 mats.
There is a second Dev comment on the topic I don’t see up there.
I though deleted characters were held in escrow/limbo like 48 hours or so…?
Its there as a precaution aainst hacked account vandalism.
Maybe I’m thinking of a different MMO.
I’m leaning towards Destroyer. Yes, I would have to be such a butt-kicker that even Primordus would have to go “whoa dude. You’re IN!” before zotting me into an immortal lava lord.
In some ways this thread offer a more interesting storyline than the official personal story – Prove your worth to the dragon of your choice. Fall, but but fall magnificently into the pit of your choice.
Grenade engineers have to ground target everything constantly. Tome of Wrath is only 20 seconds every 180 and you only have to ground target 2 of 5 skills and the AoE is much bigger to boot. Just deal with it.
Point = completely missed.
Its not the mechanics of the Tome skills being commented on, its the NOISE it makes.
I’d like to see the weapons hang around now — not die after they timeout. This would compensate for the fact they can take damage.
I agree they still need more health, the ability to receive boons, regen health outside of combat, and get stats from the guardian (similar to mesmer illusions which receive bonuses from the mesmer’s pwr, prc, vit, tough).
If you have Battle Presence they most definitely regenerate in and out of combat. I think they can also benefit from Empowering Might. I’ll have to check if they are getting other buffs but no reason to think they don’t.
Grandmaster trait Wrathful Spirits just got a whole lot better!
Not really considering they die within seconds of summoning.
Where are you using these things that that happens? Because mine basically last until the run out naturally in most of the Orr dynamic events. Full blown-AoE boss hits nuke them, but against hordes of normal stuff they seem to perform fairly well. Testing back in the low (teens) and Mid (40s) zones, I had the sword successfully tanking for me. More than once its even pulled everything off me and held it while I self-healed after being downed.
If you yourself have an OCD need to fill it in, more power to you. Realize however, that you’re making a conscious choice to chase after a luxury item.
No more than the “OCD” need people have for Best in Slot gear in a game that you can generally waltz through in greens once you know the fights.
Its not a goal people made up, its a goal the Devs enshrined. Honestly, without that goal, I suspect most people are largely done with what this game has to offer after a few months. The huge gap in goals between BIS-every-slot and Legendaries is one of the things the Devs have specifically highlighted as an issue they need to address.
And in an envirement that is a GAME, that’s again a meaningless distinction.
I think the only people that require anything in relation to Guild Wars 2 are the RMT and bot folks. They work here. The rest of us are just on vacation.
From a gameplay perspective, you need exotics/ascended to access gated content (fractals) and gain max stats available in game.
Legendaries offer you no additional content, nor any power increase. So from a gameplay perspective, it’s not needed.
You seem to have misplaced the last of my paragraphs – from a “gameplay perspective” they are absolutely necessessary – filling in those seals is the top teir of all gameplay objectives, and only a legendary will do it.
I dont’ even think of them cosmetically – most of them would look like goat-butt on my characters, but filling in those seals? Yeah, I’m putting in some hours for THAT goal. I finished getting apex stats quite a while ago. If that was all there was to do, I’d be banging down the door of ESO, not hanging out doing stuff here .
Its a following effect from kharma beinging valuable again. With kharma translating (at a painfully low rate) to lodestones, doing 80th level dynamic events is back in season.
I know I prioritize massacring the spider waves over the humanoid waves in the shelter camp event specifically because they drop venom. I also try to persuad most pugs to kill everything in the Jade Maw fractal because the squids drop venom.
Precursors, like all other luxury goods, are the worst example to begin with. Nobody really needs them.
I see this a lot, and I have to wonder…
What in this game do you NEED?
Its a meaningless distinction.
Every single player has a hollow seal on the character select page tapping them on the shoulder saying “hey, you haven’t done this yet…” Not 1%. Not 5%. All of us. Its on everyone’s to-do list.
Legendaries are just a show of coin now. Spend a few weeks standing at a trading post vendor, you get a legendary.
Mad Clock Tower, THAT was an achievement
I don’t have that one, but I certainly applaud those that do. I had great fun trying to get it .
Oh, tell me how I feel next!
You’re feeling I couldn’t possible know what your actually feeling…
…Sorry just saw that gag in an episode of NCIS last week .
What you are actually thinking is:
Shinies!
gross overstatement
working on my second legendary and i didn’t flip or manipulate a single item on the tp
It’s not necessarily the flipping… Its that the T6 items can be bought. Its that the lodestones nearly have to be bought. Its that mystic coins (laurels without the benefit of hindsight) can be bought. If the mystic coins had been account bound we wouldn’t have seen the first Legendary finished a mere 40 days after the game launched. Well, not unless that person had been on every single day, AND hit 7 x10 and 7 x1 clover attmepts in a row…
Way, way too much of the process can be side-stepped with money, both real and virtual.
I think its an indication of bad math – since the split is supposed to be fixed at 15%.
My sense is the amount of gold you get for gems slowly goes up because ANet has to entice people to give them cash for the gems. If the rate isn’t appealing enough people just wait until they feel it is. When someone does buy, the rate goes down a bit – they don’t want to over shoot the mark, they want it to hang in that region and see if anyone else bites. Meanwhile people are aways spending the monopoly money from inside the game on gems to get bank slots and bag slots and backpacks made from real Quaggan skin, and that pushes the coin-per gems up each time a buy occurs with in game currency.
I’m in full rampager typically (for armor at least). If I do something stupid or am slow to react, yes I get punished, but no more so than many other classes and less than several. But my single target DPS feels comperable to my support minded Warrior, and my PBAoE damage is way bette – while radiating boons and regen constantly.
In that spirit, if you are out pug’ing dungeons its easy to end up in a group with 3-4 dedicated damage dealers. Being the support guy means knowing there is at least one support guy in you team!
I’m actually back to running my 0/30/0/30/10 build in dungeons and out in Orr doing DEs. Yes, I’m not tanky-tough and have to watch my health and dodge to avoid damage, but as a facilitator of victory its going quite well. Empower Might, 72% crit, and +70% might duration means that the full bore luantic DPS machines in my company are in their full glory. Only thing I’m finding I have to really watch out for is now that Battle Presence is on 100% of the time it seems to stack up some fierce heal-aggro. Any boss fight that isn’t over fast ends up with the boss glued to me. Fun times .
The fact is that guardians aren’t the best dps class and you still think of choosing this to dps just means that you are not using your judgment right.
But an all-out DPS guardian has more inherant survivability than an all-out DPSer of most other professions. It is for the most part a working spectrum – that the spectrum extends beyond the class in the ouchie-direction doesn’t mean those farther that direction aren’t giving up something to get there.
That you start with the Guardian profession and mold it into its most extreme killer form just means that you still prefer having some survivability to go with what you can dish. It doesn’t mean you auto-fail at delivering one full character worth of awesome to your team.
did some weird merge happen in this thread?
the title is least friendly mmo- and you guys are talking about dye?
What dyes really look like (not just the names or those lying little squares of color) is a recuring theme for just kibitzing in town . Its one of those light social topics that comes up regularly.
I’m ussually fast enough on the keyboard to get in a few jokes during a Plinx sequence, and Cursed Shores chat can be worth the occasional pithy remark once I’m sure auto attack will finish off whatever is gnawing on my leg that second.
It’s also not unussual for me to shake my fist at the Mystic Forge in map chat when I walk by even now. Me and Zomorros go way back, and not all of it is pleasant . I’ve got my 77 clovers now, but there was some awful (and public) cussing involved.
Is it wrong when “the dye argument” starts in LA, I typically just say where I’m at and model the 8 darkest dyes for them so they can see for themselves?

What? Sometimes it’s just easier that way.
What server were you on?
Borlis Pass. Why do you ask?
Because I’ve done exactly that out in Orr that for people on Fort Aspenwood, and was just wondering if I was being fondly remembered .
Its the Dredge. At least for now.
The mountain with all the permanent vents in the Wayfarer Hills zone is the same mountain that is a huge drege hang-out on the Charr side of the zone boundry. All the refugees radiate out from that mass.
The dead merchant you find just down slope from the vents has blood running from his ears and burns.
Now, it’s possible the Dredge stired up a fresh surge of Destroyers accounting for the burns and the heat being vented, but the blood from ears is a pretty clear pointer to their sonic weaponry. They are definitely involved if not the overarching threat.
Most of the time if I ask a question in any chat venue it will be ignored by almost everyone. But then, when someone does respond, they go above and beyond the call of duty to help out. For example, in Orr, there was one view point and skill point that I couldn’t figure out. Whenever I asked people in map chat or say chat it was ignored. But finally one guy responded and went so far as to jump with me through half of the jumping puzzle to show me how to get around the hard part. And this has also happened for some other points of interest and such that are confusing: people just help each other out. I asked one guy why he was willing to help me out and he told me that it was because someone had shown him how to find the point of interest, so he was just paying it forward. So then when I see someone else in need, I also feel the need to “pay it forward” in a way.
What server were you on?
Sounds like great fun!
Its very friendly, but you do need to learn to read (virtual) body language. A lot of the fighting bits are a little too action-packed to stop and type.
When loading a trebuchet you can use 12, maybe even 20, of those lop-eared buggers in a single volly, so yes, Asura make for much better ammo than Norns…
First time doing fractals in November: levels 1-8 gave about 5-6 rares per run AVERAGE (som runs with 8, some with 2) and 1 exotic every 2-3 runs.
Couple of weeks after that: levels 10-16 gave 3-4 rares per run, 1 exotic every 4-5 runs.
NOW: levels 16-20, 3-5 rares per run. Exotic? Does it even exist?
What makes you think the higher levels are supposed to drop the same stuff as the lower levels only with ascended gear on top of that?
Try running the low level stuff again. I have two level 80s and one of them has never made it out of the single digits. Running 2, 4, 6, or 8 for the daily on that secondry charater nets me great loot. My main is clearly drawing from a different loot table doing the daily difficulty 10 (but gets the ring tokens). Guess which one gets the exotics far more often? I am completely unsurprised if 16-20 is a different table from that…
Anet can make a sub-daily: “Run in a circle around a tree”
And players will open threads “which tree is best suited for this?”
That made me laugh. Out loud. More than once.
No changes were made to loot in fractals what so ever, they will be covered in release notes if changes of that nature are made.
Care to comment on whether or not the intended loot in fractals changes as you level up?
We are aware of when ring and then infused rings start dropping as you advance through the ranks of difficulty. My experince has alway been that cores and lodestones are dramatically more common on LOWER dificulties. Are they prehaps deliberately phased out as you start getting a chance at the ascened gear?
People say they feel they get fewer rares as time has gone on. Perhaps they’ve just advanced to a difficulty where rares make up less of the potential loot because asceneded gear and fractal weapons become the primary reward being offered…?
I’ve got enough other stuff to work on building all the gifts without buying my way to one that I doubt I’ll have to wait long for them to roll out the scavenger hunt once I’ve actually finished all the other gifts.
I’ve got close to 800 of the required 2000 T6 mats from real live harvesting (rather than the TP) and it’ll be another 2 months or so before I’m finished. No doubt I’ll wrap up the Gift of Jump-er Battle in that time and have obsidian and a bloodstone shard lined up ready to go at that point. Got my clovers and I’m 17 out of 250 on the ectos. Its a process .
THEN I’ll get all twitchy about precursors.
Or not, since I’m working on Infinite Light at the same time, and thats the skin I actually care about.
