I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
- Jareth, King of Goblins.
Being an Engineer you only have 2 choices when your making a legendary. You can either make the Quip or the Predator.
…And then the Flameseeker Prophecies went and cried in the corner.
At least I’m not competing with you for the precurrsor on my engineer.
A: All of them.

…they take way too little time if you are able to BUY your way through the mats.
Truth be told, I hope the Legendary Armor they’ve hinted at has an entirely seperate system of gifts that CANNOT be shorthanded by money in any way, shape, or form.
Ever tought about the fact that they might want it the way they have it now?
Yes. And if that’s so then they can have the attrition they rightly deserve of people that just get fed up at the ludcriously low drop rate and the “heroic” MMO where the only class that matters is Day Trader.
They introduded the whole tier of Ascended gear because they know the time between full exotic and even a single Legedary is too bloody long for people who log in to swing a sword rather than finess a margin sale. If you are going to go to the trouble of introducing an entire teir of gear (and one that can’t be bought with coin, imagine that) then you know the Devs have to be at least looking at some of the choke points where sword-swingers are getting kicked in the junk by coin-counters until they scream bloody murder.
I think this is comedy.
People would run dungeons like crazy!
Which immediately tells you this is about the least desirable way of fixing what is a real problem. People already run them like crazy. You don’t further incentivise something the is DONE TO DEATH. We need a way to buy lodestones directly from the game, but it would be better if that way brough attention to a system not being used enough. Preferably 2 or 3 avenues being added at the same time.
Wow.
Just wow.
-snicker-
Crafters want to be able to turn them into other tier 6 yellows so they can pursue the recipies that already exist.
Traders with massive inventories of them want them to have a new use so they can finally re-sell them for 1150% profit :p.
You don’t think that if such information were known it would be on every fan website and probably a sticky on this very forum? That people had put in hundreds of hours dumping stuff in the Mystic Forge but were just waiting for someone to come along and blighthely ask before sharing their results?
As to the act of true prophecy you want to see over how the market is going to move, well, here goes: if the Devs get the scavenger hunt in place, I think we’re all expecting a drop. If not, the steady consolidation of super-traders will ensure that precurrsor price NEVER goes down without ANet’s direct and fairly blatant intervention.
Place your bets accordingly. But nothing is going to stop it from being gambling.
Just be happy that Anet allowed you to decide for yourself which of your five skills that your character should use as often as possible (spam). Or you would have to spam that key with your fingers yourself.
You can set your auto-execute on any slot…
I have run whole fractals with “For Great Justice!” on auto-execute (because I tend to forget to spam it) and done the staby-slashy button pushing manually.
Greatsword is an AoE/multiple enemies weapon. If you said “2,3,4,5 less powerful than 1 while running sword/torch” hilarious laughter would ensue.
As 2-h weapon greatsword is an integrated package. All the buttons work together in exactly 1 way (compared to having multiple off-hand combinations), and that way is to injure and CONTROL a large number of mobs. You get to groups quick and mitgate their initial assault (2), group targets up (5,5), build aggro with their own damage while not dying (4), and hit just hard enough to keep aggro when the rest of your team dished their AoEs into your lovely pile up (3).
If you want “I’z gonna do high single target DPS” run Sword/Torch which has a fraction of the survivability and almost no control, but hits like a truck with a big ol’ Guardian Class Symbol stenciled on the side.
I solo sword/torch. I duo greatsword. Other classes can and will hit harder, but they hit harder still when every monster in draw distance has to look at me first .
1) Use your imagination.
2) Good solution, and one that rewards him for playing a more finished crafter.
So you have 313 shards?
Head start on your Legendary Number Two I guess.
(not sure why you would buy the fixed portion before knowing the outcome of the variable part)
Did you consent? Did you get to enjoy the benefit while waiting for the change?
What? He’d waited a full year according to his calendar. Mad King says so!
I agree to making them account wide. Spending nearly 5g on ONE dye for it to be only usable on one character is a bit much.
There is no dye costing that much. And if you don’t want to do it, don’t. No one is forcing you to. Buy a similar shade and move on. People who are obsessive over little details will always pay more.
Ah the irony dripping off posts from 3 months ago.
A mere 5 g? Wouldn’t that be great as the highest the cost could go?
Since having the ability to set a level requirement on recipies took time and effort to program – why would you think it’s a bug? There is nothing ‘accidental’ about it.
Play through the daily achievment on your alt each day. It’s like 2 free levels. You’ll be 80 before you know it.
Good reading. Thanks.
Looking forward to when any of those intentions become actual patch notes .
Is there any update on when the insane 250 ecto’s for the back piece upgrade is going to get lowered? According to the Reddit Q&A they were going to do this.
If you’re tracking them closely enough to have read that, what makes you think you missed that big of a reveal about the future?
Anet already stated that it was a mistake to force people to play one aspect of the game in order to get the ascended gear.

They give unique tokens to compartmentalize Dev screw ups.
If they accidentally make a path trivially easy, it keeps there from being a universal dungeon currency that makes ALL rewards for dungeons trivially easy to acquire.
Seperate currencies buys them time to fix goofs.
They fail because the level of effort has steadily grown, while the ones made under comparitively trivially difficult circumstances are still being waved around as if they were as hard to make as they are now.
The issue for many isn’t that they require time, its that the time required has skyrocketed since launch. The rates at which you make coin or kharma have declined. The prices demands for your coin to short cut the time otherwise spent harvesting have exploded.
The people starting to make Legendaries now face a Herculaean task compared to when ectos cost 3s and you could force a precurrsor out of the Mystic Forge semi-reliably. Maybe the task in now more what the Devs intendeed since eveyone blathers on and on about about them being the capstone in a career despite the fact I see 10-20 of them everey day in Lion’s Arch and the WvW maps, the product of “careers” which by definition are only a couple months old, tops.
I am getting my ectos quick: I craft rares (often for XP on alts) & I play fractals and get several yellows a run to salvage. My ectos are steadily piling towards the ceiling as I wait for my next chance to buy obsidean shards (after the holidays no doubt).
…Oh, you meant get them fast from the Trading Post, where I can use my money to arm traders to drive up prices on some other item I may need later?
Kitten that.
Trahearne needs to be permanently bound to Orr by his cleansing spell. If he leaves, it collapses. Honestly he should have been forced to literally take root and become a new, smaller pale tree that guards and purifies the heart of Orr from now on.
That would be the sacrifice this character is so despertely lacking. That would show some real commitment to his Wyld Hunt. That would get him the hell out of frame so the story can maybe go somewhere.
I just checked all the ghost spawns in the map, and this particular area, and they’re all using the default respawn times. (95-120). So my above comment applies: is it possible that a ghost was killed nearby, and happened to respawn near your location?
My experience is there are TONS of locations where there is a second layer of critters “held in reserve”. You kill what you see in the area intially and the is a spawn (NOT a respawn) on a new critter almost on top of where you were fighting. If you kill that, you get the remainign time before the intial critter completes is 2m cooldown. The second layer of critters is also on its cooldown though, ready to spring out litterally the second the primary resident is down a second time.
If people aren’t successfully killing the reserves (either dead or running), they won’t see that after the second wave is down the area is quiet for a brief period.
Orr IS particularly bad for this behavior.
They said Legendaries will be Account bound in near future. Funny, eh?

I’ve dropped more items in lvl10 fractal than lvl30-40, I DON’T know what is going on, REALLY. It’s so much intriguing, weird for my mere human mind.
Its interesting you say that, because I know I drop more cores in difficulty 1-4 than I do running difficulty 10 regularly. In my experience rares pretty much cease to exist above level 7. That’s part of why I was so stunned, I typically get jack squat out of difficulty 10 runs (other than the dashed hopes for an ascended ring – this one was my first).
But if you don’t want to go through the trouble to get a legendary, maybe you don’t rate a legendary?
Maybe if you go through the trouble of getting a Legendry, you don’t rate getting snooty about a mass of pixels.
Hi,
We’ve seen reports from players questioning the randomness of the drop mechanisms in GW2 and in particular asking if it’s been changed recently. This is not the case and we don’t think that the randomness mechanism is misbehaving, but we’re running some data to be sure there isn’t anything unexpected going on. So far nothing shows anything suspicious but we’ll keep gathering data and analyzing it.
So we’ve created this thread so that players can share with us their concrete data about any perceived strange drop behavior they encounter. Please be as accurate as possible, reporting only concrete data that you’ve experienced first hand. Among the information we’re interested in: map where you played, creatures you fought that dropped items, recipes from the Mystic Forge that you used.
Thanks for your understanding and help!
I’ll make you a deal-
You POST the expected base drop tables by rarity of standard, veteran, and champion mobs and I’ll tell you if that in any way confroms to my experience killing those things in verious loadouts of magic find.
I’m not doing your QA’s job for free without a little transparency from your side. Especially when they can do a database query at the touch of a button.
I just has an insane Fractals of the Mist run on difficulty 10.
3 exotics
3 rares
1 lodestone
4+ cores
…oh, and an ascended ring for good measure.
This was wearing about 60% MF and running peach tarts because I had some laying around.
(I got more oranges and yellows than I got blues!)
Only thing I didn’t get was a precursor .
Pesky ol’ RNG!
1) Add in trading
2) add in trade channel
3) win
You missed…
4) autoban forever anyone who puts the letters WTB or WTS in any other channel.
Oh, that’s not practical is it. Fine. Lets stick with what we’ve got.
Not having a trade option in an MMO is ridiculous……..
Its not ridiculous, its possibly the best innovation I’ve seen in an mmo EVER.
The only way to actually trade without any chance to get scammed is TP: But if you ever want to sell a pretty expensive item, you’ll have to pay quite a big fee to place it on the TP.
Another way is to use the ingame mail, but this asks for getting scammed. Especially when you want to trade with some random stranger…
So… why is there no (fee-free) Trading System? Are there plans to add a Trading System?
Big stinky tom cat NO.
Do you know why we don’t haven an unending fluffy deluge of WTS/WTB chat spam in every zone?
Because under the current system trying to dodge the trade fees that way is stupid.
Eat the fees and enjoy a chat sytem that isn’t buried under Trader trash.
Accessibility of gold doesn’t need to change at all. If you had more you’d just get taken for more at the TP.
What needs to change is IF ANet would like to shift the emphasis more towards getting out and being a hero as opposed to a day trader (its a spectrum, the game could gravitate towards many points along that range) is to increase the drop rates for desired goods – more value entering the system, less worthless coin inflating it constantly. If more people are able to see acceptible progress towards their goals by adventuring, we’ll have less people having their entire piggybank held hostage to market pricing.
I’m personally pretty content if I see 1% progress per day, playing 2-3 hours. In the case of trying to get Infinite Light, if I can dig up 15 orichalcum per day and get 2-3 (average 2.5) Charged lodestones in a day, I’d call that a good day. A day good enough I don’t even look at the market for those two items because I’m creeping forward on my own, thanks.
Orichalcum I have dialed into that level. The lodestone drop rate does not make that feasible. So against my better judgement (and frankly against my self-interest, because giving money to the market just arms it to cut you off further) I occasionally track the prices of lodestones. Haven’t bought any yet, but I look.
Unfortunate.
You will have one more opportunity: if you upgrade the item to an Infused version I believe it will become account bound, soulbound on equip. At that point you can at least move it to a character for whom a book might be more appropriate (and recoup some of your investment).
Renewed focus is plenty powerful. Moreso if your virtues have additional effect. I don’t know what people are talking aobut not being able to move during the cast time – I move while invulnerable all the time. Further, you can pop you virtues while Renewal is in progress – the reset is at the very end. I’ve definitely had uh-oh moments were I’ve hit renewal and then dumped all my virtues during the cast and come out of invulnerability ready to hit them again as needed.
And the shorter cooldown compared to the others is nothing to sneeze at.
I’m guessing that legendary armor will be just chest slot when initally rolled out. Maaaaybe chest and pants.
You are not going to get BiS forever for 6 slots via a box for one round of Legendary grinding. Put that out of your mind.
Yeah, several plants are zone specific. Go to the 1-15 Charr area and pick some chilies.
Put in a ticket to Support (its not anything the public needs to see). Be extremely clear and polite. Put the mistaken object in the first slot of your character’s inventory and tell them that’s where it is so they can look it up effortlessly when they pull your file. Since its a zero sum game (sames stats, same cost, all other materials identical) you migth get a favorable responce.
I’ve found doing all of the above steps have lead to positive results dealing with Support for games that have been lesss responsive than the GW2 crew, so maximize your odds and give it a try.
Personally I adore how them going up on the TP deflates the egos of folks who thought their shiney made them special.
Get a legendary because you think it looks good on YOU, not because you think it makes you look better than OTHER PLAYERS.
I’m up to 44 clovers with the 30-33% feel very much still in place (2 seperate runs of 20 that produced 7). On a lark I tried out the x10 recipe. I got 10 Destroyer lodestones, so In a way that’s better than the clovers on that pull of the slot machine.
While I’m working at getting lodestone for Infinite Light, I’m also slowly grinding out the 2 gisfts that are common to all Legendaries so I can be at least partway reeady if a new round ocomes out that have skins I want. I encourage you to focus on your chosen skin, but also chip away at the Legendary shared compnents.
Do you own one? Then stop screwing with other people’s accomplishements – they made it because they like it even if you don’t. The “work” you want to change it is the exact same effort to add a new one to the list of possibilities to be pursued.
The recipies sold at the vendor near the Claw of Jormag event also have a level 80 requirement and indicate “you have already learned this” rather than “Your level is insuficient” when you try to use it at less than level 80.
You got a license to print money with that sheet. Store it ’till your Jewel alt is 80 (and frankly, get them to 80 ASAP). It will be totally worth the one bank slot being taken up with it until you are ready.

Possibly Silver. The light in Lions Arch normally has a slightly yellow cast to it, but that armor is showing very blue highlights, so it could also be Blue Ice.
Edit: just did some color checking. Try “Silt”
(edited by Nike.2631)
i rather see them working on the current legendaries looks than new legendaries
Um, no. You do not screw with what people have and expect anything but disaster.
You add new options.
This is terrible! Legendary weapons are supposed to show that players have mastered various aspects of the game.
I would say selling a skin for 9500g IS showing a player has mastered the only aspect of this game that seems to matter: using the Trading Post.
No other activity rewards your time fractionally as much as playing Trader Wars 2. Why would this be any different? People who log into the game to swing their sword (or swing a pick axe at a Orichalcum node) border on being nothing more than suckers working for the Traders. “You just ran some dungeons and earned a whole gold? Good for you, in the same amount of time I bumped up the price of six of the components you needed to spend that gold on to advance your endgame goals by 18%. You are now farther from your goal than when you started. Get back in there and bring me another gold, sucker.” If you look at precurrsor prices, that statement is not even slightly a joke.
The type of Legendary you are thinking of is Ascended gear – at least you actually have to swing a sword to get that reward (at least until until Ascended weapons come out and the cash-bought Legendaries auto-upgrade to that too).
(edited by Nike.2631)
Seems like my mjolnir has to wait…for a possibly looong time.
If you think you’re gonna buy your way to one… Put that cat out of your mind.
You’re welcome to come out and smash sparks with the rest of the harvesters though . In about a year and a half of daily multi-hour grinding, you migth even have your 340th…
Come on ANet: Gems for random Cores. Take your money (without the never ending coin devaluation) and call it GOOD.
If 50g were reasonable, the 10g one would have sold (and likely been relisted in the quest for 400% profit minus fees)…
Strangely, the 8g one DID sell.
Hmm…
The day the present a legendary armor is the day the already half-beaten economy crashes.
Melodramatic, and totally untrue.
There is NOTHING about a forever-best-in-slot and hopefully good looking item for the armor slots on your sheet that is any different from the forever-best-in-slot and gee-I-wish -they-were-good-looking weapons we have in the game now.
If anything we might see the “recipie Dev” get off their insane, monomanical CHARGED LOADSTONES OR NOTHING kick and see some recipies that use other t6 rares in a way worth pursuing.
