[Opinion] Enrage Timers don't fit GW2.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Nordom.3485

Nordom.3485

well that topic has already been covered I believe (but I won’t go into the painful process of finding it, since the forum search tool doesn’t work)
Enrage timers are really not that important apart from a couple of bosses.(most bosses have mechanics that will kill you if your dps sucks anyways i.e sabetha platform hp,gorse updrafts, maybe sublings on sloth, madness on xera, buff stacks on KC)

That said, what kind of role were you trying to fill? Same way as in “other mmos” the only ones allowed some extra survivability in a group are the healer and the tank, if you’re filling a dps spot (condi or otherwise) you are expected to be running max dps rotations and gear, depending on your class. Generally the more time a boss takes, the more chances of a mistake happening, so ofc you want a boss to be as fast as possible

On the upside, if you’re not aware of it, you can change the stats on your ascended gear without having to re-craft anything
As a sidenote I’m really grateful for the lack of gearchecks and gear walls in gw2 and it’s a big part of the reason I’m interested in the game; there’s nothing worse than taking a break and coming back to an mmo you find out that the gear you worked so hard for is now crap and you have to grind from 0

Seizure Warning

And now I’m not allowed to play agame behind my PC?

What should I do with my time? Sit behind daisies and read a book? The seizures will not go away. Problem is unneccesary triggers… I have 4 places in Tyria I avoid. I’ve played this game for 9600 hours and suffered a seizure twice…. both were directly realted to on screen effects. I’ve played computergames for the past 34 years now, sometimes there are bad games, I find I cannot play first person shooters, Simulators (racing/ flying and so on) and sometimes (in-game) movies tend to be particularly horrid.

Outside gaming I have a seizure every couple of hours (absences) when I’m okay, every couple of dozen minutes when not obiding by the rules, and (generalising) partial complex attacks every couple of weeks, mostly after triggers in most cases, most often -NOT- related to computers.

My worst seizure was in februari 2008 when I got 8 tonic clonic attacks in series… I nearly died that time… Doctors tried to stop attacks and at the 5th one my wife was called to say goodbye, and after 7 they saw no hope… at all… I lost more then 5kg of bodyweight in 7,5 hours, mostly loss of fluid. Like I said I had 8 that time and I suffered muscle aches for 5 weeks, and leaving unable to walk for 14 days.

I’ve crushed molars, brokens ribs and other bones, destroyed my shoulders and knees during seizures. It’s difficult to find a decent medicaton in my case and its inoperable. alternative options have been evaluted a longer tiime ago and recently and have been rejected.

I’m in no state to dictate what someone does or does not do, what I meant is playing a pc game with a history of epilepsy is a “use at your own risk” kind of thing, no one else is responsible. You can start running with a broken ankle, but you can’t blame the floor when you hurt yourself. My brother has had epileptic incidents with video games, so he just doesn’t play video games, that simple.

Video games are generally something you shouldn’t be doing at all if you have any form of epilepsy, as far as I’m aware. Hell, simply staring at a screen is discouraged and I doubt you didn’t know that. When you willingly do something that can trigger your condition, then that’s on you unfortunately

Need a step by step guide on infusions

in Players Helping Players

Nordom.3485

you have to give some info as to how many relics(pristine and normal) you have, how many of each kind of the mist essences you have, how much ecto, how much gold you’re willing to spend at once, and most importantly how many ascended pieces on the gear setup you intend to infuse (armor/weapons/amulet/backpack/rings/accessories)
Infusing your gear is not an easily defined step by step process because at start you work with what you get.

Different Raid Difficulty Would Satisfy Most

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Nordom.3485

Nordom.3485

wut xD but the whole point of the raids, that makes them time-consuming, is hitting a difficulty wall that you need to plan and think ahead to overcome, if you adjust the difficulty to your personal preferences it misses the point of a raid.
What makes them repeatable is the rewards and the exhilarating effect of overcoming something extremely difficult, neither of which are or should be present in lower difficulty modes.

Different Raid Difficulty Would Satisfy Most

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Nordom.3485

Nordom.3485

In reverse order:
I assure you that most raiders care for the gameplay, not the story, as well as anyone that decides to get into raiding; the story available in raids is minimal and accessible in a clear wing
Giving raid-exclusive skins to people that didn’t work for it, is something I’m against as well
“Catchup gear” is supposed to be exotic, no? I personally had crafted the exotic version of vipers accessories before I managed to get the asc accessory from raid.
All in all, creating a story mode could be a good idea (making newbies accustomed to a less potent version of each boss attack maybe) however I don’t think it’s gonna be worth it.
Raids are meant to be challenging, and you end up spending the majority of your time fighting bosses or planning how to beat them rather than experiencing the story. Taking the challenge out of them means that the extent of the content becomes quite short (it’s only 3 bosses per wing) also it makes the idea of “raid” less meaningful (atm raids are there to be the “very very endgame” that is barred from casual players).

Lastly spending resources on rebalancing and overhauling preexisting content to cater for a not-so-large portion of the playerbase, especially when said content will have no replayability, is something I don’t see anet doing anytime soon.

Suggestion for Stopping Personal ABUSE in GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nordom.3485

Nordom.3485

You can always purchase a single player game if you don’t want social interactions with other human beings, or are incapable of dealing with them in a rational manner. Because this thread is not rational; and bumping it after 1 year cause you didn’t get what you want, is not rational either.
That aside, I doubt anyone is gonna cater a game to your personal satisfaction(role-playing is not the priority of gw2) and create an infraction system according to your distorted moral code
As a side note, I can’t find a reason for this thread to exist, it serves the purpose of 1 person venting his anger and instead of finding a solution to his problem (find a less populated map, use instances, be mentally prepared to attract all kinds of attention when you rp in a city) literally screams on the forums till people obey him (cause this has strayed too far from a single request)

Why is everything so unfriendly to melee?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nordom.3485

Nordom.3485

well melee has always been harder than ranged(fotm arch diviner, mai trin, world bosses etc, all reck you if you melee), HoT just follows suit, that’s why ranged weapons have lower dps than melee (except staff ele i guess)
If it’s any consolation, that disparity is equalized in raids xD

Sigil of Force vs Bloodlust

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Nordom.3485

Nordom.3485

bloodlust gives you 10% increased damage at maximum stacks considering your base power is 2500, sigil of force add 5% to your current power so it gives you around 125 power before reduction, cmiiw if you really want to have the highest dps output try combine bloodlust with sigil of air(if you have high critical chance).

Not quite. Sigil of force is a DAMAGE multiplier, not stat multiplier. Using procession of blades on DH as an example, with 2306 power, it’s damage is 3370. With another 250 power, it goes up to 3740. Sigil of force would give a much lower damage boost primarily because of the trap’s skill coefficient being 5.5. If a skill’s coefficient is .5 or lower, sigil of force will give more damage than bloodlust. That being said, bloodlust is a worse choice in some areas, whether due to lack of stuff to kill, or because it’s harder to NOT go down.

Uh.. not quite, power is a damage multiplier as well so coefficient is irrelevant; 250 power is always better than +5% damage, unless you have 5000 power (which is practically unattainable)
on the other hand assuming you sit at 3k power, which is commonplace with 20-25 mightstacks, force is better only if bloodlust is stacked to 15 stacks or below(+150 power)
Also regarding cruelty it’s worse than bloodlust 100% of the time
edit: not sure why forum underlines automatically sentences xd can’t help it

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Nordom.3485

Nordom.3485

I’m not sure how you reached the conclusion that ferocity is better than power but it doesn’t seem like that’s the case to me
let’s assume that a skill has 1.0 coefficient, you have 100% crit chance,2.5k power and 220% crit damage
bloodlust=250 power → skill gonna hit 2.2×1.0×2750=6050
cruelty=
250 ferocity (~237% total crit damage) → skill gonna hit 2.37×1.0×2500=5925
and that’s the best case scenario with 100% crit chance

Sigil of Force vs Bloodlust

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Nordom.3485

Nordom.3485

The problem with sigil of bloodlust is that it’s a pain to stack and you can lose your stacks easily(going into water, dying, switching maps) and if a fight occurs that you don’t have sigil stacked, then you have a handicap; also if a gvg occurs it’s considered bm to fight with stacked sigil.
That’s why it’s not that popular in wvw anymore(but it’s still very good for that game mode); in pve it’s not that good since you might wanna swap/unequip weapons for different encounters or you don’t want to rely on stacking the sigil to be efficient (also if you happen to go down in a fight you lose all the stacks which forces you to restack the weapon)

Sigils of fire and air stack, can be triggered at same time and are usually used in bursty builds that you often see in pvp or wvw (thieves and shatter mesmers for instance used to run this setup). They both have a damage coefficient, which means the damage they will do depends on your power, weapon strength and enemy’s armor, but generally sigil of air hits harder a single target and sigil of fire hits for less but aoe; that means fire sigil is decent only when you fight many enemies at once(that means better in wvw but not that good in pve)
with 2.5k power vs heavy armor target (3k armor)
air:~632 every 3 sec-> 210 dps on single target
fire:~325 damage every 5 sec-> 64dps on single target or 325 dps on 5(max) targets
hope that helps and hope my math is right :p

Gift of Battle Feedback [merged]

Imo that was a needed change, it was that easy to get gift of battle that i purchased it without knowing what it does a couple of times just to realise i don’t need it and throw it away. It was very cheap to begin with and extremely accessible, plus you didn’t really have to work for it; there’s nothing legendary about that.

There is nothing legendary about most aspects of legendary crafting so that isn’t a particularly good argument.

Then there you go, now you have 1 more reason to think it’s about making legendaries. Also I doubt you can argue against that it was the only “gift” you could get practically for free

Do precision and ferocity affect conditions?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nordom.3485

Nordom.3485

Assuming you’re talking about pve builds
Thing is that the vast majority of the skills do both raw damage and have a condition application, for instance on engi you spam grenades a lot and grenades have a decent power coefficient; furthermore you have at least a couple of traits that proc on crit so if you want overall max dps, rampager would be a lot better than carrion.
I think for engi it would be something like viper>sinister>rampager>rabid>>carrion>dire
That’s my personal experience anyways
Edit: sry i misread, thought you were talking about engi xd still for necro i think rabid is a better dps option than rampager and carrion(cause of trait “target the weak”)

Class specific weapons in core tyria

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nordom.3485

Nordom.3485

I would never complain about more weapons but I don’t think content should be added with the intention of sating F2P accounts.
If something gets added for other reasons and is not locked out to them (as with some of the HoT stuff) that’s one thing but if it is something specifically catering to them that’s another entirely

Hm no, what i meant is not to sate f2p accounts, rather to extend a HoT feature to the rest of the gw2; the fact you were rewarded for playing and exploring HoT and doing map events and chasing after the weapon of your class, that’s something that would make more sense to me to have when you level a character, learn everything there is to it, then start making your class weapon as the ultimate goal; that kind of way. It would also serve as a reward of playing in core tyria, not hit 80, then jump to HoT. If it remains accessible to f2p or not, it’s not my decision anyways to make.

Class specific weapons in core tyria

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nordom.3485

@redenaz yeah the dungeon part had me sceptical too, but even if they don’t support it, no one can deny that it’s there and it’s a very big part of gw2. So, why not use the tools at your disposal..I couldn’t come up with something else challenging enough for that purpose in core tyria, and dungeons fit that purpose xd

@deedrick well I see your point about f2p players and I don’t agree with it completely; f2p is there and if you claim that something’s f2p you should treat it as one, not limit every game aspect to the point that someone’s forced to buy the game to experience it; but what’s f2p and what’s not, is a completely different topic that i want to avoid altogether xD let’s just agree to disagree on this one
regarding accessibility of ascended weapons, I would disagree with you, ascended is extremely easy to come by through fractals and raids (as well as elite spec weapons) without crafting anything at all. I don’t suggest that it should be given for free, that’s for sure, but the amount of effort I put on getting the elite spec weapon seemed reasonable enough(as a point of reference)

Class specific weapons in core tyria

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nordom.3485

Basically I was thinking that the idea of giving access to elite spec ascended weapons with thematic skins was a good one, even if it’s hidden behind a -not so unreasonable- grind wall.
So I was wondering how good an idea would be to create the ability for players to get ascended weapons for their class in core tyria in the same manner (maybe not bound to masteries this time? give something for the f2p players/previous gw2 owners to work for :p).
Since there are no map currencies a good option would be to use dungeon tokens for that purpose, thus populating the dungeon part of the game.
It might be a dumb or trivial idea and probably not that thoroughly thought out, but i guess I should throw it out there and see if it sticks xd

That's not difficulty

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Nordom.3485

Nordom.3485

well, regarding the timers i believe too that it’s meh, but it’s nothing forbidden and they didn’t put it like: timer ends, you’re dead so most times we die from other factors (vale guard green circle, gorseval you run out of updrafts etc)
Second the meta. Meta is the easiest way to run it, not the only one. When a build falls out of the meta, it does not mean that it becomes obsolete or it doesn’t work at all; Also you can change stats on ascended for 5-10g each, not 1000 let alone that you don’t need ascended armor
Lastly, i do believe the “tank+heals” was a good idea. It’s only needed for vg and a bit for gorseval at the moment, as far as i know, but it still gives people incentive to find that “perfect build” that fits right into the role of tanking or healing and gives meaning to traits that no one cared before
