If overheating is ruled out, I’d run a memory test (memtest86). Most similar issues I’ve had in the past were because of malfunctioning memory (either unbalanced overclocking or just faulty dimms). The slight discoloration on the cpu is most likely normal and caused by the thermal paste, that’s my guess at least..

I thought the 90% damage reduction only applied to AoEs.
.
.
As for the map meta, most of my concerns come from smaller events that branch from it. For example, in the first jungle map, my problems mostly come from trying to defend Pact camps from being taken over by mordrem. I can take the camps on my necro easily on the offensive, but I struggle on the defensive. Nobody is ever around when trying to defend the camps, because this map is almost always empty. Not kidding, I’m often getting multiple instance migration prompts in the course of one hour. It’s not as bad in the auric basin due to the meta event there and how lucrative the rewards are, but it’s real bad in the earlier map.

The same issue extends to hero point bosses there. I’ve never seen anyone around to fight the Mark 1 Golem or the Champion Coztic Bladedancer and they’re both a nightmare to combat alone. I can’t do it at all on my warrior. I know they’re designed to be fought as a group, hence the “[Group Event]” tag on them, but hardly anyone goes there.
.

.
3. Given that I’m still new to the game, I have no real understanding on quick ways to make money, so getting all of this is going to be a long-term goal that is a high priority to achieve.

4. I am willing to make changes to this build, but as a massive summoner nut, I want to maintain a heavy minion build as best as I can. If I have to sacrifice a minion to better optimize my kit, I’ll have to deal with it.

I could be wrong about the AI, or it doesn’t apply to turrets, I’ll have to check, but I could swear that was the case..

About the meta, the “map is closing” sometimes doesn’t mean it’s empty, it’s usually after the meta cycle is completed and rarely when there’s too few people. Anyways, changing maps is usually a good idea even more so using the lfg tool. Also advertising the hero point you’re going for in map chat is also a great idea, there’s usually a couple of people that are gonna join you and in it’ll make it a lot easier to kill..

..3. it seems you already know about the tarir multimap :p that’s a lucrative endeavor..

4. I would strongly recommend checking out the skills blood is power and epidemic.
Blood is power →deathly swarm is a very good combo with long lasting bleeds, even more so since you have minions drawing condis off you. Also when facing multiple opponents epidemic is the most broken skill necros have access to, so it’s strongly recommended you make use of it. Lastly I would personally change the elite for summon flesh golem; it’s still a minion but has a longer and stronger lasting impact than lich form.

Need Advice for a Solo-Friendly Build

Nordom.3485

reading your post left me a bit confused..I’m still unsure what you’re looking for exactly, but i’ll give it a try.
First thing first, the nerfs hardly affect solo content, they usually address issues found in pvp and endgame pve and they tend to fix just that. Turret engi was a thing in pvp I believe quite a while ago, not organized pve; so you should still be able to spam turrets when running solo, even more so since they made non-aggroed friendly AI receive 90% less damage (or something among those lines)

Which events are you talking about? The meta events can’t be soloed, so finding an organized map using LFG tool is priority

Raid builds differ vastly from open world builds, because they rely on group synergy rather than solo utility, so finding a build that covers both is kind of a long shot. As you figured out yourself necro is a good way to do it, but if you’re having trouble with necro I’m sad to inform you that’s pmuch as easy as it gets. Unless you’re running a bad build in which case you might wanna share it so alternatives can be suggested

General Weapon-Type DPS

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Nordom.3485

Nordom.3485

I’m not exactly sure what your question is, but generally, regarding dps what matters is: the weapon skill(its coefficient), the skill’s cooldown and the overall stats you have equipped. Basically you have your total stat pool towards which everything you wear contributes and from that stat pool each skill uses the relevant stats to do damage.

Changing weapon setup (from ranged to melee or from 2h to 2×1h) changes the way you play and your skills, but assuming said weapons are of the same rarity and stat combo, there is no difference at all in their stat contribution.

But regardless of all this though, it wouldn’t be bad to have an adjustment to the halloween items. Feels a bit backwards having to swap ascended gear to exotic for an aura. Especially due to how rare the infusions are.

Yeah, to that I can agree on xd Yours is one of the countless suggestions that could improve the game, that also have been said many times before, it’s just that there wasn’t any focus on them/didn’t seem important enough to allocate effort on, I guess.

an ascended berserker backpack has 63 power,40 precision,40 ferocity, an exotic berserker backpack with celestial upgrade has 42 power, 33 precision, 33 ferocity so it’s -20 power,-7 precision,-7 ferocity. I think the overall dps loss could be a whopping 1%

Ok great, think ill stick to levelling the Mesmer if that’s the case and see how it goes. Are they needed for the 5 man?

Assuming you mean fractals and dungeons(keep in mind that dungeons are a bit deserted), they are good for either mode but not needed(there isn’t really a great restriction on either of those modes as long as you know your class and the content)

Nordom.3485

Hm, first of all, the nerfs to chrono, rev and necro mainly hit the raiders, so unless you’re planning to go for that game mode, there’s no need to worry. That said, rest assured that chrono is still gonna be a must for raid groups; it’s the only reliable way of sharing quickness in the game in such large amounts and there’s also a chance it becomes more needed than before if meta runs 2 chronos. Furthermore, chrono is average in open solo play but really sucks to level . About necro, I speculate it will still have its uses on specific raid encounters (like mat, xera, sloth) like before, so it’s not useless either.
About elementalist, it’s still powerful and it shouldn’t be too hard to get used to the class again.Just get a staff, stay at fire and spam skills :p
If I were you I’d use ele to do my lvl80+ activities like dungeons, HoT maps ,raids while working on whichever if the other classes you feel like playing/leveling; there’s no need to restrict yourself.
Also, no there’s no different version of the original legendaries, there’s just a revamped way of getting the precursor by crafting/questing instead of buying from tp/mystic forge gambling, but I’m not sure which is better, for that either someone else can help you, or you’ll need some research done.

A very reasonable request.

Why anyone should object; other than the fact that certain posters believe everything Anet does is beyond criticism, is beyond me.

What anet does is criticized multiple times a day in these very forums, what you’re suggesting is that every criticism is beyond discussion which is practically against the very concept of a forum

I believe that the concept of guilds was to band together towards a common goal and beating missions that would be otherwise impossible; and as time passes your guild grows and you can do more and more, therefore progressing and leveling up your guild.
Allowing 2-3 people to clear this content would make guild missions lose their meaning since everyone could just make his own guild and solo them whenever he pleases. It’s like asking raid content to be cleared by 1 person and still yield the same rewards, it’s counterintuitive.

Nordom.3485

The general rule is you need at least one person able to open the instance you desire, then when he opens, the rest of the party members that are on the same map as the instance entrance will get a popup allowing them to join. That means that you need to be at least on the same map to enter or (if you’re opening) walk up to the entrance. It’s relatively easy to reach most of the dungeon maps, Twilight arbor, Caudecus Manor and Ascalonian Catacombs are all located on starting maps.
Keep in mind that sometimes you might miss the popup window; as long as you’re on the correct map, a simple relog should fix that or waypointing far enough on the same map to get a loading screen.
Hope that helps
Edit: LFG is not queue btw, it’s just a “party-maker”. It doesn’t really have much interaction with the popup prompts to go in a dungeon

I used to play engineer quite a lot, and one thing I have to say is that most of your mitigation comes from blinding the enemies. As far as utilities go, I would have grenade and bomb kit pmuch always

Rotating mainly smoke bomb (bomb kit #4) and flash shell (mortar kit #4) on the enemies (remember that enemies from champ and above are immune to blinds), should leave you pretty much intact and the enemies permablind; add on that the block from hammer #4 and the blinds from grenade/flamethrower (skill#3/skill#5 respectively) and you should have no issues with staying alive.
Special mention to your cc skills which are mainly glue bomb (#5 bombs), endothermic shell (#3 mortar) and air blast (flamethrower #3)

Regarding direct damage engi, it’s viable.I believe the general consensus is that grenades is probably the best engi dps utility, followed closely by bombs. So generally spamming grenade #2,#4,#5 and bomb #1 (or grenades #1 if you want to stay ranged) along with grenade barrage and big ol’ bomb should be more than enough dps.

Anyways, that’s my opinion, hope it helps

Nordom.3485

If I had to choose for general “running around” pve(for organized pve, soldier’s is a no-go), I’d choose rev I guess, mainly because you get a lot of innate precision from traits and permafury. Although, you will be forced to completely discard the soldier’s gearset sooner or later for more offensive options, so I wouldn’t factor pve heavily in my decision, if I were you.

Guardian soldier frontline has had a solid spot in wvw for a very long time and has been proven irreplacable. While gear setups may vary, soldiers still works in wvw for either class, but I lean a bit more on the guardian side, firstly because guardians benefit more from the vitality stat on soldier’s (other frontline classes like warriors and revs, usually spec a bit more offensively since they don’t need vitality that badly) and secondly because guardians can provide more and are generally a lot more sought-after.

tl;dr
Soldier’s is generally bad for pve purposes, for either class. Consequently, If i were to factor only wvw as criteria, I would personally choose guardian.

Raids and build snobbery

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nordom.3485

Nordom.3485

The purpose of “meta” is so that the raid group works together decently without having to reorganize and theorycraft every time a person joins. Also, rolling with a custom build requires you having a clear picture of the role you’re fulfilling and if you can do that adequately, which I’m not sure if you can do with no raid experience.
On the upside you can always make your own squad and raid with like-minded players.

Posted by: Nordom.3485

Nordom.3485

As far as ascended rings are concerned you can’t do much; the options are:
vendor it for 5s, keep it in case you might need it in the future, or salvage it if you have spare asc salvage kits. Amulets and accessories follow the same rules, but are a bit harder to come by, so keeping them is encouraged
Keep in mind that ascended weapons/armor are an exception and you can change their stats, making the potential random drop invaluable

for pve generally most of the power builds aim for 100% crit chance. Besides that, first thing that comes to mind is thief; has the most crit related traits in game, hands down
You can mess around with axe warrior, that also has big crits
other than that, you have to explain a bit better what you are looking for xD

Vanilla stat armor for Condition builds

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nordom.3485

Nordom.3485

for pve I’d personally go with something like this:
necro http://bit.ly/2cSW5VI
ranger http://bit.ly/2cJO690
engi http://bit.ly/2ciku7i
ele http://bit.ly/2cB3wPG
all those are a bit hastily put together with not that much testing, just there to give you some ideas/guidance;
generally I believe rabid offers the best option for condi damage, with the exception of engi that has so many traits based off crit (firearms traitline) that justify rampager
I can’t come up with a good vanilla warrior build and I’m not sure how viable it could be
for wvw as it’s been stated, dire is a good option and imo is broken xD provides all the tankiness you can have with all the dps you can have for condi
hope this helps

Questions to raiders of GW2 and Anet

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Nordom.3485

Nordom.3485

Not really much point to help out once someone is capped and cleared 9/9. I actually lose money helping someone after I get my clear due to consumable costs. That’s why a lot of people are trying to push for repeated rewards because as of now there is zero point in helping.

Repeated rewards aren’t pushed to encourage helping, it’s to encourage replayability of raids during the week. The only point in helping is the fact that you’re helping. Adding repeated rewards will change nothing if you don’t manage to kill the boss, or manage to kill 1 boss after 2-3h. Imo it will have the opposite effect, encouraging people to kill each boss in 6 min for maximum profit/day or /kill discarding anything inferior, including people that struggle.

Condition Dmg vs duration

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Nordom.3485

Nordom.3485

giver’s are a waste of gold for condi setup. Usually you can reach the 100% cap without sacrificing so many stats, through correct traits, runes and sigils.
for instance for +condition damage main runes check
rune of the nightmare(+15% on all condi duration),
rune of the krait(+45% bleed duration),
rune of balthazar(+45%burn duration)
rune of the afflicted (+30% bleed duration,+15% poison duration)
rune of the thorns(+45% poison duration)
rune of torment (+45% torment duration)
rune of perplexity(+30% confusion duration)
for sigils,
sigil of malice(+10% on all condis duration), sigil of agony (+20% bleed duration),
sigil of smoldering (+20% burn duration), sigil of venom (+20% poison duration)

top tier condi food gives a total of +30% condi duration so all of the above with the addition of traits is usually more than enough to cap out on condi duration
The choices depends of course on the class you want to run and what your main source of damage is going to be.

I’m a condi ranger fan as well xD or rather, was.. While I am no expert, here’s my opinion:
The build is not bad at all for solo play; overall I think it’s as good as you can get to solo condi ranger
As onevstheworld stated, http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Ranger_-_A/T_Condition is a bit better in terms of group support and was very close to what I found that worked out best for organized content. I used to run that build in fractals with no issues and even killed the first raid boss a couple of times Also, I found that lynx pet had a lot better dps than the other pets, so I’d suggest you give that a try as well.

Personally I’d say avoiding organized content is gonna make you miss the best part of gw2. If you don’t like pugging, finding a guild or simply like-minded players should help. Dungeons and fractals are fun, they push you to become better and should shake up your routine quite a bit. Training in raids should provide a change of scenery too :p

Since you mentioned wvw, I’d suggest trying to follow a commander at some point preferrably on a tanky class/build till you learn the ropes. A good time to do that is reset night, when borderlands usually get a spike in population. And yes solo isn’t easy in wvw. There are 2 types of play in wvw, roaming solo and raiding; roaming relies on mobility, high dps and pvp skillz, while raiding relies on group synergy, survivability and following the commander. Both use different builds and different tactics and if you go unprepared to either, you can easily get rekt xD
Sorry if I ranted too long, hope it helps

Imo for ascended sinister or (even better) viper, bloodstone fen is the way to go for backpiece/rings/amulet. Aiming to complete the bsf map dailies (and maybe mine some bloodstone nodes or do some boss) should not take too much of your time and should give you an ascended every week or less, depending on the time you invest.

For accessories the options are limited atm.All kind of accessories are available through raids (viper and sinister included). Besides that, sinister is only available via doing the LS2 achievements which takes a lot of time to get and probably money too if you don’t have ls2 unlocked. The alternative is aiming for suboptimal stats like rampager/rabid from commendation vendor.
There is also the hope of asc accessories with the new stats being added with the new map in 2 weeks or so, which is not entirely impossible

as a sidenote, the lvl78 exotic backpacks from crafting disciplines come with 1 infusion slot, that could help you with managing your AR till you get an ascended infused backpiece

When you say “get off your bum and find me” newbies that need the gold won’t know the map well enough to find you at all and exp people that may find you fast probably won’t need the gold in the first place or just end up being driven by greed.

Sigils Question

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Nordom.3485

Nordom.3485

You don’t have to pvp to enter pvp lobby, it’s basically a pve area with pvp rules(under pvp>enter pvp lobby), where you can equip most of the sigils/runes that are in game and check them out without buying completely new gear.
As a sidenote, most of the sigils will work together except equiping 2 stacking sigils at the same weapon set or 2 identical sigils;
equiping 2 sigils of air at the same time for instance should increase the proc chance a bit but will share the same cd so will only proc once then both go on cd

Well I have not spent any real money at all at gem store, I have geared around 12 characters in full ascended with fractals and raids alone and wasting my gold on bl keys, bank slots and other bl items and i’ve been playing for 1 year more or less(2 years with a couple of 6month breaks).
Imo it’s not p2w; yes if you spend money on gems→gold it will become easier, but I believe that even if you don’t, the game is not gonna get punishing or frustrating/unplayable. Were there times that I wished I had more gold? yeah always, and everyone wants more gold. There are people with hundreds of thousands of gold that keep trying to get more (you know who you are :p)
It’s a personal preference if you choose to play the game as it was intended to get the gold (spend time) or take the shortcut and spend money. Both are fine in my eyes.

The question is how much are you willing to pay in time/money for ingame
items and how much those items are priced. If it took you 5 months of constant grinding to get a single piece of ascended, then it would be kittened, same if anet offered you 1 gold per 10 $ you spend. In my opinion both those aspects are balanced at the moment.
Getting ascended is easy with fractals/raids/elite spec collections/bloodstone fen etc, ascended by itself is not an absolute must for most of the game modes (only required for fractals and maybe raids), exotic is extremely easy to get and well, if you chose to go for legendary, then getting the most expensive item in game (which btw is mostly cosmetic) should have a high price by default.
On the other hand the exchange rate is around 5$ per 100g -unless I’m mistaken- which translates in around 2h-3h of grinding? maybe someone more experienced in min-max grinding can shed his light on that. In any case it doesn’t seem too bad for me.
That’s my 2c :p

The way to get into raids is trying to find a “training run” instead of jumping into exp groups. Also, if you decide to be solo healer I think you should run magi’s/zealot’s with staff (http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Druid_-_Raid_Healer); zerker healer builds (especially the one you linked) are used when you have 2 druids in the squad as far as I’m aware.
I will agree that this thread was more about other people venting on your post (the same things repeated again and again) than anything else, although the original post showed anger because of ignorance mainly.

I also believe that I was getting spirit shards even when having the new Ancient magics mastery locked off.

Are you sure that wasn’t from core tyria? They are per region.

Ah seems you’re right, I was not aware of that; I’ll retract my statement xD

Anymore raids coming?

Raid team is still around and working…..
Legendary team isn’t.

Draw your own conclusion.

Don’t get cute. It’s not working for you.

We’ve slowly started talks about what the raid after Forsaken Thicket is and where it will take place, but that’s the extent.

Yes, I know. Facts are a funny thing.

You were sayin’ chief ?

Link’s more recent, states the team is together and working on the next raid.
Checkmate.

You’re both saying the same thing… we’ll have next raid but no one knows when and team is working on it. Anything besides that, is speculation; My guess is that it will take at least ~5+ months to start getting some updates on that matter, so not much purpose in worrying about it :p
