I feel that Guild Wars 2 has some fundamental flaws

I read the original post(s) and got a chuckle out of it. Basically the OP is saying everything they did with GW2 is wrong. What exactly are you expecting them to do? Spend next five years redesigning the game from scratch?

You are basically asking a new MMO. That being said. I do enjoy GW2 as it is. It has its flaws but a lot of things OP listed are good things in my books. Still, you can’t please everyone and I bet GW2 attracted a lot more folks initially than GW ever did. It will have its dedicated fans. I think people need to accept that no game is ever going to appeal for everyone.

Edit: Also very important thing to note is that Guild Wars 2 is not Guild Wars. They are different games.

Easiest Overall Profession

I’d say it depends on your playstyle. I favor ranged professions because they are rather hard to kill in PvE if you keep the range. However if you are the type of player that can’t move and attack at same time then I’d pick a warrior.

Especially since even as a warrior you can switch to a ranged weapon and there are even situations where it is necessary.

Lost Shores Feedback Thread

Northlander.4619

Here are my (mostly negative) thoughts about the lost shore and a bit of (hopefully constructive feedback:

Rushed content

Please take your time in developing the content so it doesn’t bug out. You don’t really need to run events like this every month if they are buggy. Take your time. People will come back for them even if they have left.

Communication

ArenaNet is probably the worst company I’ve yet to see when it comes to communication. No real info about what to expect from different phases. No info about problems either. No mails, no server messages, no nothing. You had to leave the game to actually receive any info and even then it was stingy.

  • Suggestion1: Please list what we are to expect from each phase. You don’t need to go into details. Just mention things like “join us in a phase 3 for a chance to get some epic loot” and “join us in a phase 1 for a one time cinematic invasion”.
  • Suggestion2: When problems pop up don’t just leave people hanging. Send an ingame email /update the event description explaining that there are problems and you are working on a fix. Give estimates on timeframe and update them as necessary.
  • Sugestion3: Make it more clear where an event starts and when it ends. Phase two for example was very confusing. Phase one wasn’t much better.

One time events with big rewards are bad

People have stressed this a lot. Don’t put the big rewards behind a single one time event. Especially when it’s guaranteed that a lot of people will miss them. At least don’t put all good rewards behind it.

  • Suggestion1: Reward a single token for participating any of the event phases which people can turn in for an exotic/unique/interesting reward. It shouldn’t be too difficult to make a reward chest similar to the ancient karka which unlocks with a token. This rewards even those who have very little time and can join just one of the “one time only” events.
  • Suggestion2: Spread out the good/unique stuff on multiple tasks. Give a token for participating any one of the event phases which can be turned into random exotic. Reward an unique item from the scavenger hunt (i.e. the “karka ring”). Allow turning smaller collectible tokens you gather into useful stuff like the box etc etc.

Culling problems

Culling made the big fights hard. It’s not fun to die from enemies you can’t see. You run forward to a spot that looks empty and suddenly you find yourself dead. A moment after a champion karka phases in – it had been there all the time but your client just didn’t show it. This and lag made the event frustrating.

  • Suggestion1: Please consider splitting the “main event” into 3-4 simultaneous events so people will spread out more. There could have been multiple events simultaneously starting on different parts of LA / Cove (depending on phase) leading to a single “final battle”.

The good

Skipping stones is very fun! The new dungeon is very fun (except swamp)! More stuff like this and I’m happy. Also please add dolphin racing minigame / “jumping puzzle” into the game!

Thanks for reading.

Northlander.4619

well I disagree. These jumping puzzles do nothing for me, and the time the devs spend doing them could have been spent doing something else.

jumping puzzles, as you said, are not necessary. So it only bothers me to the extent that resources were diverted to develop something that I don’t like. now we can argue about how many people do them or don’t of course… and nobody can win this argument.

In the meantime, I’d like to know when the Wvw (one of the unique features of this game) will get some attention… incentivisation, gear progression, new maps, new objectvies etc…

See this is the difference between you and me. I don’t care about WvW but I consider stuff like jumping puzzles, pipe organs and stuff like that as integral part of the PvE experience. They appeal to my explorer playstyle.

I’d be more happy if they moved resources from PvP and WvW to to developing PvE content like this which, as far as I have experienced, is also unique to this game. Without stuff like jumping puzzles I’d have lost the interest a long time ago. They literally keep me playing and I regularly jump through the ones I have already done just for the fun of it.

Also kudos to whoever created Fractals. I haven’t been through all of them yet but so far they are tons of more fun than regular dungeons (except the swamp but that’s just me).

That being said. Different teams and all that… maybe WvW would be more interesting if it had more elements like the ones appearing in Fractals and jumping puzzles.

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Northlander.4619

I don’t mind Ascended gear to be honest. It looks to me like the stat boost is rather minor when comparing the stats to regular exotic gear. Actually I’m more annoyed that apparently I can’t slot sigils into them and for example my ranger is built to utilize Sigil of Fire.

Also both of my level 80 characters run mostly on masterwork (green) gear and I’m able to do even harder content like dungeons (i.e. Arah) just fine. I don’t really see the ascended gear changing that.

I’m more interested in their cool looks so I’m not going to start raging if something offers 10 points more in individual stats than exotic gear does currently.

I have nothing against Largos being a playable race but they don’t really interest me that much. I mean they are pretty much yet another human race. As for Quaggans. I don’t particularly like them as they are mostly annoying (except I have to admit the Quaggan ghost and pirate in LA were adorable).

I’m not that interested in Tengu either. Give me Naga as playable race!

Staff autoattack for the fact it doesn’t track the target really should be faster, why did the mesmer get an increased projectile speed to his scepter attack when it tracks the target? Same with the staff autoattack, it’s slow but it tracks the target – thus reasonable. Our staff is both slow AND doesn’t track.

Staff autoattack does not track but it pierces. It’s essentially a line AoE. I find it more useful to have piercing attack that goes in a line when using staff in large WvW battles or when doing events. It’s bad only in one on one fights or when facing few mobile targets. Besides it seems to track (or maybe it’s just animation). It’s just slow.

Mesmer skill hits a single target. It’s reasonable that it tracks. Even Mesmer staff attack merely bounces. Again reasonable that it tracks.

I like the game even though it certainly does not match the marketing. My greatest dissapointments are personal story (and instance) and bland dungeons.

However I find dynamic events and the heart system fun. There’s a bit lack in variety and after being through all of them with one character and most of them with other they lose luster, but they are certainly more fun than quests in other games.

The most interesting part for me have been jumping puzzles and exploration “surprises” like the pipe organs. I’d love to have more stuff like that littered around the maps so I have reason to revisit them even after full exploration. Those are the most enjoyable part of the world. Not to mention there’s surprising amount of variety in there. They are much more interesting than the bland dungeons!

I’ve also checked one of the new minidungeons and I love the dark room theme. I wish there were larger dungeons with similar theme – and that the minidungeon was not bugged. Heck combine a jumping puzzle, dark room and large scale dungeon with interesting boss fights and I’m hooked!

Lately I’ve been focusing on getting my Arah gear in order as well as getting the 100% map completion and those are actually a bit frustrating. I’m just missing two PoIs and a vista but can’t get those because they are in the Eternal battlegrounds and in enemy controlled area. Most Arah PuG runs also fail so after multiple 4-6 hours attempts that fail at lupus it sort of drains the fun and becomes a chore. It would help if the dungeon itself wasn’t so boring.

Huh. I didn’t find him particularly interesting. I think it was mostly because of the “gruff veteran who initially resents the forced pairing with a newbie protagonist but then takes a bullet for him/her” stereotype. He is a bit bland but nowhere near as bland as Trahernia is.

I found Tybalt to be the most fun of the “guides”. I’m not too familiar with Sieran as I’ve yet to be very far in Priory arc but her enthusiasm seems rather refreshing as well. Maybe it falls flat later on but so far I prefer her over Forgal as well.

I guess you can sum the original post as “I’m being annoyed by other types of gamers and wish to make a statement that my playstyle is the only one worth of consideration by belittling other types of gamers”.

FYI: Declaring your playstyle as a cosmic truth won’t really earn you any love. Neither it will make someone suddenly “see the light” as far as roleplaying is concerned.

MMOs are mainstream games. Majority of the folks have zero interest in RP or RP elements. RP has always been a niche group activity.

When I was introduced to multiplayer games (MUDs back then) it was pure nerd activity. Even then a lot of people really didn’t get the whole RP aspect or the idea that staring into a wall of text might be fun. I wager most don’t get it nowadays either.

Increasing population of the games didn’t make RP any less niche activity. Also a lot of present day gamers have grown up with CRPGs and have never touched a PnP game, so they have never learned to RP either. MMOs are not PnP games where you have full freedom of expression.

This is the impression I get after following the developer – player interaction: developers have different priorities than the players. They see the game engine as a whole while players merely see the gameplay.

Players don’t care about minor things like increased dye drop rates or other potential minor exploits since a) they work to our benefit b) they are very minor things to us on a personal level.

It seems to me developers care more about potential exploits no matter how small than the content fixes because personal story is just one piece of the game and affects only those doing personal stories – and in this particular instance only some of them. It doesn’t affect the entire game. They don’t really see it from our point of view. It’s the “What is a few delayed days doods. Just go do something else! Don’t you have like life?” attitude.

TLDR: I think developers have different priorities. Removing something that benefits us is not going to earn any love while not fixing a thing that affects us on a personal level will earn a lot hate.

What I don’t like most about the situation is the snippy “there’s already a thread about this subject dood!!! Go read it!” attitude. This thread is not stickied or anything. It’s relatively easy to miss. If they expect the courtesy of waiting for a fix I expect them a courtesy of tolerating duplicates and joining together threads. That’s what moderators are for. Right? Not for just banning people…

It’s interesting they are planning the “one time only” event on the day that is facing Monday. I don’t know about you folks but mondays are workdays for me me and that’s 10 PM EET on Sunday for me. That’s when I usually go to sleep because I’ve to wake up dang early.

I don’t mind the 10 PM or even later if it’s on friday or saturday because I don’t work during weekends. Now I’m sure there are plenty of folks who work all weekend but I’d say majority of the players still work/go to school during weekdays.

Then again if it’s similar to Mad King’s appearance I don’t mind that much. I mean it was cool and all but not worth skipping work.

Why are so many "elite" players jerks?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Northlander.4619

Northlander.4619

I’ve lately run with a lot of groups that have had one or two “elite” players. Most are self proclaimed masters that end up instantly rage quiting if a team of new players wipes even once in a dungeon. Bonus points if they put the team together and didn’t bother to explain anyone anything or even asking if people joining are new.

I also see this a lot in folks who skip mobs. When others fail to follow them and die during the run there is a lot berating and kittening on the party chat. Assuming they don’t quit after a few attempts.

I mean surely these people realize that if someone is first time in the dungeon and doesn’t know the path it’s very bad idea to start running. Especially if you don’t explain anything.

This happens a lot in Arah. Explaining the encounters to new people doesn’t take that long. Also if we are planning to skip mobs it’s always important to point out which mobs should be evaded and who is to be followed. I’m pretty sure it took a while for those “elite” players to learn the paths and strategy as well, so little patience would not hurt. Right?

On a related note: we had a very good but very smug and ill tempered guardian on our latest run. We wiped to Lupicus only once and he started kittening about people’s dodging skills. We did the dungeon run successfully in the end largely thanks to his running and dodging skills. So yes. He was skilled but had a really bad attitude.

Dungeons way overpowered.

Generally speaking I run following setup with my Ele for dungeons:

Staff (I primarily run daggers outside of dungeon)
Arcane Wave — Swapped to Arcane Shield in really hard spots
Armor of Earth
Mist Form

I also use the trait that gives me Arcane Shield when at 25% health. My elementalist has 15k hp and 2k armor with focus on power/vit/cdam,

Now I’m not super skilled player but that seems to keep me alive in most dungeons and encounters. Including Arah (except in prolonged fights against Lupicus). I find it more important have skills like mist form and arcane shield combined with mobility than high hp or armor. I simply couldn’t imagine running without one.

Also water field combined with arcane wave is a nice boost to health. I use that combo often. It also has the added benefit of healing allies.

Do you have any recommendations as to which professions to bring?

I’ve tried Arah roughly 10 times of which 3 were succesful. This includes some really long sessions against Lupicus like the 5 hour one we did today (and that’s just Lupicus) which all ended up into failures.

Phase1 is easy but it’s usually in phase2 where people die. For some reason my elementalist often seems to get the lock in phase2 which I’ve nothing against since I’ve tooled my entire utility skillset for surviving that phase. However I still run out of dodges and utilities (mist form, arcane shield, armor of earth) in a prolonged fight.

If Lupicus actually manages to TP to me and I miss a dodge then it’s nearly instant down (I’ve around 15k hp). However this is a moot point since most of the time I’m either alone or there’s one or two other people still stuggling around when Lupi finally kicks me down for good. Shortly after it’s everyone down.

Now I’m curious which profession combinations are the best choices for Lupi? Are there any professions that could increase survivability for whole party? I mean the “projectile storm” and especially the aimed high damage projectile seem to be banes of most teams. Not as much him teleporting around. I’d rather level up a profession that would increase chances for everyone if it guaranteed more succesful runs!

Thief Ownage

in WvW

Northlander.4619

That is amusing Ruien. I have zero problem with any other profession. They seem to function just fine in WvW without being overpowered. Even mesmers who also happen to share a lot mechanics with thieves. Namely ability to mislead and vanish. The thing is: mesmers don’t one shot other players and their ability to escape is much more limited.

The only profession I’ve a problem with is the thief. Judging from all the forum posts I’m not alone. Maybe people should man up and admit there is a problem with the thief.

Anyhow this is a moot point considering ArenaNet is planning to balance the thief.

Thief Ownage

in WvW

Posted by: Northlander.4619

Northlander.4619

I honestly think there is a problem with thief but I’m probably going to be labeled “whiner” etc because I do not run a thief. I play a staff necromancer in WvW which is great for supporting allies.

I’ve 24k hp and 2200 armor so I may not be the toughest necromancer around. However I still feel something is wrong when following happens:

I get scorpion wired off the wall and a single thief does 22k hp damage the moment I’m off the wall putting me instantly into downed state when I hit the ground. Now I’m fine with being pulled down and I’m fine with thief beating me in prolonged fight. I knew I was dead the moment I was pulled in middle of the horde of enemies. What I’m not fine with is a single player being able to instantly do 22k hp damage. I’m not saying they did this with a single skill. I’m saying that it literally took them less time to shred 22k hp than it took me to realize I was pulled down.

Thieves can also do pretty much everything. I drop enemy into downed state and a thief pops in dropping shadow refuge. An excellent gameplay mechanic and something I have nothing against.

However the moment after that thief pops out of shadow refuge, goes after ally, drops them in seconds, and then starts spinning around throwing daggers aka dagger storm. Now dagger storm itself is fine. What I’ve a problem with is that I’m not sure which trait/skill thiefs combine it with but it cannot be interrupted. I lay down a fear patch which by all logic should interrupt the spinning but nothing happens. After dagger storm ends they pop stealth and/or shadow step away.

I guess people start seeing my point: thieves have excellent utility, and the way how they can stealth and shadow step and have high mobility makes them basically unkillable unless multiple foes focus on them and even then it’s nearly impossible to catch a good thief, and on top of that they have massive damage. That is a problem.

Personal flop... err story

in Personal Story

Posted by: Northlander.4619

Northlander.4619

I’ve to apologize in advance but I’m going to trash personal story because it is the greatest dissapointment in otherwise great game. Below are my thoughts about it.

Note: I understand some of these are because of technical limitations. However at the same time I feel a lot of this could have been fixed with better use of cinematic elements.

From zero to hero in less than a week

This could have been a story about your character working through ranks to achieve a leading position in the pact. A story that could have spanned multiple elder dragons.

The first story should have been all about you leading a small squad of elite commandos. It could have been a story about your “warband” making a name for themselves and joining others to battle Zhaitan.

Instead of that now everyone hails you as the savior of the world from the start and suddenly you are the “commander” (haha?) of the pact.

I’m a commander without troops?

Everyone keeps touting about how we all must do our part. Art shows armies. Yet most battles are about small skirmishes and not about war. Why the hell I’m the commander of entire pact if I don’t actually have an army to command?

Besides why am I on the front lines instead of commanding troops? Even worse. Why is the leader of entire pact risking his life on front lines instead of actually leading troops (I’m looking at you Trahernia or whatever).

The gameplay is more about special ops than army commanding. I could understand if I was commander of a single unit or airship or what not. Like commander Shepard but in a fantasy world! I mean both ME and GW2 basically tell same story. An ancient evil awakens and all must unite against it. Only ME does it a lot better.

Zhaitan the mighty… umm… you can’t even attack back???

Zhaitan fight must have been the biggest dissapointment. I mean. C’mon. Basically autoattacking the dragon to death. Even worse the mighty elder dragon fell to a single ship and couldn’t even really fight back. Amusing. Pathetic!

Much of this could have been fixed with cutscenes and better storytelling. I mean look into the Battle of the Citadel in ME (the fight against Sovereign). That’s what you should have done. Why is it just one airship hammering Zhaitan. There should have been dozens of ships firing at him. We are talking about an Elder Dragon, not about a winged newt.

It would have been even better if we had fought him in multiple stages. Sure the last part can be about us delivering the finishing blow. Now the battle is just bad from story, cinematic and gameplay perspective. Seriously I can’t put into words how dissapointed I am.

Cinematics that are blah

I’m not sure if it’s my client or what but nearly all Cinematics were missing music. For example when Zhaitan first slides in there’s no music at all. When Zhaitan gets zapped by the gun there is no music. When he breaks the gun there is no music. What gives? Epic cutscenes demand epic music or they fall flat.

Even worse was that when we downed Zhaitan this happy music started playing and everyone on the ship started shooting fireworks and cheering. Umm, except I could still see other ships fighting dragons. Why the hell we are cheering and not helping them? Battle is clearly not over after Zhaitan goes down. It felt absurd and very jarring.

Home instance that I never visit

Why doesn’t home instance play any sort of meaningful role in the game? Nothing meaningful ever goes on there. I mean seriously the first change I’d do is to give it more purpose. Make it center of some of the battles. Make it our initial base.

Heck place a vendor that unlocks all the “special” stuff we can get from heart vendors so I don’t have to hunt them down using wiki because I no longer remember where they were. Oh, and add a costume maker there so I don’t need to store them in bank.

The good few…

I loved the starting stories for Asura and Charr. For others it was acceptable until the “real” dragon story started. Except Tybalt was also awesome. Those are the only memorable storylines and NPCs.

All in all it’s a major dissapointment. The feel is not just there. I never felt like anything was urgent or I was cooperating with people. There were just NPCs spouting flat lines about urgency and cooperation, and about how I’m apparently the new messiah. Because you know. They couldn’t have done this without me autoattacking Zhaitan to death!

However I do enjoy jumping puzzles and have jumped through most of them even though I’m the guy who somehow managed to drop off of the first chain in mad king’s dungeon… and that didn’t even require any jumping. Should tell something about my skills.

Most people probably fell because they panicked. The time limit forced people forward so they panicked. Simple as that. Personally I liked this as it made the jumping puzzle more exciting.

I guess in future it might be better to have more complex and dangerous jumping puzzles in events but without the time limit. Even slower folks can jump through those.

I still hope we will see more as exciting and fun jumping puzzles as the Clocktower.

For everyone who is thinking about rerolling: last time I tried it you can actually transmute the item from new characters to others. It says the item is soulbound but it actually does not prevent the transmutation or equipping. It only works between professions that wear same type of armor (for example I transmuted the mesmer mask for my elementalist).

However I’m not entirely sure if new patches have changed this. You should be still able to transmute elementalist headgear between elementalists though.

Sadly as the previous poster points out the bug is still there, so it’s not a good idea to transmute any of the eyes.

We have moas that screech all kinds of buffs and birds that use swiftness on their own but how can we not have a pet that grants the most important on command buff?

Seriously I’d boot any pet I’ve now to get a pet with controllable swiftness buff because it actually allows me to use it out of combat where it is most useful. Especially since Rangers don’t have reliable swiftness buff from utility. Hell swap the crummy F2 slashes that birds currently have with their quickening screech. Alternatively new Moa type maybe?

Armor Swapping (Trading Post Item?)

Hello,

I’ve found a few sets of armor that I really like but the problem is that I’d rather not lug them around in my backpack where they are so slow to equip. Now we already have the swapping for town clothes but in all honesty I haven’t really seen anyone using those even on the unofficial RP server.

Why not add option to swap real armors? I mean you can already do it but it’s just slow equipping one piece at a time. Perhaps disable the option in combat if it’s a balance concern.

Suggestion: Add possibility to swap between two sets of armor. As this is basically similar to buying extra inventory space maybe sell it on black lion for similar price?

Seeing map/armors/stuck/weapons or other art issues?

I’ve reported this both on forums and in game before but here goes for the proper thread as well:

Elementalist characters can pick a favorite attunement in the character creation which grants them an in game item called “<element> eye”. In my case it’s the flame eye.

When you transmute the eye to any other head gear the item dissapears in game. Basically it looks like your character is not wearing anything on their head. However the item shows up fine on character selection screen.

Checking or unchecking the headgear visibility box has no effect. Neither has zoning or re-equipping the eye. I have also tried transmuting it to another piece of headgear as well as transmuting the eye from entirely another character, and to another character. The only result is loss of transmutation stone.

Thanks in advance for fixing this.

Flame Eye Appearance Transmutation bug

I spent a few more transmutation stones to figure out a few things:
1. Item quality does not matter (basic, fine, masterwork)
2. I could transmute the fanged dread mask from mesmer to my elementalist
3. Transmuting flame eye from another character gives same results

So this is definitely an issue with the flame eye. I didn’t test if this happens with other elementalist starting items as I don’t feel like wasting more transmutation stones.

Flame Eye Appearance Transmutation bug

I used a transmutation stone to transmutate appearance of the elementalist starting item flame eye to a level 20 mask but after transmutation the effect no longer shows up!

Basically it looks like I’m not wearing anything which is not what I was after! However this happens only in game. When I am in the character selection screen the flame eye shows up just fine!

I have tried removing and equipping it again. Checking the hide box and unchecking it. Transferring zones. Relogging. Even transmutating from another character. Nothing helps. It no longer shows up.

As I requested before please make an option to spawn new starter item if one is lost. I’d rather not upgrade the head slot item at all if it means the appearance is lost than lose the appearance because transmutation does not work. Now I’m not sure how to get the flame eye back other than by deleting and recreating the character – again. Not something I’m too keen on after spending hours on this one.

Thank you in advance for understanding and fixing the issue.

Starting items not recoverable if accidently deleted/sold

Could you not make a new necromancer, then use the transmute stone to put the appearance onto a crafted armour, then transfer that item to your level 80?

Commented this in OP already: "I tried creating a new necromancer but as the item is soulbound it cannot be transferred even between characters of the same account. "

Yeah. I was so bummed about losing the mask I haven’t even really played that character anymore because of that. I just log in and then start thinking I should not do anything with him in case I actually end up deleting and restarting him.

I’m basically waiting for some kind of confirmation on if I have to delete the guy or if they are adding some method to reacquire those items – or if support can restore it. Support is swamped with more important cases though so I don’t expect them to get back on it anytime soon. Even to just confirm they can’t help which is hopefully not the case but something I fully expect to happen.

Hopefully they add some method to get them back. Actually it would be even nicer if they create a colorable version of that wraith masque! Not sure if it will happen though as I think it’s actually a sort of particle emitter that causes the glowing eyes look and not physical item with a colorable material zone.

Actually it also looks to me like any skins purchased from the gem store are character specific. At least I haven’t figured out a way to spawn more of them as they are delivered through mail. There’s no way I’m going to spend real cash on stuff that may end up on a character I delete!

Soulbound 'bug'?

The interesting part about salvage kits is that I had a few starting characters with salvage kits. I stored them to bank and deleted the characters and those salvage kits are not transferrable. It said they are account bound but didn’t actually allow any of my characters to remove them from bank, so I ended up deleting them.

I tested with existing characters and I could transfer the salvage kits between characters. Though I’m not sure if this is actually caused by character deletion or if those salvage kits were so old (a few days old) that something had changed in the binding mechanism.

I kept transmuting the necromancer wraith masque that is one of the options for the starting character through all levels up to level 80 as it fit to my character concept very well.

Unfortunatelly when I was upgrading equipment to level 80 I sold it to merchant as a part of inventory cleaning without realizing and now there’s no way I am able to get it back as buyback option is only when the merchant window is still open.

I tried creating a new necromancer but as the item is soulbound it cannot be transferred even between characters of the same account. However apparently it could be sold which I believe is a bug since most soulbound items cannot be sold to merchants.

I’m contemplating about deleting the character and recreating him just to get the mask back but he is already level 80 so I’d lose all those levels and all other progress I’ve made with him.

Instead of that I’m asking a way to recreate the starting item through a merchant. A bit like how the HoM portal stone works currently. I also created a support ticket on this but I doubt they can help restoring the item.
