Anet already stated that the “precursor scavenger hunt” it’s not gonna be crafting related in latest pax interview. And yes it will very expensive and hard to grind it’s just gonna be an alternative to buying it from the TP that’s all.
Legendaries need to stay unique.
To stay unique, they first need to become unique…
I really hate to say it… but these things
- Time-gating
- Dailies
- Massive crafting grind costs for ascended weapons… they remind me of Farmville.
Guild Wars 2 IS a Facebook title, so that’s normal.
More crafting? Do these devs ever get another ideas of acquiring items? What about adding hard mode to current dungeons, collect relics (that aren’t tradable) and combine them to build a precursor? I don’t want to craft more of your kitten! All they do is release items that you craft, so what’s the point of even going outside LA… i swear these people—-
Instead, would everyone please throw tomatoes and potatoes at the person(s) face who increased Ancient wood by sooooooooooo much? Thanks.

For the time and money spent, it shouldn’t look fine, good or even great…… it should look amazingballz. But what we get is ugly shaped weapons with unnoticeable Fisher Price glow to them. wtf!
I would never waste hundreds of gold getting from 400-500 then waiting two weeks to craft one fugly weapon like the one im crafting (toughness based GS which is green n ugly as hell)
Would you do it for one of the other colors? Or for any skin, for that matter? No stats, just a skin that shows you’ve mastered a craft above and beyond the practical limits of the game.
I wouldn’t, i find these ascended weapons almost as ugly as the weapons you’re starting the game with. If i had choice, i’d go with a sado-maso (as hard as it gets) dungeon to get all the cool looking gear cuz i enjoy getting stuff by doing something something called play the freaking thing and not craft everything in a city. Imagine if the whole purpose of an rpg was to buy the game, instal on your computer, buy gems, exchange them for in game money, use that money to buy all needed mats, craft all weapons and armors of your liking. How pathetic does that sound? Crafting &^%$ is a city=zero adventure been given.
The only stupid OP spec left is S/D thief IMO. Necros have to have Plague up to be able to survive a Warrior fight if they bring greedy utilities. If they don’t bring greedy utilities they can’t Spite-Epi or Corrupt Boon-Epi, which cuts into their pressure.
S/D thief still eliminates Mesmer and Ele from competitive play. Necro doesn’t have that effect.
When S/D thief is nerfed, mesmers will be back on the plate and circle jerk will continue.
terrible idea. game is pretty bad. needs more development time. maybe in 2015 when they finish split all skills for spvp and we have a second game mode we can have f2p mists esports
why everyone keep repeating meeeee!? im the only one allowed to talk about 2015 because i own a crystal ball and can see sup. On thread, i like the idea and this would be the only way to have over 1k players in the mist one year from now lol
Until the next “balance” update when different builds become the new “best” build. This should happen about the same time ANet notices that most of the population is done gearing up their mains (and maybe an alt or two) with the new gear.
That is true when talking about the overnerfed rangers but shouldn’t be the case for a guardian, warrior, engi or some others.
Lets be real here. Build variety is already as poor as it gets and everyone has like 1 build they’re running 80% of the times so just make the weapon for it, that’s what im doing at least.
I would never waste hundreds of gold getting from 400-500 then waiting two weeks to craft one fugly weapon like the one im crafting (toughness based GS which is green n ugly as hell)
Just to add my two cents, I find crafting unbelievably boring. I never craft in any game and in order to get gear, I need to grind mats over and over, which isn’t that awful because at least you’re interacting with the world and being active.
Then I need to stand in front of a crafting station when I would rather actually be doing actual content – challenging content- to get my weapons. Fractals are meant to be hard content and should reward these items as well as the rest of the jewelry.
On top of that, it looks like we’re going to be forced to craft armour as well. You can’t say that you don’t need to because if you don’t have ascended eventually, you’re just dragging your group down, locked out of high level fractals and locked out of the skins. Add in other ways to get gear that requires actual skill, please. Make it kitten hard.
totally agree with 2nd paragraph, crafting is the worst and when everything added by this company is craft-craft-craft-TP-craft it gets old and old real quick.
What’s the guild called, Nerf Me Moar Bro?
Yes. Their original target group were casuals and those who didn’t want to grind for gear stats. But the game launched beyond expectations, with a large number of buyers who were used to, and wanted stats grind. This got Anet greedy. When these new customers began to complain that there was no stats to grind for, Anet panicked and introduced Ascended gear.
Now we have a game that was developed for the no-stat-grind crowd, but has shifted its model to the stat-grind-fans. In the end, neither of these two customer bases will be happy.
GW1 was 100% cosmetic grind. Who complained? no one. No one forced you to grind an eternal sword but you may have wanted to for a lot of reasons.
Can ascended weapons that drop be sold (as opposed to the crafted asc weapons)? Or are they account bound on pickup. I would be amazed if there’s no way to buy ascended weapons.
be amazed cuz you can’t buy them.
So those that drop are account bound?
yes
I’m still waiting for Ascended back pieces to be available outside of fractals.
Should be available by 2015.

ANet does not have a “target group”. Point blank questions to the developers regarding marketing segmentation are ignored.
The quotes from ANet indicate they see the playerbase as one entity.
Which means the “typical” GW2 player is one that has the title: Golden God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals Been There Done That Respected Achiever Dungeon Master who shoots rainbow ponies in WvW, while wearing a Super Adventure Box backpack except when competing in SPvP. And otherwise enjoys running with a large pack of lag inducing zergs with pitchforks trying to ensure every bi-monthly event loop fails in order to fund their gotta-craft-em-all ascended weapon for their one and only one alt who happens to be a warrior in order to successfully PuG using the soon-to-be-implemented™ in-game LFG.
lol that was good.
90% of the ascended stuff is time-gated so the hardcore players can’t have their ascended items in a day. Instead, by time-gating this content, casual players and hardcore players are on equal footing.
In fact, it isn’t just 90% time-gated on ascended. Almost all content in Guild Wars 2 is time-gated so as to level the playing field for casuals and hardcores.
Guild Wars 2 is still 100% casual. How can I assume that? Well, I’m a hardcore player myself, and I can say that there is absolutely, positively, no hardcore content in this game at this time.
You’re soooo wrong… What kind of so called ‘casual’ have the astronomical amount of gold needed to reach 500 and then actually start crafting the weapon? This isn’t aimed at casuals but grind bots/hardcore crowd.
Diago, what you’ve said is good enough to be published on a gaming site lol no kidding. What you said is exactly what is happening to this game and sadly most people that visit official forums completely ignore and accept what is given to them since its free so who should care, right? What is done with ascended weapon is inacceptable. You should never ever time gate a player because he may just say “f this im out”. Time gating a player (which isn’t even real time gating content) in an extremely rare drop which no one forces you to get is acceptable and been in all rpg’s since forever but do not, ever put a #@$&$*&@ 24h timer for me to craft an item for which i have the mats needed. Nerfs everywhere, time gated content batman, DR,,,, where are we going with this?
They aren’t shifting to the hardcore gamer, they’re shifting to no one. What hardcore content they added this patch, last patch, the one before or others? Nothing. All they did is add ascended weapons with a very very lazy and cheap mechanic to them which requires 2 weeks of your life waiting and metric tones of gold while forcing you to do things you dislike, like puzzles would be my personal example.
Problem is they need to do it that way or a 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 % chance. Looks how many people complain about the rate of gain on precursors.
Otherwise it is just not rare or progression.
Legendary weapons are a different matter entirely. Ascended aren’t meant to be rare, just top-tier. Like exotics were before the last patch.
this plus when you look at other ascended items such as rings and how easy it is to obtain them, it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever adding a weapon that cost———-i don’t even know how much it would cost you, all i know its A LOT and waaaaaaaaay more than it should be.
everyone in here should read what Theftwind.8976 said and think for a sec. What anet is doing is wrong for the game’s good and not because you’re currently playing and liking the majority of gw2 that you should ignore this bs and tell others its all good n swell. Do you want them to become the next EA? I don’t.
You aren’t seeing the bigger picture. They nerfed karma rewards across the game. They introduced expensive karma recipes for ascended crafting. They added in karma only mats for crafting.
They are starting to move towards karma being a useful needed mat again. They need to drain the current supply of karma from players using these recipes and one off purchases. Once that is done they will almost certainly start introducing more karma based rewards and further reducing karma gains throughout the game.
In a few months time karma may be an important reward from events.
I wouldn’t laugh so hard… What Zudet says is exacly what’s happening. Don’t go spending all of your karma just yet.
I’ll try very hard not to spend my 2.5 million karma that I have……….
That’s all? just 2.5? When you start buying SOME of those Ascended recipes at 25,000K a pop you will wish you had more.
and you will be buying so kitten many for what reason exactly? Most people will craft 1 or two ascended weapons for their fav character and that no more than 50k karma…
Don’t forget armor coming later.
OMFG 3 000 000 – 25 000! Not only that but by the time they add dat armor you’ll have enough time to grow a 3 meters beard.
I’m not really interested in getting into a discussion of how many ascended weapon and armor item recipes the average player will buy because we won’t solve that. But what were you upset about again?
Why would i be upset? This thread is about their laughable patch notes nerfing karma, i stopped caring about Karma about two months after game’s release because i knew this currency isn’t going anywhere. So not upset, just find it funny that they’re doing this over 12 months after game’s release.

The only problem with what him and you said is the fact that this game been out for 1year… people have millions of karma lmao. A change to it does absolutely nothing
It does 1 thing (whole karma nerf): makes it harder for new players.
And doesnt really matter for someone with 3-5m karma.
Exactly. They’re nerfing the newcomers, gg anet.
I assume they can drop from Daily Reward Chest from events, but can they drop from for example Fractal Boss Reward Chest and/or Fractal Daily Chest?
nothing drops in fractals.
calm down bic bwoiiiii, i receive up to 5 greens per lev48 daily!

“Crafting is all well and good” no no no and more NO. Crafting isn’t good or even fine. I did not buy a crafting simulation game, i’ve had enough of that in Dead Space 3… Crafting is ‘acceptable’ but only when the mats needed are farmable and farming in an over nerfed game isn’t the answer. Plus, that only applies to meh looking exotics. I do not want craft ascended gear or other flashy skins, but attain them buy playing hard content. Why can’t they give us a hard mission/dungeon where you collect relics (which aren’t available on TP/sellable), combine them for that brand new cool looking skin as an example? Why the f is everything TP related? Its so kitten annoying…
Dungeon armor is not TP related. That will give you exotics. Vision Crystals required to craft ascended is also account bound not tradable. You have to craft it.
I agree with one of the posters above. I think they are playing around with other acquisition methods perhaps karma is somehow in the mix. Crafting was done as the game needed some more sinks. That is what this most recent patch is for. Increase rewards but also increase sinks.
im talking about weapons, not armor. I know dungeon armor isn’t on TP and that’s good and it was fun having a goal in those dungeons. Now there’s none because everyone has what they wanted. In one year, what weapon/armor skin anet added that worked just like dungeon armors? One skin, Fractal weps. In one year we received one, while getting bombarded with multiple easy to acquire skins each update which you do nothing else but buy on tp or craft. This is not how an rpg should roll, even less so when talking about an mmo.
(edited by Nuka Cola.8520)
Some people enjoy crafting. I would rather have ArenaNet add more options, and not take away options other people enjoy.
I understand that but everything is craftable in this game so wtf? How does a legendary feel like a legendary weapon when it was crafted inside mystic toilet? This the main problem with all weapon skins but Fractal ones in the game. Why even give us mats needed to craft ascended weapons? just put the weapons directly on TP/gem store with each patch cuz its essentially what they’re doing… There’s nothing that feel rewarding when you craft weapon #2937 and the next 100 cuz they’re all from crafting stations…

If i were you i’d concentrate on champ farming and forget about any other places. There isn’t a place where you’d have a higher chance of receiving the weapon so just do something that gives you the most opportunity at getting one which is champ farming. its easy, fast and boring as &^%$ but i don’t see any other options.
Looking at the wiki, the answer is no. There is however, Dragon’s Breath Bun. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dragon%27s_Breath_Bun
Dragon’s Breath Bun
Nourishment (20 m): +200 power for 30s after killing an enemy
+10 critical strike damage
+10 Experience from kills
This is the food everyone should be using in pve. Cheap, highest dps of all foods available in the game because you’ll have dat 200 power permanently and did i mention cheap? Cuz its cheaaaaap n great!
Grinding isn’t bad, nor should you be annoyed by it if you’re playing an MMO (rpg’s in general). But when you grind consists of crafting EVERYTHING inside mystic toilet/crafting stations and buying all needed mats on TP, that’s where their system becomes the ultimate epic failure of failures.
All conditions and especially Confusion is a joke in pve and im not surprised at all about anet not doing anything in the year they’ve had.
“No, I suggest it because it’s the best build for dungeon fights” Your first sentence sums it up. The reason why phantasms builds are good is because i said so is pretty much what you’re saying. When i tell you a phantasm mesmer is bad for dungeons because of our lack of good aoe phantasms outside izerker, them being too squishy to hold up against hordes of enemies with high aoe damage you give me stupidity such as as GS being bad in dungeons (which is the weapon with the best pve phantasm in the game). Proving something to you is like talking to a wall, ain’t notbody got time for dat, go run your phantasm builds and have fun lol
Nuka Cola, high level fractals is not the only thing in PvE, actually is one of the smallest part of it. So don’t use it to make a point in how shatters are better.
I will remake your question: So you suggest people to run X build because you like to fight big groups of mobs and high level fractals?
Btw, if you’re playing large groups of mobs, they usually have very low health. Also, most of the PvE is based on killing bosses (All dungeons work like this, also a lot of group events, final bosses in fractals, actual farm…). So a build for killing-lots-of-mobs-fast is not worth.
PD: It’s even more funny when shatter players say that phantasms die with a sneeze in PvE. That really shows how much they know about phantasms builds…
no, high level fractals isn’t the only pve but if a build works there it will work anywhere in the game or the new content anet will add one day. I base this on the only pve content that is half decently challenging and skipping ALL DA THINGS (like the other dudes says) isn’t an option for the majority of fractals.
Do you base your build because you skip stuff and expect everyone to do so? Or do you base your build because while exploring the world you find it to work nicely in the facerolling open world? I base mine where you can’t play blindfolded while playing with one hand… and please, phanta builds i haven’t just ran many times but its my primary builds for solo roaming in wvw which i do every day…
(edited by Nuka Cola.8520)
So, in high level fractal u run a shatter build without reflects or sustained dmg. Ok…
stupid responses are stupid. Focus reflects trait isn’t the only reflects mesmers have access to so you know.
Every single dungeon in this game you skip unless you’re forced to fight or if the mobs die quickly enough it doesn’t even matter and there’s a large number of them (e.g. risen and destroyer spawns in CoE)
If you’re going to be arrogant, at least know what you’re talking about it.
So you suggest people to run X build because you skip? Try high level fractal and go skip there with your phantasm builds…
In CoF p1 you fight two mobs, a boss, warriors fight the acolytes, you ignore the mobs at the gate and then you fight effigy.
All you do in dungeons is boss-skip-boss-skip.
Therefore, since you say phantasm is better in 1v1, it’s better for dungeons.
You’re a perfect example of a person that does nothing else but easiest possible dungeon paths and come here suggesting a phanta build… Who cares what’s good in CoF p1? like seriously…. go naked by spamming your auto and you’ll do fine in there.
“You’ve also completely ignored situations where aoe is not necessary, such as boss fights”
I don’t know how many times i have to repeat myself on this forum… Boss fight is ONE target. Phantasm builds aren’t just good against one target but are better than shatter. What does that mean? it means i don’t shatter on bosses and let my phantasms do the job. Yes they will deal less damage than on a pure phantasm build but so what? its only 1 boss… I wouldn’t be running a shatter build if every dungeon had a maximum amount of 3 enemies at once and this is not the case. I will repeat this for the last time~~~~ Phanta builds are superior for low amount of targets fighting you at once ( i’d say 1-3 bosses is a good example). Shatter builds are MUCH better when you’re fighting mobs of enemies. You don’t gain anything by shattering a single target with one billion HP and for that reason a phanta build is better. On the other hand, when fighting 10+ ads it would be very stupid of you to rely on weak phantasms to dps that not only can and will die quickly but other than iZerker we have nothing that is aoe and follows target(s)
Why exactly won’t you go on full iwarden spin lol this is not pvp where you have to shatter before iLeap immobilize ends and your opponent has a chance to dodge your burst… You maximize your damage in pve and it would be very stupid of you to shatter before iwarden ends his spin. Phantasms don’t deal more damage, phantasms deal more damage on single target, not when there’s 15 ads spamming their aoe…
Also, you talk about bosses. How many targets are there? Mostly 1… Did i EVER said a phantasm build is bad for 1 or very low amount of targets? No, never because its actually better. When on boss (excluding bosses with with tones of adds such as shaman in fotm) i don’t shatter and let my phantasms do their job.
In fractals, my zerker will generally do upwards of 4k-7k damage on mobs/bosses. This is roughly equivalent to 1 shatter. If the zerker attacks more than once, it has now out-dpsed shatter. Keep in mind that’s only 1 phantasm.
@Nuka Cola: I’ve never seen an explanation that holds water as to how shatter is better than phantasms in dungeons/fractals. If you did before, it wasn’t on these forums. You do seem to think you can explain it though, so I invite you to try.
how exactly do you want me to prove? If there was a dps tool, i would have proved everyone who seriously think phantasm builds are better but there isn’t… The main reason and mostly the only reason why phantasm build is much worst isn’t even the fact that they die quick but the lack of aoe phantasms. iZerker is the ONLY one that does what it should. Even tho, ai is garbage and will stay in its aoe, this won’t be happening all the time and iwarden will be killing more flies than anything.
In any competent dungeon group, killing trash will be done in an efficient and tight packed manner. This means that dropping a warden and a zerker into the pack of mobs will do a massive amount of damage (warden usually spins for >10k). That is the limit of necessary aoe.
Against almost all bosses, aoe is not necessary. You don’t need to worry about the aoe potential of your phantasms. You only need to worry about single target damage (and maybe reflects). So you get your warlocks or duelists or swordsmen up, and they’ll be chunking the target continually. Smart placement of the phantasms gives far higher rates of survival, especially since they can eat a couple hits after that hp boost.
You can’t always out of LoS mobs on high level fractals because you may all die at once from aoe and if you don’t die, IP+all your shatter and iwarden (if you care about it so much) are here to hit everything at once while your phantasm builds need ages to re-engage (that is only if they aren’t dead and they’re most of the times)
In fractals, my zerker will generally do upwards of 4k-7k damage on mobs/bosses. This is roughly equivalent to 1 shatter. If the zerker attacks more than once, it has now out-dpsed shatter. Keep in mind that’s only 1 phantasm.
one thing you have to keep in mind is that a shatter build also has access to that same izerker AND is more spammable because of IC+deals as much or even more damage because you have might stacks building from shatter/SS.
The shatter iZerker will do approximately 50% of the damage that a phantasm iZerker will do because of differences in traiting. There have been several phantasm builds shown in this thread that double trait several weapons, so using IC as an excuse is no relevant.
this is absolutely not true. i don’t even run zerker in high level fractals (2k power/78% crit damage) and i see plenty of mid 5k aoe on izerker.
