Actually there is going to be a new race. They’re called the Avwhe, rumor has it that stands for Angry Vets Who’ve Had Enough.
Good luck trying to see one, though. They have a special racial skill of quantum-shift invisibility. It will be as if they’re not even there.

strangely enough, i’m feeling it for both sides, i’m trying to see anets side too in the challenges they face with today’s market and having to please investors, that can be pressure.
I’m just trying to find the point in time when they stopped trusting us to just buy stuff and support them, and instead thought more about marketing and statistics ?
where exactly in time did we stop being friends ?Soooo much of this +1
+1
Off the top of my head, 3 events come to mind:
- When the other founders and hold-over krew from GW1 quit
- When ArenaNet moved into their new multi-million dollar HQ we bought them
- When Nexon and krew got involved
I still cannot believe players aren’t down at AN HQ with torches and pitchforks. They didn’t finish Guild vs Guild in the core game GUILD WARS 2, let alone the ending, and then 3 years later are charging players $ for it.
That’s the equivalent of a Star Trek game charging you extra to use warp drive, or a Star Wars game charging you extra to use a light saber.
And instead of rioting, a lot of players are CELEBRATING this fact.

Guys, the googly eyes is a helmet skin. It’s 800 gems on the BLTC. Nice try though!
Grab it while you can though, it’s being taken down and won’t be available again until next spring!
Just think of this… if the majority of people that buy HoT are the noobs… and they never even make it to 80 to access it….
So much face palm.
Holy kitten is that carrot on one heck of a loooooooooooong stick.
The only explanation I can come up with is I think they’re trying to make this a thing again.

To clarify: $50 is the price of the expansion. We included the core game as a free bonus to make it easier for new players to get into it.
“There is no such thing as a free lunch”
And that’s been the crux of much of this debate. Some know marketing jargon when we see it. Unfortunately, there are a lot of kids/young adults out there that either haven’t learned this lesson or didn’t put their thinkin’ caps on.
Those infomercials late at night that offer you those “free” gifts? It’s included in your bill. Either in shipping & handling, promotional kickbacks, or the products are close to dirt cheap to manufacture.

Oh, you and I are in 100% agreement. I’m not defending ArenaNet, believe me. I just came back from a 3 day ban.

Sorry but are you crazy?! Living under a rock or something?! Lack of content?! I’m actually sorry I stopped playing for awhile because I missed half of seasons 1 and 2.
It’s funny you would say that.
Did you miss season 1? Then it’s gone. You didn’t play it and you can’t actually play it.
Season 2? If you missed, it, then you won’t play unless you pay more for it.
So, where is that “free content” you were talking about? Looks like it’s also under a rock, because it isn’t anywhere in GW2 right now.
+1
This mythical “FREE CONTENT” these people keep trotting out and parading in front of the judges is just that, a myth. Locked behind a time gate and paywall, funded by regulars making purchases in the gemstore. Most have been tricked by word games and don’t even know it. Hook, line, & sinker. That’s what some here on the forums the last couple of days have been trying to point out to them.

I blew 200$
Agreed.
How would you feel if your hard work and what you’ve dedicated a year or two to, was ridiculed and hated before it was even released?
As a human? Like crud.
As an artist? Like I should really try harder at improvement.
As a businessman? Like I should re-evaluate my whole approach & strategy.
Companies aren’t your friend. It is in their best interest to pretend like they are, but it’s certainly not in your best interests to let them. In the end your question is irrelevant.
Go ahead, take a bullet for ArenaNet/NCSoft. Do realize they’ll be searching through your pockets & won’t be attending your funeral.
The irony in this statement is that when coupled with the overwhelming sentiment that Anet ‘owes veteran players for loyalty’, you are flat out denying the company that has provided quite a HUGE amount of content over three years for free the same sense of ‘loyalty’.
The double irony in this statement is that it hasn’t been free. It never was free. It was financed by them dang dirty entitled vets dropping serious $cash$ in the gemstore.
I think his point was that when engaging in a financial transaction with a for profit business empathy is not a factor.
When buying a car do you allow the thought that the salesman, or manager, seem like nice guys to convince you to buy a particular model at price that you are not comfortable with?
Note that Anet adheres to his concept as they (rightfully) do not allow empathy to override financial considerations by giving the expansion at a reduced price for those who cannot afford $50.
Ding Ding Ding.
Winner Winner Chicken Dinner.
I agree with a lot of those sentiments expressed here.
They sell the core game & state you need it for the expansion.
They then do a 180 & bundle it with the expansion.
They then try to retro-edit this fact out of the FAQ.
They word things to make it sound like players will receive 1 HoT key & 1 GW2 key.
But that’s not the case, so it really isn’t a bundle.
They include a new class but leave out a character slot, fully aware (meta data) most players 3 years in will probably not have a free slot.
They then conveniently offer a character slot but at a much higher price (previous xpacs came with not 1 but 2, free).
Bottom line, my whole take on it is this: They knew what they were doing. Through clever wording and dirty marketing strategies, Anet and/or NCsoft tried tricking players into perceiving they were getting a lot more bang for their buck than they actually were in a bid to artificially boost reported sales figures/earnings. I really don’t see how anyone can come up with a convincing argument against this.
Where this goes, only time will tell. Anet’s between a pet rock & a hard place. The staff can’t really come on here and comment for fear of disciplinary action (termination) due to company policies so let’s cut them a break. Also remember the big wigs were at E3 promoting their warez. Anet needs time to come back, consult with NCsoft, sales, legal, and the PR team before they can (if at all) make any official statement. Who knows, Anet might (but I really doubt it) be the good guys in this and are having their hands tied by NCsoft and being made the scapegoat.

I can understand that some players are big fans of the game, and have full confidence in Anet as a company. What I do not get, is that some players proudly announce how they’ve forked over $50 or more for a product that isn’t finished, has an unknown release date, and unknown contents (although what we know of the contents does not justify its price tag).
What you are basically saying is “Money has very little value to me”. And while I understand that some players know they will get the expansion eventually anyway, I don’t think that supporting this business practice is a good thing. You are basically part of the problem by supporting this pre-purchase nonsense, which is bad for us as consumers.

Boy oh boy, do companies sure love impulse buyers!
I semi-retired my thief and switched to a necro.
Looks like I ran from one burning building to another. I must be a masochist.
I am not looking forward to Tuesday.
I predict, at minimum, four(4) patches to follow after the initial update.
Anet didn’t call you on the phone wanting you to buy a service.
You’re not understanding the argument.
If you don’t like the product don’t get it. No one is pushing you to do anything,
I haven’t. I’ve been voicing my displeasure with my wallet ever since the announcement. You are implying coercion. I, nor anyone, has ever claimed this to be the case. You are really failing to understand the core reasoning of the xpac debate.
you liberal
You really shouldn’t throw out phrases when you don’t understand their meaning and aren’t able to apply their correct usage within context.
Referencing an urban dictionary instead of an actual dictionary doesn’t bolster your case much, either.
Have a great day bud!
My empathy for you ends when you are trying your best to separate my money from my wallet.
The changes to Consume Conditions and Ricochet have pretty much left my jaw on the floor. Anet is so out of touch with their game it’s maddening.
The Warriors in their class forum seem sort of oblivious to the rest of the classes. There’s quite a bit of “OMG Anet why you nerf us to the ground” and “OMG we need this super powerful trait as baseline or we’ll suck” threads going on there. Like, can we have Close to Death made baseline please? It’s very important for many builds.
No surprise. One of the easiest and most brain dead of classes out there. Wouldn’t doubt for one second the majority of Anet roll or ‘main’ one. We can see some problems of that popping up as a result.
We know Anet doesn’t play Thief. Sorta looking like we can add Necro to that list. When devs state things like X was changed because a lot of the player base was asking for it when literally NO ONE, ZERO, 0, ZIP, NADA actually were. Well… it shows how far their craniums are up their kittens.
the changes were really good. lots of options for necros. experienced players are loving it for the most part.
I don’t know who is more out of touch with reality. You or Anet….
They deserve every bit coming to them….
It’s been building for a long time.

Arenanet also did pre purchase before. And they didn’t disappoint us.
So why do you believe they do it now?
You had an awesome first game. You had an awesome Guild Wars 2. Why is there any reason to believe that HoT won’t be awesome as well?
Are you friggin serious?
Can’t tell if you are serious or troll….
Want a short answer?
2015 Anet is the polar opposite of 2006 Anet .
I must admit the community relations and marketing departments are exceptionally bad at Arena Net.
So bad in fact that the topics constantly pop up complaining about them. I think they only hire idiots into the marketing department and the community relations department is essentially castrated by Arena Nets policies, effectively making them useless to the community.
May not be the intention to make the community mad, but they constantly make decisions that actively do that.
I think I have a good idea (besides what’s been said on record) as to why the other founders left.
Ever since Jeff Strain and krew left, the promises, commitments, quality, and everything else we’ve come to take for granted from Anet has went down the toilet.

I would wait.
$50. For what?
This is the real problem that most of ppl are trying to understand…
I’m gonna buy HoT
Let me stop you right there. I assure you that’s where Anet stopped.
They got’chya. They won. They don’t care beyond that point. All else is irrelevant. You aren’t a valued customer. You are a pip on their meta data chart.
As long as others are like this, these things by Anet will be the status quo.
@Nike: Keeping FAQ current is good, but they did it in a way that invited this response. A sudden change of plans is definitely understandable. However, it should have immediately been made clear why the change was made and that those effected negatively would be compensated.
Lets be clear. They screwed up. On many fronts. Like I said earlier this has ALL the ear marks of a rushed job. I mean we we’re watching some classic corporate whoopsie this week.
BUT. Lets hound them for the things they did wrong and not this irrational spasm attacking the FAQ getting an update.
When has Anet NOT released a rushed job? Their quality has been circling the toilet bowl for a long time now.

Totally Agree, lol
Everyone where scammed equally in the others game.
Whereas, there it’s veteran getting scammed and newcomer being rewarded.
Do you see the difference ?
I sure do.
No, he’s too busy making memes that don’t apply to the situation or are so bombastic in their context. He’s referring to a SC comment I made earlier. What he’s conveniently leaving out is the current stage of the game, the reason those ships are priced that way, the fact you don’t have to buy said ships, and no one suggested to do so.
However, if Mr. English wants to be the Jerry Seinfeld of the internets…

I have bought every Arena Net product to date. No longer.
I went from the biggest fan to hating this company and its inept staff with a passion.
They break more things than they fix. They punish loyalty. They insult intelligence.
My wallet and I will be going to Fallout 4 and Star Citizen.
Arena Net has become the very thing they set out to destroy.

Legacy Gemstore skins.
Now this.
They have a giant marble sculpture of a middle finger in their lobby that we paid for. All employees every morning bend and rest their forehead on it in hopes of inspiration on how to screw vets over next.

Dear Arena Net,
With what seems to be a recurrence of having to patch the patch of the patch you just released, every time you implement a patch, the huge amount of bugs, and the huge amount of time it takes you to fix those bugs, along with the mind boggling changes made to the game, and traits (I’m looking at you Necro & Thief). Well, put simply, you’re work is shoddy. Now you expect me to pay full game price for your expansion 3 years on down the line, character slot not included?
…How do I put this in terms you will understand?
It’s definitely not on the table.
Not anytime soon™.
Kitten no.
Meta data points to not likely.
This won’t end well.
No to these MASSIVE changes.
You’re not building the game mode as it’s intended.
Sincerely,
Your once biggest fan, to your most bitter detractor.

Potential Ways to Fix the Problems
Step 1- Fire a load of staff. They have turned a franchise that I would tell my friends and family about into a flaming train wreck where every month I am continuously befuddled and enraged at their “work”, and I use that term lightly.
Step 2- Hire as much of the departed staff as you can back, including the other founders. The heart and soul of Arena Net is gone. Mike O’Brien has shown he cannot captain this ship alone.
A skill that is meant to cleanse you of conditions, gives you a condition, two if traited.
Arena Net, you guys are a bunch of friggin idiots, no joke.
Perfect example. You say condi needs to be buffed. rolls eyes
Except it doesn’t…..
Fix DD and PP’s identity crisis and cond caps and you solve a ton of issues.
You want to massively change something you have almost zero to a very limited knowledge on and expect me to be polite and respectful? LOL
Good luck with that. Maybe a few dozen more quotes will change my mind….
Peow Peow, go cry somewhere else. Seriously, it’s getting old.
You cry babies are all the same. You suck(we all did at one point). But you aren’t willing to learn and get better. You cry. And cry, and cry, and cry, and cry.
From alive to not alive? I sure hope so.
It boggles my mind some of you actually listen to Darksyze. Apart from his incoherent jibberish and affinity for quoting. He talks with authority on the mechanics of Thief profession, yet he doesn’t own a thief. Let me repeat that for some of you that seem to have 5 stacks of confusion.
HE
DOES
NOT
HAVE
A
THIEF
Ignore the tool.
Doesn’t have a thief.
Thinks his ideas are the best changes for the class and game.
You can’t make this stuff up, kids!
I agree Klowde. He sounds like Tim Taylor (Allen) from Home Improvement after his neighbor Wilson gives him advice.
First of all you cannot shut down this class anymore. They have too many evades and escapes. Why should a class be given weapon evades, utility evades and dodge rolls with vigor. When can your enemy even touch you?
Secondly, they have to much regen. If a thief uses vamprism runes or shadows regeneration skill set, they either run away and heal or continue to heal every few seconds. Some thieves have low life cause they know they will regen it all every few seconds and cant be killed no matter what. I hardly see thiefs get killed inpvp anymore.
Anet needs to nerf this class before its to late.
You posted this in the wrong forum. The Warrior section is that a way —>
Do. Not. Gamble. With. The. Toilet.
The ones telling you to go for it probably have a vested interest in you doing so.
cough selling you rares on TP cough
I should get my cold checked out.
Why would you even take away legacy skins from the gem store? What the heck?
To complete their huge middle finger to the vets of old.
I feel real sorry for any gw1 player starting out, look at what Anet’s done.
Want those HoM skins and titles you grinded your kitten off for?
Nope! They rushed a horrible patch, locked the HoM, and still haven’t fixed anything months and months after.
Want those rare dungeon weapons you slaved over and are so proud of?
Do you have a credit card? Good news! You can buy them in the store.
Want those GW1 concept art skins?
Do you have a credit card? Good news! You can buy them in the store. But hurry, don’t delay, they are being removed. Why? …Because… rea$on$!
Anet’s lucky I don’t run that company. I would immediately fire 3/4, do what ever it took to get the ones that left to come back, cut back on all the bloated flatscreens and food and take that money and use it to pay the staff a decent wage and hire a REAL QA team.
(edited by Odyssey.2613)
When it comes to dungeons, if someone tells you to do something, you really need to think about what they are saying and not take it as a personal attack. You are in a team setting, and if you are not being a team player…. well….. I can understand their frustration.
Last night I was in a dungeon with a Necro and I was asking him to manage the parties conditions. He informed me the Necro can’t because they don’t have any cond cleansing skills.
Oh, okay then.
Not only that, but the 700AP guy, who claimed it was his second account, goes on to tell me he has constant burning on him and I don’t because I block burning. I told him I have 0 blocks. Well it’s because my toughness is so high and toughness is an auto block for conditions.
At that point I left the party.
its quite widely rumored that BG and JQ have guilds with access to both servers and they decide who gets 1st place every week.
Is this true? because it seems like TC only gets first if BG and JQ allows it.
at least thats what the rumor says.
A couple big name commanders and big name guilds do. Why? I don’t know for sure. It sounds dumb to me. I’ve heard to “teach them a lesson”. Which sounds even dumber to me. Borders on match manipulation IMO. I’m sure someone will jump on here and explain it all and how it’s all to promote good will and peace on earth.
And +1 rhapsody.
You get it. It’s hard to describe that feeling of accomplishment to those who have none.
I don’t know why you grind to get a weapon. Just play dungeons over and over until you have the gold to buy the weapon!
FML
At first I want to applaud her. My initial reaction was “Finally, someone at Anet gets it!”
But……..
After thinking it over I’m a little nervous now. Considering how relatively easy it is to throw up an outfit in the gemstore versus designing and making content around an armor skin in-game.
Yeah… Anet’s going to take the easy road 99% of the time.
I absolutely agree with you 100% Pyriel.
When they offered tormented weapons in the gemstore, it was essentially a slap in the face to vets and it raised a red flag for me.
Furthermore, when they pulled the same kitten with chaos weapons, it was a sign there is no hope for what the players want and all that’s left is what lines Anet’s pockets the best.
The Anet of old would release art in an artistic way, then await the cash.
Now it seems Anet wants that cash, so they throw together something they think will sell.
