Please look into giving Celestial Avatar an ICD and making it so you dont lose all your built up Astral Force if you exit early. This would make the mechanic feel much, much smoother.

Oh! I have an idea!

Give group Boons on early exit. The number (and/or duration) of Boons depend on how much celestial energy left in the metre. A slightly different version of Celestial Shadow, I suppose.

So now Celestial Avatar serves two purposes: heal support and boon support. A Druid can either stay in Celestial Avatar for the whole duration and heal the group up, or pop in and out quickly and offer the group some other support, or a mixture of the two without wasting any of the celestial energy.

Ranger have Torch and Flame Trap for Might blasting anyway. I have been running a A/T burning sinister Ranger for a few months already. I can stack Might quite easily, particular with a Drake around.

I would love to have some condition damage in Staff; perhaps some burning in Solar Beam (“Solar” = fire = burning…?). But other than that, apart from some more tuning on Staff and Glyph, I do not think Druid should have more offensive conditions.

That being said, I would strongly recommend having some defensive boons built into, at least, Celestial Avatar form. May be group Protection, Aegis or Stability. Or perhaps Retaliation. At least in that case, Druid is not merely a heal-bot in Celestial Avatar form; it can do more by way of boons support instead of compensating the losing of health by massive healing.

Two more suggestions on Celestial Avatar:

1. Make the number 1 skill a cone in front of the player instead of ground-targeted; similar to one of the old Tome of Courage skills.

2. Celestial Avatar does not need dps BUT it would be like to offer (defensive) boon support like Aegis or Protection etc.

Take this as a simplistic feedback from a healing pov, maybe in a pve raid setting: What boggles me a bit is that a staff ele (also tempest) could provide enough heals but over a larger area while also doing other stuff like damage a raid boss and provide boons like 40% prot and might. A druid has his healing bursts in CA but is it really needed, and it only provides heals and some condi cleanse, over shorter time and area. Why take a druid that only does that at best, when class x could do more things at the same time, which is of benefit to overcome an encounter faster. I dont like to compare classes I just wanted to mention the functionality from a narrow perspective. Hopefully Im wrong.

Well… perhaps if you factor pets into consideration, the Druid can heal on one side while simultaneously pets can do a lot of other things else where. So essentially a Druid can do whatever a Ranger does in its normal form. Then when the time is right, switch to Celestial Avatar form for some heal support. All the while the whichever pet is doing whichever pet does.

I think the key is “simultaneously” doing two things at two places. A Druid can switch between the Celestial Avatar form; one pet can switch to another. So there are quite a few things going on at the same time. So, Druid does have its uses.

(I know pet’s AI can be a bit of a problem. But that is an all together different topic best discuss elsewhere)

3. Building up energy to switch to celestial form is clunky. When you need to heal, you need to heal. Celestial form should probably just a be a straight up toggle.

I kind of agree and disagree on this as well. It needs to be more flexible. You need to be able to go into it, heal a little, come out, and have energy left over if you didn’t do much. I don’t think you should be able to Celestial infinitely, that would be tough to balance, but ti would make sense to have it be something you could swap in and out of every 5-10 seconds, like Shroud.

Having an always on Celestial Avatar will make Druid into a traditional trinity healer. That is what most people were worrying about since the revelation.

Celestial Avatar is not like Shroud; it is more akin to Plague or Lich Form with an addition mechanism (instead of a fixed cooldown) for which to be available. I think it is a very well thought out setup to have a healer but not a trinity healer.

That said, Celestial Avatar needs some fine tuning to be user-friendly. Yes, “user-friendly” from a healer prospective, which seems to be the major complaint people are having so far.

The size of the pets are designed with Human in mind. They look just right beside Human and Sylvari.

Alongside Asura, they general look big as though those Asuras can ride them (and they should, for fun at least).

On the other end of the scale, pets look kind of too small for Norn and Charr. Cats look like kitty; birds bees; dogs puppies.

Godzilla Bristleback might be on the extreme side. But at least finally something that looks as though it means business and something worth my Norn ranger to tame.

So for that reason, I really do not want Godzilla to ever shrink.

I have tried Druid for a few more hours and also have kept reading comments on this forum.

These are my second impressions:

- Yes, Druid can be build as a Power/Heal hybrid. I do not know if it is intentional or if it is just the fact that healing coefficient is generally not that good in this game. Maxing Healing makes little different than having a little less. So I do not feel that Druid can be a hardcore backline constant-heal-doling traditional healer that solve all the problem in difficult contents. For the time being, at least on paper, the best build is either Cleric or Zealot, or a bit of both.

- Yes, Druid is very Staff dependent, which is rather annoying indeed. I do agree that at least one power in Staff has to buff the pets similar to other weapons. How about Staff 2? Staff 4 needs not to be ground-targeted; it makes it so hard to use. Other effects need to be longer as well.

- Other weapons need to be able to contribute to the build up of Celestial Avatar as well. Celestial Avatar needs to be able to activate even if the metre is not full. Sometimes, you just need that little emergency heal to get through. Also Celestial Avatar, or Druid in general, needs stability. Or at least a stun-breaker to be able to function properly as a (emergency) healer in life-or-death situation. It could be the Celestial Avatar, i.e. F5, itself.

- Heal coefficient needs to be a bit higher than normal for the Druid to work. I suggest that either be higher in Celestial Avatar form or have a trait that convert other stats into Healing.

- Glyphs need wider radii. My main issue is with Glyph of Unity; I can never see if I actually tether to someone or not. Most of the time, I do not.

- Cosmic Ray is so very hard to hit since people are normally moving around all the time. I saw most people just firing it randomly without much hope of it actually doing something as intended. I would rather it be a skill that targets other players instead.

- Those new Pets are just right. Well done!

Druid so far has received mixed review. I think the negative reviews are mostly to do with the “chunkiness” of some skills (as listed above). Have those polished will certain make it a very solid Elite spec.

My first impression was -> this is fantastic. So, well done on that.

Further thoughts I’ve had…

-Most of the issues stem from Astral Force…acquisition and expendeture.

-Because of the nature of Astral Force building, it makes our 2nd weapon seem pointless. Perhaps make it so our other weapons can still build AF, but at a slower rate? That way we aren’t completely punished for using a 2nd weapon set. Otherwise, it just feels off.

-Staff holding animation could be better

-Losing all AF when we choose to leave form early is very frustrating imho. I would much prefer it to be like Death Shroud where you have more control of your resource pool.

Agree with point 2 to 4.

As to 1, I think Celestial Avatar can last just a little longer and/or may be have a few second of stability of something build into it either by default or as trait.

I am currently running this build: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQNBmOD7keVogVsiVwmVgoVskIYwX1t6X1p0t6adPBgY3MbEnB-TRRGABA8EAYR9ndU+1pSwO0NAA-e

My initial impression is that:

-DPS seems acceptable albeit very single-target orientated with staff. I do not like the fact that Vine Surge is ground targeting; it is very fiddly to use.

-I do not like the Staff be held as though it is a Hammer. I also do not like the animation of skill 1: must the Staff be held that high?

-My prefer strategy is to use my pets as a main source of DPS (Smoke Scale and whatever else). That is why I pick Bountiful Hunter, Fortifying Bond, Warhorn and Axe in order to give my pets as much DPS as possible.

-My ranger can still do decent damage even with Cleric. Given the fact that I am rather comfortable soloing so far, I may switch my accessories and weapon to Zealot aiming to push my crit-chance to +30% in order to take advantage of Sigil of Strength and Fortifying Bond.

-Glyph of Alignment and Glyph of Equality are rather good and I used them very often. But I do not seem to be able to get the most from Glyph of Unity.

-Overall, I do not feel that Druid is a hardcore full time healer. Celestial Avatar is not an always on ability and that gives the Druid the choice to flip between being a healer (with Daze on short cooldown) and being a DPS-dealing as usual. I think it is more akin to Lich Form and Plague but with 10 abilities to choose from within a short time theme. It is all a strategic decision as to when to be a healer.

-I would say that: it is a very solid hybrid healer and if it is spec probably it can be a hybrid heal/DPS quite easily.

In that case, I think a power/heal hybrid is still a viable choice for Druid. A full set of Zealot will not lose out much in terms of healing potential.

I am running a Cleric armour with Zealot all things else in the beta and I am doing just fine. In fact, everything feels smooth without sacrificing too much DPS.

Staff Druid seems to be rather power-based. If I want a good heal/condi hybrid, any suggestion?

Many thanks!

For a bunker condi build with lots of healing you could try:

Weaponset: Axe/Torch + staff (that’s if you want to use Staff at all, otherwise you could take the current Axe/Dagger + Sword/Torch condi set up)

Armour and trinkets: Apothecary (PvE/WvW) or Settlers (PvP) both are condi, toughness and healing power stats

Runes: Runes of the Undead (toughness + condi damage, 7% of toughness converted into condi damage) These are very cheap too!

Traits: Wilderness Survival/Nature Magic/Druid (individual traits are your choice but the best ones are fairly obvious to pick)

Sigils: geomancy and bursting I’d take, but these may be switched at your whim.

Thanks!

IF I want to keep Beastmastery, which one of the two – Wilderness and Nature Magic – can I drop?

I couldn’t say to be honest – you’d have to go on gw2skills editor and cross compare them. Personally – and I think most would agree – Wilderness Survival and Nature Magic are both better than Beastmastery because they offer better traits… but it depends how exactly you plan on playing your build. If you want more pet involvement then yes take Beastmastery, but it’s too tough to choose between WS and NM >.<

I know… so difficult to choose.

Yes indeed I want to involve my pets more either by way of compensating my personal DPS or by way of other supports. I think because I used to play pet-class for a long long time so using pet active has been ingrained in my playstyle.

I notice the build calculator has been updated. I shall play around with it.

Thank you very much for your suggestions again.

I think in terms of front loaded “Condition” burst, Engineer seems to be the best, although the combo is a bit complicated.

In terms of Burning burst, I think Elementalist is slight better than Ranger. But Ranger brings more group support. Most of the burn skills on both classes are on a shorter cooldown, which makes maintaining burning stacks much easier.

I however struggle with Guardian to reach the burst potential comparing to the rest, contrary to what others have suggested. Am I not doing it right?

Oh My God.8423

I actually want to build a strong condition DPS-er. I have played Power build for a long while. I am looking forward to trying something a little different.

These are the two Burn-centric Elementalist builds I have been using for the past few weeks:

Glyph build
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vFAQJAodnMICNNgFNA2MA8RgBBALCAFgHw8D2B3waT2GODA-TBiAABXcCAgZ/Bo1DAwDA4ZzfSrE0alfUr+DA-e

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vFAQJAodhcMosh9NwuB8RMIAYRAoA8AmfwOoIUby2QaA-TBiAABXcCAgZ/Bo1DAwDA4ZzfSrE0alfUr+DA-e

Both of them can stack up to 10+ (averaging 14) of Burning and 10+ of Might very quickly. The only downside is being so squishy.

This is the Ranger builds I have been playing:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQJA3fjMqQ7K2sCuqAXLGKEqPBy9Ao/gh9E4JodfgKECE-TxhAABws/g0KBf28H0PAQnA1q/YtyPAOIAAA-e

This build is actually very good. It can easily stack up to 10+ of Burning. Might stacking is only about 5+. Even if I use Sigil of Strength, it is still just under 10 stacks of Might. It offers more group support with the two Spirits and Healing Spring.

This is the Burn-centric Guardian I made this weekend:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vVAQNAR8PlsAhmhY5QggIOiHqaA0A1rNEehHNPGt4MC-TxhAABX8AAgZ/BpVC+s5PqV/xalfAcRAAA-e

I have not decided what to go with Torch yet. Likewise, I have no idea what the third utility skill may be; at the moment, I am using either Hallowed Ground or Signet of Wrath.

So, any suggestions?

Many thanks!

Need some advice on a Burning D/F build

in Elementalist

Posted by: Oh My God.8423

Oh My God.8423

Hello all,

I have been running the following burning D/F build for a few weeks already and I am very happy with it in PvE. It can pump out 10+ stack of burning within a short while, meanwhile maintaining 10+ Might with ease. I switch to D/D sometimes but lately I find myself having to rely on Obsidian Flesh and Magnetic Wave quite often.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vFAQJAodnMICNNgFNA2MA8RgBBALCAFgHw8D2B3waT2GODA-TBiAABX8AAlgBp+DM7PctyBo1DAwJAwBTeQpkDA-e

That said, it is not perfect: it is rather squishy. I used Rabid armour in order to up the Toughness a bit. But to be honest, it is barely noticeable. Diamond Skin is good. But I do not feel I can take full advantage of it since my Vitality is already too low and I can easily drop below 90% if I am not careful.

As you might notice, I only have two pieces of Sinister accessories so far. I am not sure if I have the time to get all the Sinister accessories. I may just buy myself a full set of ascended instead. Shall I use Dire armour with ascended Dire/Rabid accessories instead? How about overall Celestial? How much a drop to my total (Power+Conditions) DPS output if I go full Celestial?

In terms of traits, shall I keep using Pyromancer’s Training or switch to Power Overwhelming? Any one good with maths can help me with that?

I am still trying to figure out whether Flamewall or Ring of Fire can stack more Burning. Which one is better?

I do enjoy playing a Burning Elementalist. But the kill-or-be-killed nature can be a frustrating sometimes.

Any suggestions to improve it?

Many thanks!

Sinister Engi is highest sustain damage in the game right now according to many of the people that calculate that sort of thing.

I changed all my ascended gear over the other day (love how easy that is), and it’s pretty great. You can stop to revive a teammate or kite the boss around and still do a ton of damage because of all the ticking condis. Condis alone are ~12k DPS in pugs and you still have decent direct damage.

They could just make it one skill for pet elite, dependant on what weapon is in your MH at the time. So, they would only need to make 5 skills.

Shadow step for LB, Leap finisher for SB, Blast Finisher for Sword, Super Speed for GS and Whirl finisher for Axe. I dunno, things like that.

Not a bad idea at all!

That gives another layer (tactical) decision-making in weapon choosing.

Yeah, take a look at Protective Ward. I think its ANets answer to pets being gibbed in dungeons (if played lazily ).
If you were to run the standard Frost Spotter build, with the new specialisation, you get Strider’s Defense, one of the master traits (I would take Windborne Notes for WH and Beastmaster’s Bond) in Nature Magic and Protective Ward.
If you are in melee range, this will give the pet protection for 80% uptime (Lingering Magic) and also 50% uptime on non-boss mobs of weakness, that is a pretty huge damage reduction right there. I’m betting that the protection applies before the pet takes damage too, like how Nature’s Protection works. Also, the regen on swap from WN and BB will help keep the pets health up somewhat.

Let me writing all these down…

BUT I think I am most certainly taking the BM line. Marksmanship line and Skirmishing line are high on my list too. Hmmm… where do Nature fit in… (arrrrgh!)

…… but expanding us to have an F5 would let us get a second activated skill from our pets which is VERY much needed.

That is the underlying reason for my suggestion.

But I do want to make using the F5 skill more of an occassion than just another F2 skill; and hence the idea of Pet Elite.

For myself, I always play a pet class in MMO. So managing a pet or pets is not difficult at all for me; and pet management in GW2 is quite straight forward. So I suppose adding a function to the pets may add some flavour.

New, Better Ranger Mechanic?

in Ranger

Posted by: Oh My God.8423

Oh My God.8423

I agree with everything that Heimsharl has said I would add that axe main hand is the rangers tagging weapon. I know that a lot of people use it as a condi weapon (20% chance to spread condi isn’t that great and the condi on the weapon do just fine with out specing into condi’s), but as a power weapon it can crit 2-3k. So against another ranger where your attack will bounce of the ranger to the pet and back to the ranger its roughly a 5k attack.

I also don’t believe rangers are spam one to win. As a ranger you need to use you skills at the right time. Where as with some other classes you just do your rotations no matter what.

As a ranger its harder to reset a fight. Those of use that are good can do it at will but take a lot more effort than an ele, Mesmer, thief, warrior or engi.

I don’t think pet boons need to cover a larger area.

Some have suggested that ranger pet’s get a 75% aoe reduction that would just be plain broken. There are video of pets pretty much soloing bosses. People have gotten banned for botting because they went afk in the silverwaste and pets were killing mobs and they would get event credit.

I can envision jaguars in wvw destroying arrow carts and back liners will the ranger dodge 2000 units away to provide more protection or have other buff the ranger to it can share the boons with pets. On some levels this would be good but with a 75% aoe reduction this would be broken.

Just a quick reply on 75% AoE reduction:

Yes, that would be broken if it is to be implimented.

I do believe that some other suggestions make more sense. For instance, pets gain protection (is it part of the new trait already? lately I cannot keep up with mere suggestions or new info from the devs) or even aegis when the ranger is dodging. This make more sense because this game is designed to have the players actively avoid being damaged in order to win. If pets can be exempted from this rule, it will encourage rangers to be too way lazy in a fight.

How strong are Rangers?

Bearbow is not good in open world, there is always a better choice of pet but the LB makes short work of anything. A lot of mobs will be dead before your pet even gets to melee range.

That is reason why I always think increasing pet movement speed should be baseline instead of tieing to a specific trait, be it minor or otherwise. On trash mobs or regular open world mobs, I do not think my pets are helping much since I have already taken care of them before my pets get there. On tougher mobs, they take a bit too much beating to get the job done although it can be mitigated by keep swapping them before they die.
