Guides for ascended gear?

I myself for the time being is mainly saving up my gold and materials pending more information regarding HoT and the new specialisation for each classes. Stats and Sigil/Rune bonuses will have more impact on your character in the future, I would prefer to wait until we know more about how best to gear up a character first. I do not want to invest on ascended items that later prove to be not suitable or subpar on the character I love to play.

Beastmastery:

I would suggest putting back Pet Attributes bonus into the line. Perhaps it is to be done so by tieing the bonus with each of the Minor Traits.

Alternatively, something that I wish to see is to allow Sigil, Rune and/or pieces of armour be used in pets IF the Ranger is specialising into Beastmastery.

Whichever ways, pets should take a more prominent role for someone who is into the BM line.

Could we have a new F5 skill for pets as their “Elite” skill IF the ranger decide to go 6 on Beastmastery?

Something like IF the Grandmaster of the Beastmastery line is unlocked, a new F5 pet elite skill will be unlocked too. Such F5 skill can be damge, support, CC-oriented depending on the the specie of the pet.

Note that you have to keep track mentally of the cooldown of the aforementioned knockdown skill (It’s called Brutal Charge) as has a 40 second cool down and they didn’t do the best job in giving the player the information on tracking non-F2 pet skills.

That gives me an idea for a QoL improvement: Add the cooldown times on all pet’s skills.

Each pet have 4 skills, including F2. At the moment only the cooldown of F2 is showing. The cooldown of the other 3 skills should be showing too just to make swapping pets a more user-friendly tactical decision.

Instead of a grenade “kit”, how about a grenade launcher (for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhLxR9u4o4E)

It looks way cooler indeed!

That’s essentially what mortar is being turned into.

I got the impression that Mortar and/or Mortar F5 (?) will be much closer to an RPG instead, which fits better (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocket-propelled_grenade).

I still think a grenade launcher will work better as a new grenade kit both thematically and conceptually.

The new Bomb Kit needs to be a lot more stylish. Most people do point out that it looks awful. I do not think it needs to be held with two hands. The rubble-carrying animation does not look at all like it is in-combat.

In fact something that looks ok at level 1 does not translate well at level 80 when by then the character will very likely be wearing gears that look way more advanced and stylish. So the new kits design have to look good on a level 80 character instead. The proposed new kits are just too dull and crude. I hope they are just place holder for now.

There is no reason why it cannot be something smaller holding with one hand. Something bomb like with an obvious fuse on top would do nicely, I suppose.

By the Flamethrower does come with some sort of Hobo sack as well. Is it going to be replaced too?

Berserker Meta Discussion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Oh My God.8423

Oh My God.8423

IF killing is the end goal and the main purpose of a game play, then doing it fast and then even faster is the most straight forward and efficient way of achieving that purpose; and thus berserker (or in fact the underlining stats combo) is the natural choice of tool to do that. Player will of course instinctively use berserker gears. Berserker gears themselves have no problem existing in the game; killing fast CAN be a legitimate goal of a game. The current concern is mainly due to the environment upon which berserker gears are the rational and dominant choice in most situations.

Changing the berserker gears, or any other set of gears, will NOT improve the situation. The game platform itself has to allow OTHER play styles to have a role. That is to say killing is not the final solution.

Guild Wars 2 is fun because it does have game plays that do not solely revolve around killing the targets fast. But the domain of which is small and ultimately killing the targets IS still the final solution.

What I would therefore suggest is that leave the gears alone for now. Add more diversity to end game contents, focusing not on killing fast but on other aspects that are compatible the characteristics of all the different playable classes. Of course it has to be fun and rewarding too. But I am sure ANet understand that.

That should encourage players to diversify they build portfolio. What next is to make accessing those builds more easily and user-friendly. I would suggest having a “Build Template” feature whereby players can switch between builds, for instance between Berserker, Knight, Cleric, Sinister, …, at the click of a button instead of having to slot each piece one by one and remember where all those trait points go everytime switching is required.

So, in order words, introduce more “NOT-kill-them-all-fast-and-furious” based contents and make switching gears and trait much much more straight forward.

Cultural pet/minion/gadget skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Oh My God.8423

Oh My God.8423

I have this idea in my head since … launch, I guess. I used to play a Mesmer as my main for a long while. I still do but now I tend to spend more time with my alts. Mesmer’s illusions look unique; and you can tell when you are fighting next to or against one. Of couse, that is the whole point of the class. But when I compare other classes that use “companions” to do damage, I envy such “uniqueness” of the Mesmer’s illsions.

All Ranger’s pets look the same as the next Ranger’s pets; Necromancer’s minions as the next Nercromancer’s minions; and Engineer’s Gadget as the next Engineer’s Gadget. Some time in the heat of a battle, I cannot tell which wolf, drake, Fresh Golem Healing Turrent,… is mine. I know it will be a massive undertaking to have “unique” pets and minions made for every players. But how about a collection of skins? Like weapon skins and armour skins, which they can be applied to pets and minions and gadgets.

For example, a Norn Ranger may choose slightly bigger pets and give them Norn-style collars, ornaments, armours or war paints. So a set of, say, wolf, bear, cat and bird, cultural pet skins can be made for Norn specifically. The same logic can be applied for the other races. (further on Ranger’s pets: I always find it annoying that my trusty companions are forever “juvenile”. My Ranger has “matured” a lot since level 1 to 80; and the rarity of my armours changed from white to pink font colour. I would expect my pet to be the same after standing by my side for all this time. So having a “mature” look for them would indeed be much appreciated.)

As to Necromancer’s minions, since different race have different religion (or for the Asuran, a different worldview of magical energy), their view on death, access to dead things and thus necromancing should be different too. Their minions can be reflective of that.

I always imagine that all engineer must go to the same school learning how to make bombs, grenades, turrents, hobosacks, … the exact same way. Sometime I think, for example, a Sylvari may use more vegetation in their tools much like their cultural weapons or everyday objects in the Grove. So a Sylvarian Engineer turrents may look more like those “turrent plants” in the Caledon Forrest; and their bombs and grenades are more like exploding fruits or seeds.

I understand that these “Cultural skins” are a bit of a vainty items. I therefore do not mind them to be sold in the Germ Store. But I think having those skins would certainly add some personality to those otherwise standard, mundane and carbon-copy, yet frequently used and seen, objects.

Thanks!

Tempted to try Poison Master

I am tempted to try Poison Master just to experience it. I notice that in a group setting, poison does not very often stack to the max like bleeding and burning do. So there is a niche position to focus on poison there.

I think pet gains, say, about 1 – 1.5 second of evade on upon the ranger dodging should work. Pets may need a bit longer since on-location evade is not the same as dodge out of harms way. So a bit longer may be justified.

If the pet is being targeted, the quickest way to drop agro is to swap pet. The new pet will be spawn next to the ranger and the ranger can take over agro if necessary.

I think the trait Agility Training should be given automatically instead of having to spend a skill point.

Pets. I always have two suggestions regarding them:

1) allowing sigil and/or runes to be used on them;

2) having a more flexible split of damage output between the ranger and the pet, perhaps by way of traits. For example, a ranger can choose a 50:50 damage split or a 80:20 split depending on the ranger’s prefer play style. With a 50:50 split, a ranger can be a bit of a bunker and use the pets as a weapon. Whereas with a 80:20 split the ranger can be more of a dps-er whilst the pets take up a more supportive role. The overall damage output of the class remains the same. It just shifts the reliance and the dynamic of the ranger and the pets into a more flexible and useful ways.

Ascended Weapons - worth crafting?

Why ascended or legendary? Why not both? It’s not like you’re limited to choosing just one.

True. I suppose I will START with ascended first and take my time with the legendary.

I am not good at maths. May I ask: does it mean ascended weapons (for example holding a hammer, or holding both main and off hand) offer more increase in damage that a set of 6-piece ascended armour?

Yep there is. Its called full zerker meta Necro.

A player by your side that can pop the enemy you are fighting in 2 seconds is the best kind of support.

True. But not all enemy “pop” in 2 seconds. I am thinking along the line of “force multipler” type of support so that your team can all “pop” an enemy in 2 second.

Oh My God.8423

This has both a yes and a no answer. Yes, if you’re looking for a (relatively) inexpensive way to get the best stat weapons. No, if only about a 5% increase isn’t worth it to you. It is cheaper in both the long and short run to make ascended than legendary. If all you’re after is stats though, go for the ascended.

I agree with him, but I think 5% might be a little to big lol more like 2%… or 1.
anyways, I dont think ascended weapons are worth the effort and money, craft armors instead. full ascended armor and trinkets are enough to have max agony resist anyways.

Really!? That low an increase!

So basically ascended weapons are more of a vainity item than having any actually boost.

According to wiki, ascended armours only give 4-5% increase in stats. That said, yes, having agony resistance makes them a good investment after all.

Thanks!

New Ranger Pet

in Ranger

Posted by: Oh My God.8423

Oh My God.8423

Did anyone play Warhammer Online before? Their pet class was called White Lion. The pet, which was always a lion of course, did evolve as the character progressed. So you started off with a fluffy little lion and then by the time you got to max level the lion would be all armoured up, which looked matching to the character high-end armour.

In terms of appearance, Ranger’s pets are a bit dull after a while. They look the same from level 1 to level 80 and they stay “juvenile” forever. I would rather seen them grow and prehaps armour up or evolve into something suitable for the high-end contents. Also on a minor point, Norn’s pet could perhaps be slightly bigger since some of them look comically small standing next to a Norn.

By the way, while we are taking about pets, I suggested a while ago that: “… Since pets are effectively a weapon for rangers, how about allow sigils to be slotted onto the pets? Otherwise, how about allowing pets to wear armours, which in turns allow greater flexibility and diversity of the pets’ stat….” That is to say that I personally would like to see more work done to the existing pets instead of making new ones.
