Defiant and Unshakable. How do they work?

in Players Helping Players

Unshakable in itself reduces the effectiveness of Blind to 10% and reduces the duration of Weakness and Immobilise by 50%. Additionally, when the Champion mob is affected by Stun, Daze, Knockback, Knockdown or Pull it will gain X stacks of Defiant. The number of Defiant stacks is dependent on the number of players within a certain radius of the mob; it is default to 3 stacks for one player and scales up.

Defiant, in addition to Unshakable, will negate all sources of Stun, Daze, Knockback, Knockdown or Pull. For each of the above Crowd Control effect negated, one stack of Defiant is depleted, until zero at which point the Champion is susceptible to Crowd Control.

The purpose of these two buffs is to prevent Champion and higher level mobs from being steamrolled by the umpteen enemy players assaulting it with chain crowd control, thus forcing players to have to only use their Crowd Control effects only when they absolutely have to, e.g. interrupting a channeled attack. After applying Crowd Control, players will then have to work to deplete the Defiant stacks without needlessly going over the limit.

Nonono. These people above don’t know what they’re talking about.

The definitive way to get bags is going into the Black Lion Trading Post and buying all my (note emphasis) bags.

No idea what the other posters are talking about but Dynamic Events do scale in difficulty with the number of areas in the vicinity. I’ve done several events multiple times solo or with impromptu groups and have noticed the number of mobs increase/decrease appropriately.

The number of people milling about also depends on which server you are in and the times you are playing.

Finally, don’t forget that you can announce to the map about the Dynamic Event with /map. Most players who are nearby or have access to nearby Waypoints are typically eager to join because Dynamic Events are a good source of Experience, Coin, Karma and loot.

What about a few months from now and nobody is in the low level zones and someone gets a friend to get the game?

Why not go back to those zones and play with this theoretical friend of yours?

How are Dungeons meant to be played?

From the original post I will summarise your issues to the following two:

1) You are having trouble with the regular mobs of Ascalonian Catacombs

2) You seem to busy yourself keeping your team mates alive.

Now to address them:

1) The Ascalonian ghosts are best approached with a kill priority. As a rule of thumb

Ranger > Elementalist > Mesmer > Necromancer > others

Also, if everybody on the team is built like a glass cannon, then don’t expect people to survive.

2) You mention using a slew of crowd control to save team mates. I have 2 questions:

2a) What are your team mates doing to keep themselves alive?

2b) Are you interrupting the correct attacks or just their auto attacks?

  • If you venture into a location without any Points of Interest, Skill Points, Waypoints or Renown, chances are ArenaNet has hidden something interesting nearby, from amazing jumping puzzles, challenging enemies and usually a reward at the end. Explore, people!
  • The more people are within the vicinity of a Dynamic Event, the more difficult the Event will be, which usually means more enemies, hence more experience and loot. So don’t be shy about announcing to the map of the Event, e.g. /map Event near [Waypoint Whiskey]
  • Items with the tag “Salvage Item” are meant to be Salvaged for crafting materials with Salvage Kits.

My level 80 endgame thus far consists of

1) getting my face pwned in Ascalonian Catacombs Explorable (level 35+)
2) getting my face pwned in Cadaceus Manor Explorable (level 45+)
3) getting my face burnt to cinders by the Fire Elemental in Metrinca Provice (level 17)

There is a “Seed Pod Elevator” near the centre of the “ground floor” (i.e. the floor on the same level of the entrance to the Grove). It will prompt you to enter an instance, which is required for you to gain access to the Pale Tree.

[Bug] Instant Downed-state inside Mount Maelstrom

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Ojimaru.8970

When trying to get into the centre of Mount Maelstrom for the Megadestroyer mega-event, there is a section of the cave (near a red Asuran pillar) that instantly drops EVERYBODY to Downed State. Players are then forced to Revive and exploit the small window of invulnerability afforded by Determined to roll forwards.

Is this a bug or is there a trap all of us are missing.

[Tooltip] Guardian Virtues and Traits

The Guardian Virtues Trait line reduces the cooldown of Virtues by 1% per Trait point. However, unlike other cooldown reduction effects, the tooltip of the three Virtues do not reflect this bonus.
