Class Mechanic Suggestions aka Virtues
Virtue of Justice
The passive for this is just too weak to be of use. I suggest the passive on this get some kind of positive effect added on, such as chance to gain fury on 5th swing. the burn is too weak.
Before providing “suggestions”, first understand the mechanics of the Burn condition (and Condition Damage in general). The Burn Condition Damage is standard throughout all professions and augmented by the level of the character and the character’s Malice, e.g. at 80, all professions with 0 Malice able to apply Burn will deal 328 damage per second, plus 1 damage per second per 4 points of Malice.
As a comparison,
- Bleeding does 42.5 damage per second per stack plus 1 per 20 Malice,
- Poison does 80 damage per second plus 1 per 10 Malice, and
- Confusion does 65 damage per attack per stack plus 1 per 13 Malice
Hence you can see that Burning has the highest base damage and you only need to worry about keeping it running 100% of the fight.
Virtue of Justice
Passive: 328 Damage
Active: 1640 Damage
The passive of Virtue of Justice applies a 1-second Burn on activation, while the activation applies a 5-second Burn from each nearby ally (unsure if the 5-man cap on AoE applies). From this, one can surmise that the optimal time to activate the Virtue is directly after the passive proc, and ideally during a multi-hit animation such as Whirling Wrath or Zealot’s Defence. After that, depending on traits, equipment, etc, you may or may not need to activate the Virtue again and rely on the passive to maintain the Condition.
It’s a tooltip error or misleading tooltip. Symbol of Wrath does damage enemies standing inside it, but does so as regular pulsing damage, not through the Burn Condition.
You didn’t grant regeneration to your ally, the combo did.
So you are implying that Boons and Conditions caused by Combos do not benefit from stats such as Malice and Expertise?
Guild Wars 2 utilises skill queueing, i.e. hitting (default) keybinds 2 then 6 in rapid succession will cause your character to use skills #2 and #6 one after the other.
The cool-down will appear for like say 2-3 seconds be-for you can re-use it (considering it didn’t even work but then it may work/may not & do the previous 2-3 seconds)
Most, if not all, healing skills have a cast time. Hence by your description, you seem to be interrupting the skill or it is being interrupted by the enemy, causing a mandatory 3 second cooldown.
Warrior.
Elementalist.
Necromancer (Kind of, depends on how far you consider ‘ranged’)
Mesmer.
Engineer’s weapons are all ranged, they have no melee. (Some of their skills are close-range though, and they have kits)
The Ranger says “HellooOoooOOOOOoooo!”
In sticky situations I stagger the wells as needed to keep protection up as long as possible. And I do as many heals as I can to keep party up: Reaper’s Touch/Well of Blood/life transfer/heal out of death shroud/mark of blood on staff swap etc.
Just a quick note: Protection stacks in duration, so dropping all 4 Wells at a time will simply extend the duration of Protection.
now i ask myself, why spending 4.5h in a dungeon when i can farm CoF in 20-30 minutes?!
Because CoF tokens can’t be used for TA gear.
What I find is that Save Yourselves simply grants a bunch of boons to you, the conditions it draws from allies are rarely that big an issue, I’ve never taken onto myself more than I could handle when going around with my dungeon group, and when I’m solo, I basically only get boons, no conditions, so all the better for it.
- Enter Dynamic Event
- Lvl 82 Boss drops poison field
- Me feeling heroic
- “Save Yourselves!”
- Draws in 60 s Poison (i.e. max duration)
- Notices all condition removal on CD
- Oh kit—-
Have the group use stability, dps the knights down as soon as possible. I believe you can root them as well. Once you kill one leave them room and rest will reset and wait for timers to go again.
Question: How do you “leave [the] room” when the only entrance to the Nursery is by dropping down a 5-foot ledge?
While I agree with most of your points, I will defend two:
-Caithe isn’t around anywhere between 30 to 80 in your story besides The Vision, but I’m sure this goes for other race’s mentors as well. It was just a minor annoyance to me. I really wanted more interaction with her.
Just as much as you have your story, she has hers. If you haven’t realised, you will see her running between dungeons chasing down Destiny’s Edge and trying to do the impossible job of reuniting them.
-And finally, this isn’t completely Sylvari-related, but the main character of this story isn’t me. It is not my personal story after Claw Island. It’s Trahearne’s. He is the main character. I’m his sidekick. How can you call it your personal story when you’re simply watching someone else get all the glory while you do all the fighting?
“This is my story” does not mean “This is my story of how I single-handedly saved the world”. Yes, ArenaNet wrote us into the role of the – in your words – “sidekick”; that doesn’t make it less of a story, just a less vainglorious one. Further to say Treherne is sitting in Fort Trinity twiddling his thumbs is outright shortsighted. Yes, you’re out in the front lines taking down key targets, but at the same time other plans and sorties are being executed by Treherne behind the scenes. And hey, you are still glorified for your various deeds, if you haven’t noticed the cheering and “Thank yous”.
What I’m shooting for is to fill out my virtues line for Master of consecrations (although, if what I’m understanding from the burn mechanics, not entirely sure if it’s worth it), Supreme Justice, and especially, Permeating Wrath. The Honor tree was the other one I intended on filling out, not for any particular skills per se, but I really liked the health increase. Also Battle Presence is pretty nice. Then of course, 10 points into valor for defenders flame. I might end up swapping out the Honor tree for something else, but I’d really miss that extra health.
First of all, Master of Consecrations gives you two sources of burn, i.e. Purging Flames (initial application and with combo finishers) and Hallowed Ground (with combo finishers). Considering the maximum duration for Burn is 60 seconds, you may or may not be overdoing it, especially in a group fight.
Secondly, don’t worry too much about the Vitality you won’t get by not traiting into Honor; you can always compensate with your items.
If the front entrance is locked, there should be a crash site in the NE corner of the island with a raiding party. Trigger that event and they will escort you inside.
Actually now that you mention it, I ddi see the crash site… but no NPCs were there.
You do suffer from the conditions but if you’re not under direct fire you’ll survive them fine with the boons. No need to burn contemplation too unless you’re also being focused.
Actually “Save Yourselves!” and Contemplation of Purity was one of my favourite combos as it would get me increased duration or stacks of Boons.
Secondly, well, my blade disappears when sheathed, so I dunno which model you have.
Incidentally, somebody else posted a screenshot of the Warden Greatsword I also have:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/races/sylvari/Cultural-Weapons/first#post65979
As noted, it’s sheathed and the blade remains. Exactly which weapon did you say you have again?
Her name is Miyani, Zommoros’ (unofficial) keeper.
Spoilers within
There is an underwater tunnel around the isle guarded by Inquest Golems and lined the whole length with Inquest Turrets and some Golemites milling about to repair any damage. Once you’ve made your way through the gauntlet, there is a door and control panel. The control panel by default yields a NO ENTRY (or similar) message.
Swimming further East leads to a group of Whisper Agents hanging about on a shore. One of them will mention some decryption code and will direct you to the Champion Risen Giant that patrols between the two temples.
So far as I know killing the Champion Risen Giant only triggers a totally different event that leads to the assault on the Inquest Golem Factory.
The way I got the waypoint was by swimming below the surface NE of the Waypoint. You should be able to see an Inquest-filled room and the Waypoint behind a blue glass/barrier. By swimming into the glass/barrier, I managed to snag the Waypoint before being immediately teleported out to a beach with an Evacuate Bot nearby.
1. Due to the story quest revolving around Caledbolg [sp], we know Sylvari weapons come from the Pale Tree herself.
Just because the Mother Tree made Caledhbolg doesn’t mean she’s the Sylvari weapons manufacturer. You’re generalising an entire industry from a single point of reference.
2. When the weapon is put away, it has no blade. When it’s drawn, the blade appears.
Not sure what weapons you’re looking at, but my Warden’s Greatsword isn’t a Lightsaber; the blue translucent blade remains even when “sheathed”.
3. My theory of the consistency being diamond-like is that amber is not strong enough to make a good blade from, while diamond can be extremely sharp. However, diamond is also BRITTLE. It’s easily smashed apart.
Consider a typical scenario with a brittle blade that’s “easily smashed apart”. Take a moment and imagine how silly it would be to have a large piece of death in your hands that you can’t parry or block with. Cumbersome is the first word that comes to mind.
Krytan Explorer and similar count for “[Map Area] Discovered”, and has nothing to do with POIs, Skill Points, Hearts and Vistas. So even if you have “100% Complete” on a map, doesn’t mean you have discovered all the “unmarked” areas. My instinct says that you missed some caves here and there.
condition damage is balanced around the fact that it completely ignores toughness.
This is the reason why Condition Damage isn’t affected by +% damage.
I think you guys are missing my point. A shield is meant for blocking while a focus is not all that great in melee aside from the block anyway it feels unnatural, and honestly weapon builds should make sense so that people can actually choose what they want to do based on what makes sense not by what kinda works if you do it like this build shows up.
The shield should be used for what its vary existence implies front line fighting. I like you chose the guardian because it seemed like the best class for support however the current shield does not work in that you cant defend yourself which means you’ll be dead before you can protect others sure the Guardian is a good support class but it is also a close ranged fighter if it cant fulfill that role properly it cant succeed and it can fulfill its support role either. If you don’t give the guardian a shield block then in the end you will only be supporting the whole support exist only to support the group and should not be able to help himself at all mentality that makes people hate to play the support role so much right know.
So according to your rambling, the whole idea of Guardian Support revolves around the Shield being able to Block?
Really?
The main problem with Nightmare Court Knights and certain Hammer-wielding enemies is their lack of Cooldown and wind-up between their AOE Knockdowns. Melees will be spending the entire fight dodging, so much so that the only viable method is to kite them to death. But that method is only viable against one, at most two, enemies in a wide-open room, not the narrow Volatile Blossom-filled area of the Nursery.
It’s kind of a big deal because up until now, I’ve been going for a burn build with my Protector by filling out my honor and virtue trees, and putting 10 points into valor specifically for Defender’s flame, which will give me a100% chance to burn attackers when blocking. I figured if I get gear with vitality, toughness, and effect damage, I’ll be tough and put out good damage over time with burns. But, if there is no passive block, that means I’m only gaining 3 blocks every 40 seconds. 2 from my mace’s protectors strike and one from aegis. I’m not sure if that’s worth 10 points or not though. I’ll give it a shot and see how it works when I hit 80 I guess.
If you’re going to spec into Defender’s Flame, you might want to consider replacing the Shield with a a Focus for normal use. Keep in mind that the Shield of Absorption generated from the Shield, Resolute Healer trait and Shield of the Avenger has two distinct effects, i.e. it will knockback and interrupt enemies caught within the area of effect on activation, as well as Block all incoming projectiles for a duration. Basically for enemy archers/ranged projectile attackers with Rapid Fire-type attacks, the Shield of Absorption will trump any other sources of Block effects.
Hence, with the Focus’ Shield of Wrath (3 blocks), Aegis (1 block every 40s; 30s with traits; excluding activation), Protector’s Strike, Superior Rune of Smouldering (+10% Burning) and other Burning applications (e.g. through Virtue of Justice or Zealot’s Flame) you can pretty much keep Burning running for a long time. If you manage to type a Shield of Absorption right, you can also apply 5-9 applications of Burning on those pesky archers/Rangers/Thieves/Warriors.
Was expecting the forums to be full of insightful comments, but they don’t even get this right. Retaliation does not reflect a portion of damage. It does a base amount of damage depending on the person being struck’s power. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Retaliation
To be fair, during the earlier BWEs Retaliation reflected 50% of damaged received.
The fact that the Sword of Justice doesn’t scale with gear is actually a good thing, especially for builds that don’t focus on Power/Precision. Besides that the other three weapons provide Control and Support, plus Burning when traited.
Hammer love is already in the works!
Oh no… and I just bit the bullet and gave up on the weapon, spending my 63k Karma on a Warden Greatsword… Guess I now have my next Warden weapon planned then…
Reasons to play Sylvari:
1) Bioluminescence.
2) Their hair/eyebrows are leaves.
3) The total juxtaposition of a stereotype concept: an “sylvan/elvish” race that’s not quadgabilgillion years old and snooty, but one that’s young (25 years young!) and infinitely curious.
4) Bioluminescence.
5) Fear Not This Night is the default soundtrack of the Grove
6) Their dialogue (“The last straw was the turtle in the desert.” and “Will that Charr eat me? Is it vegetarian?”)
7) Bioluminescence.
So far I’ve been rather disappointed with the Sylvari Slot Skills, although I don’t have all of them.
Has anybody had any experience with the Fern Mastiff?
Legendary gear have the same level of stats as Exotic. As for “best”, that clearly depends on the stats you’re after.
Ok, I was watching the video in the game guide below on combat, and in there it stated that you could make your character do specific things, like “dodge” and “block”, and they specifically showed a character with a shield blocking. Now I know the character can roll, which will ignore damage from attacks (although not necessarily damage from environment). When I looked through the keybinds, I also saw the “dodge” command which I promptly keybinded, only to find out it really is just a roll backwards. But there was nothing there for blocking. Did they just decided to drop that out of the abilities you can command? I’ve noticed my protector blocking before, so is it just given a certain percentage chance that you will block an attack? If so, is this just a static percentage? or can you raise it with abilities stats like defense?
Blocks are only available from certain Weapons Skills and Boons.
With the forum fully opened, I’m a little confused regarding the role of the Players Helping Players forum. Each perceivable aspect of the game now has its own forum and people are starting to make (mostly) relevant posts there, including those seeking help from other players. Will the PhP guidelines be revised? Will it be turned into a newbie help centre, like that seen in the official WoW forums? Or will it be something else entirely?
Cheers
These are exactly the same frustrations I have with being a Sylvari. Sure, Shashoo and the quaggans I helped came to my rescue in Mirror, Mirror and Elli from the actual Caladbogh quest did remember my character, but the rest is absolutely unforgivable, given the caliber of the rest of the writing.
Whoops, I meant Skill. It’s the same with the Necromancer trait that triggers Spinal Shivers (Focus #5 ability) when an enemy’s health drops to 25% or below.
Right now it’s still bugging out, despite earlier patch notes.
As far as I know, only the most awesome profession in GW2 can solve this problem. Find an awesome person playing this profession (because only awesome people do), ask KINDLY for said awesome person to drop by with a Staff (or alternatively provide one; Masterwork or higher appreciated). The awesome person will then select the Line of Warding skill and position the targeting reticle such that the centre of the line (denoted by a shield and directional arrow) is DIRECTLY centred under the NPC.
What you will then expect to happen is to see the NPC’s position shift and it will then attempt to head back to its starting spot. Once you successfully complete the Skill Challenge, make sure to GRACIOUSLY thank the awesome person. Praise singing and tips welcome.
Have a nice day.
I suspect the PvP Instructor in the Heart of the Mists is considered a Heart quest.
It works even if you don’t have the necessary weapon equipped.
Blind Exposure is… terrible at the moment. As of now it applies 1 stack of Vulnerability (i.e. 1% increased damage) for 3 s base.
So consider the “best” case scenario > http://gw2skills.net/editor/en/?fUAQJAsNmIyeAAAAArCAs6BAqHAA;TgAqvMFJKy+l7L5XjEmJA
You’ll get roughly 1 stack of Vulnerability for roughly 5 seconds, for a whopping 3 stacks of Vulnerability (i.e. 3% increased damage) with Justice is Blind, Flashing Blade and Ray of Judgement.
In contrast a Necromancer with Axe/Focus can chalk up 15 stacks of Vulnerability without all the above necessity of Traits, equipment, etc.
Don’t get me wrong, Guardian Sword/Focus is still one of my favourite builds, but to assume any usefulness from Blind Exposure is folly.
Pulling one by one or separating them or Kiting while CCing them worked for my group
I wasn’t aware that you could separate them. Do you go after the one on the far left (as you drop down)?
Have either stability, some CC break or learn to dodge the skills. they have a build up animation and can be easily dodged once you learn it.
You can also interrupt it.
Sounds easy on paper. And against a single one of them. Problem arises when there are 3 dropping Hammer Shocks and Wells of Corruption (3k damage per tick) in a relatively small corridor.
And yes, the Well of Corruption they drop did prevent us from face tanking with Protection and Stability.
Can somebody clue me in on how to deal with the Nightmare Court Knights in Twilight Arbor (Story/Explorable)? As far as I can tell they have 3 AOE Knockdowns that deal 1.5k damage each hit in Explorable, back to back with zero cooldown. While we can deal with one, the moment two or worst, three plus the Count of Blood (3.6k ranged attack and regular 2k melee hits), they seem insurmountable.
Are we supposed to face tank with 100% uptime of Protection and Stability?
Siege Weapons , especially the upgraded ones from the Mystic Forge were never meant to be provided by individuals. With objective rewards rewarding about 1 silver per member, an organised guild can easily pool resources to buy Flame Rams, Trebutchets, etc.
On your own, yes it’s a waste of money.
First, what the thread title is totally misleading.
Secondly, the preview of the Sylvari Cultural Weapons is just as misleading. As I understand it, all the Sylvari Cultural Weapons have blue crystalline structures that are not rendered in the preview. I have yet to spot anybody with the Sylvari Staff, but I’ve just gotten myself the Greatsword.
If you still want a Sylvari look to your staff, you could also take a gander at Twilight Arbor weapons.
An Asura Guardian turning into a bear would be a bit silly now, wouldn’t it?
Sounds perfectly normal to me.
The first tier of Guardian Elites are pretty terrible, racial elites aside. I’ve tried using Tome of Wrath on multiple occasions, but without decent Condition Damage, it’s main attack only serves to draw aggro to you, thus getting you killed. The 9/9 patch has increased the health pool while in the state, but I remain an unbeliever.
Definitely take Renewed Focus as it’s the one Elite usable underwater (sadly).
Whatever the case, the only Elite worth getting is Tome of Courage for its 5-man full heal.
Since level 1 of headstart I had always wanted to build my Guardian to use the Hammer. However as I head into Orr, my opinion of the weapon has severely degraded. Unlike the Greatsword, Hammers have only 2 skills that are used often, while the rest are situational. Damage from Hammers pale in comparison to the Greatsword, yet I have found relying on Symbol of Protection’s Boon has led me to more trouble than it’s worth due to the frequency of movement in the game.
Has anybody had any worthwhile experience with using a Hammer as the main weapon during a dungeon or dynamic event?
Unshakable in itself reduces the effectiveness of Blind to 10% and reduces the duration of Weakness and Immobilise by 50%. Additionally, when the Champion mob is affected by Stun, Daze, Knockback, Knockdown or Pull it will gain X stacks of Defiant. The number of Defiant stacks is dependent on the number of players within a certain radius of the mob; it is default to 3 stacks for one player and scales up.
Defiant, in addition to Unshakable, will negate all sources of Stun, Daze, Knockback, Knockdown or Pull. For each of the above Crowd Control effect negated, one stack of Defiant is depleted, until zero at which point the Champion is susceptible to Crowd Control.
The purpose of these two buffs is to prevent Champion and higher level mobs from being steamrolled by the umpteen enemy players assaulting it with chain crowd control, thus forcing players to have to only use their Crowd Control effects only when they absolutely have to, e.g. interrupting a channeled attack. After applying Crowd Control, players will then have to work to deplete the Defiant stacks without needlessly going over the limit.
THIS needs to be on the wiki. How did you find out about the number of stacks?
Live testing. I have (attempted) soloing some Champion mobs and noticed the 3 stacks after knocking it back. In dungeons, bosses gain 5 stacks of Defiant, then during massive boss fights such as the Megadestroyer in Mount Maelstrom or Centaur High Shaman in Arathi Highlands gain over 20+ stacks due to the zerg.
I am now actually curious to try out Mesmers’ Moa Morph on Champions… 10 seconds is an awesomely long time…
You can also combine 4 dyes of the same rarity at the Mystic Forge
Ever since the opening of the Trading Post, my friend has begun accumulating his wealth through trading.
Can you guess what he does in real life? >.>
What’s the point of levelling up if everything you do demotes you to a lower level? I got destroyed on a quest and figured I’d level up a bit to help me out but it demotes me back down again… They might as well take out levelling up and just give you the level they want you to play at for every mission and event…
Your point is valid when they still allowed players to upscale in level, i.e. have their levels brought up if they entered a higher level zone. However, ArenaNet has made the correct decision to remove the feature but keep the downscaling of levels.
The main purpose of the downscaling is to allow for players to play with their friends. If you got into this game with a group of friends but some play more, some less, or if another friend decides at a later date to pick up the game, there will definitely be a level gap. When this gap exists, as it normally does in traditional MMOs, the higher level players will traditionally have to
a) not play with their friends,
b) limit their own play to allow their friends to catch up, or
c) make a new character.
None of these choices are ever desirable, especially for the higher level player.
With the downscaling of Guild Wars 2, a level 80 with full Exotics can still drop into Queensdale to play with her level 1 buddy and not be bored: mobs won’t be one-shotted, Elite and Champion mobs will still be challenging and the Dynamic Events will still be fun.
So you ask why have levels at all? Because character level progression is still a great way to pace a player’s journey through Tyria. If you allowed everybody to skip Queensdale and head straight into Orr, nobody would ever appreciate any of the content. What’s all this hullabaloo about Zhai-wothisname? Which owl of a fool named a kingdom Orz? What, all the back story can be found in Queensdale and its surrounding? Sod that. /uninstall
