GREETINGS, CITIZENS. I originally planned to make a massive post where I displayed arenanets absolutely awful form of transparency, game issues, questionable design choices and a ton of other things. But this has been done before (and better), mainly by Follidus. If you have not already, read his post here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/The-possibility-of-an-outreach-program/first

You could also read arenanets response to see what part of the game suffers from now.

ANYWAY, the point of my thread is something different, I’m going to mention all the aspiring teams and players that have quit the game (and why) that I can think OFF THE TOP OFF MY HEAD. I can’t guarantee that all of these players left specifically because of the reasons I mention, but I can say that the vast majority of them have, and the rest left at least partially because of them.

TEAMS:
Team Pika:
The team followed the usual process. One player left another player got an invite from a team (dislocation to no scrub iirc) and since this game has no potential for a solo player to be competitive the three other players in the team, meaning that the three other players had to abandon the game and go back to WoW after some time of trying to find a team.

Solution that would have kept them in game: SoloQ

Team Synthetic Gods/Myrevenge
This team followed almost exactly the same formula as above. The team became far less active due to disgruntlement because they had absolutely no info on esport at all aside from a pathetic blog post which took months to come out on. When the team dropped in activity and efficiency because of this one player left, two of the players n the team tried to find a new one but they were unable to and guess what? Lack of soloQ? No official ratings? Good luck making yourself known out there to other good teams!

Solution: soloQ and transparency

Team FT:
This teams disappearance was rather recent. These were players that had been playing for as long as I. They eventually quit because they assumed arenanets stance on actually telling us what the hell is happening was arenanet not caring.

Team SuperSquad:
Surely you’ve heard of these, yes arenanet? Same story as the one with myrevenge. There were members that were not as committed due to how the game was going. With the lack of proper ladder there is no real goal and there is nothing that kept the team to stay competitive. Two of the members joined another team (guess which!) and one quit the game due to not believing arenanet any more on their esport claims. The other two were unable to find a team. And yet AGAIN, I want to repeat this point: If you don’t have a team then you CANNOT play the game competitively. Your silly idea of a soloQ is not going to change that. And as long as you don’t announce that you’re going to make a proper solo q people that are unable to find a team will CONTINUE TO LEAVE!

Solution: Transparency that would keep them motivated (they’ve been dedicated to this game since beta), a solo q (are you starting to see a pattern?)

Team legacy:
Another previous big name. They, too, lost faith in arenanet with their claim that they’d make this an esport. They believed it was just a lie to make the sales increase.

The thing that really worries me is that ‘’not yet ready’’ might mean anything. It could mean we’ll get it sneakpatched in a week or that it might be similiar to QPs. I mean, when were QPs added? 3-4 months ago? ‘’This method of displaying the QP’s is temporary until the full system comes online.’’

Well, tetris does indeed have very good music.

@tyler; your transparency is frankly disgusting. How could you possibly say you’ve reached a decent balance between transparency and ‘’free developer will’’ when you sneak in MASSIVE changes to the game without giving us any clue?

The utility/weaponswap stuff, I remember our team being stuck on horrible weapon sets (guardian with hammer on legacy because he intended to stack might before we entered mid point for example) and having absolutely no clue why.
You guys sneaking in the matchmaking instead of announcing it made a ton of teams go inactive (like oni, for example) because they had no clue about you guys actually implementing mmr and got bored of the first day with temple when they did nothing but stomp random pugs.

If a game loses momentum early on it becomes increasingly difficult for them to get their playerbase back.

GW2 sPvP lost its momentum roughly 3-4 months ago. A lot of people have quit or barely play. I myself have moved on to greener pastures and log an equivalent 10 minutes of GW2 time a day, maybe less.

ArenaNet should take notes from Nadeo and their ShootMania series for how they developed the game with competitiveness in mind and decided to not release the game until every piece of the puzzle had been completed.

TLDR:
Low population (lets just say 2,500 and be generous, across all countries).
Little amount of playable modes.
No legitimate ranking system besides time invested.
Lack of variety in class mechanics.

= game on its last legs. I just want people to admit it so we can get past the rose tinted glasses.

I think alot would agree; however the pvp is still some of the best out there. The shame of it all will be that this game will never realize its potential.

Personally, I consider the PvP to the bottom rank among the top tier.

GW2 is to Captain Falcon of SSBM.

I like where things are going then!

@med you’re actually correct, didnt notice I got hit by the c&d untill I rewatched it!

My solution of just dazing before the distortion end would still counter this!

Some people took this as me saying I wanted the thief nerfed which was not the point I wanted to make. The other thing was that I was only oneshot (12k+2,5k sigil) because of this build

Legit!

The distortion was actually not a mishap. I could still have survived by doing diversion when my distort was about to tick out and then blurred frenzy, so hell, the distortion was good, the follow up was not.

I could also have started off with staff instead and started with chaos armor. This burst is by no means ’’uncounterable’’ and I didnt make this thread to complain about balance, especially not vs this thief build which lacks haste, won’t oneshot in the usual cases (it only did because he got a fire sigil proc which crit for 2500), can’t shortbow for kitten and aside from this one burst is worthless!

Mesmer can more or less do this too. If you run 30 duel, get mantra heal+mantra utilities (just about as viable as the double signet thief) you can also run around and oneshot people.

I hope this clears up some of the confusion for the lesser informed people (though I expected someone with 1750 worth of qp experience to have a decent idea of what was going on, I guess I overestimated you like I normally do, naito!)

I should add though that the thief played using a build that is poor in proper 5v5s, he requires a trait which gives him might with signets and he has to go double signets, so it’s not really op. Buuuuuuuut.

I actually agree with this post. It’s far harder for me to spot and daze the heals of my opponent when they’re asuran when compared to let’s say human. Animations are far harder to spot and it’s easier for things to become a mess.

All I can say is; good luck dazing heals (or doing any other form of reactionary forms of skilled play) on temple of the silent storm gate in a teamfight with all the opponents being asuras. It’s a complete mess and makes it more worthwhile to spam your interupts when your opponent is relatively low instead of trying to react quickly to what they do.

I’m fine with the idea of ele forcing a 2v1 on our close, that’s the way the game has been for a long time and ele isnt the only class that can force it (ranger is another example)

The problem is that the eles don’t even die 2v1. They get auto armor of earth (giving them about a second to react to our burst which is easy to do if they expect it, and considering that it’s the only counter in the standard setup they DO expect it if they’re decent) mist+rtl away and instantly going full hp, making us accept a concession (2v1ing our close, possibly blowing portal) in exchange for absolutely no return. If a dd valk ele comes we can actually sync a burst using diversion for 25 vunerablity stacks, thief burst and mindwrack in a coordinated 321spike to instantly kill him without him being able to react in time (or at the very least, making it extremely difficult for him to!)

What would I mainly want to hit? There are some minor things but specificly both rtl cd and pushing up the armor of earth at 50% trait to require more points than the silly 10 point amount.

No matter how we attempt to counter it it always ends up as a concession on our part somehow (example; I go phantasmal with glamour recharge, my point is safe but our teamfighting will be much worse)

Bunker eles are atm absolutely insane and are more or less impossible to counter.

What do I mean with impossible to counter you might ask while raising the point that some ranger builds, a phantasmal build and one engi build could actually beat the bunker ele in 90 seconds

here is the deal: if a bunkerele pushes farpoint atm there is not a single viable counter to it once he gets the decap (and he will get a decap at some point in the game)
you can chase him off, sure, a mesmer and thief will easily force him to back off, double pistol engi can force him to leave after a while etc but here is the problem:

That ele never dies if he is half decent.

He’ll just escape away and either stand in the nearby vicinity of the point where nobody can catch and kill him or rotate back to mid and push far a the next given oppertunity, which is easy as hell considering rtl+blink.

Ele far gives an EXTREME amount of pressure, has absolutely NO form of punishment (as opposed to a dd damage ele, they DIE for the tradeoff of forcing two dpsers from mid to close+decap, the same applies to just about any class. This tankele is the only class that has almost no chance of dying) and is insanely easy to play. If the ele has the 50% hp armor of earth trait up there really is no effective way to spike him down (which would be the only way to kill him) because he’ll get protection that’ll block part of the thief burst, making the burst extremely easy to mist.

Bunker ele is absolutely kitten atm and dominates this meta to a disgusting degree. Anyone who disagrees has simply not played pvp at a decent level to discover this.

It IS a matter of right versus wrong. It is theoretically impossible to be a competitive solo player in this format, and people playing full premade 5vs5 competitively is such a small minority that catering to them and leaving soloers behind is an awful system.

If you’re saying that the only reason you’re sticking to this inferior system is because you have not developed the separation and that you’ll do it in the future FOR SURE then it’s all good. If you’re even attempting to argue that this system is better right now (or in any state) than a separated que then you’re insanely mistaken. Do you want me to try to get a petition ready for all the thousands of players that would return to the game if you added a soloq instead of this?

Let me make this very clear:

If you go through EVERY team you can find you’re going to see that everyone will be okay with the idea of ‘’longer que times’’ if it means we will no longer face pugs in RANKED matches. We will be completely OK with it, it’s not fun OR good practice to get assigned with weaker brackets of 3/4players+pug instead of matching TP once they finish the current game they’re in.

So, teams will be okay with it. What’s left? The soloers and the players that don’t have a team.

I could make you a list so large that you’d think it would be fake of all the players I personally know who quit solely because they didn’t have a team and couldn’t get into any teams either because they never got to prove themselves (since the ONLY way you can be competitive is 5v5)

You can’t say that this silly system will be a chance for them to prove themselves, either. It’s absolutely impossible to carry yourselves to the higher ranks alone. Saying anything else will show complete lack of understanding of the game.

So the problems remain from before. The teams and top 1% are getting catered to when you’re supposed to focus on the casuals/solo competitive players.

I’ll end it with this:

Had league of legends had its normal game mmr in ranked (the system you guys want to implement) then I would NEVER have even attempted to play that game on a serious level. Because it DID have a soloq I spent over a year on the game. Without said soloq it would not have been longer than a month or two max.

If I was not committed to this game in the way that I am right now then I would have most likely not been able to get into the team that I was now, and if I never would have gotten a strong team (very high chance that I wouldn’t) then I would have quit a long time ago, just like all the other players who quit, not because the game is lacking but because the structure of it is.

It’ll be absolutely impossible to truly be competitive as a solo player in such a ladder. Eventually you’ll hit to the point of ranks where only people who play in a coordinated team can win.

There really is nothing that favors this system over a system like lets say in league of legends (where you can max que with one friend)

The only argument is ‘’avoiding splitting the full premade with soloers’’ but that is a split which SHOULD happen. Premades SHOULDNT be playing with soloers

This actually hurts sponsored teams a lot. We have Curse backing us up, but it was extremely tricky for us to actually ‘’prove our worth’’ to them in order to attain our sponsorship. We had to provide stream vods and screenshots of us beating the top teams, who we in turn had to provide screenshots and vods of them beating other teams and a huge mess based around that just to attain our sponsorship.

If we could prove ourselves further to Curse by being dominant in the ladder they’d be able to invest in us more as a team but with the game being as it is we can’t really show them how we are doing.

If you watched the recent state of the game you might have noticed that the devs said that they had planned to go back to the 8v8 tournament system but scrapped it because of the massive feedback in favor of 1v1.

Further, the devs didnt want to add proper soloq in the game, forcing soloers to match versus full teams with randoms, saying that ‘’if you cant carry in this scenario you arent worthy of your rating’’

I could make a huge wall of text explaining how this is stupid on every level, but I wont. I’ll just ask the pvpers of Guild Wars 2:

Do you want soloq instead of hotjoin?
Do you want soloq?

(the form of soloq I mean is a rated match where you can only pull in one friend max)

If you do, MAKE IT KNOWN! Don’t just rant about it in teamspeak with your friend, keep threads about it alive, make new threads about it.

Make it something that they cant ignore.

I decided to take a free year for myself before heading into university with an attempt to do something esports related. I picked this game because it was advertised as an esport game.

You might not take esport seriously, that’s alright and it’s completely in your right. There are also people that don’t take chess seriously, that doesn’t stop the world from having competitive chess players, tournaments with books on how to improve etc etc.

I don’t see the point on berating or belittling people that have other views than you do though.

why dont you play a game that’s already established as an esport rather than trying to be good at a game with no population or competition?

I have a feeling the desperate ones like satar and follidus and those guys just couldn’t cut in games with true skill rankings and massive populations so they come here beat the 5 competitive teama that still play and think they are good and that if this game blew up they would have some advantage lol.

this game will never be an esport so why are you still here if you only have a year?

I’m not in a desperate position nor have I lost faith in arenanet. If I didnt think think that this game would have a shot at esports I would have abandoned it, just like your recommendation.

I picked gw2 because I played gw1 when I was younger and remember that it used to have all the esports features required, I assumed they’d deliver in the same way for gw2 (which they still have a chance to do )

Me and many, many other players are playing it not because of how good we think the game currently is but how good it would be WITH the things you listed, we are waiting for arenanet to deliver.

If arenanet made a post saying they were satisfied with this game designwise and would only balance pvp with patches and not add stuff like replay spectator ladder monthlies real tournies then many players would have left long ago.

The game will be amazing in the future, hopefully it’ll be in the near future c:

I have distortion and two of my utilities on my mouse.

I’d like to repeat the notion that we should have random maps rather than just one map for a week. There are some cheesy compositions that require much less mechanical ability and coordination to play that are insanely dominant on a map such as temple of the silent storm (tripple ele, I’m looking at you.) while it would be absolutely crushed on foefire and forest. I’m not against cheese, it’s part of the game. But if you were playing sc2 would you want to face nothing but 6pool every game?

Man, you were playing in hot-join, 100% with new players judging by their armor. Considering the fact that most of them don’t even know how to dodge, and certainly not to interrupt your combo, I wouldn’t brag about warriors being viable.

Try and play against organized teams, you’d get demolished if you think this shows any kind of warrior viability.

Dueled a warrior in WvW (I know this is pvp) BUT this guy ran Sword/Shield GS combo and he was a beast. I’m sorry I think warriors are fine.

I like the class. I tried the other classes. Warrior is my favorite because the other ones are too cheese for me. All kinds of weird tactics that i’m not into. I’m really straight forward, that’s why I play a warrior, not because I think it’s strong. I make it strong by putting in 10x the effort of other players who think their classes are hard to play

We run warrior because we find it strong. Fredz has a very strong necro but we play warrior because the warrior is a viable option.

The only map when the necro is a much stronger pick than warrior is on kyhlo.

Regardless, even if it is overpowered, that’s not what you’re calling it. You’re calling it an exploit. Anet is fully aware of the fact that you can portalcap the points and it was with intention left there. This is thus not an exploit. An exploit is something like you teleporting through the lord gates using a teleport and then killing the lord without even touching the gates, not planned or intended by anet at all. See the difference?

This is known about and intended. It is also completely counterable. The mesmer only has one distortion and he will be vunerable two times. Once before he ports away and once right when he gets back. The distortion does not guarantee a cap.

well scriming in free sure we can do that aswell as helseth said BUT i want to test Temple map vs good teams ?! and thasts just not possible.

So basically everyone who Try 1v1 paid tourneys and made/random teams who just want to have fun should stay away from 1v1 paid tourney Cause You need to play agains good teams?

First of all instead of crying around that You meet bad teams and You stomp them You should rather create a post asking Anet to make rating system.

For exmaple total ranks added up devided by 5. Or ranks by QP’s.
That will let You play vs Your dream “good teams”

Also You should remember that You werent “pro” always. Theres a good quote about it but im not going to look for it.

In simple way you were at some point in Your GW2 “pvp” career where You were complete as You said “noob”.

And it makes me think. Instead of actually stomping those teams ( 500-0 ) and then coming and Crying around that You beat them, You could give them some advice on how to play or increase thier skill. In long run it would also make Your game better because You would meet better teams.

Buy hey Your total " Pro " You don’t talk with " noobs " as You called them.

Also Let’s not forget that this pvp have nothing to do with having fun.
Seriously watching constantly 2 bunker dnd Ele’s and guardian bunkers + 2 random dps poping Out each match is getting booring.

Im pretty sure that IF eles werent in thier state most of You so called “Pros” would roll bunker guards or bunker ranger builds.

Most of those “top” teams are top because of just simply op composition of classes in that team.

Same thing happened to WoW 5v5/3v3 Arena matches.
After each patch those so called “pros” who had each class brought to 80+ jsut switched to what was most op at the moment and created teams of most op classes.

Thats why top teams usualy had Shamans healer + Warlocks on Dots+mass fear and random dps ( which is almost 90% cases ) was Retri pala or frost mage.

So top tier ranking was made of 3-4 classes out of 10.

Now when mists are out and most of balancing is done facts are repeated. Top teams run most op Classes and switch them after each patch just to stay on top.

Same thing happened to GW2. Ele no matter what build actually stays totaly OP. Just grab dnd, get some toughness and spam skills ( I know that eles are on of hardest classes to master but thier abilities and boons and overall healing + surv is at this moment on top of everything. ). Same goes to bunker guard. You don’t need lots of skill to play one ( it’s probably easiest class to play due to second best amount of healing (after ele )).

Don’t get me wrong. But when You say Good team vs GOod team In my eyes it just looks like this :
team 1 ( 2 eles / guardian / and necro or ranger or thief or warr ) vs team 2 ( same composition ).

How much of different tactics ( that You claimed You can’t try out ) You want to try vs same builds/teams/classes.

This game is to simple when it comes to Tpvp. hols 2 points at all cost and if enemy team get somehow killed ( 2-4 players ) try to spawn lock then while keeping guardian/ele on 2 points and 1 ele running around from points to keep better def.

This game leaves You no tactics at all.

Tactic wise WoW was much better. And don’t try to tell me that GW2 is not WoW.
GW2 tries to compete with WoW. So it’s most common sense to compare both of these.

It’s just sad that after so many failures and mistakes made by other companies when it comes to pve&pvp still new MMo’s that come out after 2012 Just copy&paste same mistakes all around.

Best examples = AIon. One of better mmo’s out there fairly balanced. From pay to play gone f2p after 2 years. Swotr after probably 1 year gone to f2p model from p2p same mistakes. Now even TERA after barely 2-3 months in EU goes F2P cause noone want to play and pay for a game that repeats same mistakes all over again.

Wanna know why Blizzard keeps thier playerbase at 10 mln + ? because they actually read forums and fix classes/ make balance changes even hours after patch.

First thing that Anet should think of before Thinking of Tournaments (no matter free or paid or even hotjoins – in which theres alos lot imabalnce cause sometimes 1 team gets all 30-50+ rank player while second get all under 10th rank ) was implementing Rank system. But instead of that they though about Ticket system. Top teams farming free tournament groups ( in same way making new player Quit Spvp/Tpvp because they get stomped cause they can’t compete with teams on same skill level ) to get 5 tickets and then go to Paid tournament.

It’s sad system and should be redesigned 4 months Ago.

The fix our team is doing is that we are sync joining together with other top teams in free tournaments.

It’s pretty tragic that we have to go and do such drastic measures (going on ts with other team, counting down+joining a free tournament together, stomping two free pugs to have one acceptable game.

Still, that’s the fix that we have, hit me up in game and let me know what team you’re in and I’ll see if I can get you into the ques.

On the positive side of this change, we can see that paids have a huge boost in activity. They literally pop 24/7. If arenanet now just implements matchmaking for full premades+soloq rating with this 1v1 system with all the maps the pvp of Guild Wars 2 would start breathing.

Tldr; It sucks for the top players at the moment but don’t scrap the 1v1 tournaments for that reason, arenanet. Just enhance it so that good teams can meet good teams!

hiyooo…. not sure if this is serious, but how about making key-binding character-specific instead of account? I don’t want to change key-binding every time I switch to a different profession.

+1, one of the main reasons I’ve more or less only played Mesmer is because my binds are entierly made for the shatter spec and they don’t work for any other class and I cba switching them around constantly.
