The burst of Mesmer is mirror image and mindwrack. In my case that’s mouse4 and f1 at the exact same time, it’s even easier.

Playing a thief during a competitive game is much harder than playing a bunker ele. End of story. And it’s MILES in difference.
There are tankeles that are by every single sense of the word worthless in terms of skill in the top circuit that don’t know how to play the game, they don’t call a single thing during teamfights, make stupid choices. Some do NOTHING but push far all game. Despite this they pose an immense threat. Take a thief of equal caliber and we have a freewin on our hands.

backstab is a million times harder to play than a bunker ele in competitive play.
I think one of the most amusing things on these forums is watching these horrible hotjoiner eles trying to convince top players that they’re bad because said top players are calling eles overpowered.
The class is absolutely disgusting and does not require massive skill to be extremely powerful. All it needs is the right build.
You can be a r30 bunker ele with little to no real experience and still pose an absurd threat to the enemy team by just pushing their close.

Yeah, that’s because you have the wrong build. Eles wont ‘’instantly die’‘, even when they’re up vs a thief, a mesmer and a warrior from stealth burst together with the correct build. They’ll be able to rtl+blink back to mid, reset their health and push close again whenever they feel like it.
Trash class that makes pvp a chore to play.
Phase retreat, while insanely op, especially since you can port to highground and through walls at many areas is nothing compared to blurred frenzy and illusionary leap. We should hit them too, in this case.
After that, what will mesmer be left with?
Their option is correct in this case. Fix the absolutely awful kitten first, see if the meta balances out after they’ve done that. If it doesnt they need to fix the stuff that stands out too much after that.
Their approach is very sound. The speed that they do these changes, however, is frankly disgusting.
The one positive thing I could take from SOTG was that arenanet said that hotjoin will be abolished and replaced with custom arenas, superb.
However, you guys mentioned that you also had no plan of reintroducing gems into the pvp system. I suppose this is acceptable BUT;
What about custom arenas? Will they still cost gems or are you removing that idea too?
Will the pvp population seriously have to start coughing up cash if they wish to 1v1? The current method of 1v1 is a sad workaround method where you join the same hotjoin and duel until hotjoiners zerg your server and ruin your duels, but at least it’s an actual method to be able to 1v1. The idea that new players would ONLY be able to go to tournaments and never being able to 1v1 their friends without paying cash seems… Unimaginable to me.
Warrior is an okay choice for top tier play if you have an healer ele (tank) to support him during the teamfights.
To the bads that keep whining about the thought about mesmer being buffed:
They’re buffing the useless skills/weapons for Mesmer. This means that if they nerf the 20/20/0/0/30 shatter with illu mirror and portal Mesmer will have something to fall back on. If they would nerf Mesmer as it is now the class would just be ruined.
Why on earth would you cry about them buffing scepter? More options is a good thing.
It is honestly completely heartbreaking to see that the devs have so little understanding of how the game works.
There are no healers? EU has been running tankele with the role as a healer (it is by every single sense of the word a healer in teamfights) for months.

Anet Does hotfix; Remember when mesmers got infinite stealth ? Fixed 2 days after the patch, with removal of Blast finishers, and even now the blast finisher* is inferior to other blast finishers.
Mesmers had infinite stealth for months. I was able to do it back during november.
fun fact; I can think of GAMES that I’ve won solely because in a desperate situation I’ve been able to pull off a stomp that would have been stopped but I manage to get the random aegis proc of chaos storm right before the necromancers fear or the guardians knockback hit me. One game in particular where two in my team were downed, one who was about to get finished once my stomp would have failed.
I can think of another game where we had an easily won 2v2 with one enemy downed, one ally downed, me casting illusion of life on my ally before he was about to get stomped and then getting dazed by a chaos storm MID CAST that lost us the fight and the point.
It feels amazing when these things happen but I would not call it ideal, lol.
Then again, there are other esports that have done just fine with rng.

Most classes in fact dont stack well. Ranger, ele, and suprisingly engy stack fairly well.

Paradigm tried to run double mesmer in various different forms for a while. We’ve beaten them every single game when they tried running this (around 7-0).
How? We just forced teamfights wherever their 2nd mesmer was. Lost mid? Aw, that sucks.
Danto, bunker close. We are going to go 4 far and get a freewin on their sidepoint where they’ll have to fight with double mesmer. Worked every single time.
A little while later paradigm dropped their 2x mesmer and made symbolic go necromancer.
@dolan; What comp exactly does not have aoe? Again, I’m talking about half decent level play here. Every single composition I can think of in the game has plenty of aoe because that is how the game works.
…Unless you’re running something like 5 shortbow rangers without the piercing arrows trait. And in that case 2x mesmer is the least of your problems.

Double mesmer is annoying to face? W a T? The clones melt to your aoe during the teamfights and the mesmers end up being easy targets. If you’re aware of the mesmers distortion (he has two.) and communicate with your team (or solo spike for that matter, they are glass canons after all) for a spike once his defensive cooldowns are up you’ll be able to bring him down right away. Is that unsatisfying play?

People who say the matchmaking system is in are either not playing or our team is just messed up. Our team consists out of rank 30 – 40 (at least 4 out of 5 players that is).
Now, yesterday in a 3 round tournament for we faced the first round against a team of rank 1 – 15 and won 500-0. The matchmaking rating doesn’t work with ranks but there is nothing else to relate to. Anyhow, the second round we faced Team Curse and got absolutely stomped 500-85, now it was cool to play against team curse but the fact that they put a complete noob team + a average team + a pro team in the same tournament shows that the matchmaking is either not in the game or just simple not functioning at all. This is just a single example but if you play a few hours a day you will notice that 9/10 matches you either stomp or get stomped. If this is because of a bad matchmaking system or because of the nature of PvP in Guild Wars 2 I don’t know. One thing is for sure though, that 1 match in 10 games that is close, feels great and shows the potential for a very competitive game with a strong e-sport scene.

To be fair, Curse does not really have a high matchmaking at the moment. Ever since arenanet reset the mmr and essentially threw away our efforts of being #1 without even announcing that they were going to we’ve lost all sorts of incentive to play, especially now that all of the teams that can reliably compete with us has either quit or is on a hiatus. That one day we’ve met (I’m assuming it was two days ago) was the first time Crs played together in what must be over a week. Further, we’ve trolled around in soloque/pugs, not really cared about the mmr.
It sucks but a lot of pugs/lower teams are going to face us because of this. But until arenanet actually solidifies the current rating that we current have we aren’t going to seriously invest the typical 7h/day into practicing together and maintaining a 99% winratio.
There is mmr though, I can more or less guarantee that.
Because hotjoin is simply boring. I often enter it just to test a new bind or to practice phase retreating into certain highground spots. Once I’m done with that, I leave.
Sometimes, I attempt playing hotjoin. I havent played more than one and a half full matches since beta, though.
1. make ratings visible
2. make private testing servers public
3. talk about how they need to start hotfixing broken crap more.
example: the torch perma invis bs has been out here for months and only recently got fixed.

4) You can activate pet skills when you’re downed, one of the pets f2 has a fear. The reason why you have not encountered this in wvwvw is either because you have not found rangers aware of this mechanic or that other pets are more useful in wvwvw.

Paid tournaments previously demonstrated that you guys have the ’’feature’’ in place to force someone to be 5 premade players to que in to the match. You also now have a ‘’join solo’’ button.
If you piece these pieces together you get:
1.Make one tournament que ‘’join solo’’ only, 1 round
2. Make the other que ‘’submit roster’’ with 5 only , 1 roundLE VOILA!
It’s okay, we can scrap the idea of duoq for now. Put that in your ’’soon’’ basket. You can do the same for the random map generator, just keep rotating maps manually the way you guys do every 2 days or something.There. That is the solution that will allow solo players to play the game without getting stomped by teams.
So in this suggestion, people would only play as a team of 5 or by themselves. That would mean effectively disabling tournaments for people who want to play tournaments with a friend. Or two friends, or three friends, but don’t have a full team. I can’t imagine that would go over very well either.
Of course it isn’t ideal, you guys dropped the ball on that half a year ago when you decided to instead of having a proper and normal system you wanted to go all hipster on us with your paid tournaments. But at least this way people will be able to be COMPETITIVE in the game without needing a team.
I mean the ideal scenario would be this:
1. One casual que, invisible elo at most where you could invite any number of people with the mmr you guys have, essentially the que you guys currently play with.
2.. one rated solo que, visible rating where you could max invite one person with only people matching here
3. one rated team que, team only. Preferably the team has their own rating based on the teams actual achievements.
You know, like a proper system is supposed to be.
But the system I suggested will bring back HUNDREDS of players. I’ve been here since beta and I’ve been in the competitive scene since release. If you knew all the players I knew that quit because they couldn’t tryhard one bit because they didn’t have a team then you would have INSTANTLY made this change. It’ll be good enough, it’ll show that you guys are taking the steps required to making this game good. It’ll also restore the faith of countless players that will actually see you guys admitting that you’ve done a mistake (because that’s exactly what you’ve done with both this soloq and paid tournies) and that you’re improving.

The point is to have competitive matches. If you are so good that you beat every other solo group. Then yeah you should have at least a reasonable shot at beating the lower tier premades.
You wanna test that theory of yours? I’ll go ahead and grab some rank20s that are all on builds that they’ve been given from myself and my team (believe me, plenty of these premades are getting their builds from the toptiers copypaste style), put them all on ts while mixing you up with a group of r20rs that don’t have a team composition at all or any preset roles or anything similiar to that and then telling you to carry?
I’ve been in situations like that and those games are hardly easy to carry. Do you think one strong player will make up for four weak unsynced notonts players in a major teamfight? Obviously not, not unless I’m on teamspeak with them calling important stuff. So what is your solution? Splitting and 1v1ing their point defender? If you know anything in this meta at all you know that the standard solution to someone 1v1ing your point is to call the thief to your close point.
You guys have a severe lack of understanding if you think it’s easy to carry randoms vs premades in a game like this. This isnt league of legends, I can’t outplay the top laner to the massive extent where I get fed and 1v2 the top laner and the jungler. This is a game without snowballing.
You guys seriously took the normal game mode of league of legends, the least form of competitive play in league and made that your serious matchmaking mode.

We of course understand that solo players would prefer a separate queue from premade teams, and it isn’t off the table as a future improvement. The trade off here, besides the extra development time, is that high rated solo queuers would get a better experience (never facing premades), at the expense of all team queuers getting a worse experience (longer queue times)

I’ve tried the soloQ now. I was up versus premades 7 out of 10 tries.
But hey, I don’t deserve my high rating because I was not able to carry all of those games!
Anyway, it’s PAINFUL to see that arenanet added in ‘’join solo’’ button, they have a system where you have to have a full premade to join, they have two seperate matchmakings for the 3 man and 1 man que but STILL DON’T JUST MAKE A SOLOQ WITH THIS.

Seriously, having two different ques, one with a 3 map rotation that requires teams as a workaround because you don’t have a random map generator, something nintendo64 games have is TRAGIC.

Why does arenanet think that the pvpers would not buy special skins for cash if it would allow them to be used in pvp (similiar to what some already did with some of the pve skins like the grinning shield)?
Just add a ton of new skins in the shop and pvpers will buy it, look at league of legends for example.

Arenanet, how about you guys don’t force us to do this workaround? Just lock the option of being able to grab a team in the 1 round one, (optimally allow us to grab one friend) and then make the 3 round free into 1 round with premade allowed, both with matchmakings! With that we have the system we’ve wanted since beta!
Still, until that is implemented this is a great idea for both the solo players and the teams and Curse supports it completely, if the community also backs up this idea we’ll never que in the 1 round as our team c:

I remember when I was a 1300 rated chessplayer, I made the goal to hit 1700 rating. Had I not had the simple rating goal to see my progress I would most likely never have committed to chess the way I did
And boy, I’m glad I did. Chess is my favorite thing.. ever!

I don’t think that they lied about that. The population is growing because people get to try out paids for the first time.
Will those people stay for another three months? Absolutely not.

The poor transparency along with anets mistakes made these teams progressively lose more faith in the game. Just like you can see in fellivars posts response, it really doesn’t seem like anet understands the path they’re taking. Anyway, once the team had a bad streak players left. When they left the team(s) had a slow process where they constantly tried different people. Eventually one of the teams more or less collapsed, leaving the players trying to find a team (and being unable to). Unsurprisingly, the vast majority of the once huge DI guild have quit the game now.
Solution: Soloq for the people that couldn’t find a team and kittenING transparency.
You have NO idea how long I could keep going. Do you think I’m even ALMOST done on the list of people I could make? NO, arenanet. The list is kittening massive. I could mention Mace stun, no scrub, get stomped, estars, svarnir ninjas, Jackazzms team, cutthroats and the list goes oooooooon. But I’ll assume that I’ve made my point
This bullkitten of you guys being unable to even post on the forums regularly needs to stop. If it’s a staff issue then hire people. If you cant in your multi million selling game hire some community management then reach out to us. I know of an infinite amount of people, myself included that would gladly do that role for you FOR FREE.
The biggest two problems for this game is:
1. If you want to be competitive in it then you have to play it as if it’s your god kitten JOB. A job where there is no guarantee you’ll get paid in the future aside from your smirking boss saying ‘’in the future we might go into a profit’‘.
2. You guys refuse to talk to us, and you act as if your ’’We don’t want to say a word because we don’t want to commit’’ tactic is working when it’s made thousands of people quit.
