There are already many posts about the bigger changes that deserve to be in the game, but what about the little ones? I’m sure some of these have been said, but anyways here’s what I have so far.

• Cool sounds for when a Q pops. In other games, when your battleground or pvp queue pops there’s usually a cool war-drum sound that plays. Not only can this be satisfying if pulled off right but if you need to tab out for something you’ll know when it pops.
• Adding a shiny “New!” text icon on locker items when you first obtain them.
• When previewing dyes on the TP while in a match or in the hotm, show it on your pvp armor instead of pve. This can be done now if you preview a pvp item first, but lets just cut out the middle man.
• Show glory amount to the left of the gold amount when opening inventory.
• Put a “!” on the Pvp icon (the cross-swords) when you have pending tourney invites.
• Hide the living story stuff when in the mists.
• Allow PVP Gear to stack. I have two PVP Sovereign Daggers and it’s annoying that I always have to keep one in my inv or go to LA to bank it if I want to keep it. This will also save clutter when opening chests.
• Put a normal bank npc in the mists.
• Skin crafting tutorial.
• Pause glory booster while in the mists.
• (reward suggestion inc) Rank based chest piece. Basically, once you reach your new rank bracket you unlock a new chest piece based off of your animal. It would be placed in your achievment rewards area (same place that zenith weps go) and would be able to be used for PVP and PVE as a skin.

With the recent MMR reset you will now be teamed with new players when you first start soloQ. What does this mean? Getting teamed with two rank 1 thieves who fight off point,don’t communicate, and don’t know what the secondary objectives are. So I think maps with secondary objectives will be too much to handle during this time if many new people can’t even handle the main objective. I know getting rid of skyhammer permanently from soloQ is out of the question (since the devs want to keep it in), but please at least during this reset period?

1. lol’d at everyone is obsessed with pvp.
2. Believe it or not some people like the Gw2 combat enough to want to push for it’s e-sports. They don’t go to other games why? Cause’ they want to be good at Gw2. Plain and simple.
3. Like any game, the only way Gw2 esports will be taken seriously is if there’s a population to feed it regardless of balance. Even some champs in LoL don’t make it to top tier play.

This has literally no impact on 4 vs 5’s, and isn’t even related. Just because you face people around your MMR doesn’t mean they wont jip you of a victory by not joining or quitting.

I don’t get why they aren’t addressing this problem. All they need to do is send a ready check before the game starts and after a certain time period if everyone’s not ready it re-starts the queue.

We played with your system for month, we worked hard to get a good placement, and all for nothing?

Yes, the system had problems, but still nothing we, the players, could change. We just played, we dealt with teammates going afk, insulting us, leading to a 4 vs 5 and a loose. What did we do? We just played more, worked more, carried our teams to the top… and all for nothing, while the toxic players who insulted us are still playing.

Our accomplishment gets wiped without any sign of the remaining effort, while the farmed rank on skyhammer stays untouched. It seems ArenaNet just does not care whats going on the game.

You can argue, that a lot of inactive players are on the top of the leaderboard, but have they done anything you can blame them for? With the leaderboard they played to get to the top, and they accomplished that. A month ago ArenaNet could have just made the announcement “play at least 100 games”, and they would have played their 100 games, but ArenaNet stayed calmed, deceiving us with their unnecessary CDI-topics, fooled us with statements like “I’ll take a look at it on Monday” while nothing happens. Yes! I can see the carrot in the stick you are waving in front of us, the future will bring everything we are waiting for, but in the meantime we are left out.

While you can argue a lot, what is wrong with the SoloQ, but what about the TeamQ? Even harder to withstand the top teams, and that was now also for nothing.

Why even take a look at the leaderboard after the reset? We get a much more accurate view on the best teams from the weekly esl tournaments (at least on eu), and the probably the leaderboard will get reset again once they implement their “plans”. And their will be the same discussion about how accurate the leaderboard is, just take a look at the new thread, where they claim it depends just on how often you get a 4vs5.

We don’t want a lot, we don’t want a legendary, we don’t want a special skin, or a special stomp animation, we just want to get the same treatment, as the qualification points farmer.

some are even boycotting skyhammer in solo arena by away from keyboard during the match or even quitting the match.

i am fine playing skyhammer in 8 vs 8 hotjoin arena though.

We need 18 vs 18 for skill based combat, and enlarge skyhammer.

Well, this seems like a great place to ask!

  • What runes/sigils would you like to see added to PvP?
  • And for any adventurous readers, what different stat combinations on amulets?

I honestly think the stat combos we have now are fine . But I do have one suggestion, making Jewels more useful.

Now I don’t mean buffing jewel stats and stacking it on your amulet, but maybe you can reduce the amount of stats the amulet gives by 40%, and buff the jewel’s stats by the amount taken from the amulet.

In the later thread, a Dev (Grouch) replied when I asked Jonathan Sharp about his opinion on these kinds of arenas:

Arena is definitely something that gets brought up quite often in the office. I watched the FML 2v2 Tournament this weekend and it was a heck of a lot of fun. Some of the most exciting fights in conquest is when you’re doing small skirmishes on side points and the tournament on Saturday emulated those situations extremely well.

The good news is that players can create psuedo-2v2/3v3 Custom Arenas already, and there’s already a few rooms setup like that. I’d like to see more 2v2 type tournaments with prizes pop up in the future, and I’ve had a few people approach me saying they’d be interesting in organizing something like that.

Also, this is a quote from John Corpening (PvP Coordinator) from the CDT- Game Mode topic, and one from Jonathan Sharp:

I ASK, WHY I AM MATCHED WITH PPL WHO ARE RANK 1 OR 7 OR FULL TEAM OF UNDER R20 THAN DON’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT TOURNAMENT PLAY WHILE MYSELF BEING R50+ WITH 3.5K TOURNAMENTS AND 2.2K HOURS OF PVP PLAYED?

You’re MMR is on the low end, which may be an accurate representation of your skill or you were hit by a bug that destroyed your MMR.

If it’s the latter, you should see an improvement after the MMR is reset on the 29th.

We’ve included a few changes that we suspect will help, but don’t yet have metrics on how successful those changes have been.

That said, we have plans to resolve this issue as part of a pretty significant refactor and restructure that we’re well into, but that won’t be ready by year’s end.

Just wondering if there is a reason why making sure there’s a full team (that is ready-checked) hasn’t been added yet? Is it because it’s hard to do or it’s not something you agree with? Idk maybe since I don’t understand code i’m overestimating but are ready checks hard to pull off?

I don’t think that the particle effects on the projectiles are that bad, but for the love of god please give us an option to remove trailing/footsteps. Everyone is going to get the gs’s and it will get messy.

@ Moba: This plays into another idea you guys seem to be hitting on, which is a moba style game. We think the layout/flow of a moba style map could be really fun, especially when combined with something like killing enemy captains or guild lords. We’re also looking at testing something like that!

@ GvG/castle sieges: I think these can be combined in some pretty cool ways. You guys had some great points/ideas on these, so thanks for those.

@ Lords and protecting them/not protecting them: Players seem to be pretty split down the middle on this one. Some players want the “play” of protecting their Lord and keeping it alive, while other want it to be more like a MOBA nexxus – something you can’t actively heal/protect. We’ll have to try that one both ways to see what has better play to it. I suspect it’s the former.

@ Not having RPG elements in our game when compared to most MOBAS: Keep this in mind. It’s what gives the mobas their flow/pace. We need to build mechanics that change the pacing/feel of the map in a similar way, without hampering the fun players have. I think you get the same thing out of an RTS, but in a different way. Both sides start off with few resources and weak units. Over time they build up in both areas, and the middle/late game are very different than the early game.

I’ll keep looking for other things to respond to in this thread. Thanks for all the feedback/ideas guys.

It probably only takes about 40 hours of hotjoin zerging to get to r20. Finishing all of the WvW achievements is probably a similar time commitment. I don’t think it’s a huge deal.

its a huge difference, the skills you learn from getting rank 20 in pvp compared to wvw zerging is huge. + its a pvp finisher why the hell would it be a wvw prize, if they plan on giving away a finisher it should be a special wvw limited edition finisher that people can look back on to show as prove of being part of this season.

Ye ye, whatever dude. Honestly, alot of the WvW players are better than even some of the top pvpers in this game. Not that they would win a pvp match, but that is just because of things like point control and rotations. So pvpers are better at standing on points but wvw players (the good ones) are better at combat.

Having to rotate isn’t the reason “alot of the Wvw players” would lose, it’s because they don’t have ascended gear, food, op runes, WvW stat buffs and up-leveled targets. If you look at any Tpvper that roams WvW for the lulz (Ex: OstrichEggs) you will see that the common WvW-only gets spit on by the superior player. A common hotjoin hero could wreck in WvW if they got provided the gear.

Also to address the trait itself. I doubt they would want a trait critting like that, remembering mugs fate.

Yeah, I never got why they took away crit from mug. I get that it did a kitten ton of damage, but considers how the condi meta is, and that weakness now effects critical hits I can see it being countered today.

Put 20 points into Shadow Arts and you can get the “Leeching Venoms (IX)” trait. This trait makes it so when you trigger a venom your target takes an additional 350 damage and you siphon for 325 HP (Damage scales of power, siphon scales off of healing power). Now this trait also works with venomous aura, so if you apply it to team-mates they too siphon health and deal additional damage. But there’s a catch, the siphon damage can’t crit.

So what if it could crit? Lets say a thief (to maximize the amount of venom) has Spider, Ice Drake, Skale, and Basilisk venoms, along with the Extra Venoms trait. That would be 16 venom strikes: 6 Spider, 4 ice drake, 4 skale, and 2 Basi. As it stands once all of those venoms are applied that is 5600 additional damage, 5200 healing .

So if someone gets off 6 successful attacks, Leeching Venoms works as follows (this is base dmg, does not take into the user’s power) :
• 1st strike: Additional 1400 damage, 1300 healing
• 2nd strike: Additional 1400 damage, 1300 healing
• 3rd strike: Additional 1050 damage, 975 healing
• 4th strike: Additional 1050 damage, 975 healing
• 5th strike: Additional 350 damage, 325 healing
• 6th strike: Additional 350 damage, 325 healing

Now if the damage could crit? What would it look like. Well the wiki says that base crits are 150% of the base damage, so 350 would turn into 525 (this is with 0 crit damage). 5600 total additional damage would turn into 8400 (assuming every strike crits).

• 1st strike: Additional 2100 dmg
• 2nd strike: Additional 2100 dmg
• 3rd strike: Additional 1575 dmg
• 4th strike: Additional 1575 dmg
• 5th strike: Additional 525 dmg
• 6th strike: Additional 525 dmg

I personally think this should happen just because their isn’t a real reason to have venom share in pvp. I mean immobolize locks are fun and can certainly screw up someone’s day, but once those venoms are on cooldown what do you do? So to compensate for the fairly short gap of no utility I think allowing some extra oomph in the damage being dealt by you and your team-mates (if you have venom share) would be useful. As for the healing part of this trait, maybe they can make it so when the damage crits so does the healing (325 healing turns into 488). What do you guys think?

@ team sizes over 5: I know some people really like the idea of having games of 8v8 -> 15 v 15, but in reality, these games are often hard to set up. I think that 5on5 is much easier to organize as a player. When I was a GW1 player, playing competitive GvG, we had many nights where we had a hard time getting all 8 people on, night after night, in order to train. A lot of competitive games have settled on the 5 person team (CS, all mobas, etc.), and it’s an easier # to organize than 8 or 15 person teams.

I think 5 is the biggest team size we’d want for organized play, and we could try smaller teams, but due to multiple reasons, teams greater than 5 would probably be too large for GW2.

@ game modes vs. other features: We can do both. It obviously takes time for both, but we don’t have to choose a new map or game type versus new features. Having said that, the way the work breaks down sometimes means that a designer is needed for a game type, with a little programmer support, while a new major feature (like new rewards), may take a lot of programmer time and designer time.

@ SHOULD WE EVEN TAKE THIS COLLABORATION THING SERIOUSLY!?!??!?!?!?: That’s up to you. We are.

@ King of the hill: We’ve actually tried it a few times internally. It usually devolves into a stalemate in the middle of the map, or one big cluster of bodies. Imagine: the middle point is the only point on the map, and both teams just run right to it…..10 people pop their elites….. there’s a 5on5, and then the game is over. Are there things you’d like to add in order to spice it up a little? IT SOUNDS GREAT…and then you play it…and it leaves a little to be desired.

@ GvG: There’s a lot of equivocation around "GvG’. Keep in mind that when we’re talking about GvG here, we’re talking about a GAME TYPE. Don’t get this confused with two guilds fighting each other for positioning on a ladder. That’s something else we can do (and want to do), and that would work for CTF, or KOTH, or GvG, or conquest, etc.

For the GAME TYPE, people seem to be asking for:

  • 2 lords. If you kill their lord you win.
  • There are obstacles in the way (a lot of people use the MOBA analogies of having NPC’s or towers in the way…you defeat these in order to get to the opposing guild lord).
  • I assume there’s a time limit?
  • Do we do VoD again to stop people from turtling?

@ Giving you guys the tools so you can just make game types yourselves: I wish we could do this. I really do. This is how counsterstrike and dota were born. I was there when it happened, as a player, and I loved it. For GW2, it takes a LOT to make a map. It takes design, scripting, a map artist, programmers, a prop artist, a sound engineer, voice over, etc. It’s not as simple as “give us your tools and we’ll do it”. It takes a lot to make a map in an MMO.

Keep posting such amazing thoughts! As John said earlier in a post, we’re here, listening to you, but we love letting you guys talk among yourselves. We don’t want to butt in and interrupt you when you guys are producing such productive conversations!

I agree with everything and I’m glad that you do take time with things, but what about game modes with less than 5 people? A lot of people are discussing 2 vs 2 arenas, is that something you can do?

MOBA – too much PvE in that PvP

GvG – the sizes of teams people are throwing out (10v10, 15v15, 20v20!) are WAAAAY to huge to make a functioning team. Good luck getting 9 of your closest friends to log on at the same time. I think the best way to satisfy all these people really attached to GvG is make an offshoot of WvW which is capped at like 20-25 players and make it instanced so the guilds can go throwdown there. sPvP is for balanced, competitive, spectate-worthy competition. GvG doesn’t fit into this model

2v2 or 3v3 deathmatch – love this idea. My favorite part of WoW PvP. Much easier to form a team and compete. Much easier to understand what is going on from a spectator perspective as well.

Capture the flag, payload, “de” style bomb plant/diffuse – All these would be good as well and work in both a hotjoin and more structured ranked environment.

2 v 2 would be epic. 3 v 3 idk though, would be too much like today’s mid fight.

Most of the people that complain about not being able to kill this “God” class, are using outdated or unreliable builds like cantrip ele, some random hybrid mesmer build, or d/d thief. Use a meta build and know how the game works and you can kill any warrior. Maybe not with ease, but it can be done. Sadly this game has turned into Meta Build Wars 2, so if you aren’t using a meta build (correctly) you’re bound to get mushed. I would be pestering about adding more viable build variety to other classes instead of removing build variety for one class. I’m not saying warriors don’t need a nerf (me personally adrenaline needs to be used up when they miss their burst), but I’m also not saying their an unbeatable monster that haunts my dreams at night.

2 vs 2 Arenas
• You and a friend qeue up, and go against another pair of dudes and duke it out in a gladiator-style coliseum.
• Would have it’s own meta, because you don’t need to worry about map rotations, and you can focus your traits/skills to either crush the enemy or help out your teammate.
• More builds would be considered viable (for this gamemode).
• It would also be fun (and hopefully have leaderboards to be competitive)!
• Q times would also be very short, considering it’s only 4 people in one match.
• Best 3 out of 5 format would be nice, if your team wins more than 2 rounds you win basically.
• Would be great practice for new players to study how other classes are played.

IoJ is in a rut atm… we spend more time defending what we have than capping things in eb (even then sometimes our zerg is just too small to do anything). I mean we kind of have to, there are lone periods of time where we just dont have commanders on.

Our axe is just trash now.

It’s gonna need a major overhaul to fix it’s issues.

I dont find a problem with axe other than axe #5, so I don’t really thing it needs a complete overhaul. It just honestly seems like Anet mixed things up when making the classes and put our whirling axe on a thief by accident. They might as well make our final thrust a leap and name it heart seeker.

What would be amazing:
Skin Shop: Instead of buying chests that give you a bunch of stuff you already have, why not make your rank vendor sell each individual skin (of thar rank) for a set glory price, and scale them depending on how “rare” they are. I find it odd that a pvp mode prompts you to use the mystic dump for your skins when you should be out there fighting.

Gold Plz: I want to buy dyes, skins and anything else on the TP just like every other player can.

Better Rewards for taking part in, and winning SoloQ and TeamQ: More glory, possibly some cash, just overall make people do tpvp instead of hotjoins.

When a Thief used their F1 (Steal) on a warrior, they get our skill Whirling Axe (off hand axe 5 skills), except their version reflects projectiles and ours don’t. Shouldn’t it be the other way around?

“omg why didnt u just giv us dis instead”, seriously guys just chill. They are still working on the pvp reward revamp (which they say will surprise our socks off), so they are just doing this for I don’t know, holiday spirit.

I haven’t logged in and played yet but people are saying that you can get the bags without winning? Now that right there is bad news. Pvp is competitive, one group wins while the other one loses. Therefore the winning team should get a reward. I don’t mind if pve players come to pvp, but I don’t want farmers coming to tpvp to purposefully lose.

Are there any Gw2 discounts?

Just wanted to share a little build I’ve been having a ton of fun with lately in soloQ and a bit of tpvp with friends. It’s a m/sw & lb.

Pros
• Access to every damage dealing condi in (looks very pretty with the new floaters!).
• Very high crit chance. 82% with fury 62% without.
• cc
• Health Regen and condi resistance.
• 2,690 attack. Although almost no crit dmg in this build, your crit rate is very high so you will burst more often.

Cons
• No toughness other than traits.
• Slow adrenaline gain in 1v1’s where you have used zerker’s stance already.

Most of your damage is going to come from condi, but the higher power really makes a difference. The rotation I begin with is usually:
Pindown>Combust>Fan of fire [swap] Impale>Pommel Bash (if no stabil)> Skull Crack. Everything after impale is situational , but if the enemy doesn’t have stability that’s what I do. It’s also good to rip out the sword right before the torment chain ends (can hit for 1.8-2.3k without might). Throw in an Arcing Arrow when you see that they can’t dodge, does about 3-4k. Mace auto hits for 850- 1020 depending on targets toughness. Anyways, have a good day.
