Note from the Heart of Thorns discussion – “Holding objectives is now a bigger component of victories in WvW”
Thanks a lot, anet, for giving us the opposite of what we have been asking for.
I want guild tags longer than 4 characters. My dream is for all my enemies to see my nameplate as Fort Aspenwood Silver Raider [IS ABOUT TO KILL YOU].
New maps
New smaller maps
New bigger maps
New modes for those maps (no ppt for smaller map, or only one tower to capture in the mid)
AoE limit removal, like they are doing for ESO
People still play ESO? God that game sucked. Three months of my gaming life I will never get back.
That is probably the last reason why guilds run tagless and changing the rally mechanic would change this not at all. Inexperienced players will become welcomed by most commanders if they 1) get on teamspeak and follow directions, 2) know how to play their class, and 3) stay on tag.
Don’t take it personally if a guild group asks you to stop following them when they run tagless. They may be practicing for gvg or just like to do guild only rallies. It is nothing personal. Just leave them be and follow the commander who has tagged up.
Nice idea Osu, although you, yourself help create the situation you’re in now. You transferred to FA from a lower tier, giving them yet more numbers, so whenever you are out there you server outnumbers T3 servers, go figure. If you don’t like it, maybe put time into thinking these things over before jumping ships to join blob servers. You could also arrange GvG’s with equal numbers, but then again, that wouldn’t happen as you guys don’t like getting wiped in equal numbers.
Nice, Zababa. Very mature. I try to apologize and explain but you just throw it back in my face and block me. I forget, were you in KOGS when we “jumped ship” from SoR several months ago? If so, everything you just said makes you a hypocrite. If not, forgive me. I don’t really remember you.
I’m all for an alliance system if it keeps populations even and stable. Lopsided matchups are detrimental to winning and losing servers alike.
Here’s a solution. 20% of SoS please go to NSP, 20% go to IoJ, and the rest stay put. That way T2 and T3 stay in balance. I think I can speak for all of FA when I say we really are not enjoying this week. We’re not getting good fights, and NSP and IoJ are certainly not enjoying being on the receiving end of our frustration.
Any wvw guild going to eotm to farm bags has to be unbelievable bored. I mean, 650 point tick bored. An organized wvw guild should be able to kill a 30 man blob without much trouble. Not exactly good practice.
No white swords discourages battles. I’m in NA T2 and sometimes we have trouble getting a scout in every tower/keep. I can’t imagine how tough it is for lower tiers. At least white swords allows whoever is on a low pop map to actually respond. Thanks anet for further encouraging pvdoor.
Amen to 4 unique maps. Who cares if they are not completely balanced as long as the home map is different every week.
I’d also like to see periodic events on borderlands like the appearance of champion mob that actually drops good loot and/or gives whoever kills it a temporary buff. That was a feature of the RvRvR Conquest map in Rift and it really became the catalyst for some large battles.
Rangers are fine until the group gets larger than 5. After that they become a liability. The best wvw builds for rangers are based on condi and regen. Condi’s are better applied by necros, and regen doesn’t really help the group, unless you are a shout regen healer, which means you have a bunch of god-awful shouts as utilities. Add to that, rangers lack speed and stability. IMO, anet needs to give rangers a whole new set of shouts that actually buff allies. Then they might get some wvw love.
Consider yourself lucky. I have gotten 2 fractal weapon skins in about 90 total runs.
I usually make space in bags before final boss in dungeons/fractals when i pug. I kind of expect people to leave group quickly at end of dungeons, but once I hit level 30 on fractals everyone kinda wants to wait and see if anyone got ascendeds or fractal skins.
Not sure if trolling or what…
mesmer, thief and engi are better roamers, guardian and warrior are better in zerging, ele/necro are better at support.
ranger excels in nothing
Rangers excel at hurting you from a distance, applying conditions and healing via regeneration. I run a mostly apothecary build for my ranger and i can outlast most opponents in 1 v 1. With sigil of energy, and being properly traited, you can keep almost protection and regen. That being said, i hardly ever play my ranger in wvw because I hate roaming and prefer to bring so much more to the table with my unkillable, chain-stunning, fear/stomping you off a cliff, shout healer warrior.

All these posts just serve to confirm something I have believed since EotM was released, namely that ALL wvw will eventually be of the EotM color v color system. Anet is just easing us into it rather than making an abrupt change. The current server v server model just gives everyone a different reason to complain. T1 is a blobfest and winners are determined by coverage. T2 is so unbalanced and matches are one-sided and sad. T3 is a wasteland with so few players a 5-man group can take every objective unopposed.
If anyone from anet is actually reading this, I would suggest that when you do make this change, start giving decent rewards for wvw. I would also suggest you add a section to your gem store that has items that require gems AND wvw badges to purchase. Wouldn’t it be nice to see diehard wvw’ers get some exclusive skins that don’t require farming boring living story events.
When the better wvw guilds figure this out, we are all toast. I can’t imagine anything more unstoppable than an entire zerg of Bearbow rangers. Run for your lives!!!!!
This thread is way too funny. Bears are OP? Bears? ROFL!
Any post that argues rangers are overpowered in any aspect of the game, is trolling. If you seriously think rangers are overpowered compared to other proffs, I really have to wonder how much time you have been in wvw.
If Barrage scares you, you need some PVT gear.
I don’t blame players for going to EotM if they find it more fun. Those decisions make perfect sense on an individual level.
But taken collectively, they are destroying WvW.
It was an extremely BAD idea for Arenanet to release EotM in its current state, complete with exaggerated rewards, before fixing regular WvW.
Learn to love EotM, because it is just a matter of time before anet abandons the tier system and makes all maps work on the EotM coalition model. It solves the biggest complaint about low server populations, which are going to drop even more when ESO is released. Or maybe they’ll keep tiers 1-3 the way they are and lump everyone else into an EotM system.
Same with gold sellers – who pop up and promptly vanish – oh and one guy I reported for a racist nametag – he disappeared in minutes never to return.
I think Anet do quite a good job on this stuff where they can.
Anet does actively ban gold sellers because they are competition for Anet. They could care less about hackers because hacking does not threaten a revenue stream.
I just love how everyone complaining about how bad rangers are never actually play as rangers. the Ranger class can be good, but due to the devs absolutely screwing the class over, there is no real knowledge about the class.
I played ranger and engi in wvw for the first 6 months of GW2 and felt like I was an average player at best. Then I started playing my warrior and never looked back. I was amazed at how much more damage I could do and still be more survivable. Now I unconsciously target rangers in wvw because I know they are easy kills (unless they are bunker rangers in which case it takes to long).
Personally I would like to see a total revamp of Rangers. Take the pets away, buff the Ranger itself, and make them more of an Archer or Skirmisher type. That would eliminate much of the complaint about pet AI, and allow Rangers to build themselves to be more useful.
Couldn’t agree more. Ranger is a broken pvp class and is only really viable in pve. In a nutshell, rangers were designed with spvp balance in mind, not wvw balance (although the fact that rangers are extremely rare in spvp would imply they are not well-balanced there either). Pets are borderline useless and should be optional like necro minions.
Dude, if its red, its dead. Not sure why roamers like to complain about getting steamrolled by larger groups. You are an easy kill so get out of the way.
If you like to duel, go to obsidian sanctum or do some spvp. On SoR, disciplined guild zergs will probably not chase small groups unless they have nothing better to do. Blobs will always have some opportunistic folks happy to get a free bag.
Until Anet realizes that the only meaningful solution is combining low pop servers for wvw, they’re going to keep making these useless tweaks.
As soon as the final boss fight starts in Citadel of Flame path 1, my weapon swap grays out and stops working. It has happened to me before and others have reported the same issue.
Seems to me the best way to fix the coverage issue is to have wvw league play set up as alliance vs alliance rather than world vs world. An alliance would be a combination of multiple (2-4) servers. I think if you had 4 servers contributing players, it would not be difficult to have round the clock coverage for all sides. Only drawback I see is it would be difficult to get on the main map during primetime, so often you would be playing on an overflow map.
I’ll buy infinite gathering tools when 1 tool will equip all my toons. Who wants to deal with the hassle of finding a bank so you can unequip your tool and then re-equip on another. I’m better off just buying another bag slot and getting extra orichalcum tools.
Since no data is available from anet, I know this will all be anecdotal, but still would be interesting to know. Anyone care to chime in on average queue times for their server during league play. Over in SoR, week 1 was bad. Rarely got in at all on weekends or prime time. Week 2 was a little better but still over an hour. Week 3 so far feels like back to normal. Reset night is impossible, but weekend and prime time weekdays is about 30 minutes. No or very short queue during the mornings and afternoons.
For anyone moving to a T1 server, I hope you like PVE. You’ll be doing a lot of it during the long hours you spend in queue.
Please give us another chance at a useful rune or sigil by making superior sigils and runes eligible for use in the mystic forge. Superior Sigil of Demon slaying? Really?
I would love it if all my green, blue and white item drops would be automatically salvaged when picked up. Furthermore, any luck essences should be automatically used. It’s account bound – what reason could you possibly have for not using it immediately?
Agree 100%. This is the reason I never bought the special gathering items. I would gladly spend 1500 gems per tool if ALL my toons can use them, but not 800 per tool, per toon.
If someone is giving you a hard time, wait until a friendly arrives and go in with backup. In my experience, 95% of the time someone who /waves back at you is honorable and won’t attack.
If you /wave back and then proceed to attack someone, you sir, have no honor.
To those of you who actually pick fights in the JP, what is your problem? Do you honestly find the JP a fun place to fight? The water is only a short jump away so while preventing someone from completing the JP is a distinct possibility, actually killing them is difficult. Do you think trolling the JP justifies your taking up valuable space in the BL? It doesn’t. Go do something productive and help your side take or defend an objective.
2v1 situations don’t happen because they are some fiendish plot. They happen because a weakened server creates a target of opportunity. If a zerg is caught between 2 enemy zergs, the zerg in the middle is going to be smashed because it is VULNERABLE. Anyone who thinks their server is being targeted in wvw is flattering themselves.
I understand all the pve’ers who have never set foot in wvw being a little frustrated this week as the other teams keep preventing them from getting all their precious achievements done. However, those pve’ers should understand that us diehard pvp’ers who spend most of our time in wvw have learned the hard way and developed tactics and strategies to survive in wvw. I am not going to elaborate on all those strategies as you can learn them yourself on reddit or youtube or whatever. I will give you a simple bit of advice; that zerker pve gear you are wearing is going to get you killed in wvw. Get yourself a set of PVT gear, and get some stun breaks and stability in your utilities. Until you learn how to take a couple hits, us wvw’ers will just see you as loot bags on legs.
Come back and do it later. They’ll eventually get bored and leave. I have found that 90% of people will be honorable and leave you alone if you /wave or /bow or something when you see them.
Might not be a bad idea for anet to add a short (10 min) debuff that prevents joining wvw to anyone who logs out when in a downed state. Twice yesterday people did that to me. What a lack of sportsmanship.
I was really excited about this patch but (like everyone else, it seems) am really baffled by a result which could have been foreseen with only a small amount of beta testing. As has been explained in previous posts, the bloodlust buff is basically a reward for having the most people in wvw at any given time. This is going to be completely obvious when league play starts and whichever server was the highest tier before league play will completely steamroll its opponents to the point that the losing side rage quits. Was it not challenge enough for the lower ranked servers to face off against a high ranked server. Now they will be facing even more juiced up zergs. IMO, enjoy bloodlust while it lasts, because it won’t.
I saw the reinvention of the lake as a great opportunity to give smaller groups something meaningful AND REWARDING to do, but anet couldn’t even give us that. Those small groups who cap the lake points are not really getting any sort of reward. In fact, they are only really helping the zerg cap towers faster and get the associated rewards. If anet really wants to make the wvw experience varied and interesting, they should stop doing the exact same thing they have been doing from day 1 – namely heaping reward after reward on whoever can field the biggest zerg.
If you think the spiders are hard, wait until you get to ghost eater in path 2. Crazy frustrating.
I think CD’s are fine, but I would reduce speed to walking speed when stealthed. Kind of hard to sneak up on someone at a full sprint.
