Let’s give anet some ideas on what wvwers would spend gems on so the potential revenue increase creates an incentive for anet to give wvw more attention.
I’d go out and buy gems in a heartbeat for a programmable inventory manager. I want a little elf that sits in my bags and automatically:
1) salvages all my white, blue and green loot and sends the mats to my materials bank
2) uses all my luck so i don’t have to waste time clicking it. Seriously, why can’t luck just get auto-looted like gold or karma
3) opens loot bags
4) sells junk to merchants
I’d also drop cash for extra bag space used exclusively for siege that would be shared by all my characters.
BG ticking 585 and YB at 85 as I write this. Looks like change is a bad thing.
Yes ele is OP but only when you paly in high level and to play ele in that level is very hard, and averege ele is for laugh.
Kinda like every other class.
Anet should not even bother with number-crunching and analysis to determine which profs are currently UP and OP. All they need to do is some player profiling. Once Anet knows which players are most likely to play the current OP fotm, they should just watch them and see what it is that prof can do that is giving them an unfair advantage. Anet, player behavior is telling you WHAT prof(s) are OP, now you just need to figure out WHY.
Pets have always been the ranger’s main source of weakness. One would think that a panther constantly mauling you during a fight would at least be distraction. Sadly, the AI is such that ignoring pets is incredibly easy. Since Anet shows no interest in making them smarter, melee pets should have a range of 600 for all attacks. Ranged pets should have the speed of their projectiles doubled so they actually hit a moving target. For wvw, I’d like to see a “no pet” option. Pets get nuked by enemy zerg aoes so fast that they are completely useless. It would be better to just keep them stowed and get a 20% damage buff. Lastly, I’d like to see the pet switch timer reduced to 20 seconds.
Burning damage doesn’t need to be nerfed, just some professions access to burning. It’s simple really, some professions are applying too many stacks of burning too easily, the main offenders being Elementalist and Guardian.
Engi’s have a mean burst that can stack a lot of burns also.
Sadly, you are going to be placed on teams with blocked players all the time. Thankfully, you won’t have to listen to him kitten.
The achievements are truly absurd compared to pve and pvp achievements. I play wvw pretty much exclusively and am on tier 2 of most the achievements. Has anyone actually seen another player who has a wvw achievement title? I heard a rumor of a Realm Avenger seen in EU.
I suggest back to back to back weeks where you can only enter wvw with a certain profession. Week one is lights, week two is medium, and week 3 is heavies. Week 2 would be the most fun as everyone would suck playing toons they haven’t played in years.
From day 1 EOTM should have had a different award currency from badges of honor (call them badges of farming or whatever). Assuming anet hadn’t screwed that up, they could add additional skins and gear that could be bought with the badges. Honestly, if we want some decent rewards, we should be prepared to buy them with a combination of badges of honor and gems. I can only assume wvw players don’t spend much $ on gems, so they are treated like second class citizens.
I’d rather just see a mercy rule where one side will win if they have a 250 point lead. Lop-sided games suck for both sides. Neither side is getting points for stomps or flipping objectives, so why prolong the agony.
Anet has all these nice shinies for spvp and pve because it is really easy to score an individual’s accomplishments, be they killing champs or other players or winning matches. Before anet can think about giving out desirable rewards for wvw, they need to first figure out how to quantitatively score the things we do in wvw. How many “points” should be awarded for wvw activities like winning fights, taking objectives, etc. It is the nebulous, never-ending nature of wvw that makes a reward system challenging. Also, anet has to be careful to not create a farmable reward system that will pull in primarily pve players (aka rallybots) and ruin the game for us primary wvw players.
I know we all like to complain about how anet doesn’t care about wvw. It is pretty obvious that wvw rewards are laughable compared to spvp or pve. However, if getting better rewards means a bunch of wvw noobs flood the maps during prime time and I spend an hour in queue, i’d rather anet keeps wvw as it is.
Invasion week!
Champ mobs or even world bosses randomly spawn on maps once an hour or so. Killing them is completely optional, but they give x points to the server that does the most damage. When the champ appears, he is marked on the map by one of those skull icons and is invulnerable for 1 minute to allow for players to arrive.
The boss fights were actually one of my favorite parts of Conquest in the Rift mmo. Everyone on the map converged to tag the boss because the loot drop was nice, but they stayed until the very end because the open field battles were epic.
Easy fix would have been to change the supercharged buff to only give a speed bonus. I can live with doors taking 20 seconds to get through rather than the current 10.
You’re always creating PvE events on WvW maps.
How about an event where we can attack and kill people on PvE maps? Expand their horizons and shake their playing experience up for a week.
YES – seconded
The angry posts from pve’ers would certainly crash the forums.
Asuran are Finally Useful Week!
Asurans can be loaded into and launched from catapults and trebuchets. Launched Asurans can deploy an optional parachute during flight to mitigate fall damage, but take double damage if they are hit with ranged attacks while the chute is open.
Rapid fire got seriously nerfed with the patch, so all you rangers haters out there should be happy. Guess anet was not happy with rangers having just one decent role to play in zerg fights.
There is no single adjustment to Rapid Fire. Check the patch notes.
If truth be told, it was actually buffed because now we don’t have to trait for extended range…we have points to use elsewhere. That is actually a buff.
Are you seeing damage as high as prepatch? I’m nowhere close.

I don’t have any statistics to back me up but have been noticing in wvw that Rapid fire is much weaker than the patch changes would suggest. Playing with the same buffs and a build as close to my pre-patch full zerker build as possible, I am averaging 12K per rapid fire. Before, it was 15K with occasional 18-20K hits. Very disappointing considering the LB buff from several months ago actually gave rangers a useful role in zerg fights as snipers. Now they can’t even do that. Back to my necro, I guess.
How anyone could possibly justify 3k auto attacks from 1500 range is beyond me. With Fire and Air, one auto attack can take out 1/3-1/4 of your total HP. Simply broken.
I can get closer to 4K fully buffed. Just sayin…
Just block them. If you consistently block rude people, it will only be a matter of weeks until you get them all.
Spvp tends to attract the most competitive and/or immature personalities and many of them just love to chest thump. I will go months without blocking or muting (ts) someone in wvw, but usually have blocked 2-3 after only 1 hour of spvp. Imo, spvp would be improved if there was an option to make enemy /say chat invisible to you. As someone who only rarely enjoys spvp, I don’t need some hooligan pointing out that I am not that good at it.
I think the moral of this long-winded moral of this story is thus:
1) Experienced players know that the ranger is a weak class in wvw. Therefore,
2) If you think rangers are OP, you either A) need more experience fighting rangers, or B ) keep running into top 1% kitten -kicking rangers.
I think A is more probable.
And remember, ANY class appears OP when played by a veteran with 1000 hours of wvw experience on that class.
Do teefs not realise that they are not the only class where bad things happen if you get hit by rapid fire? Or that they aren’t even close to the most vulnerable to taking a full rapid fire to the face?
True, it is worse if you are necro. If death shroud is on CD, you are basically toast.
If you keep dying to the rapid fire attack of a LB power ranger, it is not because that particular attack or that build is OP, it is because you kittening suck on your thief. Seriously, that is the only logical answer when you can’t beat the most ineffective class playing the highest risk build.
LB rangers are like artillery in an army – they do great damage when they can fire at will but are extremely vulnerable to counterattack. If you can’t take away a ranger’s range or terrain advantage, pull them back to where you can. Rangers MUST use positioning to be both effective and survive. The only time I start to feel like my ranger is stupid OP is when a zerg tries to push through a choke. Nothing like watching 5 toons eat a full 20K rapid fire.
The old meta was terrible and boring. Move along.
You mean GWEN that turned into EN? As thats what you lately, eles and necros. Lot of necros.
More like REN. Rangers with their ridiculous range just plinking away at you so you have to move even further out of range of your enemy zerg or risk getting spiked down with 5+ rangers hitting their 2 button
So true! I used to alternate between my warr and necro, but now I find I get the most bags picking off people from max range with my LB power ranger.
Siege is for attacking or defending objectives. Using siege in the open field is for cowards. If you are absolutely certain you can’t take an enemy force, run. If you think you have a chance, fight them without siege and let the better player win. If you build an AC before the fight, you already lost no matter what the outcome. If you drop siege and win, it is only because you used siege when the enemy fought honorably and you will eventually lose self-respect. If you lose, you AND enemy lose all respect for you because you had an advantage and still lost.
I really don’t understand ppters. Is siegehumping fun? Not for most people. And its not like there is a reward for it. The points literally don’t matter. If you really think ppt should be more important than fights, lobby anet to award the matchup winner with a reward that is actually worth getting.
Imo, Warrs got hit the hardest by the stab change. I run balanced stance, dolyak signet, and last stand which got me 24 seconds of stab before. Now, 5 seconds into a push I’m getting knocked around like a ping pong ball.
Which is a prime example of why stability was broken OP, you have all that, and then lets say you have two guards in your party with stand your ground every 24 secs, plus the stab on courage trait, and you have near permanent stability because boon stripping gets vastly outscaled in the transition from PvP to WvW by boon generation (and it isn’t in that good a place even in PvP) so is useless other than focusing the commander with corrupt boon.
Being a melee class, I have to be able to MOVE in order to be of any use whatsoever. Pardon me for being annoyed that spending 2/3 of my traits and utilities on movement related abilities is no longer enough.
Yeah, stab only wrecks the gameplay of melee builds, so you are right, it is not really a big deal.
Last week I saw about 25 NightShift [NS] (who are top 3 gvg/fight guilds on NA) get completely demolished by about 50-60 HG.
Please don’t exaggerate. HG is lucky to get 30 members on at any given time.
That being said, I essentially agree with your main point. It is almost impossible for frontliners to maintain stab vs a large blob. Before the stab change I had 3, 8 second stab sources. Now it feels like I am without stab about 5 seconds into a fight. Playing a hammer warrior is really frustrating now.
Maybe anet thinks this will encourage migration to lower-pop servers. The hammer train won’t work against big blobs with 20 necros, but it should still work against 15-20 man groups with traditional builds.

I main a frontline stance warr in zerg play and along with guards, they are still key to coordinated fights. However, when the raid is over, I often jump on my backline power LB ranger for pure fun. SOOO many people alt-F4 when I am stomping them on my ranger.
Hmm, that’s a bit disappointing that I’m going to have to wait all the way until level 80 to be useful in real WvW. It makes me miss the level tiered setup that Warhammer Fantasy had, but then at this point most people would be out of the early tiers anyway I guess. Thanks for the answers everyone.
Getting to max level in GW takes a fraction of the time it takes in other mmos like wow. Like others have mentioned, join the karma train in eotm and you will be 80 in a week or so. Joining the real fight in the BLs is going to be frustrating before you hit 80 and get geared up as you will get targeted and killed before you can even react.
maybe give all 3 servers equal supply, winning in eotm doesn’t really mean anything anyways. Nobody there is ppt competitive.
It doesn’t mean anything? I means you get supply in WvW.
Does anyone who k-trains in eotm do it to help their side get supply in wvw? Absolutely not. Therefore, why should there be a wvw advantage to the “winner.” I’d just drop the supply bonus completely.
Stick with med armor classes for roaming (thief, engi, ranger). Thieves and engis take a while to learn, but are lots of fun. Rangers are extremely easy to play but still fun. Of the 3, ranger is my current favorite. Tanky regen/condi builds are very hard to bring down 1v1 and can stack bleeds like crazy. I also enjoy my ranger in zergs as a backline sniper.
These all sound like low-pop server problems. None of these would be acceptable to gold league servers. Just do what everyone else does given the current constraints – figure out your favorite wvw playstyle and move to the server/tier that supports that playstyle.
If you think matchups are unbalanced now, how bad do you think it would be if anet hit the reset button and made all of them completely random. A T1 server would tick 600+ the entire week against 2 bronze league servers. Said T1 server would be bored silly and their bronze league victims would not even bother venturing into wvw. This would kitten off absolutely everyone who plays wvw.
I would love to see anet “deputize” some wvw players. Wvw deputies would get an ingame notification when someone reported a hacker and be tasked with tailing the reported player and take screen shots of them hacking or siege trolling or whatever. Of course, anet would have to actually do some WORK and set up a protocol for recruiting and vetting deputies, so forget I ever mentioned it as it will never happen.
Anet won’t let up on the whole esports idea so what did you expect. Ever watch a 20 man GvG between top guilds? There are spell affects shooting all over the place so it is confusing as hell for anyone who is not already a gw2 veteran and the fights can last 10 minutes or more between equally matched teams. That makes the whole concept unmarketable.
I believe anet will never do away with the server system for wvw. However, I do believe at some point lower tiered servers will be combined into an alliance or something like that. I envision Tiers 1 and 2 being left alone, Tiers 3 and 4 being combined, and Tiers 5-8 being combined, or something along those lines.
Just wanted to comment on what seems like a ongoing issue (at least for Yakks Bend) where spies from other servers deliberately build massive amounts of siege to waste supply. Like take for example today, we had someone (most likely from FA since they do like to do this) who spent hours building 18 pointless trebs in our garrison. Sadly we were left impotently unable to do anything at all about this, so I was just wondering if anyone thought this was an issue that was widespread enough to need to be be addressed by ArenaNet.
Why do you assume it was someone from FA? Is it because someone from YB started it by using up 1500 supply to build useless trebs in FA garri on Saturday, and then wasted even more supply building trebs on top of FA Bay supply depots on Sunday? Pathetic to see your server cheat like this and still lose.
Since anet will clearly not do anything themselves, they should really deputize some players on each server to ban anyone siege-trolling if caught red-handed.
Do you not use a mouse? That might be an issue.
Wow, a topic about Ranger being OP. Seriously.
Anyway, LB is a terrible weapon IMO. But fear not, it will be replaced in a few months by the staff XD.
If you go powerbuild and stay behind in blobfights you can definitely down 5-10 ppl without a problem. Zoom in on a squishy ele and instadown him
Hm – only if you have an upleveled ele or someone running full berserker and someone who eats the whole load at max range … other than that you won’t *insta*down anything at full health with LB2.
But it’s nice for picking off already weakened targets and ’Sic’em’ is such a nice thing to do to a thief …
Not really. I was messing around on my ranger in EB yesterday against SBI’s blob and was downing a squishy every 10-15 seconds and none were uplevels. At 15k per RF, it doesn’t take very long. Of course, in order to do that, I was basically full zerker. Not surprisingly, the easiest classes to kill were, you guessed it, power rangers.
I hope it is a bug. If someone is actually using a hack or an exploit to prevent whoever killed them from getting a scrap of leather, that is probably the most pathetic thing I ever heard.
All of those stuff were asked for but implemented poorly.
EoTM as a place to hang around while in a queue is fine, but it’s a joke of a map. Pretty but useless to actually play WvW in.
We (players) made eotm a joke of a map. Take a guild in there looking for fights and you get screamed at by your own side for screwing up the rotation. Kill an enemy blob, and people quit the instance in search of one where they can karma train in peace.
Seriously, anet just needs to combine the populations of tiers 4 – 8 into one alliance for wvw and get it over with.

I’d love to see each towers and keeps have a maximum number of points worth of siege that can be spent for defense. For example, make trebs worth 4 points, catas and ballistas worth 3 points, and ac’s worth 2 points. Then give each objective a cap on the number of points that can be spent sieging it up, like 10 points for towers and 20 for keeps. Defenders would then have to be smart about siege placement and not just dump siege on every gate and wall.
The ranger LB buff finally made ranger a viable class for zerging in wvw. Not meta, but viable. I finally dusted off my ranger last week for wvw because of this post just to see if rangers are OP. Just like before, LB power ranger only plays one role effectively and that is sniping. Now they just do it a little bit better. IMO, if you are whining about LB #2, you are either too squishy or a thief. And since thieves typically whine about any class that can beat them (because lets face it, thieves could care less about balance and just want to “win”), they don’t really count.
That being said, if you are playing zerker LB ranger, you better have a pretty big melee train to protect you while you pierce the enemy blob. If not, you are a rally bot. Regen/condi melee ranger is much more effective as roamer, but just like before the patch, pretty much useless to a zerg.
