Found a solution to the second bug I sighted: You have to fool around with the swords attack skills while stood in the circle to get the personal story step to complete. It should just complete soon as you enter the circle though.
Bug #1: After retrieving the scabbard, it becomes like an equipped weapon. However, if you go onto land while you have it— the item vanishes completely. Preventing the personal story line step from completing.
Bug #2: While still under water, if you drop the scabbard just of land’s edge. You can go onto land and pick the scabbard up while on land. Letting you get past the vanishing scabbard bug. However, when you take the scabbard into the destination green circle the personal story line does not progress. It remains at the stage which says “Escape with the scabbard.”
Oh there’s a thread about this already? ><
I couldn’t zone out of Gendarran fields, it kept causing my load screen to stuck and even throw way point contested messages (when the way point in question I was going to is impossible to contest.)
I was invited to do a mini dungeon with my guild, so I logged in my character and tried to zone into the nearest location I had— specifically the norn home town. First 6 attempts yielded nothing, the map would not load— stuck at the load screen. On the 7th attempt it said that the norn home town waypoints were contested, which is impossible and then bumped me back to Gendarren fields (place my engineer was located.) After trying 10 times and losing my place in the group the game finally lets me waypoint into the norn home town.
Summary: Some characters on an account cannot seemingly access very much accessible waypoints that CANNOT be contested ever. Only one of my characters could not access the town, all of my others could waypoint in instantly.
I have a female human bank alt with that style and it’s not that they changed the hair physically. Well, that’s how it seems to me when I look closely at my character. It’s that the remainder of the hair seems to vanish into the character’s back now for some unknown reason. Mega clipping.

Between Miss, Obstructed and Invulnerable. Rangers seem to be blind as a bat. Not masters of nature, survival and ranged combat.
Totally agree.
Lol. If you use your ranged damage to hit a target on another platform, let’s say in a jump puzzle for arguments sake. The monster becomes immune+stands still doing nothing and you become perma combat flagged (can’t jump normally anymore), with the only option being re-logging to lose the combat flag and then once you’re re-logged you have to jump to the platform the monster is on to charge it like you’re a warrior.
It’s funny in a sad way.
Sucks that I rolled this class, cause im the one character type person when it comes to MMOS I have no desire to make alts
Oh I’m the same, mostly. I usually make one character and stick with it for a very long period. When I played guild wars 1 from beta to the 6 year mark, I only had one character – an female ele. The nearer the end I wanted a little change so I made a ritualist before moving over to here.
But with this game I like it so much, that I could bring myself to make an alt that I’ll play a lot, but just one though so that I’ll keep having fun experiences (rather than no playing at all!) I would love to see the ranger class in the state it was supposed to be in, but as it is— I find it sad and not much fun to play anymore. Well, until it’s where it should be I’ll be working on an asura engineer and hoping for the best for the ranger.
Excellent. This gives me time enough to finish leveling my engineer to 80, but when dragon timers pop I’ll use my ranger then, since it’s the only level 80 character I have at the current moment.
I wonder, to all who have 4/5 … at um what was it—phase1/2?Were you stuck at 2/5 completed while everyone else had 3/5?
It is a great concept but when forced to try figure it out from scratch with several parties worth of strangers, of varying races and height sliders blocking your view— it turned what should have been fun task into a stress-fest. I spent many hours trying to get it down, but I got done eventually. I’ve completed it 3 times now, one on each different character. I done the jumps by memory alone, since 90% of the time I could not see my character(s), so there’s only memory to go by.
I’d like to see more tough puzzles like this, but outside of festive events and single player instanced too.
I usually hate PVP modes, this includes WvW. But I do really, really enjoy the PVP modes in the Halloween event.
It’s kind of annoying. I use sword/dagger, with a flame burst sigil on the sword for more aoe damage. But if I have AA off on skill one, pressing 1 over and over sends me flying away from the monsters I’m trying to attack (and sometimes even of high ledges )
So if I put AA on skill 1 then I get rooted to the target, no more flying about the map (whew) but it’s more time consuming to dodge out of red circles.
But I do like how you seem to kick and slash at the target during its animation though, just please no more flying about the map or getting glued to the spot.
I got onto my main server, with people only from my server (no overflow), then… we all got login server error messages
The group broke up, joined another, none of us were in overflow again… but when we tried to enter, it dumped us in separate instances
gave up trying to group and go in solo, because people were saying it was solo-able, but it wouldn’t let me enter solo— no error message, no entry, nothing.
Tried re-logging, got locked out and now just got back in game.
Firstly, IT IS NOT A JUMP PUZZLE, it is gauntlet of death with a harsh time limit.
I finally managed it after 15 or so hours of trying. In the final run what got me through to the end was:
1)Focus , focus, focus, clear your mind of all other thoughts
1A) Imagine that the other players are graphical effects of the sludge and going to vanish soon
2) Find a jumping rhythm and direction that works for you (usually staying close to the right side works.)
3) Memorize your jumping plan and do it every time— the repetition will pay off big time.
4) Stay calm, play relaxing music if you have to. Because if your heart gets giddy or you get frustrated— you have a low chance of making it to the end.
5) LAUGH AT YOUR MISTAKES
What I posted yesterday stands, I still feel that this “jump puzzle” is too hard and the designers have stated that it is only got the top 5% off the player base. I won’t be doing this puzzle again for kicks, I hate the thing and now I don’t have to go back. What’s even better is that my perfectionist side is satiated, yay.
I hope that they don’t introduce any more elitist content into the game.
Yeah, I only want the achievement too.
Same here. Forget the boots, I got multiple exotic sets already.
Hiding was what I did at my third attempt at it, when I did eventually hide I made it to two minutes remaining. What I did notice though was the fact that villagers won all the time. I found out why soon when looking for good hiding spots.
Specifically, the map is riddled with wall glitches you can use to go through and get out of the normal map area. When I saw that I couldn’t be bothered playing the mode anymore and went to do the pvp pumpkin mode thing.
Make this soloable, or remove timer. Or make some easy/normal/hard ways for those, who want challenge. Personally me does not feel ANY enjoyment or fun. That’s the most annoying and frustrating part of your halloween. Someone want the challenge? Make hard version of the this jumping “puzzle” with much more faster timer. And give us the easy version, please. Because you don’t have even 1 second to redo jumps, even if you jump successful, but had to spend 1-2 seconds, because lags, bunch of people jumping around, or something else – you screwed.
EVERY player shoul get the opportunity to get his fun. I hate event with the time run, i want to nake this jump puzzle, and get my amount of fun, but instead of it, i should spend for a few hours, trying to, at least, see my character, in a crowd. And don’t say to me “don’t want? don’t do”, because that “puzzle” is a part of a halloween event, and it won’t stay forever, so you MUST do this “puzzle”, if you want to complete event.
I am very angry and frustrated now, and i don’t see what so funny in jumping for a 2-3 hours.
That is personally my opinion.
I agree. My friend managed it after 2 hours, but she’s an ele with a passive speed buff, so she was always miles ahead of the pack with no need to worry about the player clustering. I have as yet to complete it.
It is part of the umbrella of Halloween events, so it should share the same difficulty as the rest of the tasks. As festive events like this are supposed to be fun and relatively easy to do by everyone. If they just wanted to add a sadistic jump puzzle to the game, they should have then, but put it under the jump puzzle section for the love of something, not under the Halloween section.

If one traitline gave you everything you wanted in your spec there wouldn’t be much diversity now would there?
This is why we can’t make a good build. In GW1 traps comes under wilderness not expertise (skirmish) trait line. They really need to sort us out big time.
No one wants that. What they and I want are the specific trait skills to be in their proper trait lines they’re meant for. Not randomly thrown into random trait lines for the hell of it or because they ran outta time.
The chests are on 24 hour cool downs, well that’s what the Halloween section says— because of exploiters
Keep it as is. BUT make the achv easier to get. for example for trying the tower. or part of the way and keep the chest for the lucky few to make it. i have given to much time in trying this and failing mainly because there to many people and i cant see what im doing. or make it so only a few people ( 5 or 6) are grouped and run it together. but 10+ mae it a lot harder atleast for a lot of people i was with to complete. I for one could care less for the chest i just want the ach so i can move on to other event stuff…
Same. The chests in the realm only drop trash greens now anyway thanks to exploiters. If the achievement was easier to get then that would be great. And all those hardcore WoW expacks could be left to chase the chest happily and troll the then probably silent complaint threads about it.
My main is an asura, I cannot even see my character when doing the jumps, so it’s 100% guess work!
Festive events are supposed to be fun, and this is anything but fun.
So dont do this only do the festive stuff headdesk
So you’re saying that because a puzzle is badly thought out and badly implemented that I should stop trying to complete the Halloween event? I don’t think so.

Seriously, instance this puzzle. It is hard enough that you need to make every move perfectly and on time. But to have to try do it with people view blocking you? This makes it so much harder.
Initially I was under the impression that costume brawl was for people who put on a costume/activate the cauldron, allowing them to costume brawl with each other. However, it seems that’s not only the case.
I was at Earthshake WP waiting out the last random 0 – 10 minutes for the Claw of Jormag dragon event. I left to make a hot drink and when I came back I found my inches away from being knocked into the underground caves that run through the area and happen to be monster infested by a player in a candy corn costume. So I moved back to a safe place and saw about 4 cauldrons and lots of people in pig/frog/candy corn outfits bashing each other.
Is this really how costume brawl is supposed to be used? Attacking players who aren’t in costume and are just trying to go about normal play?
Please make it so that costume brawl attacks can only be used on other players who activate the cauldron— not everyone.
Same. Plus it seems weird to me that end game reward weapons don’t soulbound on acquire. There are lots of them listed on the trading post.
Same thing. An instance entry was added but no instance exit was added along with it.
Primarily I use sword/dagger, with shortbow for pulling/dungeons. Sometimes it (sword+dagger) throws me halfway across the screen (slot 1 skill of sword) also it usually does not let me dodge once the slot 1 sword attack skill begins (sometimes causes death.) Other than that it’s fun.
(edited by Parvati.5780)
Someone in my guild tried re-doing the Arah story this morning so that they could get back inside the area, but the reward NPC was not there.
It’s sad, we finally get the token and it says that we should go to claim our prize— only to find out that the door is borked.
They get insta-gibbed pretty much everywhere and are only mildly survivable if you load 30 points into the BM trait tree. Besides that, they don’t hit moving targets, my ranger can run faster to the target than its pet can and they’re horrid if you’re fighting mobs with stealth capability.
But that’s not what annoys me the most, it’s that they pop out of being stowed when your ranger takes the slightest amount of damage. Which is a real pain when you’re trying to do a jumping puzzle and it keeps popping out— ruining your view of the next jump step. Make pet-stowing perma, until you choose to have them out again please.
Lol. I’m so glad others feel the same way about this. I especially hate it when my Sylvari gets a crippled effect on her. She makes this terrible “Ooooooaaaaaaah!” sound and won’t stop until the end of the duration. I play a thief so she also does this weird yell everytime I use death blossom. It’s very annoying.
The rate these sound effects occur should be toned down. Maybe every 10th hit or something. Or only if a crit lands.
I completely agree, the cripple sound is really-seriously-annoying. If you’re fighting earth elementals then you pretty much hear it non stop. It forces me to mute the game.
I used to work on completing the slayer achievements with my ranger, but now I feel like if my character is seen slaying a certain monster 1-2 hours that it will stack bot reports because everyone is used to seeing ranger bots and just reports them out of a reflex action now.
So yeah, summary: I am concerned that because of the amount of ranger bots going about with the MF lvl 80 exotic set equiped (I have this armor) that I’ll get wrongly reported and maybe even wrongly banned. My guild leader says this wouldn’t happen and that even if my character was wrongly reported nothing would come of it, but I’m not risking it. So I’m only playing my Ranger in dungeons+dragon events and when not doing that I am on either my Engineer or Thief.
(edited by Parvati.5780)
Playing between an engineer and thief (I like the engineer the most though now), but I do still use my ranger for dungeon runs with my guild.
So THIS is why so many people were able to home in on my character (even when it was in obscure spots) in EB. Kind of makes me regret putting the effort in to get 100% completion.
So after ignoring the ranger forum for some days (it was too depressing to read) and having just read the latest posts, from official replies to player replies: seemingly none of the people managing class balance EVEN play as a ranger. JonPeters apparently plays a warrior mainly and manages class balance too (comment withheld.) Anyway, it is THEIR game so they can run it down into the ground all like as far as I am concerned. If they wish to continue to make warrior into a god-like class then that is their choice also.
Passing thought, after having lavished much time and effort into making my ranger good I feel, or should I say felt a great concern when seeing how the staff were wrecking the class ball and chain style. In the long run though, the people managing class balance answer to people above. So if their actions are not professional and are driving customers away then they will no doubt run into trouble from above.
P.S.: I agree completely with MrLee’s post.
Yeah that’s right about our weapons and right about the pets— the search and rescue skill and bit of added DPS too. I suppose it is just as silly as the continual increase and ever easier trigger of anti farm code over the last couple of weeks or so. As a saying goes: “What they give you with one hand, they take away with the other.” So they loosened the screws on the anti farm code a bit with the last patch but then mauled the primary botter weapon of choice. Theory yes, but it’s better to rule all possibilities in than out.
Well, I still hope that it’s just a simple mistake like NinjaKnight said.
Pretty sure Jon Peters and Jonathan Sharp are the heads of the Systems/PvP team for GW2. If Jon Peters said he’s going to look into it, he’ll look into it. If they determine a mistake was made, they’ll fix it. It’s that simple.
It’s a crappy bug, but it doesn’t make the class unplayable. Deal with it for a little while or take a break from the class. Just relax and let them do their jobs.
What really bothers me the most about this change is, I never saw ANYONE ever complain about a Crossfire animation bug or problem nor did I see anything from anet talking about a known Crossfire bug, yet this gets thrown into a patch out of the blue.
There have been many other problems (sword attack skill #1 for example) that have been talked about for weeks but seems to be nothing from anet about these. Until I hear otherwise, this was a coverup or excuse to nerf the shortbow.
That’s my primary beef….
Well, most of the botters I saw were rangers toting shortbows. So I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the real reason the ranger’s shortbow got hit.
I remember seeing a post here that said it wasn’t a bug, but that they hadn’t bothered/got around to adding space for pet names to store server side.
Wow, contrary to the title of that video (“GW2: Warriors so weak in WvW”) it just shows how over powered warriors really are. She walked into a sea of enemy players and killed most of them by herself, then ran of to the next group. Heck, she even had time to try res someone as a new large group of players started attacking her. The funniest bit in that video is when about what… 40+ enemy players charge her and she dies and then says that a warrior is so weak for not being able to kill 40+ players at once? lol.
Comparing what that warrior did to what rangers can do just made another bit of my hope for ranger improvements die.
I think you’re missing the sarcasm bro.
I always am
But to make sure I put my reply to the topic question. I would change my ranger to a thief (if anet plans no fixes for rangers) + if all my stuff earned went over with it.

I played as a ranger through out all of the BWEs etc and since launch and spent over 200g+ on it. But this most recent nerf puts “puts the tin lid on it” so to speak. I’ve already started out with a thief, it’s lvl 2 but it’s my main now and I have shelved my ranger, despite how fond I am of it.
As it is, ever patch nerfs the ranger that bit more and they have yet to fix any of the massive amount of outstanding bugs with the ranger.
And another ranger weapon bites the dust. Looks like I’ll be doing melee when playing alone and only using shortbow when in a dungeon. I get more DPS and speed out of my blade-dagger combo now.
I wonder what the next patch notes will say? hm… “Ranger maximum health reduced by 60% to fix an animation issue.”
Whoever is managing the ranger side of things must really hate rangers, because all i see is nerf after nerf and no fixes to obvious things like pet AI.
(edited by Parvati.5780)
Looks like I mixed the obscured bug messages with obstructed bug messages. I logged my ranger in, switched it from melee to short bow and went into a guild party for all the AC explorable paths.
Like 3/7 shots with short bow and longbow registered as “obstructed.” Great. Not. Now I have to deal with target obscured and target obstructed error messages while doing simple ranged attacks on my ranger.
When I was trying to get this done the eye became permanently immune to damage mid-battle about 6 times in a row. One time the Trahaerne NPC even got stuck in a wall and the thing bugged out yet again.
I only managed to get it done by being very careful about how I damaged it, which is something I shouldn’t have had to do.
My ranger cannot hit stationary (hostile) targets most of the time. Short bow works? nope. Longbow with its arrow shower skill works? nope. My pet won’t even attack them. It’s always say that message “blah blah target is obscured.” When quite clearly it is not obscured.
Only way I can hit stationary targets for the most part is to pull out a melee weapon and stand right on top of the target.
I haven’t seen any yet. Been killing dredge for about an hour (which is absolutely painful for a thief) and nothing.
This is a problem for some people guys.
I got mine of those son’s of svanir monsters.
An immediately memorable character for all the right reasons. A mini of him would be great.
Yes, the lack of re-homing onto the target after it comes out of stealth in both PVP and PVE is annoying. As well as the long delay when activating the F2 skill (it should instantly activate.)
What gets me the most is the long delays before attacking. When you tell a bird to attack it will spin around you for 1-2 seconds then start attacking, even then its attack rate is not that fast once it starts. Other pets have the annoyingly slow animations holding up attack too. They should just fly/run to attack the target right away— lose the excess animations that ultimately speed up one’s demise.
There are also some areas around the world map where pets refuse to run across to attack a monster. So you have to run to the monster, then you pet will teleport appear beside you and start attacking it after about 5 seconds (if you’re lucky!)
(edited by Parvati.5780)
My character is female. So:
In my opinion a lot of the available ranger armor looks same-ish, Sylvari cultural sets (for me) are the only sets to break away a little from that generic look (my character is a Sylvari.)
The worst medium armor I have seen comes from the karma armor vendors in Orr, everyone vends the identical look set with different stats. Yes it is exotic, yes its stats are decent but wow it really is ugly.
(edited by Parvati.5780)
spirits get one shotted now?
Non-ranger players in SPVP were complaining that ranger spirit builds were too “OP” so in one of the past patches Anet massively nerfed the health of spirits to the point that they’re barely useful. What’s worse is that monsters seem to zone in on them quickly since that patch.
