Will this laptop run GuildWars 2?

Technically it will run it, but it will run slow even at low settings. So playable? Probably not.

I got gw2 running on my old t400 thinkpad with integrated graphics, but it’s not a good playing experience.

I have the exact same issues as the OP. It’s been happening since February on and off though.

I have a i7-3770k cpu so that helps with how cpu dependent the game is, but I only have a gtx 670 gpu, so less than the OP on that one.

I think it is a gpu crash from my own gpu crash logs. I read that gw2 and Nvidia have had some compatibility issues from the get go.

Just wanted to mention, I got a similar heap error as the OP: my logs and such are on the https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Crashing-due-to-a-Invalid-Character-Motion/page/2#post4302318 because most of my crashes come from the CharMotion issue.

But I do have a 64 bit OS.

For the OP, yes, he is not using his ram efficiently, but that doesn’t mean that this specific gw2 crash is occurring for him because of his configuration. With the current information, there is no way to without a doubt say one way or another. After the next patch he may not notice any more errors, even with an unstable config. And considering the gw2 site specifies that 2gb is enough to run gw2, the OP has the option to remove RAM and keep his 32bit OS (as mentioned above but not by tech support). That would make his system “stable” as well.

Are there any guilds on Tarnished Coast?

in Looking for...

Posted by: Penarddun.6827

Penarddun.6827

I’ve been searching through the guild recruitment board and found a bunch of amazing sounding guilds but they aren’t on TC…and I’d really like to be able to do some WvW with the guild I join plus give actual influence and all.

I’ve been searching on and off for months now and haven’t really found anything.

Are there any guilds on TC that are small to medium in size, do a little of everything and are dedicated but not so much to require specific builds, massive applications, etc.? I found one guild that looked promising but the application process was so long and detailed it really put me off. From my perspective, I have no way of knowing if I’d even like the guild or its members so to put in something akin to a college application before even partying up with some of the members seemed like overkill. I’d prefer just hoping on a chat service as validation, if that’s the concern. It’s quicker and then I can spend the time actually playing the game with them.

There was a guild in Field of Ruins the other day that was doing a Map Completion run, but I forgot to get their name. They seemed like a fun group, but then they might have been on a different server.

I have a couple real-life friends who played and got me into the game and then flaked out and don’t really play anymore. Although I love roaming around and soloing stuff, I need some social interactions, ha.

Any suggestions?

I actually only have 1 level 80 character so I’d probably have to go the Laurel route if they are available that way.

It would be cool if the reward items were stored in our living story quest area and didn’t take up inventory space.

Also, do you have to craft the first one: Mysterious Vine to be eligible to craft the second version?

I was thinking maybe I would just craft the components and sell them instead of out and out destroying the rewards.

I’m not really into the whole crafting thing right now, but I might be in the future. So I’m curious as to where to store all these account bound rewards from the Living Story. They are starting to really add up and taking up all my inventory spaces. If I delete them (like the Mysterious Seed, Ley Line Infused Stone, etc.) can I get them back again ever?

What am I supposed to do with all these items if I don’t want to craft the backpack right now?

Also, can you still make the first one (Mysterious Vine)? Or is only the second one craft-able now? Because I liked the look of the first one better.

Penardunn didn’t it get written in your journal? Some of the Nerraverine quests were crazy, I could fly over mountains and walk on water but couldn’t find a kitten cave or was it a shrine no matter how many times I read the instructions, god that was a good game. If only I hadn’t been tortured by those bloody cliff racers while I tried lol

Oh you’re right, it was written in the journal, I forgot about that. I died so much in that game.

I wonder if there would be a way to use a random generator to create new explorable zones. Maybe 1 map zone only, that would change up every week or month.

We actually get a map… with labels! I feel spoiled.

I remember playing Morrowind where a random NPC gave me a long list of directions. You had to write it down because they were all like this, “at the gnarled tree, turn left, then walk until you see a half decaying signpost, etc.” That was exploring. You had to draw your own map.

Toxic players when Tequatl is up

Penarddun.6827

I think it comes from the fact that the players are frustrated with the grind-like nature of having to farm drops from these bosses day in and day out, and want to do it as quickly as possible, so they get annoyed when the situation isn’t optimal.

Not right, but understandable considering how much repetitiveness is in the end game farming. Would drive anyone a little batty.

Ignore them, or don’t look at the chat window at all. Then they can’t hurt you.

Ok, let me rephrase that. I have rabid gear I can test it out on too. Would the dire gear specified in the Napalm Cat build still be the best choice, in comparison to the rabid? I’m just curious as to why dire was used in the build.

Is there a texture mod?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Penarddun.6827

I usually just close my eyes and button mash until everything is dead. This of course, doesn’t always work, because it can be hard to find the time between when you’ve killed everything and when the next respawn is. It can be a small window.

For me it’s very much visual, specifically the movements. Putting the mouse/cursor over them doesn’t bother me at all. Having the camera overhead is definitely the biggest help. The old RPG top down camera view option made it so much easier to deal with them.

Penarddun.6827

There are a few ‘tricks’ which help even further, like tab targeting so I don’t have to click on them and keeping the camera zoomed out and overhead so they look further away. As long as I don’t accidentally swing around and get a close-up on their face it’s ok.

How do you manage that when you can’t zoom the camera out? I’m doing the Priory quest where you need to get the bones to light the torches and they force you to go into that tiny little alcove with spiders to get them. There is no way to zoom the camera out and they are literally in my characters face, super close up, the entire time.

As long as they are far away I can manage too. Is there a camera zoom out mod by any chance? Or a setting that keeps the camera at a certain distance?

I’m curious exactly how the sigil of corruption works.

I thought that as long as you don’t move zones and are not downed that you keep the stacks of condition damage.

However, after building up 25 stacks I was just fighting random mobs and the stacks completely disappeared. Is this supposed to happen?

I had built them up with my spear (that’s where the sigil is) and then went on land, but the stack held for a few fights and then disappeared.

Is this normal behavior or is something wrong here?

Yep, that’s the one. I’m thinking that if it is a hint, it may only trigger before a character goes to WvW the first time.

You know….GW2 has a problem with queues. I’ve no idea if Hints are in any way associated with any of the queues, but it may be worth a try to empty out anything waiting for pick-up at the TP as well as all your mail (and anything else that might possibly be queued). I mean, it can’t hurt. Just a random thought I had.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I tried clearing all my queues, but nothing triggered. It was worth a shot though.

Is there a texture mod?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Penarddun.6827

Penarddun.6827

I didn’t want to make a new topic, but I am curious if using texture mods/skins has been discussed since this thread was started.

I understand where your friend is coming from and it really is a major issue. I modded Skyrim and the dragon age games (a dev actually made one for the community himself as a kindness) and pretty much every rpg with spiders because of my own phobia. When I have the option to mod them into bears or something, I do it.

Luckily for me, gw2 spiders are just below the realistic threshold for me so I can deal with the small ones just to finish map completion, quests, etc. I still get severely creeped out but I can get through it. But the large ones, specifically the one in Cursed Shore, and the skill point in Mount Malestrom do trigger the phobia badly to the point where I have to shut down the game client. Something about the camera angle and that they are on top of the character probably.

It would be great if a texture mod of some sort was usable. Even if you couldn’t change the actual models, changing the skins/texture by making them pink with polka dots might be enough to make it playable for those with this phobia.

I was told this phobia is actually a holdover from a survival instinct from thousands of years ago, but in the modern world where fantasy games are obsessed with using them, it can be a real fun killer.

Game Updates: Wardrobe, Transmutation, Outfits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Penarddun.6827

Penarddun.6827

Before the wardrobe was introduced, I saved armor/clothes items that I liked in my bank so I could swap them on and off of a character to see which one I liked best after playing with it for a while. I thought that with the ability to reskin things I would free up inventory space and have more flexibility.

Honestly, I feel like I have less, and I’ve pretty much abandoned concentrating on how my character looks. I’m not going to pay transmutation charges to wear some armor skin for a few hours to decide if I like it or not, and then have to pay another set of charges to switch to another and play for a while and see if I like that one. It’s too expensive and wasteful in my opinion.

The wardrobe is a great idea, but the transmutation charge requirement just depletes all the fun out of it for me. It’s not a carefree decision anymore. Just another thing I have to rudiment over so I don’t make the wrong choice because I have to pay for that wrong choice.

I read a suggestion that some people had for having free reskins for lower level characters and have the reskin cost transmutation charges for level 80 characters instead. It think that would be a lot better because then I could mess around with lower level characters and see what skins I actually like best before committing to one on my level 80.

This is also the major reason I don’t buy gem store costumes. I’m not going to buy a skin with my real money to have to either use it forever (meaning no reason to buy another one), or pay to reskin it? That’s ridiculous.

As it stands now I just ignore the wardrobe feature and most of the skins because there is basically no “try out” period.

Guild Bank Question

Penarddun.6827

Thank you for all this feedback. I didn’t realize how unsafe the guild vault is. Currently everyone in our guild is marked as leader. I do know everyone in the guild in real life and even if I was on their server would still feel pretty comfortable storing stuff there, but I definitely did not think about a possible account hack and Anet not restoring guild contents. That’s really important to know. I’m 99.9% sure no one from my guild is transferring to my server, they wouldn’t spend the real life cash to do that or would be interested in switching.

Also, thank you for mentioning this: “NEVER click leave guild on your personal guild. You will leave the guild on all characters and unless you have someone else as a guild member who can invite you, that guild is gone. Permanently.”

I had no idea this was the case. I’m wondering though, if I were to leave on my server and my friend on his invites me back, will my guild bank on my server still be intact?

It sounds like maybe upgrading the guild vault on my server wasn’t the best idea… only lost uhhh…. 2500 influence or so on that so I guess not that big a deal. Although the personal guild vault seems to have its pitfalls too.

I wish there was a deposit feature for the regular account bank. Would make it a lot easier.

Guild Bank Question

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Penarddun.6827

Penarddun.6827

I would have made a personal guild, but seeing as with the megaservers, guilds may eventually be combined, so I wanted to use my influence toward something worthwhile assuming it gets pooled sometime in the future.

The specific reason that prompted this want of gold storage is that I accidentally listed something for way more gold than I intended to on the TP and lost quite a bit on the listing fee, so I’d prefer to eliminate an accidental mouse click fiasco in the future. I figured storing my gold in the guild vault would be a nice safety feature and not keep more than a few gold in my wallet/inventory on a regular basis.

Also, when you click “leave guild” on one character does that make you leave the guild on all characters?

Guild Bank Question

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Penarddun.6827

Penarddun.6827

I tried searching for this question on the forums, but the search function doesn’t seem to be working. Is there some trick to getting it to work?

I’m wondering about my guild bank and how safe it is to store gold/items in there. I am in a guild of real life friends, but I’m the only person in the guild who is on my server. So I can’t access the main guild bank. Instead I made my own guild vault from my own influence. I’m wondering if it is safe to store gold in there. Is there any possibility it could be deleted/removed by accident from the other members on the other server? Can I step down from the guild with one of my characters and still access it if I Re-represent later, etc.? Also are there any other issues/glitches associated with the guild vault?

Also is there any way to store gold in your own personal bank or is that just for items?
Thanks

Are there any viable zerg Mesmer solo builds?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Penarddun.6827

Penarddun.6827

Thanks for the responses. I do mean mostly PvE events (although the few times I’ve done WvW it was only slightly better than my PvE experience), so I could use recommendations for both.

I’ll try to be a little more specific with what I tend to experience and maybe that will help narrow down the answers.

Staying alive is never really an issue, unless I fling myself next to a champion with an AOE effect and forget to dodge. I usually try to tag the mobs that have the most health, so that I can get in a reasonable percent of damage, but everyone else does so much damage so quickly that I don’t end up making the percent requirement to get any loot. This is all during random running around during dynamic events that don’t have a high health champion. I do get loot from bosses about 50% of the time because it takes enough time to kill them that I’m able to build up my damage over time.

I’ve never been a fan of shattering (except when I use it to apply torment), but if that is something that is successful in larger group events I could work on getting more comfortable with it. Personally, I find the greatsword awkward but that’s just my playstyle I think. Do any specific weapons work better in large groups?

I haven’t really invested in any decent runes/sigils yet. Could that alone make the difference? Other than traveler (which is nice for the speed bonus at #6), are there any others that come to mind?

I don’t have a lot of gaming time between 18 credits a semester and 9 during the summer, so leveling to 80 is not a trivial thing for me. I would have liked to have my first level 80 character be more useful in end game content.

Yet without the Mesmer… I may not have bought the game.

I say roll a warrior. High DPS and heavy armor.

There’s a few bosses you can easily learn the mechanics and use blurred frenzy or your block sword skill to stay safe, but there are too many bosses that randomly throw out a 1 or 2 hit on light armored classes that make it no fun at all to be light armor and especially melee. If we don’t play berserker no groups want us, if we play the meta S/S S/F we get downed too often or it becomes too tedious to play and survive.

I agree with you on the Greatsword. The Greatsword would be fun if the AA wasn’t so poor, if the distance = damage was removed, and the AOE damage was increased.

It’s odd, I’ve actually never rolled a warrior in any game I’ve ever played. I wouldn’t go so far as to say I have an aversion toward them, the profession just never interested me in comparison to the others. But I may as well give it a try and see if I like it.

I usually use a combination of blurred frenzy and feedback to stay relatively safe, but the cooldown is long on feedback and I find getting stuck in blurred frenzy wastes time and does more harm than good. It’s kind of like doing a survival dance the entire battle. Sure I can stay alive, but I won’t be doing any damage. I do enjoy null field. I can pretty much keep myself condition free almost the entire time by dodging and using null field.

I started working with mantras the other day after I read two detailed guides on them. But they seem out of place in WvW and group PvE stuff.

I don’t know. I started an elementalist a couple weeks ago who is pretty fun, the game seems a lot easier with her than my mesmer…. and I still don’t even know what half the elementalist skills do. :/

Posted by: Penarddun.6827

Penarddun.6827

I started out with only a Mesmer in 2012 and reached level 30ish, then after a month of playing had to stop (real life stuff), and didn’t get back into the game until a few months ago. I leveled my Mesmer to 80 in a few weeks by doing the personal story and exploring mostly. Haven’t done dungeons yet because I have trouble finding a group. Well to be honest I haven’t really tried to look for a dungeon group. I usually play solo or with a few close friends (who kinda quit lately).

I love the concept of the profession (that’s why I picked it as my first profession), and there are some really inventive skills and when roaming around in PvE, I do enjoy it. Unfortunately, that’s where it ends.

I’ve read every guide, tried all the different builds, and am actually pretty good at not dying under normal circumstances. Even impressed a friend the other day how I stayed alive by using clones to distract and then kited and dodged till I whittled away at a champion by myself (it took a while).

Yet when I try to do any major group events during PvE, or WvW I feel utterly worthless. It’s not fun, at all. I can’t get in close enough to use my sword/sword which seems to do a big chunk of damage in regular pve, and my greatsword skills are a joke, they don’t seem to do any damage at all. I can do some interesting things with my focus, but only under specific circumstances. The pistol works pretty well when I don’t get hit with AOE effects. But I’ve been coming across so many fights with major AOE lately and I can’t do anything in that situation, because if I get in range to hit and actually do damage, I get killed almost instantly because I have no toughness/vitality stats at all. I’m using full berserker, btw.

I’m not an expert on the specific numbers behind all the skills and builds, etc. But from a reasonably dedicated player who plays a lot, I am not enjoying the end content at all. And that is really depressing.

I feel kind of gypped to be honest. The Mesmer is my favorite class in theory, I WANT to play this class, I put a lot of work into leveling this character, and I am not enjoying any of the level 80 stuff. I’d like to be able to get cool drops and start crafting things, but trying to do this content (as a Mesmer) is so disheartening and boring.

At this point, I’m starting to build up a few other characters to see if I will enjoy the game more as a different profession. As much as I want to play as a Mesmer I keep feeling upset that there’s all this awesome content I can access now, but I keep wishing I had a different profession to try it out with. Any suggestions which class might actually be satisfying at level 80 if I were to level a second one?

Computer Network Issues after playing GW2

I wish I could connect with Ethernet but unfortunately, I don’t have that option because of the room in which my computer is located. Still my WiFi usually has a download speed of 28 and upload speed of 25 until I play this particular game and get disconnected and then it gets sluggish. I have spoken to my ISP and they tell me I have the fastest connection they offer.

If it was just that my router could not handle high / frequent network traffic then wouldn’t this behavior have occurred previously before July 1st? And wouldn’t it also occur with other MMOs?

What is special about Guild Wars 2 in this respect?

are you using 802.11n to connect to your wifi?
Try using only a/b/g.

once i had a laptop that acted realy funny with type n connections.
The wifi card supported it, but it disconnected a lot.
Put the router back to 802.11a/b/g and the problem was gone.

Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll give that a try.

Guild Wars 2 connection issues (with theory)

This is a really good theory, thank you for posting it. I don’t have many people to try voice chatting with to test the second part, but as soon as I get the chance I will. I’m also going to ask my ISP about this (next time I call them up, they’ve heard from me a lot since I started playing) and see if they have any insight.

It seems that the game takes over my connection, like you said, and when the game disconnects it also sends a command to my computer, disconnecting my network card’s connection. So it’s not that my internet just stops working, it actually forces me to manually reset it on my PC.

My computer’s specs are a complete overkill for the requirements of this game, so there should be absolutely no issues.

I was just disconnected from the game again and again it disconnected the wireless connection between my computer and router. How is this acceptable in any way?

It would be nice to get some response from tech support explaining what is causing this so I know if my motherboard and its onboard wireless card are going to be damaged if I keep playing guild wars 2.

Any exploration based guilds around?

I’m on Tarnished Coast and I just finished leveling my main character to 80 (Human Mesmer). I’ve begun working on my alts who are all around level 25ish. Still I’m pretty new to the game in the sense that I haven’t had the opportunity to do many dungeons yet.

The guild I’m in currently is a few of my close friends but they aren’t online very often so I was hoping to find another guild with active members. Because these are my real life friends I would occasionally switch back to represent their guild while playing with them… a few times a month. I would hope to find a guild that is understanding of this.

I’m pretty much just exploring and farming resources at the moment so I can work on my crafting skills (although I would like to do some dungeons periodically) and enjoying the xp gained from exploration.

Are there any guilds that go on hearts/skill point/mining resources runs or just enjoy exploring, doing jumping puzzles, etc. and also have a social friendly aspect to them?

Computer Network Issues after playing GW2

I have been noticing this for the past few weeks. After playing GW2 for an hour (usually having to stop because of lag and disconnects), I quit the game and my network connection starts going in and out. I get the ! yellow triangle and I have to disconnect and reconnect several times. Even after this, when I try to browse the internet everything is super slow. (Note: I’m also getting the right mouse button/F key not selecting NPCs issue). Last night I went to speedtest’s website and my upload speed was none existent.

Originally I thought the computer might have a virus, so I went through multiple scans (finding nothing). After restarting my computer several times and resetting all my network configurations my computer started to act normal again. But then I play the next day and it starts all over again.

How exactly is the guild wars 2 client interacting with my pc and network configurations? Because I have never had these types of symptoms from any software use in the past.

I’m reluctant to even start up the client at this point because of how my computer reacts to it. If anyone can shed some light on what might be causing these issues, it will be appreciated.
