Greetings. I have been coming up short in my search for an Asuran only (or mostly Asura) role playing guild. I’ve seen lots of sylvari-only RP guilds, but not much love for Asuras. Which is insanity to me, since Asuras are glorious, but I digress…

If any members of an RP guild, or specifically an Asuran RP guild is out there reading this post, please respond or message me in game. I would love to find a lead to a new Asuran filled guild. Thank you!

Constant Crashes in Story Instances

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Penarddun.6827

Penarddun.6827

I have been getting about 4 to 5, sometimes more, crashes per hour.

It happens in the open world, but mostly when I am in the story instances in HoT. Which I’m sure everyone knows, is so frustrating because you can’t just pop back in to your story instance, you have to start from the very beginning, every time. -_- It is making HoT mostly unplayable at this point for me.

I read that there is a 32bit issue, but I am on a 64bit system.

It is a connection problem, I think. I get a black screen with the gw2 pop up saying I am having issues connecting to the server. I also notice that sometimes when this happens if I can alt-tab to desktop really fast, it shows that my network has turned off and then when I force exit the crashed game, my network pops back on to full bars.

My fiance also plays right next to me and never gets these issues (we are on the same network, but he uses an Ethernet cable because his computer is older, mine has a motherboard with wireless). I am assuming it has something to do with gw2 HoT having an incompatibility with something about my computer or maybe with using wireless. I don’t get this instability with other wireless/internet tasks, as my wireless is very strong, but I’m assuming this might be an issue. Is there something about the client that will boot a player if they don’t get confirmation that they are connected to the game for a half second or something?

Also, I notice it happens much more frequently when I am standing still… aka reading dialogue, etc. then when I’m moving around and fighting things.

How would I go about diagnosing this and trying to fix my gameplay experience?

Edit: The specific message I am getting is “the client cannot connect to the login server.”

I am trying to finish the last Chapter in Living Story Season 2, in order to be able to start HoT. But there is a huge bug with the “Pact Soldiers Rescued: 2/3” section of this quest. The third vine pod does not show up on the map, at all. There are only 2. This is game breaking.

I was trying to finish this content so I could play the expansion that I pre-purchased. And now I’m stuck.

My fiance is currently in the Underground Facility fractal and they got past the first room, and are at the point where the two paths diverge…. however it says that the mining lasers cannot be obtained, and yet the other path isn’t open either. The whole group has tried re-logging and dying but nothing changes.

We have all tried googling this problem and can’t seem to find any answers. Is this a new glitch? Is there a fix to reset the fractal? They are on their third one and really don’t want to have to wipe the whole thing.

Yes, I read that page, and re-read that page. Attaching the exact page I am referencing in my original post is obviously not helpful… :/

I realize the Ultimate says Additional Character Slot. But what I am trying to have clarification on is based on the wording with the ** which is a link that says when buying the Standard, you get an extra character slot if you bought the base game before the date specified.

My specific question is… if I buy the Ultimate, will that give me 2 character slots…. or will the “Additional Character slot” mentioned in the list be replaced/merged by the extra character slot received from the double asterisk noted bonus that the Standard gets as well?

Hopefully that made my original post more clear.

I want to make sure I am understanding the wording of the different HoT packages correctly.

If you buy the Standard HoT, do you get a character slot with that? There is an asterisk stating this on the page.

But it also says you will get an additional character slot with the ultimate edition.

Does this mean if I buy the Standard I will get 1 extra slot and if I buy the Ultimate, I will get 2 extra slots? Or does this mean that both the Standard and Ultimate get only 1 extra slot.

Thank you.

Edit: I bought my fiance the Standard edition today, and he didn’t receive the character slot. Does the extra slot get applied immediately or only at the release day of HoT?

Is there some reason mounts are just a “No”?

  • It always comes with the suggestion of removing waypoints, which would severely harm gameplay.
  • If mounts could travel faster than players on foot with swiftness, it would make the world feel much smaller in general.
  • Mounts would provide an unfair advantage to certain players in PvP.
  • Mounts display excessively large models for relatively small hitboxes, which can prove to be extremely annoying in groups.
  • Mounts are absolutely pointless. We already have far better.

Thanks for the clear list.

Has anyone ever considered mounts only be used in PvE? They wouldn’t really be fair to be part of PvP, I agree with you there.

It seems like it is mostly a speed thing, since the magic carpet and broom are already mounts in essence.

Penarddun.6827

I find RNG to always be what causes games to be stressful and not fun for me. So I try my best to avoid that content entirely. Even though I think this mini is one of the few that are actually cute and would be fun to have.

Unfortunately, the player base feeds the decision to use RNG. Whatever reasons (which can be guessed at for days) Anet has for using this system must be working for them. Maybe it’s a gold sink or a way to keep people in the game for longer periods of time. The reason doesn’t really matter. It seems to work.

The only way I see the RNG in this game ever being overhauled is if people stop playing along with it. That means not opening thousands of bags. Just open the ones you need to get enough cobs to buy what you want. That is promoting the token based system. I opened the amount I needed to get the cobs for Mini Zuzu and a recipe I hadn’t gotten last year. That’s it.

While players still grind for thousands of bags, and buy thousands more, RNG is working as intended (I’m assuming). What would happen if no one cared about Gwynefyrdd and didn’t waste a single gold buying bags on the TP? Supply would go up, the bags would be very low priced by the end of the event and no one would have participated, time-wise and gold-wise in the volume that was expected by Anet.

I doubt that will ever happen though, because it’s natural to want to have 100% completion of collections and obtain super hard to get items. And it saddens me that this experience has been so awful for many collectors. I too don’t like getting content I like dangled in front of me, so close, yet so far, locked behind RNG, but throwing away 100s or 1000s of gold for a slim chance to get one item… it seems counter productive, both for the player and as a means to get Anet to make any changes.

Just my take on it.

Why doesn’t RNG have a leveling mechanic, after you have gone through 10k bags, the chances go up, 20k, they go up again, etc.?

Would any players really be upset if everyone was guaranteed an account bound mini after opening 50k bags? I think at that point the player has certainly put in enough effort to warrant a reward.

Ascended versus Temple/Karma Armor?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Penarddun.6827

Penarddun.6827

Thank you for all the responses. You gave me a lot to think about.

I do love the design of the temple armor and would eventually want the skin, more so than the exalted armor that comes with crafted exotics. So spending the karma on that would not really be a waste, I hear karma is pretty easily obtainable, even though I only have about 400k, but I haven’t really done many karma specific activities.

My tailoring is a little over 400, so I could still work on crafting exotics. I made my current exotic by crafting and I do have another light armor character to make stuff for besides, so I guess keeping the karma armor for my main wouldn’t be such a big deal.

Ascended versus Temple/Karma Armor?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Penarddun.6827

Penarddun.6827

Ascended is a huge undertaking. I just feel like since this is for my main, if I get the karma exotics first and then months down the road eventually get ascended, I’ll be sitting on this really pretty karma armor that would be great to use on my alts, and can’t be given to any of them. Which to me is just a huge waste of a perfectly good set. Especially if I could have then used that karma to buy it for my alt who won’t ever have ascended stuff.

But again, ascended is a huge undertaking, and I really want to have this new set relatively soon to be able to do more diverse content.

Ascended versus Temple/Karma Armor?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Penarddun.6827

Penarddun.6827

With the recent trend to move toward Account bound equipment I’ve been trying to decide which new armor to get.

I want to get a secondary (different stated) set for my level 80 character and was looking into the Temple armor because I like what it looks like and it uses karma to purchase.

But then I read that it is soulbound, so I wouldn’t be able to share this second set with any of my other alts. Yet, I believe the Ascended gear is now account bound? (or did I misunderstand the feature update)

Do you think it’s worth to try and get an ascended set (it will be a berserker set) which is why I figured I would try and make it account bound if I could since it is useful for pretty much all the characters.

Or should I just spend the karma, and get the set cheaply with a cool skin and bind it to one character?

Any advice which way would be better to go?

Hmm? I must have thought you meant “swap weapon” effects happening on bundles. Such as getting swiftness when I pick up a “bone” bundle weapon.

Oh? I never heard about that, sounds like some bug or something.. if my slow mesmer would only knew that.. goodbye unreliable TC… :P just joking.

For PvE Mesmer I always equip a weapon slot with sigil of speed and murder everything in sight to maintain acceleration.

I’ve been doing the same thing the last couple of weeks on my Mesmer. I leveled my Mesmer to 80 months ago. Wish I had known what a difference it made a long time ago. I didn’t add the sigils until I already had 80% map completion, lol.

To keep this on topic, leveling my Mesmer to 80 was actually enjoyable for me and didn’t feel like a grind at all (crazy, I know). Still that was before the trait changes and the NPE. I can’t imagine leveling a Mesmer from scratch at this point.

To be more exact, you’re EXPECTED to reach level 12 now at about the same time you used to reach level 7. I’m not convinced that’s actually going to happen for new players.

Yeah, speed runs/grinds may be in line for this theory. But as a semi-casual player, I was able to get a character to level 15 in one sitting before the patch.

Now, my new character just got over level 12, but it took me days to accomplish. Thank goodness I was able to do the PS at level 10 (wish it had come sooner) to break up some of the monotony. These time comparisons are not universal for all players.

Yes, but how did you get through those first 10 levels? That’s the thing, the first 10 levels are so boring. I’m curious how many people actually kept playing to level 10 during this free trial.

Had the story started at level 1, and then been given to the player at 10 level intervals that would have been far superior than making them wade through 10 levels to get to the first story chapter. Although I personally liked to be able to do bits of the story when I started to feel like leveling was a chore. The story quest would give me a boost of experience and cut the monotony. But my personal preference aside, not starting the story at level 1 is still a bad idea. Where’s the hook for new players?

Had the story been done this way it would have been more in line with the original level to story quest too. As it is now, you don’t get to do the story until you are over-powered for most of it.

one hour is too long for a player to play with no compelling narrative.

^ this right here.

I finally convinced a friend of mine to give the game a try. She decided to play through the trial. She didn’t get past level 7 because she said it was boring. I told her to just keep at it, but she said there’s nothing to do.

I don’t understand why the decision to push the start of the personal story to level 10 was made. If there was a problem with key farming, just don’t put in a key as the reward for early stories. Make keys not be rewarded until level 20 or something. But the story itself is a way to retain players during the first few levels. It gives your character meaning and continues feeding off the customization done during character creation.

Hearts are not a hook into the game. The hearts have always been boring to me. Sure a few of them were amusing, like the sylvan hounds in Celadon Forest. I do remember that one fondly (which is changed now). But for the most part the hearts are dull. And Anet just added more of them and made them even more simplistic. I think a better solution would be to reduce the amount of hearts per map, but make the tasks to complete them more interesting. Make the hearts into mini quests/stories themselves. But in order to do that there needs to be less of them per map. They should be special, not just “how can I finish this as fast as possible to complete this map.”

Question about Personal Story progression

I know the PS has been changed to every 10 levels but I’m really confused as to where I am in the story. My ranger was in the 50s when I finished The Priory Assailed (I think this is the last Priory story?) and Retribution (the Claw Island battle). I did them right before the patch, the day before I think.

Now my ranger just got to level 60, so I thought another set of PS quests would open. It even said that on my level up window, that the next PS was available, and I got the mail for the dungeon for level 60 opening. However, when I looked at the PS, it says the next one isn’t available until level 70.

Is this working the way it’s supposed to? Am I missing content? What was I supposed to be seeing PS-wise in the level 60s? It says that Forming the Pack is next, but not until level 70. I feel like I missed a chunk of content. Did I?

Is there a new chronology that I can check against to make sure I didn’t lose a story segment in the transition?

Maybe its time for an Anet survey ?

I’m surprised at the avoidance of in-game surveys. Even during this trial week, people may play and then not buy the game, but how can anyone know why they chose not to buy it if there isn’t some sort of survey/feedback in the game. It could be anywhere from “the artwork is not my style” to “I’m confused where to go.” Something as simple as a textbox asking, why are you uninstalling the game, would give real-time feedback. Why reject using this resource?

If you are not using the personality stuff in the game anymore, then please just remove it from character creation. It honestly has no meaning anymore and just saddens me to see it there.

The personality stuff was another thing I loved about the game. I enjoy the character creation process so much. Even though they don’t use it anymore in the game really, except for the odd conversation where it is still there.

I like that I can choose that during character creation, even if that mechanic has been removed from in-game. I really don’t want more personality stuff removed. We have so little that gives our characters any uniqueness.

I posted this on the NPE in more depth as a response to another poster, but I wanted to mention it here too since it is affected by the traits system.

Without the personal story staying the way it was, it makes the lack of traits in early level even more obvious. I noticed that since I don’t have a PS mission to occupy my leveling experience, as it only appears every 10 levels, the game has become one big grind to level 80 for me.

I liked being able to try the story at an earlier level, and if I couldn’t get past it, try again in another level. I went back and forth like this a while, and it distracted me from the grind. That is now gone. More and more I feel like I’m playing a broken character. If I could get a scroll to level 80, I would. There really doesn’t seem to be a reason to level alts anymore. I can’t find any fun in it. :/

The way the game is headed, I think for anyone who has owned the game for more than a year and already leveled a character to 80, there should be some way to just insta-level an alt to 80.
