Why don’t we wait guild wars 2 releases in China before making any hasty conclusion?
i.e making expansions.
Andele, do you know why necromancer and engineer are considered the best overall condition build both in pvp, and wvw?
Because they are able to spread them with ease.
And for pve, warrior, thief, ranger and mesmer are in fact better at stacking condition to a single target than necro. But, with condition cap, it is simply more viable to simply spread them, something where necro excell
Uh, no its because of the condition count that they can apply (engie being able to do everything but fear n torment and necro everything but confusion even if both “weaknesses” are easy to fix with runes)
I feel like you are simply disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing. Yes, it is one of the reason that made necromancer such a powerful opponent to face. And yet, most of those conditions you are talking about are pretty much AOE which further proves my point.
This is what set necromancer and engineer apart from other condition build such as warrior. The way that they can spread all conditions with ease set them apart from other condition builds.
As an aside, a necro running Scepter/Dagger, Spectral Wall, and Bone Fiend with Dhuumfire can apply every condition in the game. Surprising reliability on it too.
Why do you need Spectal Wall? We have an inherent fear in the form of Death Shroud skill 3. Bone Fiend…that immobilizes, right? Death Shroud 5 does that too.
You need Spectral Wall to cause Confusion, since it’s an ethereal combo field (and our only one). Bone Fiend can be replaced with Flesh Wurm, but Bone Fiend has a higher attack rate and double-finishers on its attacks (as opposed to the Wurm’s single finisher).
We are the only class in the game that can cause every condition. Mesmers lack Fear, Rangers and Engineers lack Torment, Thieves lack Burning, Warriors lack Chill. Elementalists lack Fear or Torment, Guardians lack any damaging condition but Burning (and also lack Fear).
We can also turn retaliation into confusion. We might as well argue a wall is not a wall with those contesting necromancer “master of condition” title. At least, the discussion will go somewhere…

constructive arguments or feedback has been completely ignored in this forum since release. If you don’t like it maybe this class isn’t for you…
Hmmm? I don’t like what? How is this class not for me? What are you on??? How did you go to “constructive arguments or feedback has been completely ignored in this forum” to “this is not the class for you”? It doesn’t even make any sense. I’m happy with the direction areneNet is going with necromancers since day one. If you don’t believe me, I’ll let facts speak for me, and not my “mouth”, so maybe this time, you won’t put words in my mouth. just sayin – miranda sings
oh you’re from Quebec?
you’re forgiven then
I guess you didn’t see that I got one lvl 80 which is my necro, and I played tpvp mostly with my necromancer which completly nulify you previous post: |“constructive arguments or feedback has been completely ignored in this forum since release. However, the problem is when someone, like myself, is running 100% cond. duration and gets 6 seconds of weakness AND specs into Closer to Death (which I don’t use and likely wouldn’t even if this change went through). That is near 86% up time. The better thing to do, I think, would be to put an ICD of 10 seconds on it. This would allow the max up time to be only 60%.
Those uptime numbers are only possible if you double tap F1, that means you wouldn’t use DS at all just to get the shortest possible cooldown for Weakening Shroud.
Even though we wont do it for Dec 10. I just wanted to throw out a wacky possible idea for Dhuumfire that we could discuss…
- Life Blast has a 100% chance to cause Burning on hit (2 seconds long). 6 seconds ICD.
Obviously the #s are ballpark and not necessarily final. The % chance, duration, and ICD are all subject to change.
Jon
Not a fan of this change, because it makes you have to go into DS, wait 1 second for LB to fire, …
That would be the point.
…then flash back out of DS and wait 1 second before you can use any abilities again.
If you’re refering to the bug that locks your skills: this only happens if you didn’t exit DS by yourself, as in: your lf runs out or you take too much damage.
The way Dhuumfire is right now is best because doesn’t it fire off no matter how you are hitting?
If by “best” you mean easiest to apply, then yes…
And I gotta defend CHIPS here, the minority are definitely the Dhuumfire proponents.
Minority? What are you talking about?
“We necros hate this trait just as much as other professions.”
“We Necros”
“We”
Sound more like he was speaking for LITERALY every single one of us. He didn’t even mention " the majority of us". Anyway, if you want to defend him, at least make it relevant to what he said.
Or, if you feel like using an absolute, at least have the decency to bring facts.
I’m sorry, how did a debate about spectral walk allowing falls get turned into a talk about death shroud, when that was never in question at all?
OP’s question had exactly nothing to do with Death Shroud.
If a dev was willing to comment on it in this thread it is obviously fair game so shut your pie hole and take the topic nazzi attitude somewhere else.
Hmm rude. Just sayin’ – Miranda Sings
Intentional. We could probably add a max range but I don’t think it’s necessary at this time since it isn’t really breaking anything. The bug was what Godless described.
Dude, it wasnt a bug, stop acting like it was one that you “fixed” instead of openly saying no we will nerf necros by removing their single hit damage absorb (since all multi hits/aka most burst skills in game would go trough it when the damage to 0LF was delt); for friggas sake it was even added to the game when removing the orbs from wvwvw plain in the patch notes.
Hmm rude. Just sayin’ – Miranda Sings
“You’re absolutely right about this being the reason the government is so messed up, you just have the cause and effect wrong. It’s people claiming wrongs where none exist and trying to impose that same belief on other who are just living in the world as it actually exists.”
I have to quote this it’s simply represent perfectly the current Quebec, where I live, situation with the introduction of “La charte des valeurs quebecoises”.
He’s right in every single way, thank you kal for pointing this out.
The A-nets game designers are mostly males and like most of the male players they like to design/play female characters. I think this is the reason we have more female heros then males. The males from A-Net enjoy making them
Wait and see I guess. I don’t think we have enough of a big picture yet to know what exactly incite arenaNet to focus more on female character development than male one. I don’t think making hasty conclusion is the right thing to do.
We simply don’t know. Does it matter really? No. Until there is an obvious gender power symbolism behind it. I don’t think there is one just yet.
The lore has to expand a little bit more to really know what exactly is areneNet intention. i.e. The beginning of the next arc.
I just realized… they said the updated TA Assault path is permanent. it has scarlet in it – sorta. meaning she isn’t going away any time soon.
Not exactly, i read somewhere that the scarlet arch will end this year but that doesn’t mean the dungeon has to go too since its just like all the other paths. Even thou i killed Kudu, i can still go back there and kill him again, as long as its not out there in the open world (like scarlet invasions) players can suspend their disbelief. hence why dungeons(instances) can be immune to decay.
The tower issue will probably be resolved in some way. Its hard to have a death tower threatening the world and let it be there permanent forever(at lest, as is). That kinda negates the living world no? then its just content being dumped without any resolution cuz if its resolved then there’s no problem and ppl yell “temporary content!”
This is why I believe they should introduce a character able to control the flow of time so we could go in the past, and do old content without contradicting the living story. I think there’s already a device close to that in gw2, the fractal of the mist. I think arenaNet should take this opportunity to exploit it more.
Am I the only one who sees condition as boons on my necromancer? I can transfer them, it gives me bigger heal, and I can convert them. If mesmer new FOTM build is going to be condition, I say hell yes, more power to me!
haha that moment when you realize it was a bug XD
We’re not supposed to have a lot of mobility. At most we get swiftness, otherwise all of our “mobility” skills are designed solely to chase, or create distance while in a fight, but not leave it completely.
A lack of mobility means death in a pvp environment, mobility is king. We are the easiest of any class to be trained on, people can stick to us like glue and you all know this.
this doesnt matter to bawb he would rather parrot what he heard a dev say than think for himself.
Yeah, I think it’s better for the devs and bawb to talk with walls. At least, they will get it: they will not waste their time asking for something that will never happen. Sometime this community is so stuborn, it’s not even funny anymore. Again, if you feel mobility is king in pvp, I think it’s time to ask yourself if necromancer really suit your playstyle.
(edited by Poplolita.2638)
Separating every skill makes all balance three times more work intensive. That isn’t going to work.
I agree. Can you imagine the amount of bugs it will create? My … god. Anyway, you guys do realize you’re asking arenaNet to go against their philosophy? You might as well just REROLL. IT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Unless you enjoy beating a dead horse. At this point, you either like or dislike necromancer playstyle. It happens that lack of mobility and being weak against cc is part of it.
I don’t care. No contents locks me out for not having x item level like every other mmos. I don’t need ascended or legendary to do the contents I want.
We will see how this turns out. Because it will be hard to balance content to make it challenging for people will ascended and at the same time not make it too hard for people without it.
When I said lock. I really meant lock like in the literal term. “You can’t enter this dungeon because you do not have an itemlevel higher than x”. For now, gw2 doesn’t have this system, and I’m happy with it. I’m not going to get stuck with assumptions or predictions that may happen or not like you seem to be.
I am pretty sure you can enter any content in any MMO without needing the gear. You just can’t use the queue system for it.
The last mmo I played, Wow, required me to get X item level to enter an instance. Queue or not. And even if they changed this ( didn’t play since cata), It was simply impossible to complete it which is not the case in guild wars 2. The gear was simply a huge requirement in order to complete contents in Wow.
Unless you think entering a content and watch yourself die because you gear is simply not good enough is “completing content”. I might as well tell to someone to port my lvl 1 char to X instance, heroic raid while we’re at it, butt naked and call it a day. Woot woot! Seriously, are you complaining for the sake of complaining?
I don’t care. No contents locks me out for not having x item level like every other mmos. I don’t need ascended or legendary to do the contents I want.

Again, in the context of the paragraph, he said they do not want people to grind to get the fun stuff, and they did that. I can’t think of any MMO, other than Guild Wars 2, that doesn’t make you grind to get to the fun stuff. In WoW, want to go on to the next raid? Sorry, you can’t, you have to raid this same raid over and over and over again for months to get the gear you need to to go to the next raid. I did the raiding scene on many other MMOs, and it was a huge grind to get on to the next raid, even though our guild could almost do the previous raid blind folded, it posed no challenge anymore, nor did we ever see anything new in the raid.
And no, the person I quoted was not right at all. He is only right if you take that phrase out of context.
And yes, they did fulfill what they put in the manifesto if you keep everything in context of what they were talking about.
Yeah if the context is they didn’t accomplish anything they set out to do, yeah then we can take them in context. You and 12 other people can keep believing that. The real context is them saying things like that along with saying things like this:
“Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games — we leave the grind to other MMOs.” -Mike O’Brien, President of Arenanet
I don’t care. No contents locks me out for not having x item level like every other mmos. I don’t need ascended or legendary to do the contents I want.

Just click my signature. Just look at that spam. It was during trial. No… go wonder why I’m against it.
It doesn’t matter if it’s bad or not. It’s soloQ aka every man for himself. TeamArena is here for a reason.
By far, the best pvp skin for sure! It definitly should be available in pve/wvw so I can feel… like a true necromancer!
*Sry for the necro, but I’m just that… a necromancer.
I felt in love with mesmer gamaplay. The clone and mind concept is just well down with this class. Anyway, can anyone here suggest me a good build in tournament pvp and custom arena duel using staff/sword-(insert w/e here) build?
Stack conditions on a necro in DS and dps when he comes out and the head goes “pop” give him 2-3 seconds when he is out and he might be able to heal if not transfer the conditions.
Yes please, so I can get bigger heal.
And how dare you calling people noobs when you are one of them? Unless you consider killing other pvpers with your so called epic gear that will eventually be worthless the patch after all about skill. Just… rofl, the irony is strong here. Just… go back to party city or wow or w/e where you belong. You are probably one of those with qt, and swag in their name. Pff…

This is basically what I’ve been saying all along. Instead of being rude, making up stuff, or using hyperbole (wild exaggeration) to try to make a point, if people stuck to facts and stated opinions in a non-derogatory way, those opinions would hold more traction.
The job that Anet devs have is impossible. Everyone wants to be listened to, but not everyone agrees. If they listen to group 1, then group 2 says Anet doesn’t listen to its fans. If they listen to group 2, then group 1 gets upset.
But so many come to these forums to deride the game, rather than help it grow…and that shouldn’t be acceptable to anyone.
So many people have called me on saying that the game is doing well, even when I’m only responding to a post that says the game is dying. We have about equal evidence, but apparently, people are willing to allow the dying post to go unmolested, while my response to that post gets attacked? Why? Because it’s fun to attack white knights…except it’s not about white knighting. It’s about keeping it honest.
The stuff Chris has said in this post, including how the living story is in its infancy and will need time to grow (I say the same thing about dungeons without the trinity)…it’s a learning curve for everyone…and a steep one.
Being respectful will make this community and these forums a more enjoyable place to post. If you just want to hate, you’re not helping anyone.
Too many people claim to say they post for the good of the game, but post in ways which can’t do anything but hurt the game.
I agree!
We need some erotic rp server or at least a place or city where we hang out butt naked laughing like psychopath, and than realizing how sad our life is. But still, the most important thing is to laugh ^^
Here’s some examples:
Anyway, I know I’m probably going to get banned, but least the fact I made a fool of myself will make this forum less toxic and give you a smile at the same time! Have a nice laughter!
**I know it’s not going to happen!!!!
30. a smart phone application that allows me to talk to my friends when Im not in game so that i can stay up to date with pvp events and games would be really cool qol feature.
or even purchase cash shop items when I cant be in game for awhile
Get ready to laugh. My signature is a screenshot brought by a player who was playing during trial weekends or should I say extended week. I suggested you to click, you didn’t, and completly missed my point. Now for real, click it!
Not pretty, right?
I, myself, experienced this kind of behoviour in soloQ, but the funny thing is that, both my team and the opposite team got a naked troll lol. We won though.
Anyway, that’s a pretty good example of what free to play pvp will bring and I’d rather deal with afkers only than… afkers+trolls+bots or simply people switching account whenever they feel like it when their mmr is too low causing by this action mmr inflations… oh wait, it already is. Just no thank you.

Why some of you keep suggesting gw2 pvp side to become free to play? I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t like visiting some nasty site if you know what I mean – click my signature if you don’t.
The OP wrote a well thought out, coherent missive that explains his point of view very well.
My take on it:
I am an MMO vet as well. Everything I have ever played (save for GW2) has a trinity. I don’t play any of them any more.
Why?
Because I hate having characters sit in storage doing nothing because the only thing people want to bring to a fight is (insert role here.) So many years looking at LFG queues that say “Healer wanted for X” or “Tank needed for Boss Fight Y” while the lesser played non-trinity role characters sit gathering dust.
God forbid that my favorite class to play isn’t a trinity class. If I want in a group in these other games, I absolutely HAVE to roll a class that’s wanted or needed in a group, or I sit around in town begging for a group that wants to “support” me.
This reason, above every other is the reason that I believe the trinity is a dead concept.
GW1 had a trinity of sorts, but there were multiple professions that could spec to do the heal thing, or the tank thing, or the DPS thing. It wasn’t quite trinity-free, but they made an attempt at it. Aion did as well, making a class or two that didn’t quite fit the “trinity mold.” GW2 is the only game that has done away with the traditional holy trinity altogether.
It’s not a matter of who does what role and more. It’s a matter of being so ingrained into our minds that the holy trinity is necessary in the first place. After years of playing that way, it’s hard to undo all that knowledge.
So, at the risk of sounding like a troll, we all need to “learn to play” when it comes to removing the trinity. Bringing it back only serves to make us all move in the wrong direction.
But then again, this is only the opinion of one player among thousands.
It was hard to find tanks and healers in other MMOs because 85% of the playerbase like to be a dps with zero responsibility. Tanks like to lead and protect the group, if they mess up, the group will most likely die. Some people thrive on that level pressure. Similarly with healers, they like to push a group to preform above what they could individually and if they spread themselves too thin, the group will likely wipe to losing the tank.
No matter the reason why players like different roles, they exist to make a game more complex and fun. Having a game setup for only dps, makes the game way too easy. Simply stacking ‘zerker and hopping out of easily discernible telegraphed attacks, does not equal an epic skill ceiling. I used to have to concentrate so intensely on healing during some really tough boss battles that I would achieve full ’Ferret on crack’ mode, just to keep all the plates spinning! My GF used to love to poke me in the ribs after such a fight, just to watch me pop up like a madman in full fright lol! You ever get anything like that deepsing GW2?
If GW2 suddenly got a trinity, nothing would really change for players that like to dps. The change would be more orderly and complex PvE fights and the game would attract a lot more people. The PvP dynamic would also change for the better IMO. I personally don’t think anything in gaming is more fun than healing in PvP, it’s so funny if you do it right.
You’re assuming people want that feeling of being a small mammal on crack. Also this feeling is there in GW2 – try soloing a boss once your party is down and it’s just you and it. Try beating Liadri, or the new Tet.
There is a difference between losing one player aka tank or healer, and losing… 4/5 of the team.
Missing the point. More and more GW2 caters to reflex play. Something that is hilarious as ANet supposedly avoided GW1 style interrupts because they were too latency sensitive.
With no aggro management and no proper tankish stats, staying alive means staying out of reach. And that again means constantly moving around.
Thing is that anything below 900 range may well be melee, as mobs can close that gap in a second.
I am all for movement as a option, but right now the game design makes it mandatory.
Hmmm… This is working as intended. I don’t see anything wrong with it.

Hey, I think the holy trinity is outdated too.
But let’s not pretend it would make GW2 worse or dumb it down. GW2 has the worse “trinity” in every single mmorpg ever created: Single Trinity. Dps/ Dps/ Dps. It can’t get worse than that, folks!
If Lord of the Rings was written so that only the highest dps characters could speed run to Mordor, then the hobbits and Gandalf would be an hidrance.
It sucks when only DPS builds are worth anything. It sucks when you have to use a DPS role for a party to accept you in one-hit-kill-defensive-stats-are-pointless-dodging-is-all-you-need endgame content.
Sigh. Red Falcon didn’t copy paste it enough. I’ll do it for him. And this in response to your : Single Trinity. Dps/ Dps/ Dps.
Your mentality… is outdated, and need a small upgrade.
1) The “No roles” fallacy.
GW2 has all the common MMO roles, but you get to play them on your class.
You both tank damage, deal DPS and heal yourself.
Just because you are not pidgeon-holed into a single one of these roles but play all three it doesn’t mean there are no roles; it means you play all 3.
Until you understand this fact just don’t post about this matter at all..
The trinity is needed. But Anet will likely add it in the first Expansion. So no worries.
Keep dreaming.

But isn’t the Necro considered the worst as a roaming class? I heard you have very limited mobility.
Also, thanks for the info on that build of yours. I know what to look out for now.
Only reason we are considered the worst roaming class is because we have no escape button. we are basically stomp or be stomped class.
We don’t stomp people.
I do
Same!
Anyway, to OP, necromancer hardcounters anything that pretty much focus entierely on condition. This is why many condition builds even engi try to make a more hybrid-condition one ( Stunlock with some condition traits and bow for warrior.) Necromancers are literaly the master of condition in this game: they can transfer it, turn your boons into conditions, get higher heal with condition on them, or simply turn them into boons.

I play both builds but tbh conditions are king in pvp atm. The 30/30/10/0/0 spec is one of the top builds in the game (more feared than wars and thfs atm lol) dhumfire and terror just rock people. And high end pvp is filled with more power warrior/thief and also in some extend power necro than condition necro.
I recommend staying s/d and staff
I think you meant 30/20/0/0/20 build? You are 2 months late. Also, I would hardly say that 30/20/0/0/20 build is more feared than stunlock warrior and evade thief when the mlg tounrmanent was won by a team without a necromancer.
“If this game is so hard for you that you hate to play autoattack elem, why not try something easier.
No. English IS the International language. You even learn that at school. It’s also why EVERYBODY learns it and also why it’s one of the primary classes. You fail English, you won’t graduate.
Actually, there are two international languages. English and French. WIth french going down, and english slowly remplacing it.

Except, I did provide facts. Did you? ArenaNet’s quote and http://guildwars.incgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?462663-Is-Guild-Wars-an-MMO.
The fact you came up here with nothing but opinion bashing is quite unconstrutive.
Let’s end it here, and focus on this thread.
Clearly you’re missing the fairly obvious definition of a MMORPG. All of which GW1 fulfils the criteria for. You spout an opinion from ArenaNet as though it were fact. Not to be too callous, but do you consider everything you hear or read to be true before evaluating it yourself through criteria? Furthermore this whole argument on instancing baffles me somewhat. This was a thread on PvP and thus arguments should be made relevant to it. GW1 instancing worked just like GW2 instancing; however instead of worlds, you had servers (which actually made it easier to meet others; like millions of others).
Let’s end it here, and focus on this thread. If you want to discuss whether gw1 is a mmo or not, go here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Guild-wars-1-is-a-mmo/first#post2932894

Here is your valid way to exclude gw1 from mmorpg pvp comparisons: the game is dead
It really was that simple
but instead you insisted on baseless genre restrictions
No, it’s not a valid reason to exclude a game.
Those words are used together to describe thousands of people playing at the same time in the same WORLD. Which is simply not the case with guild war. The only zone where guild war is persitent is the town.
However, in the actual world pve, The difference is this: In Guild Wars, the possibility to run into other groups is zero. In actual MMOs, it’s 100%. We don’t care whether people talk outside towns. The important thing is whether you CAN. Persistance and Seamlessness = MMO. Guild wars has none of those. It has more similarities with diablo 3 than guild war 2 or EQ1/2, or wow.
It’s simply not fully a mmo.
Which brings us full circle to the question of best PvP and your silly exclusion of gw1. Silly and irration, because we are discussing pvp and that has nothing to do with the mmo part of a game. moreover, gw1 is the direct prequel to this game and many (but not nearly enough) gw2 features were taken directly from it.
“because we are discussing pvp and that has nothing to do with the mmo part of a game”
While we’re at it, lol and dota 2 are by far the best pvp game out there. I’m the irrational one anyway. Anyway, you guys indirectly answered my question.
It’s ok I can keep repeating myself if you are having trouble reading, it’s np
gw1 is prequel to gw2, and its pvp combat is structurally identical to other mmos (gw2 in this case). that’s why it’s directly comparable. the quasi-persistent pve world is irrelevant. lol and dota are a different class of games entirely, where competitive pvp involves starting a new character and leveling during match.i have been waiting for you to say the only intelligent and reasonable reason why gw1 should be excluded from “best pvp” competition, and if you don’t come across it yourself i will give you a hand.
You are not answering my question which was, in case you forgot:
Could you name me any other MMO (NO GW1 IS NOT A MMO) that has no gear advantage, and the same amazing combat potential?
*i have been waiting for you to say the only intelligent and reasonable reason why gw1 is a “mmo:”, and if you don’t come across it yourself i will give you a hand.
Congrutation Denial. EU won once again.
