I don’t want to be mean or anything but after watching second vid streaming, with Sceptre/dagger, i was really dissapointed.
You didn’t play bad or anything, you were using those skills, trying to aim them and so, but i coulnd’t see anything besides you running around and healing the damage done.
I understand that you are trying to do some damage since you are using valkyries, and only have 14k hp, but still i don’t see any damage comming from you. I was watching the numbers, and i barely saw any, you were hitting 600 with 2 lighting skill, barely hit 1k with ur auto attack from air, and so on, I really didn’t see any damage comming out from you, better switch to dagger/dagger, scepte dagger really seems to be useless. You could’ve done alot more with dagger dagger
I’m actually using a clerics amulet because it’s a support build, but good lookin out for me. You would see drastically different numbers with a valkyrie’s or soldiers.
The tactic with the build is to might stack as much as possible, its really just luck if you can manage to connect with your non pre-cc’d DT’s.

So today, 1/10/13, PZ decided to say #kittentherules and play double ranger, double elementalist, and an offensive guardian in the NA paid scene to see if it was possible to disregard the rules of the meta and play a non-standard comp against a top 3 team. Many people think that there is a standard meta that the game forces a set composition based on the fact that top teams are running them, but the matter of the fact is that GOOD players haven’t tried experimenting with original tactics/compositions (at least in the NA scene)
I hope the Team Paradigm players does not take offense to this video being highlighted off my stream to help the community see the fact that exploration can result in success, because I both respect them and love them all as players and friends.

I know many teams are unfamiliar how to synergize a 5 man, I can help give ideas to that. You can’t really just toss together random classes and specs and be incredibly successful against other top teams. So ya..

I use 30/30/10/0/0 with necromancer runes and every fear I use ticks twice so as long as I apply 2 conditions. I really don’t know what any of your are talking about. Maybe its different outside of tpvp.

yeah they reverted shattered strength to its previous state which virtually makes you miss out on the free might. Mesmers could get 24 stacks of might because of the greatsword bouncing attack. Now they get 6 base so i think 9 now. Which is 35 power per stack so 840 power previously now toned back to between 210-315 power.
So basically what was happening was that mesmers would have 2200 base power from their shatter builds, 2450 power and add a 24 stack of might makes it 3290 POWER. so ya
Not only that but with 3290 power their shatters were doing 1 clones worth of damage. With a zerker amulet you do roughly twice the damage on mind wrack than you would with 3. You could essentially get 4 4k+ shatters off and just be one shotting people left and right. I forget what the exact co-efficients are on the # of clones but yeah

macroing allowed mesmers to shatter with 3 clones and actually do single clone damage.
all they did was revert the change entirely and add a gcd, they didnt change any coefficients. Adding the gcd makes it so that the bug doesnt work. It would still be there if there was no gcd.
basically that was the problem

Coming from someone that has mostly played Mesmer since the beta. To say Mesmer right now is “balanced” is probably the most lawls worthy thing I have ever read on these forums. They are way too strong and even bad ones can easily do way too much.
The only viable spec is shatter and has been for a while(the fact that they buffed it shows Anet have no clue what is going on). It has the best elites in the game. Most of the utilities are strong or worthless there is no middle ground.

Right now Mesmer is the most blatently overpowered thing in the game right now. Swilo hit it spot on.
Rez signets need to be nerfed super hard as well and/or reworked.
Time Warp is ridiculously overpowered and needs duration nerf at the least.
Hybrid necro is too strong compared to the other aoe dps.
Warriors dont have enough mobility in team fights, I would suggest an elite that makes them immune to conditions, or some more of that somewhere. Also a way to not make shield so mandatory. Warriors are amazing duelists however but that can’t be their only role.
Engineer bunkers like nerva mentioned are strong and we are thinking about running one ourselves potentially once people catch on how to counter us. Right now because they dont have stronger damage than necros or rangers and being that they are basically a melee class when in bomb kit, makes them an inferior choice. Also with portal in the game it just makes it more difficult and pointless to leave something back point that isnt just a portal.
Rangers are strong now but only in 1v1 and 2v2 scenarios. They are sub-par in big team fights. Trap ranger is probably their strongest spec, tanky signet power builds however are good and can counter this trap spec.
Ele is the versatility class, while lacking things in the dps sphere they make up in utility (cc, innate defenses) Make for great bunkers, awesome treb control, but much like rangers are very bad in big team fights. D/D is the best shutdown in the game, unless you are trying to shut down a warrior because that won’t happen
Guardian has probably the most viable specs in the game. The class is just ridiculously strong across the board for obvious reasons.
I’m gunna reserve my opinion on thieves for now, but I know that they are very strong and their stealth up-time is probably too strong.
Immediate needed changes imo:
-Revert mesmer trait “shattered strength”
-Nerf time warp to 6 second duration
-Nerf signet of undeath and illusion of life cooldowns to 4 minutes and cast time to 3.5-4 seconds.
-Make rez utilities only rez one player in spvp/tpvp OR make all rez utilities vengeance based.
-either bring corpse hp back up to previous state or nerf poison on corpses
-take toughness out of the game. from what i hear gw1 didnt have it and there were no bunker problems
-deathmatch and moba game modes
-rankings
-money and resources thrown into pvp

Yesterday macro mesmers were killing me much much faster than a day ago. I can attest to this buffage being insanely good for mesmers! Ouchie many butt cuts were dealt. Didn’t lose the games tho
Just so you all know, not sure if its happening on EU but theres like 4 or 5 mesmers on NA who have macros that do instantaneous 9 clone shatters. It’s beyond me but its giving mesmers instant 25 stacks

No more swapping to scorpion wire on the run to clutch pull an enemy stomping a teammate
No more swapping to flash to teleport body block a kill shot
No more swapping to ice bow to quickly down the treb, instead now enemies can respawn and run back after tough 1v1s before the treb dies
No more getting additional condition cleanse because you are fighting a caltrops thief with 30 second duration bleeds
Slower mobility in the long run means less engagements, and more snowball effect.
But what do I know about competitive pvp and what adds and diminishes skill. I guess i’m not considering the casuals who have just as much reason to be here as myself. This is just frustrating, nothing people won’t be able to get over, but frustrating. Some people spent loads of time thinking of how to #nextlevel

I don’t agree that this takes skill out of the game. Opening inventory, double clicking to another weapon using an ability and then double click swap back to exploit the benefit of every other weapon in your arsenal was just clunky and defeated the purpose of having only two weapons to swap between. Weapons should be locked in just like traits are. Good change, I’m all for it.
no one cares about that, its the fact we cant utility and trait swap that matters. Hope everyone enjoys being legitimately hard countered pre match with nothing you can do about it

Would be great to get more people mobilizing people into groups for paid on the NA scene. The reason people’s QP levels are so low on the NA ladder are because every tournament is filled with top teams. These teams are entirely next level compared to literally anything that’s not another top team. Demoralizing more and more people daily.
Groups don’t form themselves. People act like the game is just dead, but it’s because no one makes the extra effort to network, make friends, and group up to get competitive.
Us over at PZ are willing to help groups form up just send one of us a tell, and we can give you some names of some good players.
Also for teams that are wanting to get competitive as quick as possible check out our website which hopefully can become the new hub for GW2 PvP guides. Our site lists the current top specs for players in the NA Meta, hopefully we can get some eu players to register and toss their stuff up as well.

it’s really just about timing the dodge, they stomp and make a quick animation before they explode and its based off the distance from you.. its probably like 100-200 units

This games tournament pvp is very team orientated. One of the great things however is that each member of a team is accountable for his each and every action. Team fights are happening all game-every game at the competitive levels. This can be 2v2s, 3v3s, 4v4s, 5v5s. Actually the meta for NA the past few weeks has been a 5v5 mid fight meta of sort. Things are just starting to transition out of that.

A solo queue ladder will help people come back to the game. A solo queue ladder won’t work however until a hard-meta has been determined as existent.
We need to be able to queue up as 1 of the 5 roles, so teams aren’tjust blatantly unbalanced. Then it’ll be easy for people to get into the games, find teams or forge them from the ladder itself. Also, because games should be close often, people won’t be getting smashed and rage quitting all the time. Just my thoughts.

Warriors are one of the most versatile and strongest classes in the game. The #1 player in the world is a warrior, he just hasn’t put in his information.
Kill Power, innate tankiness, and supporting ability such as frenzy and balanced stance make them gods of tpvp. They just aren’t played that way…other than by ONE person

It have no idea, and I haven’t ever even heard of thought of changing the system. People arguing against the “it takes away skill from the game” are just out of their minds. Thiefs press steal+C&D+backstab and in 1.5 seconds anything under 1200 toughness is dead instantly. That takes skill? Oh, btw, they can do it from 2100 units away (SS+steal)

After playing a full day of paid tournaments with the new 20 second release timers and talking to several players on other top NA teams, we find that the new system takes a lot of skill out of the game.
The first team to have someone executed (or should I say first person to go down because it’s so easy to dps a corpse) is creating a full-blown snowball effect that’s worse than the previous 1:88 :58 system.
As top teams we take pride in knowing the games ins-and-outs, and knowing timers/glancing at them at all times before stomps added skill and STRATEGY to the game. Skill in the sense that you are avoiding tunnel-vision to properly play, and strategy in the sense that teams had the ability to either stagger enemies.
What are other top team thoughts on this topic? Today I talked to PTC and JBUO who both disapprove.

What sort of meta changes do you see. Guess i must be short sighted because i don’t see anything too drastic nor do i see the variety of builds increasing.
Portal changes allow more strategy to be used during the match and not have matches 5v5 mid the entire game. Having a 90 second cd allows more movement to be dispersed around the map because the window of opportunity is now 45 seconds bigger. Other nerfs to the mesmer make it not such a mandatory class, and you will potentially now see teams no longer using them.
Staff ele’s will no longer be mandatory or the quote/un-quote staple point offense bunker, since they now can be killed 1v1. This will push them away from always being used.
Now that block bug is gone, we will still see guardians, but hopefully not games where mid is contested the entire match.

This is the first time i’ve ever given out the rune set I use. Please respect that. We all know its unrealistic to think every build be viable. Please stop overreacting to other classes being more or less well rounded with more viable builds than necro. I promise you this spec outclasses every team fight dps build in the game. Most the top teams are using it now or a high cc dps teams i.e ranger, d/d ele.
