Considering they went out of their way to make it so you couldn’t stay perfectly invisible indefinitely, there was always SOME indication you were there, I think it blatantly obvious that it is NOT intended.
If you can’t see that then you’re just as blind as those who thought the snowflake exploit was legit.

Just to correct you, it is blatantly obvious that someone or something is inside the tower/keep since it shows it is under attack constantly….

I was just about to confirm that it doesn’t show at all. But you do see swords the moment they attack anything at all.

If you open with Cloak and Dagger and use back stab you will get the revealed debuff. If you keep going into your full auto attack chain (one rotation) and after the last skill finishes you recast Cloak and Dagger it will land the stealth RIGHT at the end of the revealed debuff.

Using the above will maximize your DPS to its fullest when using the D/D spec. When I was leveling I would throw down an ambush trap when standing beside my target then start the Cloak and Dagger chain. The stealth would cause my pocket thief to take the damage and I would be able to just unload on my target.

Thanks Professor!! I definitely need to check out that debuff. I didn’t know after cloak and dagger that you get the revealed debuff, I have to confirm later on when I play. I could swear playing that I didnt notice it buy ill pay extra attention to it. Naphack said the same thing so I guess I better check that out & thanks for the tip! Just started playing 2 weeks ago and I enjoy it.

Everyone is looking into this way to deeply. To “exploit” all you have to do is the following.

1-Find a wall/bridge
2-Stand near the wall/bridge or on top of
3-Have a dagger in your off hand slot
4-Press your fifth skill slot
5-????
6-Profit!

Honestly writing out those steps almost make it seem like there is some real trick to it. All your doing is using CnD on or near a wall. Your not crafting some high end materials and making massive profit. The players aren’t going around killing everyone in sight with one shot.

Once again this has been around since beta. It has been seemingly well known to anyone who has played a thief long enough or bothered to try using their skills to the fullest extent.

I see Guild Wars 2 as a sandbox game where the developers set forth the rules of how we should conduct ourselves. Now of course they don’t want the marketplace skewed by some unreasonable item glitches or anything else. But when the rules of how the game works aren’t even explained and all we got was a simple fold out with hot keys on it and what classes can hold what I hardly see the issue with thinking outside the box and applying skills to their fullest means.

We have waited days now for a response from the developers and with myself months. I feel if this was some great issue of exploitation then I wouldn’t be posting on these forums right now and a emergency patch would have taken place fixing this issue. If the issue was like the siege trading then they would at least respond to someone’s thread with an official response stating that they see it as an exploit and further use would be treated as one. But the reality is they haven’t.

Hmm, the use of unintended bug in mechanics of a game = Exploit

Not reporting it, and just telling a “few” friends just pretty much answer the question on if it was an exploit, If you’re keeping it a secret that much, you know something was up.

I hardly see this as something for a player like myself to take as a big deal. I found this months ago when I was level 30 on my first toon. I was chasing a guardian inside of the OL keep and they used alt+f4 to bail on the fight. I was about to CnD them for the finish but obviously they disconnected. Suddenly I gained stealth! OH MY I STRUCK GOLD! So I used it again. Well gosh darn I gained my seconds of stealth and no revealed debuff.

That happened MONTHS ago. All I did was use a skill when standing on a wall. Nothing more and nothing less. This isn’t some great exploit to cry over. This has been in the game since beta testing. The only reason why it surfaced as an issue is because organized groups are using it to counter zergs.

I support this “bug” or whatever you want to call it. Maybe they can add to the diminishing returns on stealth to cut down on the usage of it but it is giving the power back to the small groups.

Lohanna is the one who brought it to my attention (that’s who i’m talking with in the video) and explained how to do it.

I’ve been doing it for months. Shared it with a few friends. Didn’t see anything about it surface until we started forming groups and using it to cap. Never really saw it as an exploit though. Still don’t see it as one.

I would like everyone to realize there is a cap to stealth still. If you keep using CnD on the wall long enough you will receive diminishing returns. Seems like they meant for thieves to be able to achieve extended forms of stealth.

Bumping this. I don’t see it as an exploit rather a clever use of game mechanics. I sure most of you will not try it to this extent but there are diminishing returns when you use stealth for to long. I feel as though Anet knew about this or designed for the possibility of this happening in some form or fashion.

We were attempting to figure out if they were just jumping into the keep some how, but I got to watch them speed hack away while under the ground..so thats how they were doing it.

Funny, when we took SBI keep in EB, the same guys were in there. I was wondering how they were self reviving with no noticeable thief around(I know how thief works, I play one). I figured it was multiple thieves, guess it wasn’t.

I remember some of our guys in TS earlier saying that they thought they saw a TC guy under the ground. I wasn’t around them at the time, so I wasn’t able to snap a screenie.

If that was you in the keep from Memento Mori, Then yes, You were hacking..

I don’t accuse people of hacking lightly, but the person who I saw doing it was stupid enough to pop Thieves guild then exit the keep at incredibly high speeds, Since no house stealth was done ever while in the keep, and the distance he traveled was far more then you can travel while stealth (no to mention the speeds) I can assume he was bloody underground. since they weren’t above ground or the sky.

Now that might not be you, but the person in that keep yesterday was most certainly cheating.

Yeah I’m an asuran and the other was a human. Neither of us were hacking. Nothing close to it in fact. I have no idea what you were seeing but the only thing I could think of to explain this was you triggering our Ambush traps causing those thieves to spawn at our location.

What you were dealing with was an orginized group of thieves and mesmers porting people into the keep. We would hide and stack stealth in order to res our mesmers. Nothing more. You just couldn’t catch us.

Next time you see us or others using similar tactics take a video or shoot some screen shots before you pull the hacker card. MM doesn’t hack we just outplay.

Have a option to make everyone appear with the same Light, Medium, and Heavy armor with the absolute basic looks. All your computer would need to do at this point is render a simple image based on the armor class instead of the detailed gear varying from person to person.

Want to take it a step further? Have a basic set of racial looks as well to go along with the armor simplification.

Even further you say?!?! Standard weapon skins! Yes! Bows made to look like planks of wood and swords with just a slap of grey metal extending from a hilt. Sounds amazing to me!

If your anything like myself then your computer can run most anything PvE just fine. I even run sPvP with no graphic issues at all. Problems start to occur in the WvWvW setting. Don’t even get me started on when a zerg runs by. Much less when your in a zerg then a zerg war starts.

I don’t know much about the gears that run in the background produciing this stunning game given to us but in games I’ve played in the past (on a much older computer mind) options for reduced gear quality always helped me.

engie – just burst him down first. he has no mobility, he cant apply his burst.
so it’s all about applied burst. thief has the best applied burst. next.

If a thief has enough burst to make you kitten yourself so much he/she is going to take that damage back 10 fold. Beyond that all you really need to do is chill or immobilize them.

Here’s a quick walk-through on how to kill a thief.

1-See thief
2-Don’t see thief
3-Take mid range to large amount of damage
Now this next part is tricky so pay close attention
4-UNLOAD ON IT! All it takes is a stun, snare, or chill to assure they are going to stay in the general area or exactly where you rooted them.
5- Pick up loot bag.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve waited for the thief burst on my thief. Once I see the CnD dmg I dodge roll and CnD myself. If it goes off all I do is tap my 1 key and spam auto attacks. A few moments later I see either a corpse on the ground or someone able to be finished. Its that easy.

Not really. He’s making it sound like all you see is thieves everywhere in WvWvW. This game is far from being “over run” by thieves. This constant crying about them is really getting old.

Yet another thief rage thread. Go make yourself a thief and start becoming one of these gods you hate so much. Two things are going to happen when you do.

1- Your going to find out just how hard it is to actually pull off what they are using to kill you.

2- Your going to learn how to counter thieves.

I play a thief. First toon was a thief and I learned the game through one. I know them backwards and forwards now. Because of this when I see one I know just what it takes to kill them and how to shut them down. There are so many members in my guild with level 80 thieves who don’t ever use them because if you know how they work you know how to counter them with any class.

Stop crying about this class. The culling problem isn’t just thieves and although exploitable by them doesn’t mean the class itself is broken. The class is balanced and you just need to learn the game.

This was probably back when I ran full berserker, now I use P/V/T. Generally hit around 6-8k now.

If your getting 6-8K often now that’s insane. Considering how much more durable you are than I am.

I’m full glass cannon. Everything about my thief is geared for all out damage. I love it. However if I let my guard down for any amount of time I will die for sure. If you need defensive gear to survive Orr then glass cannon is NOT for you. A ton of players are terrible and playing a glass cannon thief will wreck them but it just takes one good warrior, thief, mesmer, guardian, necromancer, ranger, engineer, or ele to kill you.

Now if your aiming to be a walking god in WvWvW in the art of trolling get full invader armor (Just Power, Toughness, Vitality). Put 30 into shadow arts and 20 into acrobatics. Take healing when in stealth and condition removal with speed in stealth as well. Nobody on gods green earth will be able to catch you and your going to heal through anything they can throw your way. Go with S/D and float in the zerg.

If you spec yourself right you can become the reincarnation of Steve Irwin kitten off everyone with constant CnD.

Sets that I know of to make building this way cheaper (not using gold) that I know of are AC, SoE, and Invader. I’m sure there are others but still you get the idea. As for repair it costs me about 1-2 silver every time I get killed. I usually can drop enough people to get full stacks of Blood Thirstier so I make 20~50 silver depending on my drops.

I get 8k pretty often, but I find that raw damage builds aren’t as viable for WvW, so I’ve traded a fair bit of my damage out for blinds/survivability.

I’ve gotten pretty good about dropping 1-2 people then getting out but for the risk/reward I think I would have to agree that all out damage isn’t worth it in the long run. Fun as hell though.

Highest I’ve hit myself post nerf was 18K on a ranger and 23K on a warrior using frenzy. Wondering who all can still exceed 10K dmg on a single hit.

S/P doesn’t even come close to D/D damage though. I always weigh risk versus reward. You could argue that IS is a simple solution but I can get away with CnD just as easily. I’m also not draining my skills on daze. I focus on all out damage and don’t need to worry about my target using skills if they are already on the ground.

Title says it all. Not saying the class is bad but I would like to see more than P/D and D/D thiefs running around. I know there are some P/P thieves sprouting up ever since the patch but their damage still don’t compare to D/D. As for S/D builds that used to be viable are now only used by vets that mastered it pre-nerf so they can spank baddies left and right still.

I feel as though our weapon set is so confined and either needs the be expanded or have another look taken at it. I see threads every now and then about a rifle thief and I personally would love to see a 1200 range weapon in the works.

Lastly just to end this little post I would like to point out to anybody crying about the damage on Back Stab still (although their numbers seem to be dying off finally) that the only way to get over 10K damage is to run 100% glass cannon. I know first hand how hard EVERYONE hits me in this game. It doesn’t take much to kill me, you just need to be smart and land your kittens.

The behavior is correct in that your character was killed while in combat but the team talked it over and we’re not happy with the golem going away as a result. We’ll get a change into an upcoming build so that if you’re in a golem when you DC the golem itself won’t be destroyed but will instead be left behind as though you had exited it.

I would just like to point out this is exactly why GW is superior to any other game. Seeing a response to a minor problem like this so fast is unheard of in any other game I’ve played. Thank you for proving such an awesome game for us to enjoy.

No idea who Christina Hendricks is but thanks for the support. I agree with the tuning part if not a complete overhaul. I would hate for anything to ruin WvWvW. It’s not flawless but it sure as hell seems to run very smoothly. I would just like to see players get rewarded for their efforts and encourage some who wouldn’t dare to try open pvp to give it a go!

Well if one of the achievements is to guard a supply camp I can’t really see anything that would cause someone to abuse it. If the place is constantly under fire and your holding them back then its not like your team is losing a player given that the other team has someone attacking you. If you just waited all day for someone to come along making yourself useless your probably not going to finish the weekly.

I would think that it would encourage groups to form or follow commanders so quick captures and aggressive play style would be learned and taught so you could finish the weekly.

Well it was just an example. I would honestly hope if they did this the list would be extensive so it wasn’t something you could finish in just a hour or two invested in WvWvW.

I love playing in WvWvW. From drops to exp it seems to be balanced across the board. But other than the Invader set there really aren’t any unique items to be gained from it. What I was thinking is having a weekly added to the game that corresponds directly with WvWvW. It would just be a list of simple activities that add up as the week goes on. At the end of the week on server reset totals wipe and you can start again. The list could look as simple as this:

Score kills on hostile invaders
XXXX/XXXX
Smack the opposing Yaks
XXXX/XXXX
Capture sentry points
XXXX/XXXX
Claim land for your home
XXXX/XXXX
Defend or capture Stone Mist
XXXX/XXXX

Obviously the list I presented is just an example. The would weekly would be geared to promote a well rounded WvWvW player encouraging them to take part in various activities.

Lastly would be the main reason why someone would want to take part in this weekly that doesn’t even do WvWvW at all. What would be inside the chest. Give it drops that are randomized and drops that are consistent. The random drops could range from crafting materials to special WvWvW skins to legendary precursors (note if they ever did anything with legendary precursors it would need to be a low chance). The consistent drops would be simple like some gold bags and karma liquid.

This is just something I personally would like to see in the game and I’m really just wanting to throw this idea out there to see what ya’ll think and how they could make it to be fair and reasonable.

I wanted to read this and maybe shoot you and idea or two but I can’t stand how you talk/type. Made it to maybe the second line.

There had to be a lot of confusion going on for them. I don’t know how many times in WvWvW all I have to do is come from behind a zerg to spark some chaos in them. There was only one person in that video that was below level 80 but that green up arrow is usually a big target for me. A lot of the time I will pick someone leveling out of the zerg in order to try and get their buddies to res them for an easy back stab. It is kinda sad though that they all kept trying to res and even one tried to just leave and do the JP.

Do we deal dmg with our number 2? Yeah a bit. Our number 3? Not so much unless your going for condition dmg but in that case 1 isn’t an issue. How about 4? Used to deal some but now its almost purely utility. 5 is now mainly a tool to use the dmg on 1. It’s not like the auto attack is BS. I’ve been on my ele and struck with a blade trail for 8K dmg. Seen some crazy kitten from mesmers and necros as well. Guardians seem to never die yet dish out a good amount of dmg at the same time.

urinfamousr go make a thief then try to do what you just saw. It’s not like everyone lands 9K BS. More often than not they range from 5-7K dmg.

Do you even see how much dmg I take from a single hit? It’s not like I can dish out insane amounts and receive none. I just out play a small group in the JP. The class isn’t unbalanced…

Thiefs should have the highest movement speed. I agree with buffing the other signets but SoS should get a 5% buff as well if not 8% to match swiftness.
