Bad surprise from TDA guild of gandara running with 6-7+randoms=10-15 streamrolling us, [CRUX], each time they saw us. Personally, at that time my client was teleporting me around, freezing at every push of theirs, but in general, i hoped to fight you alone since we had 7-8 ourselves and not with all the other guys you brought along.
Aye, sorry about that. I was leading for the first time and we couldn’t really meet anything else to get a fight from for a while. We tried not to add after a few rounds with adds, but it was hard to get a fair fight!
Would like a more fair fight soon! So give us a shout for a GvG or something, climbatize.8729 best to talk to!
Regards Puz/Nayna
Some nice reactions here already! Would really love to see some of your Armor/Trinket setups. Especially how Vet.3726 and Khenzy.9348 actually reach those numbers!
Our groups usually have plenty of Warriors and Guardians to cleanse condis, would you guys say Soldier Runes are still the way to go?
As the title says. I’m looking for a discussion on what the best all round setup would be for a tanky guardian that goes into the thick of things.
I play in a guild that goes up against much bigger numbers pretty much all the time. So we have to run tanky!
Current setup:
4 * PVT Armor with Duration Rune Mix (2 water 2 others (monk?))
2 * Berserker Armor with Rubies
Jewelry mostly Valkyrie or Celestial (where I can afford them)
Weapons: Berserker Staff (always) and GS/Hammer!
0/0/30/20/20 (AH + shouts)
What I’m looking for is 17-20+k health combined with high armor. About 500-1000 healing power! While keeping my power and crit up as high as I can!
As I’m sure many others have gone this route or something similar (or even something different you think might work for me) I’m posting here.
Let me know what you guys have come up with!
And lets discuss rune options as well.
Is boon duration worth it?
How about Lyssa Runes?
Soldier Runes (I think that with enough other guardians and warriors, its not essential for me)?
Any other nice ideas around?
This system has it flaws, as has any system. But they might be able to work them out. Biggest trouble is servers getting lots of points from lower tier match-ups. Which will in turn make their points too high compared to where they stand.
But as with anything, only time will tell!
Same issues here, Gandara server! The weird part is that it seems to affect certain zones (and even spots ikittenone) more than others.
I only play in WvW. The red border was a horrid lagspike with rubber banding and all the goodies. Then when my guild swapped to another border for me, it was almost completely gone. The only time I had it, I heard others complain about it as well.
So this seems to be a very localized server side issue..
Is there any word from Anet about this problem anywhere?
Edit: Why does it kitten up the words: ‘in’ ‘a’ ‘zone’?
Nice fighting so far! The lag has been worse though. I wonder what is causing all that! Let’s hope the patch actually fixes that!
The problem is that you somehow need people to ‘find and like’ your site.
Main thing that would keep me attracted to such a site would be:
1. Builds and their strength weaknesses (vs x as well).
2. Gear checks. How would changing x affect my settings with a certain build.
3. Video’s
I’d say go for it and good luck! There is never a sure thing, just make it if you like working on it and enjoy the thief!
Very nice build idea. Would like to try it on my old ranger ( stuck at lvl 15 ). I especially like the quickness stomping, since that is what a buddy and I have issues with roaming duo/small man!
I was wondering if it is worth rerolling Asura for their racial ‘Pain Inverter’. And adding that instead of one of the utility slots! It seems like a good option for melee Rangers, but I’m not sure if it’s worth the reroll! (from lvl 15 = 1 hour though, but human looks better)
How would you ‘adjust’ this build for small groups? If any change is needed!
And thanks for sharing everyone!
We run 5-10 people in wvw , and i dont feel like runing away from huge raids “zergs” if you want , my guys know it dunno why they still put up with me for that
![]()
Could be cause sometiems we die and sometimes we end up stomping that grp ….
It could be because we are all insane! Also, running in this game only lasts so long. Half the time we try, we bump into another zerg anyway. Better try and fight the first one!
It’s a war indeed! But when XT runs 15-20 people capping camps during daytime. I must admit I sometimes sigh.
Zerging will always be part of any wvw game. But in GW2 it gives too much right now.
Three things I would like fixed are:
1. Fix boons, they go to group only! This will remove the annoying random passerby having one of your team lose speed AND will balance out organized groups vs big blobs a little.
2. Make any siege take the same amount of time. Maybe from 15 ppl, there is a damage cap on doors. So the zerg doesn’t melt that T3 keep in seconds!
3. Remove AoE damage caps. There should be some punishment for standing on the same spot with a huge group! (I realize there is a risk that the blob will then just aoe the crap out of the smaller group as well, but usually zergs are less organized and aware, it will introduce some tactics).
All of these are obviously subject to first having culling and skill lag fixed!
nice to see Gandara wake up finaly.
What, what? Is the patch here?
Oh no, time to sleep some more! :P
We aren’t at our real game yet. But we’ll slowly get back in shape. Might get a nice boost when that patch actually hits (question would be, for how long)!
All in all, let’s have fun (and blob less)!
Luckily I’m not on t1/t2, so it’s not daily that this bothers me. But man is it annoying! It’s even worse in pve, with so many people on dragons you cannot even target them!
I’m afraid the system will never work for all servers. The top tiers will probably be more than fine with 25. But the lower ones will usually have less numbers hitting stuff.
I do like the idea to change the contested white swords though. They are just a constant sign on the map right now. I think they should only show up if more than 5 ppl are actively attacking a tower/keep.
We actually had a whole bunch of people glitch through Briar door last night. Who we kindly asked to run out again, while we took down the last 4% of the door. But I haven’t seen it happen in numbers this big before!
Now this was before the patch, so it’s probably not a ‘new’ thing!
Then come back to us! <3
We need two things to happen for that! Kodash needs to keep pushing and Baruch Bay has to recover some points!
It’s all very possible!
Had some fun fights vs TTA or TDA (can’t remember the exact Guild-Tag. The Guild with the yellow armors). One of your Guards gave us a really hard time
Recently we are altering our Setup quite a bit. Dunno if it works out.
It’s BANANA! And lets have a bunch of small man battles soon! :P
Great weekend so far! Lots of fun fights, even during the day! Keep it up!
Happy the mods got to work on the crap in here, but did they have to infract my request for their action? ;P Guess it’s just because the crap is gone as well!
Feel the love! I’d like to invite everyone to come out and play today and have fun! It’s just pixels and bananas kitten
This morning I did a little test. Since I needed some event credits for daily before heading out.
It was 10 AM on a sunday morning. I met 6 enemies total. Every single one of them had culling issues at one point during the fight.
Most noteworthy is runaway enemies. At around max casting range (1200-1500 range) they seemed to pop in and out of sight. Perhaps because they hit a ranged cap on being important or not.
The silly part here is that there was in no way anywhere near enough numbers on the map to have any form of ‘culling’. It simply cannot be needed at such a time and place. Yet it still very obviously affected the gameplay.
This needs to be fixed or rolled back quick, or my game experience will drop day by day..
15 votes so far.
Better 13%
Worse 67%
Same 20%Need a bigger sample!
Voted and bumped. Let’s get a bigger number and see if Anet takes notice!
Btw, anyone else noticed that there is now culling in pve as well? I never had that happening before (I think)!
Really not sure how to classify this culling change.
When I ran an afternoon duo. Thieves appeared better and couldn’t hide as long as they used to.
Then we started gathering some more guildies for our usual 5-10 man roaming and it got a LOT worse. Friendly targets popping on and off screen seemingly at random. Enemy duo’s changed into 10-15 when you hit them.
Hell even guards at Garrison where on my screen. Then suddenly gone. Then back again 3s later.
I don’t run zergfests, maybe those are better as well?
In short, my style of play, small man vs bigger groups got a huge hit. It’s next to impossible to get enemy numbers right now.
For the solo’s against thieves it got better.
Zergs, you guys tell me!
I agree. Buffs should go to group first. Having my group fall behind because some random run along gets the swiftness instead takes the p….
However, I think that you should do the following. Basic boons go to group first. Swiftness should just go to more than 5 and also always go to your group at least. And perhaps also always go to Dolyaks as well! :P
Problem with GvG spectatorship is that you need to know what is going on and how the game is played. sPvP has points won and capture places to keep track off. All you can see in GvG would be the dead lying around.
Now I would enjoy watching GvG more, since I’m playing that way, but I doubt those not involved could get as much into it without very good commentating! Also, I much prefer bashing heads myself!
See you out there! We are slowly pulling numbers together again after holidays!
So, there are abusing players with the same guildtag on two different servers fighting each other. Pretty much means its abusers that are more than likely not tied to these servers.
We are all sad about these abusers, report and lets move on.
‘Easiest’ temporary fix. Make all lordsrooms have their own door. So even if you fly in anywhere, you still have to break down that last door.
Other than that, it can’t be easy to fix this. They need proof before they can ban. And that takes time and manpower!

Before we get accused of exploiting, the take of Bay in AR BL from Gandara was done legit with a Mesmer hiding until he could portal us in -then managed to chain portal using other mesmers to get 40 or so of us straight onto inner
No worries, we saw you where on inner. But with just 7 of us defending. Not much could be done about it. Nice little night zerg with TUP, VII and Tainted. Have fun with the french! And a nice portal for briar, but you hardly needed that against our numbers.
Next time come find us earlier! So we can have some decent fights!
In a three way war, there will always be supposed alliances. Since it is usually smart to attack the already occupied opponent. I hope however people will decide to do this in game. Actually talking with the enemy elsewhere to agree on it sorta sounds wrong.
The holiday week makes it a weird one indeed. All sides will have ups and downs. But it’s still a pretty close race. Which makes it lots of fun!
So lets keep on killing the reds, reporting the hackers and have a good time. Happy holiday to all!
‘Bunker’ how is that bunker as I see him downing level 80 players pretty fast!
Actually, the first few minutes I saw no player without green arrow. So they are all underleveled and undergeared trying to kill a bunker build level 80. They don’t even stun/snare or pull him out of any chain..
It’s not the amount of realms causing this issue. It’s the tiers and the way points count.
Nr 3 is always better off competing with nr 2, since those points count double (they get more, direct opponent less).
To fix this, taking things from nr 1 should give more points in some way. Either by a direct points bonus on capture, or more points a tick for an amount of time after capturing.
Isn’t the bug in the wording. Since Sharpening Stones would do the same otherwise?
you have nice guilds AG. if UNITY and FURY can get their members to run like SOE or TDA from gunnars (which learned from boon control from piken and others
) you will rise higher then T6 i think. At the moment i dont see them running in tight formation and fully coordinated, i see lots of them members just running with the big zergs. But there is much more power in running tight guild groups, try to get there. When FURY and UNITY run like boon control from piken you surely will rise high in tiers =) Good luck!
Thanks for the respect, but I doubt any guild can claim they invented anything special!
There are more nice guilds out there doing their thing. And I salute every guild out there playing it their way, rather than the zerg way.
One worth mentioning from the past days is PSY from RoF. I like your style!

People just don’t understand the Rock, Paper, Scissors concept. They only see Thieves do serious numbers all the time and believe that is wrong.
Nothing new here, nothing badly needs a nerf as it is right now.
Except culling, but that’s not a thief issue, but a game wide issue.
Just use (or swap to) Thieves Guild. Nothing will live through you + pets!
On SFR we have a lot of well mannered guilds that do organised WvW. Sadly we get a lot of others (not even sure they are all playing on SFR) to badmouth opponents.
But be assured, a lot of us on the server have respect for our enemies. The game would be rather boring without them, as some are complaining about this week.
About Double Teaming. Everyone will feel that the other two servers are double teaming them. That is a result of three realms fighting amongst each other. And it will be true 90% of the time. That doesn’t mean they intentionally work together, it just happens to work out that way. Prey on the weak!
This week, we still have some nice fights. The event made last night sorta boring. A lot of our guilds also went for a look, since wvw was doing fine.
Next week, we’ll be on the receiving end of the Tier again. Let’s see how we can hold up then!
We fight, we learn, we laugh. No point playing a game if it isn’t fun after all!
I would say, it is worth it. If you want to learn your class, being on the weaker side for a bit will make you more aware of your dangers. And make you grow as a character.
Then once you hit 80 and exotic, you know how to compete and what your own weaknesses will most likely be!
If you want to xp, follow a capping group/zerg. Lots of xp, and lots of fun usually!
Yet another one of these threads. I play a thief, I play other classes. By knowing their weaknesses, you simply destroy them.
Ill give you this, yes they can escape if they use their tools that way. But they will not get you down and stomp you unless the people around you are stupid.
Sorry if that is harsh, but two aoe dmg skills on a downed person will kill the glass cannon thief. Period..
So, we need to start multiboxing to counter turtling?
Kidding aside, hell yes, remove the kitten aoe cap. Skill > numbers please!
Really, I love meeting turtles. Your tanks can soak the damage, your ranged can wipe them.
As others said, many options to wipe turtles:
1. Siege.
2. Feedback (spec it for confusion)
3. Null Field (spec it for confusion)
4. AoE dmg, you will hit max all the time.
Probably lots more! This is just from a Mesmer perspective! Just look at your skills and how you can lock down and wipe a small area!
Stop throwing dirt and start throwing punches?
You don’t see many Thieves in real sPvP. Why? Because they are easy to counter when you know what you are doing!
Yeah, just want some more attention to the topic. But since it has been moved now. The devs will have seen it at the very least! Let’s hope they agree that it is an option we need for many aspects of the game!
Commanders can form squads which I think also has its own chat channel.
Indeed they can, but that is capped at 25 people! We need to be able to communicate between the different commanders, between different maps and any other groups you want to chat between!
Let’s get Arena.net to implement them. We all know we want some more options in the chat box.
Map leaders should have a clear place to give each other info. Looking through random map spam isn’t the way forward.
What we need is:
1. Chat channels we can create and invite people to (so you should be able to password and manage it a little).
2. Make us able to give each channel / chatbox their own text color.
Let’s make our wish heard!
Practice! Pretty much all there is to it. Everyone does things their own way.
You will learn enemy looks, buffs and playstyles as you go. Read the playing field, pick your targets accordingly! If some of them go for you, generally you should be aiming for their backline friends first.
If you died and you don’t know what went wrong, check that combat log. Which skills did a lot of damage. What knocked you down! Learn and adapt!
For thief basics. We are mobile, very very mobile. So use this to your advantage. Keep moving, keep dodging. Know the range of your attacks. Shortbow nr1 and Dancing dagger (nr4) are amazing tools on the move!
And to sum it up, Practice and have Fun!
This discussion is getting old very fast. Nice little circles, but I die too fast. It’s their purpose. Who cares!
50% of it is a rendering bug.
30% of it is the thieves that are whined about are better than their targets: gear, lvl, skill!
20% Rock/Paper/Scissors!
Last night in wvw I came into the zone late. I was moving over to my group when I saw a little fluffy rabbit from our side walking around. Just the target I would squish if I was solo. And big surprise, I saw two enemy thieves circling around. Poison shot + cluster bomb on the little guardian. Steal on the one that pops, cluster bomb, one down. Stealth up to avoid getting bombed and to stake the little fellow. His friend puts up his stealth field. Three more shots on the field. Second bag appears.
Learn how to counter thieves. Then when the rendering bugs are gone, people will actually laugh at the watered down thieves.
If you must touch Backstab. Why not simply change part of the damage to a bleed.
Say:
50% direct damage, then 70% damage in a 5-7s burn/bleed!
This would keep the damage at a point where people cannot just shrug it off. But it will also give the enemy a chance to do something about getting killed.
ps; I increased the damage of the bleed part for two reasons. One, people will be able to use their heal now, so you need to compensate partly. Two, bleed damage is based on condition gear, which you don’t usually have lots of as backstab thief!
To get back on topic! Very nice fighting so far this week! Every side has their style and so far I’ve not noticed much complaining about any of it. Let’s keep it an exciting and close match-up!
Props to all the enemies, and hugs to all old friends and foes from DaoC and WaR!
