Lost Shores: A Cry for Help?

Hehe… this thread has cheered me up little about the current state of the game. Nice to think there might be some subversive shenanigans going on at ANet HQ, however useless it will likely prove to be.

Final Event Rewards

Ugh… feel a bit sick about this. Last night I read that it was only the standard DE reward (couple of silver, bit of karma etc), so when the ancient started its second (I think) call for reinforcements, I just logged out. Sorry, I couldn’t take it – it was late, I have a busy day, the fight was boring as hell…

Now I read this! I can’t believe ANet still can’t get rewards right. I killed two champs in the Lost Shore and got rubbish that wouldn’t look good from a Queensdale chest, and from what I’ve seen elsewhere, event bosses still haven’t been given the promised reward boosts. Yet they can rain precursors, an unusual trinket and 20-slot bags on those that are able and willing to make it to the end of a deeply flawed weekend event? That was basically, the one open-world PvE chest worth opening, in the whole 3 months the game has been live?

For crying out loud, stop with the gimmicks and fix the game for those of us still logging in daily!

Folks, a terrifying calamity has struck Lion’s Arch and other communities.

People need help. Now is not the time to ask “what’s in it for me?”

It’s not like the LA folk we’re giving this stuff to are any better, though. When I was turning in my consumables, I was getting 1 commendation for 30 – switch to trinkets and I’m getting 10 for 3. Bloody pirates prioritizing jewels over food in a disaster.

Totally agree with avoiding these, unless you really have tonnes of stuff to get rid of. I had an almost full guild storage tab of junk consumables from cooking, but even after I’d cooked more to get them into tens, I was only halfway to a 250-use ori pick.

I went to the TP for the rest and now realise I’ve ended up spending almost 1 gold to get that pick. Really wish I waited until I’d woken up properly before logging in this morning.

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

Then I’m definitely surprised that you’re still here, since you do not automatically get exotics when you hit 80 in the current game.

I did – I think I was about lvl 74 when I bought my first exotic set (ready for when I hit 80). I enjoy exploring and gathering, but wasn’t hooked by crafting, so I made a lot of gold selling materials during those first few weeks.

And I understand what you’re saying, but the funny part is that it’s in the current game that you have to grind for BiS. I’m suggesting that BiS be a reward for experiencing the game, not grinding it. It’s motivation for people to try out that which they haven’t done before. The new dungeon will be more randomized and therefore feel less grindy than the others. something which I think Anet should implement across all dungeons to mitigate the grind in the current dungeons.

The problem with that, is that being forced into (OK, encouraged to experience ) areas of the game you don’t enjoy for an hour or two, is still grind, even if you only have to do it a few times. I just don’t personally like the 5-man format and I won’t tolerate LFGing for groups. It’s all good, dungeons just aren’t for me, the same way WvW or SPvP are not liked by some players. It’s Anet trying to force players into areas they don’t enjoy that creates an issue for me. My mood toward these zones switches from respecting them as there for others to enjoy, to something I resent, as impacting on my game.

Anyway, it’s too soon for us to exclaim our worries of the difficulty of getting the new gear, since we can’t know exactly how hard it will be. Ultimately, the mystic forge recipes will probably depend on the things you gather on your journey to max level, I.e. like a legendary but much less grindy (hopefully).

Alas, I suspect they’ll throw a dungeon “gift” in any recipes they add, since that’s what they’ve been doing so far.

I think that the reason Ascended gear is being added to the game is because of the fact that you could attain exotic gear without ever experiencing high end content. Now I know that some people would like the BiS to be available without any effort, and hey if it were up to me there would be no gear tiers at all, but I still think that one should have to experience all aspects of the PvE game in order to be done with the gear progression.

Currently, the legendaries require that you spend time on all aspects of the PvE game and I think that BiS should be similar to that. And if this indeed was their vision, then they couldn’t have just raised the requirements for an exotic, since people already have those, but they would have to add a new tier as they are doing now.

In the end, I don’t think it has to be harder to get BiS, nor that you should have to grind for it, but that it should be a reward for experiencing what the game has to offer.

If they’d pushed that idea for the last few years, I wouldn’t be here. Max stats should not be considered a “reward”. Period.

And not everyone wants everything the game has to offer. I didn’t run dungeons last month, I didn’t run them this month and I won’t be running them next month. The game was advertised “Play your way”, not be brow-beaten and hood-winked into grinding everything.

Do you have full exotic?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Raire.7983

Raire.7983

I have two sets of exotic armor on my ranger, along with five weapons. No trinkets, as I haven’t gotten round to upgrading from karma stuff and some lower level rares. I also haven’t yet settled on which superior runes to get for one armor set, which can add quite a lot to the base price.

I really don’t agree that exotic is too easy to get. Max-stat gear should always be firmly in the realms of achievable.

I am confused!

No, you’re making stuff up. There’s a difference.

Lot’s of people complained about the monthly adding dungeons. People have also complained about the personal story forcing us into a dungeon, in its final act. Not everyone likes dungeons and that shouldn’t be news if you read these forums at all.

FWIW, I totally agree. I hate how dungeon-centric GW2 is. I anticipate the proposed mystic forge recipe will involve a dungeon “gift”, based on ANets recent behavior in this regard.

Trying to force dungeon grind seems to be the only idea they have for “improving” the endgame.

Just editing to add that this post appeared in a thread more focused on dungeons being the method to acquire these items, in case doesn’t makes so much sense since being merged into this thread.

This is awful, I just don’t have the words for how much I hate this move. The game is already too dungeon-centric in PvE, now dungeon grinders are getting a powered-up armour tier?

Are you that desperate to force us to run your blasted dungeons?

Why do I have to party up for the Story?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Raire.7983

Raire.7983

Because the whole Story is about not being able to take on the dragaon alone and requiring all of Tiraia as well as building alliances to team up with to stop the dragaon???

That doesn’t explain why it’s in a 5-man dungeon and not open-world PvE. It’s sad really – Orr is the only region of the game where the DE’s set up the expectation of an epic dragon battle (when they’re functioning, of course), but then you’re just left hanging at the door of a blasted dungeon, with LFG filling the chat box.

(I loved how in GW1 you had to team up to advance though next mission.. and I am really missing that aspect now)

You didn’t, though. It was always possible to complete GW1 solo. You can’t (realistically) even duo the last stage of GW2. I’m really annoyed about that.

I actually enjoy Orr. I do wish more players participated in the events on my server, but I still enjoy roaming, swimming and farming there solo, if I have to. My daily Malchors-Cursed gathering run is currently the highlight of the game for me.

+1 for a radically improved LFG tool. I can’t believe they’re not even working on improving access to dungeons, but can find time to add more of the blasted things. Can’t we at least have a random party join button for story mode and festival dungeons? Hot joining to fill spaces left by quitters would be nice, too.

Loot variety in open world PvE is really, really dull and it doesn’t get much better when you look on the trading post. I’d like to blame dungeons, but since dungeon runners complain too, I’m going to suggest it’s down to rewards being so specifically tied to particular tasks and areas, that it makes it all rather boring and repetitive, wherever you play.

Oh, and town clothes need auto-switching. I bought a costume over Halloween and I think I displayed it twice. Just kinda forgot about it.

Why were dungeons added to the monthly?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Raire.7983

5 dungeons over a month is going to kill you? This is like the easiest monthly achievement ever..

It’s more than I would do in a year, so yes I feel I’m entitled to complain. The people making the WvW comparison seem to neglect that WvW can be soloed and Dungeons cannot. I would rather salvage five thousand items than run five dungeons. Personal preference.

FWIW, I agree. Dungeons have been off my “to do” list ever since I found out they couldn’t be soloed or at least duo’ed, in story mode. Even with heroes in Eye of the North, I could only be bothered to do them once for the book. Just not my thing.

monthy reward: why am i forced to wvwvw?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Raire.7983

Ughh, this is just sickening. WvW is a minor hassle, that sometimes borders on fun (sometimes). But dungeons? I’m just not interested, ANet. Stop trying to force them. Not everyone wants to LFG for ages, just to get into some tired cesspit of broken mechanics for their leet hardcore gamer badge.

They are the single least appealing aspect of your game, so why force them so much? Not only do they get their own line of armor and weapons skins (each), but they’re required for Legendary weapons, they’re required for festival weapon crafting, and now they’re required for the monthly?

I’m taking the month off.

Same problem here. I don’t really play WvW, but found it quite easy to pick up the kills in a couple of evenings last month. This month is a different story – my server just seems to have given up. There’s a few players on, but not enough to deal with the zergs coming from the dominant server.

As far as I’m concerned, dungeons don’t exist at the moment.

Is it too much to ask that someone who just wants to check out story mode get simple fast access, without LFG’ing for 30 minutes? I was frankly a bit shocked that none of the improvements made in PvP (hot join, replacing team members who leave etc) made it into dungeons.

Surely players who genuinely want a social experience should be in a large guild by now, and not need to dictate how every newbie must approach dungeons? Frankly, the vitriol that always comes up against the idea of any automatic system, and the “our way or the highway” mentality, seems the very opposite of social to me.

Kill the 15% Tax

I disagree. Of all the gold sinks, it is the one that makes the most sense to me, because it is directly connected to making money. Waypoint and repair costs need a nerf, but not trade taxing.

The 15% tax should be more clearly identified/explained to players, though.

Make dungeon armors craftable and replace tokens with materials

in Suggestions

Posted by: Raire.7983

Raire.7983

Yes, it’s another dungeon rewards thread.

I’ll start by admitting straight up that I’m not terribly interested in dungeons. I never enjoyed this type of environment in GW1 – tending to only do them once and not always that. I’d rather be in open world PvE or WvW. Committing to 5-man teams for ~3 hours just isn’t my idea of a good time.

What bugs me about them, though, is not that I don’t want to do them (easy solution to that), but that they received the lions share of the prestige armor designs. There just doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of choice for the non-dungeon runner.

So my suggestion is this:

Make dungeon armors craftable – with materials that are received on completing the associated dungeon, instead of the current tokens. The armors could still be balanced so each requires ~100 runs to be made (or whatever silly figure you like), but the requirement for the individual player to perform all those runs would be removed.

Dungeon runners would be able to make gold selling the materials, crafters would have more exotic stuff to make and sell, and nobody would have to run the same dungeon over and over, in order to obtain a particular armor design.

Win/win, surely?

I have no desire to run dungeons...anyone ells?

I’ve no desire to ever play dungeons, based on what I know of them so far. I didn’t particularly enjoy these types of environment in GW1, and I also can’t tolerate LFG’ing – so no automatic grouping (at least for story mode) equals no interest in looking further, for me.
