It’s probably a good thing that there won’t be random fortunes dropped on the lucky few, but I do hope the mini can still be sold or forged. I’m not being snarky about receiving a mini-Jennah, I’m just thinking about all the clones from my alts.
I dump them on dyes every time I reach 5. I might save for the minis or the tonic someday, but I won’t get on the gear treadmill, however it manifests.
It’s a bizarre twist and there’s nothing fair about turning trash into gold, after most will have destroyed or used it for it’s only advertised purpose.
Good luck to ANet trying to make any future elections work. They’re going to have more than voter apathy to deal with, after setting this precedent.
I’m a bit disappointed to hear about tokens or buttons getting merch value. I deleted over 200 Kiel buttons yesterday, because I had the rare version as a memento and couldn’t foresee any use for the disposable versions.
Right now, it’s hard to see killing a couple of champs during an event as a farm at all.
If the champs start dropping interesting loot, you can bet people will stop killing the Claw to farm the champs. This is what we’re discussing here.
“there’s already enough people farming champs at the back” – the OP thinks farming is already taking place. It just isn’t, so the beginning of the discussion is flawed.
Frankly, I’ve no idea if this event can be abused – do champs keep spawning infinitely, or is there a limit per cycle? Do the champs spawn frequently enough, that standing there and farming them would be more desirable, than completing and moving on to other events?
I hope not and that any silly behavior will fix itself (i.e. the volume of players wanting to wait for another couple of champs will be massively outweighed by those wishing to finish and move on), but if the event is abused then I certainly would hope ANet fix it as promptly as they did Arah.
Fighting the champs in the 1st stage can often be necessary because of all the idiots who run right past and lead them to those trying to destroy the wall.
In the second stage it’s just less dull than spending all your time in the group kitten huddle at the front. Generally I grab a flame thrower and deal with the champs, pillars and anything else that wanders in.
ANet should only act if the new champ loot turns it into an abusive farm, where players are being told off for attacking CoJ, or some nonsense like that. Right now, it’s hard to see killing a couple of champs during an event as a farm at all.
edit: wow “kitten ring” for a word beginning with b and meaning dull? Awesome job swear filter!

YES!
But not if it’s too “organised” – I just want to be able to enter these games alongside a younger family member. The above guild influence idea would be useless to me.
With the gear split and no xp, it’s very hard to make time for it. Shame, because from what I’ve seen the gameplay isn’t bad.
Last I checked the Wind Catcher had gone up to 11 gold. The Sun was around 3-4 and the Storm 5ish.
DO NOT CHANGE MY SUN CATCHER!
OP does have a point, and it’s probably why the Wind Catcher is a lot more valuable, but I like a (slightly) more subtle back piece – I don’t want to log in one day and find a roaring inferno on my back. It’s quite bright enough for me already.
500 is a bit much. Many of us will be getting 400 free gems in a few days, though (5000AP Reward chest).
Personal theory: ANet are testing to see if we accept a time-gated soulbound crafting process, with a view to implementing the same for Ascended gear.
Thanks ANet, it’s awesome!
Edited out my stupid question, the mail actually says they’ll be available to buy!
(edited by Raire.7983)
my reaction: complaining about free stuff. ????
It is odd, though. I could join those asking for dungeon tokens, so I can consider working on a legendary, but I recognise that it would be a bit of a cheek for a dungeon avoider like myself to get free tokens.
Why is WvW different? Is its exotic armor and legendary contribution somehow not as big a deal, to warrant the same exclusivity for those willing to play it?
Yep, thanks ANet. They are fantastic and I’m looking forward to unlocking more!
Just want to comment on this. I’ll start by saying I don’t really care about achievements. I didn’t do anything during the Aetherblade event (too busy in rl), I did the bare minimum in Southsun, and I have plenty of incomplete achievements, in just about every category.
Yet ANet’s ongoing “support” of this map and the behavior in it is still extremely offensive to me. This isn’t a PvP map in any legitimate sense – there’s no balance, no rules. No point beyond griefing or being griefed. Without any significant WvW purpose, it’s just a JP explorable where players are allowed to troll each other. And this is OK, because you can be cheeky and call your server away from real objectives to help you? For kittens sake…
Anyway, in light of Devon’s post, I’ve just deleted all my siege and badges. I’m swearing off WvW. It’s a shame because I quite enjoyed some occasional WvW action, but you’ve gone and soured it by siding with the trolls.
I wasn’t going to comment, but since the trolls are now literally telling people to shut up about this, I will express my feelings.
I hate the Obsidian Sanctum. It’s a nasty piece of garbage designed to lure players in, only to be griefed and abused. There’s no legitimate PvP there. No balanced game design. It’s not even connected with any significance to WvW. It’s just a horrid little troll-fest.
ANet, if you can’t bring yourselves to get rid of it, at least stop pushing it. There’s a reason people don’t usually go there – it’s a rubbish experience, and one that shows WvW in exactly the wrong light to new-comers.
It always warns that, but should actually become “Account Bound” if using a low level white item. “Should” because I’ve never tried it with orders armor – so I can’t promise there’s no risk!
I’d love to see scalable dungeons. Not strictly solo, but any number of players from the max cap, right down to one. I don’t run dungeons as they’re currently set up, but I’d definitely duo them, if I had the option.
Unless they’ve pulled it since I bought one 30 minutes ago, it’s available right now!
do some dungeons
sell rare items from meta boss group events
do guild missionsyou will not feel much hurt from the way point fees anymore.
I finally reached “Golden” a couple of days ago, and WP fees still hurt.
I like the Trading Post more for a gold sink – it takes a reasonable cut directly from your real earnings. The WP fees just wipe out whatever silver you get from an event – and that’s if you make it in time. It feels too much like a penalty, and I don’t think any amount of wealth would change my opinion on that.
It would be nice if ANet could put the same stat-less strap they supply with Quaggan/Charr backpacks on an LA karma vendor. It would help a lot in these “I have a novelty cover, but I don’t want to commit it to a particular character just yet” situations.
But aren t you also supposed to get a stats less backpack from doing your story…I thought one of the rewards at a certain level was your first backpack without stats.
I think the first story back piece is lvl 30ish and soulbound. The only other stat-less back item I can think of is the engineer starter one, but that’s also soulbound on acquire.
The other problem is that not many back items will transmute to account-bound. As far as I know, the only ones that would work for this are supplied in the Quaggan and Charr Backpack Sets. These sets have a stat-less leather strap, which the backpacks can be transmuted onto and then worn by any of your characters.
Buying a set from the TP just for the strap, is an option if you don’t mind spending the gold. The extra cover can be sold back on the TP, so long as it remains unused.
I’m not a fan of invulnerability, but overall I like the change. It amazes me that people defend how it was – aren’t we usually against the game being too easy? Was it suddenly OK to instagib mobs, if it meant you could kitten over the guy 2 seconds behind you?
Sure you could head off to quiet maps (which I did and made 12 gold selling coffers on the first day), but that doesn’t make a broken event acceptable.
Mine just came. Nice enough gesture, but I would have preferred they’d just sell the whole set without any RNG funny business attached.
More HP would be nice. Plenty of people are waiting for others to reach before triggering, but it doesn’t help if someone insta-gibs the spawns.
Players could help a little by using their lower-level alts. The waypoint costs go way down and the holograms don’t die quite so quickly.
Excellent. The gemstore options are rubbish. RNG weapons and buy 2+RNG for a complete set of minis? Those decisions have saved me a lot of time/money.
I really like it now. It’s enjoyable to use and looks decent, so I don’t see any real need for further changes.
Much better, I’m happy spending my gems on more now.
3 swings is normally attributed to Mining and Lumber because you receive the materials this way. 3 swings whilst harvesting to receive 1 item is clearly wrong.
Yesterday it could at least gather 3 times per use (on nodes that gave bonus gathers), but for some reason they removed that one good feature.
Pretty awful… hope they change it. The water fountain is nice and fits the Southsun theme, but the hacking makes no sense.
My worst got stuck out of reach because it spawned in a Shadow Behemoth portal. Really frustrating…
This just happened to me. Tried twice, CTD both times.
Thankyou ANet
Going to hold my tongue on some of the ridiculous remarks people have insisted on rezzing this thread to post, because the way I feel right now, I don’t really mind so much. I’ve enjoyed playing the re-invigorated Southsun A LOT, and Crab Toss is just hilarious. So if the next update throws in a dungeon, oh well, not for me, but not something I’ll mind at this point.
I do hope the Queen Karka is an open-world meta event – and one that actually stays, because the map will need it for the longer term.
Final thought – perhaps a dungeon could have a unique version of the backpack, for those who don’t like the mass availability of the current ones? If I could suggest a version with the tentacles all going some place uncomfortable…
Blast, I failed to hold my tongue. ;P
No. New skins yes, but I’m not at all interested in new stats. I’ll only use ascended if it becomes widely available, and isn’t expensive or grindy.
Is it only certain back pieces that visually make a change
^That. Some back pieces are just for stats and don’t have a visible skin.
And you could solo what required 12 man groups in GW1? Tell me more.
Misinformed much? Two entirely optional elite missions had 12 man teams. That was how GW1 handled it’s team-only content. It was just there if you wanted it – much like PvP. No pressure.
I personally hate Spvp, but plenty of people like it so yeh they should add stuff for it.
I am sure that this new content will have stuff that you can solo and hopefully group content, assuming that they don’t succumb to the pressure of people like you guys. Adding stuff for everybody is the way to go.
Forced! The word you’re missing is forced. Nobody is complaining about content added for all types of players. If they added a new SPvP map, we would not be having hissy fits about it, unless ANet did something utterly silly, like somehow making it mandatory for WvW rank progression.
If that MF dungeon had been added as an optional elite mission to crack open the facility, to then allow large groups of randoms to pile in for a final zergy battle against the alliance, then nobody would be complaining! (Unless it occurred during a narrow window around 3am, of course).
I love open-world. I like the freedom, the art, the atmosphere (even the social atmosphere around events or in WvW). I like zipping through things I actually want to do. I can get caught up in something and stay somewhere for hours, but I like to be able to switch zones or even characters if nothing grabs me.
I haven’t been in any GW2 dungeons, but my feelings on dungeons generally (including from single player games) are that I can’t stand them. I don’t like linear content. I generally don’t like being “stuck” inside something. I don’t like committing to an activity for a period of time, that I probably won’t enjoy. And I find LFG’ing, for access to content, to be something of a hurdle.
In my experience, they drop more on new characters. I’ve had two in the past fortnight, and both were on an alt I’ve been re-rolling.
Enter their name in your friends panel, then right click on the name and select report. It can help to screenshot them, to avoid missing the name.
All of you complaining about dungeons, is the achievement really that important to you?
I mean there are screenshots proudly claiming 0 dungeons completed from the achievement list as some kind of badge of honor in these threads.
That was me and you clearly didn’t get the point of the post. I was responding to someone who said dungeons were the main “endgame” with a screenshot to show that I’d been playing for over a thousand hours without ever entering one. Nothing to do with achievements.
It’s a forum – argue with individual points, don’t muddle them together as though you’re talking to one person.
Dungeons are also a core part of GW2 (omg, ikr, SHOCKED) being one of the primary ways to obtain gear and the main part of the endgame content
For you. Took me a while to find where they are even tracked. Just sayin’…
I do gathering runs everyday, and I report instances of appear/gather/disappear. I’m pretty confident I’m only reporting the guilty, since I tend to see them multiple times, doing nothing but appear/disappear on different nodes. The ones farming Orr on my server are helpfully mostly wearing the same guild tag, too.
As an example I’ve attached screenies from yesterday. The guy appeared on one node ahead of me. Gathered, disappeared, then re-appeared again on the node next to me, gathered and disappeared again. No way that wasn’t a bot. And he was wearing the usual tag.
I hate them. I report them all and let ANet decide.
Just finished a couple of gathering runs, they are still character based for me. Good thing too – I would have been a bit hacked off, having bought 3 Molten picks!
MMOs are for that.To meet new people and to group up
That’s really narrow. MMO’s should be for a wide range of people, not your own personal ideal.
I find it uncomfortable chatting with people I don’t know. Yet I enjoy open world (even with those pesky other players around!), I enjoy WvW. I enjoy co-op, with an actual person in the same room as me. But I don’t pug. I would have done this duo’ed, I might have hot-joined a random group – but LFG’ing for access to content? Ugh.. no thanks. Sorry if I’m not sociable enough to play an MMO.
This shouldn’t even be an issue, though. There’s no reason for ANet to be forcing dungeons into story content. They could have used the plot to introduce the dungeon, without making it a mandatory step.
It’s like ANet has two playbooks – one for creating accessible, inviting content for a more casual audience, and the other for more hardcore team players. I can respect that – GW2 needs to appeal to different types of players, but why bind the two together if you don’t have to?
I’ll save some of you the time: “Duh, it’s an MMO stupid!”
I forgot the times when devs were actually adding new skins to end game and not a kittening gem store…
Sadly, the gem store has kinda become the end-game for me. The exchange rate might be awful, but at least buying with gold=play your way. More than I can say for any of the other reward schemes.
