Great to hear! Posted one of these myself a few weeks back, having played I don’t know how many mmos at this point, GW2 is definitely up there among, if not THE best there is.
Welcome back!
www.varshen.com
If you leave, then you will miss stuff and not get the chance to do it ever again.
Doubled edged sword that, motivates players to stay but also excludes new player from old content.
True, I’ve missed so much content which’d be cool to do – but it was my choice not to login, I got over it pretty quickly :P
www.varshen.com
Look for yourself:-
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates
Well there as been some new permanent content added since you last played, about 70%-80% was temporary and you missed it and will never get the chance to play it EVER.
So there you go…
I’m sensing subtle undertones of discontent here… nah, maybe it’s just me.
Yep living story is still temporary content largely, still people think they need to point this out in every thread on the forums.

I don’t see any problems with the train as an idea. Sure, there’s always one or two kittens claiming anyone encountering a champ without the train is ‘stealing their mob’ etc, but as an intelligent person I know that’s not representative of the whole community.
If that particular issue could be dealt with, train is fine, at least it makes the starter zone feel pretty well populated.

Negative:
Ugly armor sets !!! (really important for her)
That she could chose a weapon after the “tut” with no idea why and what they do
Really hard to learn cause there isnt a real tut
jumping puzzle
confusing minimap
Just wanted to respond to a couple of these.
- First on armor – yep some of the low level stuff is ugly as sin (low level stuff always is), but you can transmute higher level skins onto lower level gear – something most mmos would never allow you to do – ugly armor solved.
- Jumping puzzle – I really enjoy these. Yes, I actually pound the table when I slip and fall – but all part of the experience, to actually let out an audible ‘whoop’ when you get to the end just tells me that these puzzles are doing their job. Solved
- Don’t think of weapons and combat as you would with another mmo. Think more horizontally. Of course you can pick up another weapon because really, why wouldn’t you be able to? Doesn’t mean you’ll be any good at it though, for that you need practice. The more you use a weapon, the more weapon skills become unlocked. Go with the flow and use what’s comforable – solved
- Minimap – can you elaborate on what’s confusing about it? It shows icons like a standard minimap, also highlights nearby events etc. Plus if you hover over one of your quests, it’ll flash/emote on the map too to show you which way to go.
Trust me, I hated this game at release, really couldn’t get it at all. But once you let go of what other games have trained you to do in the past, it’s actually far superior to anything else. Here’s an article I read earlier today on GW2 that sums it up quite nicely: https://www.tentonhammer.com/features/opinion/how-to-love-guild-wars-2
Hope that helps

Imo it should be possible to display your guild logo on all existing armors. Not make a seperate armor for it.
If this was at all possible as an option, I’d snap it right up – even if it ended up in the gem store!
www.varshen.com
Well yeah. representing the guild and showing it off is kinda lackluster so far.
At the beginning we only had the the guild armor, the guild weapons and the ability to present our guild banner at forts in WvW.
We got some updates with the guild backpack, guild banner potion and the guild kite, but these are still not for everyone.
Now the thing is: They dont have to be seen in a great way.
Many people just want to put their guild on their armor, just knowing it to be there. This could simply acomplished with some dedicated emblem places on each armor.
They could start with the basic body armor, alowing us to put a patch with our emblem on it.Then they could expand it to others, maybe on leg armor, which would allow the emblem being on the skirts. For armor with a lot of things dangling on the belts, they could have one piece of leather dangling around with the guild emblem.
Furthermore they could make it an update to the crafting system.
Allowing high lvl crafter to update existing armor with an guild emblem spot, wit a bit of aditional items (depending on the armor type)Of course since giving away your armor would not be working with the current system, you would have to do it yourself, however new crafted armor could be sold with a guild emblem ability, creating a “refined” version of the allready existing armor piece.
it would be something to put in some meat into the crafting system and would allow us to display our guild a bit more, without looking to silly (which in the end depends on the guild emblem. We cannot fight against the rainbow unicorn guild with pink and green emblem
) and breaking the imersion.
This is exactly what I had in mind! Doesn’t need a dedicated massive space on the chest, maybe a smaller spot on the shoulder? Or chest pocket? Doesn’t need to be overly visible, just there.
Capes, well capes could assist in this – it’ll ensure one very clear spot regardless of logo placement on the other pieces (although I probably wouldn’t wear it
)
www.varshen.com
Yeah agree to an extent, but surely they could just reuse existing skins – a quick fix
www.varshen.com
Can we get some more guild armor skins. Having just the one really limits how many people are going to opt to wear it, depending on whether you like the design or not (I don’t :P). Some variety would be great.
www.varshen.com
Can’t comment on pvp but for pve, warrior gets boring really quickly. Main is currently ele, main alt is thief – both much more fun to play
www.varshen.com
You’ll find players around starter zones – Queensdale especially for the train. Other than that I believe it’s quiet until nearer endgame (could be wrong – I’m only lvl 50 myself).
If you want to group try LFG or map chat to get some people together. For conversation and to stop it feeling so empty, join a guild too – also another good source for grouping
www.varshen.com
I’d could go with this idea – although I would still like adequate rewards for completion.
As someone who dropped the game shortly after release (took me some time to ‘get it’) I’ve missed out on so much of the LS I’d like to experience. So yep, /signed

Not a QQ or a flame, a straight up question. Why do we not yet have even a couple of slots for consumable items?
Going to start embarking on dungeons soon, and the QoL improvements and sheer convenience this could add is massive. I’ve seen these threads going back to launch, so is there any particular reason it hasn’t been implemented yet?
PS to the devs – even in the gemstore I’d be happy to fork out for this!
edit: 68 views and no responses – anyone else got any info on why we don’t have this in game?

I’m not a lore buff so forgive any ignorance here but:
Cat people (ala FFXIV)?
Something like the Castanic or Aman from Tera would be very cool!
www.varshen.com
It’s the course of the empire, except for games. I’ve seen it happen many times now:
First, everyone gets the game and everyone is happy for awhile.
Then, eventually the shine wears off and a lot of people leave for other things.
The more hostile players remain, usually because they are more obsessed, and they begin driving off everyone else with their nonsense.
The game doesn’t function that well anymore, because the friendlier elements are driven off, and people new to the game don’t like the hostilities, and various events and economies depend on a certain population size.
Eventually the game dies off, and the hostile players move on to the next thing to ruin.Repeat for infinity.
Wow, that’s possibly the most depressing gaming post I’ve ever read :/
www.varshen.com
Definitely agree with all of this. Map specific content is the only way to repopulate empty areas +1!
www.varshen.com
My problem with all the GW2 hoopla will be solved on 4/4/14.
Have you played it yet? I certainly won’t be buying based on my time with it.
www.varshen.com
I’d be thrilled at a global chat channel – player created or otherwise.

This really bothers me. I’ve played enough MMO’s where they have a decent amount of weapon and armor skins. However, in GW2 there seems to be a severe lack of weapon and armor skins outside of the TP/Gemstore.
In particular, when you complete a heart (or even random drops, for that matter), you go to the heart vendor and you see all of these elaborate names for the weapons and armors they have. Only, when you purchase those elaborately named weapons and or armor you find that its the same generic skin you’ve already seen a MILLION times since starter zone. This is really bad, imho. Not too mention, a let down. Is this something they’re going to look into at some point?
There could always be more. Then again there’s a ton more than FFXIV which I’ve not long come from.
If this is true then FFXIV isn’t even worth the space it would take up in my comp.
To be fair, skins or no, it’s a fantastic game. Similar to this one in some respects. In both cases I’m happy with one good looking set of armor – mechanics and gameplay are far more valuable than shinys imo.

Male asura engi – sooooo much fun!

So i just change my guild tag on the fly, when im low on health?
Not really much of a PVPer myself (yet) but the obvious solution would be that changing guild etc is disabled/not allowed during combat. Stick on a cooldown of a few minutes when leaving combat too and viola – solution!

Thanks guys, I’ll keep trying /rant over!

So I’m trying to find a group to do AC, I’m lvl 38 and looking to do story mode (lvl 30). Honestly, I’ve never done a dungeon before in GW2, but loved doing dungeons in other games while levelling – it’s a change of pace, and mixes things up, a break from the norm.
So why is it so difficult to find a group? I’ve asked guildies, I’ve asked in game, I keep hearing the same thing – too hard/slow/scared.
Honestly, I’m gobsmacked. Generally I’m a huge fan of this game but what the hell? Dungeons should be accessible during levelling otherwise there’s only one real pve option available for 80 lvls – exploration (hearts/events).
www.varshen.com
Zoja has her goggle on in the cutscenes. I’ve never noticed this before, has headgear always been removed? Is this as intended?
www.varshen.com
Not sure if this has been reported before, did a ‘monocle’ search and came up with nothing.
It doesn’t appear in the cutscenes on my Asura personal story. Disappears entirely?
www.varshen.com
I’m not there yet level-wise simply because I can’t stop rolling alts. But this is a great idea, there are so many possible builds in game that this would make sharing them soooooo much easier!
www.varshen.com
Great find! Very exciting news!
Not sure it’ll be an expansion though, I can hope, but I imagine it’ll be more something like the 2.1 patch over at FFXIV recently. I just hope they communicate what’s coming in it prior to the Summer – will give the player base something to look forward to.

I stopped playing almost a year ago after getting 1000+ hours… I really like this game and want to play it but it feels bland for some reason, is there any new ways to level or is it just the same “hearts” or WvW. Also is WvW still a zergfest?
Thanks
Yep still the same. Hearts, events, bosses, gathering, crafting, exploration, WvW, Dungeons – loving it!

Good morning everyone!
- Too much content, impossible to know what to do and when. Came back a few months back, only to be overwhelmed with new portals, NPCs, etc… So many I got overloaded and left again.
- Open world events exploitable. Spam AoE and you get insane amount of XP. Heal and support others, and you get none.
Thanks, and have a lovely Sunday!
Hey just wanted to add my two cents on these points, and welcome back by the way!
You’re right there’s an absolute ton of stuff to do while you’re levelling, and it can get massively overwhelming, in fact the non-linear progression is one of the reasons I originally quit shortly after launch (been back a few weeks myself).
Best help I can provide for that is to advise you to just change your mindset. Don’t come into the game thinking ’I’m going to run quests A, B and C today’, come into it thinking ’I’m going to explore one new area today.’
The world is totally open (level dependant of course). Yep there’s a bucket load of stuff, but there’s absolutely no pressure to do it all, or in any particular order. Because levels scale, you can leave stuff for months, go back to do it later and still get the full benefits of the XP (and the loot drops which will scale up to your current level).
Currently my Asura is levelling in the Asura zone and also in the human zone, simply because I prefer those two. If I get bored of one and want a change of scenery, I’ll port over to the other and uncover some more map, doing the events I find along the way.
It’s a very casual, easygoing approach, but you’ll be surprised how quickly you level and how much you enjoy it!
As for open world events, they can still be a bit of a zerg-fest, but they’re quite enjoyable, the XP and loot can be good too and again, don’t seek them out, just do whatever you happen to run into on any given day – no pressure to go to any particular place or do any particular thing.
www.varshen.com
Too much content?
You’re strange, since everything is just removed ~fortnightly anyway.
Not everyone talking content is referring to Living Story, there’s a lot of other stuff to do before you even scratch the surface of LS.
www.varshen.com
I’ll give you 2 weeks before you go back on most of what you said.
Any particular reason?
I’m not saying the game is perfect, but it’s certainly not the mess a lot of people (even regulars on these forums I notice) seem to think it is. It’s another way for an mmo to operate, and based on everything else I’ve tried, it’s the most feature packed an intricate I’ve seen.
If you enjoy or don’t mind crafting and farming mats you should be fine. Once you get to end level it is the only realistic way to get the top gear for your toon. I used to feel the same way you described yourself until I got all my toons maxed. Then might feel stifled unless you can deal with farming mats and crafting as a carrot on the stick.
And for those who say that you can enjoy everything in the game with one tier below Ascended I say it’s true. But everyone could also get around the world on a Yugo, but most of us want the best vehicle we can afford.
I’ve yet to get to endgame so not entirely sure about this but doesn’t endgame armor come from dungeon runs & fractals?

Just wanted to stop by and say, well, I’m loving Guild Wars 2!
This weekend I’m supposed to be in a beta stress test for another game which shall remain nameless, but playing that for a few hours last night made me realise just how much this game has compared to all other mmos!
Oddly enough, I’m doing the same thing this weekend… but after a few hours last night, I think I’ll be back in Tyria today.
I had a beta invite from another big name game and I’ve been trying it out. It’s not bad….it’s pedestrian. They have a whole lot of work to do before it’s half the game that Guild Wars 2 is.
Agreed! If we’re talking about the same game, spent around six hours in it and still no more invested or interested than I was before!
www.varshen.com
I’ll give you 2 weeks before you go back on most of what you said.
I play since release day and still play several hours each day and love it.
Then you should be in the class of people who suffer the most from the games problems.
Maybe some of the problems – like my own issues with lack of mounts or consumable UI slot, are a matter of taste or opinion? Maybe some people just don’t see your problems as being as much of an issue themselve, or maybe some people are just more optimistic
I have read a few posts which seem to state that more permanent content is coming this year – all players mind you, no devs. How much of the content released last year was permanent? I know the bulk of it was temporary but wondering how the permanent content volume stacks up against other mmos out there?
PS – Another thing I would love to see is an expansion, although I know it might be ways off yet!

Just wanted to stop by and say, well, I’m loving Guild Wars 2!
This weekend I’m supposed to be in a beta stress test for another game which shall remain nameless, but playing that for a few hours last night made me realise just how much this game has compared to all other mmos!
Bit of background: I bought this game at launch, played for a couple of weeks, but due to the lack of linear progression, the lack of npcs telling me where to go next and the fact that the personal story wasn’t always readily available, I quit.
I came back a few weeks ago, and wow have I been missing out!
I’ve played many other mmos (LOTRO, SWTOR, CO, STO, Tera, TSW, and most recently FFXIV to name a few) so know a thing or two about what I like and dislike. I think the reasons I’ve finally fallen in love with this game are as follows:
- The ‘dynamic’ nature – yes, I know, nothing here is truly dynamic. But I love the fact I can set my goals based on where I want to go – not based on how many levels or tokens I need to collect. I can login with one goal (explore a village for example) and during my travels I’ll save the town, help the locals, find some beautiful locations and ding a few levels.
- The combat – I love the dodge, simple as that. You need to pay attention to combat in this game, you can’t just spam keys 1-4 subconsciously, and that makes for a much more engaging experience.
- The world – it feels truly alive. Again this is somewhat down to the ‘dynamic’ nature of things, there’s always something unexpected happening, wherever you are. Add to that the npc dialogue, the random conversations you’ll eavesdrop on along your way, and it truly feels like a living, breathing world.
- The UI – very clean, very simple. One bugbear (and it is a biggie) is there being no UI slots for consumables, as a result, I buy very little, but there have been a few times a healing potion of some kind would’ve come in handy for sure!
- The ingame community – are fantastic. The whole casual group nature of the game fits perfectly with my playstyle. You’ll meet people along the way that you fight with, grouped or ungrouped and there’s no competition there, just camaraderie.
- The sidequests and points of interest. Diving goggles? Mini games? If you want to take a break from questing (which despite the marketing, does get grindy at times) there’s still plenty to do, again it all feeds into this being a complete, living world.
- No subscription fee – don’t get me wrong, I’ve bought more than my fair share of currency for transmutation stones etc, but I love that I have access to the whole game right off the bat.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not gushing for the sake of it, there are things missing I’d love to see or simply issues which I’ve found difficult.
- Yes, I’m sorry but mounts is one, regardless of waypoint travel, it just doesn’t feel the same not being able to ride through this world in style.
- The aforementioned consumable UI slots is another.
- A better vanity system or an easier way to obtain transmutation stones.
- The ability to have guilds linked at character level rather than account level – there is no anonymity in this game whatsoever, so if you want to take a break and chill on your own, good luck!
- The sheer number of possible builds. I found this so overwhelming! Almost to the point of dealbreaking. There are just far too many combinations all serving their own purpose, I’m not a very technical guy, so picking/making a build out of the thousand odd possible combinations of skills/traits/armor etc is a bit of a headache.
- Better FPS in crowded zones. I’ve got a pretty meaty build of a PC, it’s not top of the pile but it’s certainly high end, so it was surprising to see my FPS plummet in Lion’s Arch.
So in short (okay this is anything but short), this is a great mmo. There’s a lot here that other mmos I’ve played have all sorely lacked. I think the reason I quit GW2 initially is because I simply didn’t ‘get it’. I was waiting to be told what to do, waiting for the npcs to start sending me on my way and I kept comparing it to everything else I had played up until that point. Once I chilled out, realised it’s all about the exploration and journey and just went on my way, I fell in love!
Thanks guys – keep up the good work!

) and breaking the imersion.
