Suggestions to balance stealth

Stealth isnt so much a problem, its just bugged right now, the core problem in the game are faceroll 10k damage abilities … backstab, hundred blades, etc. Between thieves, mesmers and warriors most peoples gripes can be found in highly unbalanced, spammable instagib abilities that promote a zerg playstyle, why not zerg when your combined spammable attacks do about 50k damage before you even do your other attacks.

I made a mesmer and know nothing about them really, I can rack up 200 points at least just speccing some condition illusion heavy build with decent power, take invis utility some clones and decoy and some random staff scepter set up, when in doubt go invis hide behind some rock and make more clones, illusions. Hard to kill the real me when im hiding and shattering you every few seconds. I played a thief and it hands down is harder to play than a Mesmer, at least they have to think about what they are doing, the one thing I do that actually works against this “Class” is weapon bounce http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bounce abilities and AOE, luckly my spec has both so I can default kill the illusions, but not everyone can.

I think OP is right and should not hesitate to ask for not only more healing but we should all be a little more angry that support not only takes a back seat but is nerfed while dps is steadily being buffed. The ranger class right now, no word of any future buffs to support abilities, combat medic style play, no just buffs to dps, Necromancers have no choice but to be dps because their healing abilities and life gain are quite frankly useless… 27 points of lifegain, give me a break please. Guardians, retaliation nerf, sure that makes sense considering it was one of the few defenses in the game to instagibbing and now they want to nerf bunker builds I hear, sure thats fair we cannot have thieves working to kill someone now can we. Mesmers power crit and condition builds, the end. Thieves, Warriors, well you can understand them being mostly condition crit builds, Elementals and Engineers, well you have a few bunker style engineers I suppose but mostly I see condition set ups.. when I ever do see these two classes. No ranger spirit builds around anymore? thats because they were nerfed, couldnt be instagibbed so they had to go. I have a necromancer alt I refuse to ever play again until they do something fair about healing from lifesteal 27 points with traits and gear apposed to whats is base damage for backstab? How about hundred blades how much is the base damage for that, how much damage does one take from retaliation, these are all trick questions.

If you want to put a stop to zerging make support abilities worthwhile and stop buffing already spammable 10++ K abilities.

Well dps or usefulness of weapons is the prime concern, LB is not even half as good as thief Shortbow.. actually LB is about the worst weapon slot in the game, pet pathing and AI is bad although necromancer minions are really really bad, one handed swords have good abilities on paper but are not practical in pvp neither is dagger you just end up whiling around and stabbing the sky. Trap builds are FORCED to use 3 traps to do viable damage which means no stun break utility which means traps need a serious buff or hide in plain sight does. Pet options should extend past some combination of Lynx, some kind of cat or river drake or maybe a bird and if a thief with 10k health can just ignore your pet and beat you to death while in perma stealth, something is wrong. Your permanent pet with traits and skills that can die, should probably warrant more respect than an insta cast berserker mesmer clone that can be cast every few seconds. Pets set to defend should also probably peel off other pets and illusions/minions attacking you, your in fight with a mesmer, his mob is attacking you, your pet is attacking him ha ha who comes out on top, trick question. Our downed ability is not great, I notice a total lack of cheese for us while other classes can stealth, come back to life, make clones or turn into mist, our options are, pet sits on our face.. …. great. In theory we have spirits and heal/support trees which are just not practical. What is the benefit of immobile spirits in the first place they are not that great when they move around, what warrants a TRAIT to make a spirit move, why make something with a built in flaw. .. really just questioning the design of that thought process from the bottom up. Why is the gap closer for long sword more viable to getting to an enemy than longbow.

The Ranger class is full of very straight forward questions about Duh abilities.

Longbow DPS should be increased ~50%.

I play Ranger Axe spec but when I did use LB it was good for pinning when in a group fight or the knockback was nice. What needs help is long range shot, which does not do damage fast enough is not practical in pvp combat unless your foe is far away and for some reason cannot move. I think the primary attack from LB should be the first of 2 maybe 3 tiers of attack for the weapon, 1 the distance shot, 2 maybe a stun or daze effect, or some other utility to buy you more time to do rapid fire and other abilities considering the weapon is too slow in a practical way. Otherwise people will just use
SB.

I will gripe about things that annoy me, but never insult these devs, Devs that actually talk to you daily on the forums, on cough another game I played certain classes are lucky to get any feedback once a year and usually either third person or you find out during the patch. These forums are also not FLOODED with paid moderators who have personal agendas and go into GOD mode with forum bans.

It is a matter of perspective, if you played GW1 and only GW1 you probably think this is normal mmo forum behavior, you have not experienced the forum Fascism of WOW or the blatant disdain for player concerns shown on other games or certain devs who carry that attitude with them from game to game. As long as they never hire Tom Chilton or Greg Street consider yourselves lucky.

How important are the pets for Necro?

Pet AI is so bad that if their was a good build with them you would never know it, they just stand there and watch you die, I only found the elite pet useful for the knockdown, then he just watches you die and the worm is ok just as a cheap stun break, other than that standing on top of a rock will render all your minions useless. I main a ranger and my pet ai is bad buy necro takes the cake. Also on the capricorn map you play with a handicap, whenever you jump in the water your minions all die. So you are effectively blocked from defending the underwater point. Mesmer is the only class with worthwhile pets, which is sad considering theirs are all insta cast spells some of which happen on basic auto attacks…. something is just not right about that.

I have fun although I feel trapped in my current ranger trap spec just to deal with infinite invis Thieves,High crit Mesmers and warriors spamming Hundred Blades. Its not a l2p issue I WIN most of the time in those match ups, however I feel like I am playing with an imposed handicap.

The bottom line is this in any game you have active and reactive elements, now if half the classes in the game are forced to be reactive players because 3 classes are allowed to spam the kitchen sink at them with no fear of repercussions then it has gone Far Beyond a simple patching problem, its means that class design in lop sided.

That being said I just want my pet to be as smart as any Mesmer illusion. Would it be ok if it had the intelligence to run down the steps and fight the guy I am shooting at. Or use its highly situation F2 abilities on intended targets. I dont think you should have the same AI reaction to protecting screech that you have for rending talons.

Hmm don’t know if it has always been this way since I just started using it in my new set up, but the tooltip for protecting screech says 11 seconds, the wiki says 10 seconds, in reality it is 3 seconds. Which one is it supposed to be?

Wondering if any other pet abilities are not working as they should or if the tooltips are wrong.

Also I hope the fix does something about pet pathing for Rangers, actually if all pets were as smart as Mesmer phantasms that would be great.

Even reducing other profession bugs, mesmers are over the top in pvp, and half of their attacks are controlled by A.I. When I play my mesmer I can control much more the environment cause my pets are doing the job.

Well consider this my pet AI is not .. ahem cough as good as I would like it to be, the pathing is GOD AWFUL, if you are stainding on a wall shooting down your pet will stand there like a moron half the time and not attack unless you A. jump down and give up your position or B. it was already attacking said target, Mesmers to put it lightly do not have this problem. Necromancer AI is even worse, actually Necro AI is beyond bad. So buffing some things to be even in par with Mesmer pets is a step in the right direction, I have no idea why there is such a disparity in AI effectiveness. Also necros get screwed on the capricorn map since their summoned minions DIE whenever they hit the water, where as a Mesmer has them available on recast nearly instantly and Necros Rangers still have cooldown timers from before they died when they respawn, so another problem is Mesmers have no CD what so ever, losing a clone/illusion is nothing to them, I also do not think illusions should even touch the damage of a real pet or minion or player considering the casting time disparity, so yes those are problems but should not be addressed until they FIX the broken mechanics of other classes. so not to create the opposite problem down the road. They just need to HURRY UP about it.

I wish the maps were about 30% larger and had 2 maybe 3 more smaller minor nodes and they worked like resource nodes like from the Warhammer rts. Which you could use to summon bosses etc. Also the bosses could be more challenging to put it lightly.

The maps need to be less Zerg friendly possibly the addition of more npc enemies would be nice.

I am uneasy about calling for nerfs, I play ranger and usually get around 300ish in casual games and there are probably on average two rangers per casual pvp game maybe. I think Warrior blade spam is the most faceroll tactic there is, having played a thief and Mesmer they do have combos but you do have to have some competency to do them. However I think If they FIX the broken mechanics of Necromancer, fix some things about ranger, and address the issues like the invisibility bug things will balance themselves out, THEN after they address the bugs and skills/traits that do not work then they can address any nerfs they may need. I would hate for nerfs to reduce the number of viable builds for any class if anything they need to increase viable builds for other classes.

IT does get sort of old when you look at the ways that you die and most of the time it is one of 3 things, Backstab spam, HS spam, or Hundred blades spam. I mean I have a thief alt, its not hard, just keep pushing one when in doubt push two then push 3, when you run out push one for a few more seconds steal instagib push 5, instagib. A blind person could do it. You could probably get 200+ scores with a thief without even selecting your traits. Pick your weapon combo, dagger dagger, sword dagger, pistol with anything, doesnt matter, same rule applies.

Ranger does not feel hard to me, but then again I usually end up playing some kind of ranged archer on every mmo I have ever played to the point I feel like playing ranger is cheating. I think Elementalist is harder to master than a Necro, I think necro is a higher learning curve as well but it seems worse than it is because of the bugged abilities that do not work, a fully functional Necro that can utilize more than one spec and maybe who has lifegain that SCALES in some sort of sane way ( not 27 lifegain lol) seems like it would be far more durable than an elementalist. After that Engineer… I really respect good engineers, I do not see enough of them in games.

Meh My ranger has taken similar damage from warriors doing the same thing, I would rather fight against the invis bug with a HS spammer than deal with that. Unless my pet by itself justifies an 18K+++ bladetrail this is different from Mesmers and thieves who just aggravate me, this is just an I win button, god forbid you have already popped a Cooldown to break out of stun and used your endurance up in a Zerg when this comes barreling at you, normally I get hit with this while trying to ward off numerous thieves so it would be nice if it were a 1v1 balance issue however we are not fighting in 1v1 games.

But as stated its a bug, thank god.

in all honesty if you play a burst spec with no vit or toughness you cant really complain about thiefs damage because obviously you are trying to do the same thing to them..

its hypocrisy to its fullest.

Yet when a Thief plays like that, its fine. Because thanks to instant-gapclosers and stealth he will always get the first strike and win. And even in toughness and vitality you still eat a ton of damage.

And we already see a ton of people changing classes. Have a look in any starter level zone, or in sPvP. There is a disproportional amount of fresh Thieves.

Have to agree on this. For some reason it is totally ok, that thieves can run around naked, while the rest of us have to be tanks. No other burst-specc can be as survivable nor come close to the burst (I can’t speak of warriors, since I don’t play that class). I dare say that as an absolute in the current state, and I would normally never go around making up absolutes.

There is only one other class, where I can run around naked … which of course is mesmer … and I get openly assaulted, when I beat kitten-thieves hitting my clones, while they are perfectly ok with their AS-softcore-builds insta-gibbing ppl with 3k armor … sigh. No, I don’t mind it, the mentality among some “pro-players” is just … weird.

It is not like the game is unplayable, but if I want to go in pug-groups (of any kind), it is “always” full of thieves, and to survive that I have to go full bunkers (or condition), unless I want to play … thief. Which I don’t. On the positive side, I get to know a lot of bunker/condition-builds.

When I pug on my necro or ele I run a balanced build on both, and do fine against thieves. Anecdotal evidence is insufficient for proper balance.

I also do fairly well on average against thieves, with every class I have played. I also fooled around with a thief just to plan against them. They are far less faceroll than a guardian to play and far more squishy, I main a Ranger and IF I have time to prep I can make short work of MOST standard thieves in a few hits after they try to steal right on top of a spike trap. The smart ones do not fall for this and, well things get interesting.

Well being a more evolved plant they can probably pick and choose how they sustain themselves by need, much the way humans do compared to our more primitive relatives. Keep in mind some plants on earth stay alive in very unique ways. Sylvari remind me most of Delvians in their appearance and even culture in a way.

They had it in UO to, I used it on a few specs however with the short duration of stealth in this game it would turn rangers in to too much of an unbalanced counter spec for thieves. Because it would also come with its own combo field or have a combo field in certain situations, and pro teams would min max that in a heartbeat. Which is one of the things I wanted to get away from. I play trap spec ranger anyway so I dont really have a problem with it. AOE is your friend.

I was pleasantly surprised and was not a fanboi from the beginning but I will give anything a shot that gives the shaft to gear loot progression. Now I find myself defending the game from Panda lovers. Those people have a mental illness.

There are plenty of good support and or healing specs out there that manage to get 200 or more point games, however you will not be rewarded for dropping healing spring and then dying or standing behind a wall casting healing rain. And there is plenty of points to be made off Resurrections but that would require you to actually get into battle and rez people as apposed to trying to passively get points for casting a few heals and running away. Game is not holy trinity, if you try to build an all or nothing heal spec be prepared to be disappointed because almost every spec has a heal that effects other people even thieves heal you when they use Shadow refuge. However they do alot of other things while in shadow refuge not just sit there waiting for free points to tick.

Having a HS thief try to HS spam me with his two button only to realize I am not a squishy condition spec, proceed to stack vuln on him while ignoring the bleeds, give him back his bleeds while stabbing my dagger in his face, they usually die or run.

But seriously… just kill the phantasms. If they pose such a serious threat, surely 3-4 auto attacks are worth it.

Yeh simply kill the phantasms while the mesmer crit shots you and makes you do damage to yourself while not taking any damange at all, by the time their dead you may have 20% health left, good plan, or just attack the real mesmer and let his phantasms crit shot you while you are forced to do damange to yourself.

You know the POINT of having no holy trinity is to not have this kind of imbalanced crap. Mesmers basically hold point better than guardians and do more crit damage than a thief. This is not a counter class your screwed against this class game, some classes are just broken so badly it seems that way.

Funny thing is I beta tested Mesmers and Necromancers and they had the opposite problem then. Seems like they went overboard in both directions.

DS is fine that is true, it is the rest of the class that needs work, DS is a mechanic all necromancers have, thats like saying that because shields are powerful and can block, that warriors dont need but one spec and then give them two handed weapons that don’t do any damange, hrm,.. what spec will they play, gee.

Maybe related when I hotkey strafe and enable the controls to follow my toon, sometimes it does the REVERSE and does NOT follow me, if I log on with another toon it does with it disabled. I think there is a serious bug somewhere in the movement strafe left right controls.

This happens to me at least once a day, I am at the mercy of when the game client will allow me to play. I SHOULD NOT have to do another blasted work around to play the game. If it is a problem, PATCH IT. It has been on overdrive today, every time I leave a spvp match, booted.

What they need to do is make it useful, I can understand if they do not want life drains for 50% health in one shot kind of thing, but their needs to be more than ONE viable spec for Necro, I play an odd spec for fun, but there is no way I could run that thing in spvp tournaments.

But Jesus someone with a full Vampire/healing spec, should not be pinging 28kittenpoints of health, just slap them in the face instead, or sleep with their girlfriend.

I 1v1 people with a non condition vampire spec, my damage mitigation is awesome and I eat dual pistol engineers alive, pretty good point holder and 1v1 spec, but anything is possible with necro I do feel like we need buff here and there, but at least it is interesting to play one, and necro off specs like that can really throw people for a curve sometimes.

The only thing that needs to be fixed about downed state is that Mesmers and thieves use it as a time sink, you can either spend the lifetime it takes to find the real mesmer and kill him while in combat with other people or the lifetime it takes to finally stake the thief who keeps vanishing, whom you could kill in time if not for the team of enemies who are of course Zerging a point, and having to fight zergs benefits thieves and mesmers who already have infuriating downed states, warrior rally coming in a distant 3rd place.

We need larger maps with maybe an extra control point, you almost always get caught in a Zerg situation or Zerg vs Zerg situation, in which case skill is out the window. Runners have to be made more useful, everyone for the most part are playing pure dps glass cannons since they are group zerging anyway. You will be hard pressed to find a support spec, every now and then you run into an unkillable guardian spec.

Raid on the capricorn, just get rid of the map.

The underwater combat is my main gripe, I feel like my spec is totally useless underwater, my skills are not reflected at all. There are things that bother me about trying to kill someone in the water, like when you come above water for air you cannot attack , no you have to get back under that water to spam you underwater attacks, also not every class is created equal in the water, some classes avoid it like the plague.

And Yes killing Mesmers is the ultimate skill test of a Guardian, Engineers a close second.

Thieves are not OP I have been able to deal with them with every class I have played so far, however I have seen some, questionable Mesmer builds who take on 3 rogues at a time It is not as simple as the Mesmer answer of AOE since by the time you do AOE if you happen to be AOE heavy they have another batch of dps illusions which you have to kill, you find the real mesmer fine he changes position with his clone back to square one, if the mesmer is Crit heavy like some GS builds things get ugly.

Also this in NOT holy trinity other players should not have to bring a team with them to take out one psudo skilled mesmer with a good spec. It is easier to kill unkillable guardian specs at this point.
