Running away from duels

I got really not nice situation, that even for a “roamer not fair fighter” is just abuse (i like fair duels btw). I was roaming on the Fort Ranik bornderlands and there was thief who wanted to fight with me so badly. As an dd ele vs dagger pistol thief it is quite easy to win with, but cannot kill cause of stealth. After few minutes of duel he invited me to party to talk about class etc. and after that we split up but being still at a party, he brought his burst friend and killed me while typing to him. I know war is war but…. Also the subject with ppl camping on obsidian sanctum jumping puzzle. For me it is just enormous coward act which is happening all the time. This makes me leave the game / wvw.

What is the extra 10 points in fire really getting you that an extra 10 points in say water (so you could get the GM trait for cleanse on regen) wouldn’t also get you + extra damage from boons? Once you get to that point it’s essentially a x/x/x/6/6 again? Just curious, I am very much enjoying celestial/might build on my ele. I still don’t feel as useful as my hambow because I lack the skills to play ele well, but I don’t feel like a liability any more.

@Rudy It’s per boon rather than per stack, you correctly identified that if it was per stack it would be ridiculously OP and every single ele build would have 5 in water as mandatory. I can dream at least

Fun fact that someone pulled it (finally). Warriors and thieves are meh, easy to read. Mesmers are the masters of duels and i would say that if you want to have chance with him, you have to have much condi removeals (even if he’s not condi spec, but immobilise + extra xxxxx condies from staff is hard to counter) without that i was dying alot (with good mesmers i’ve won maybe one on 5 duels). Found that condi spec is not as good vs ele as burst pu (but i always use ether renewal). What’s funny i did even a research on mesmer forum, where they were saying that in duels they’re op (many of them). What is hard vs them is their control ability and because of that it is reaaaaly hard to put good pressure on them (meaybe with thief it’s easier). Ah and one thing – mesmers staff destroys ele.

Guys. With current d/d, d/p stealth meta thef is gonna do 31% less dmg after patch (to get as much as now he’ll need to go 30 in deadly arts). So chill and watch for backstabs for 5k dmg ^^.

I’d prefer if we can control when they use their skills. I’d sure love the on-demand heal and chill AoE field from Water elemental, protection and stun from Earth, swiftness and stun on Air, might and cripple from Fire.

This. I would appriciate if they rework this skill to work like necros flesh golem. Activation of stun, aoe dmg, heal etc. even if nerfed. As it is now this skill is totally random (but it is still underrated in my opinion – stun on air elemental is op).

Im doing that on my ele build. Exacly sacrificing 20 trait points to achieve that. And really it is 8% nerf which is the buff overall with crit dmg reduction (on these THIEVES you are losing 31% crit dmg)… Needeles to say wihners gonna whine. 270 hp per sec (after nerf) to like 130 on ele… Btw armor is strictly sustain stat.

Ele’s only need 10 points in water, and they are perfectly fine without savricifing much (20% CD on Cantripts + Mist Form). I have an Ele that is PvP 65, and I up level her in WvW while still being able to hold my own. God help anyone I run into once I have a focused gear selection and full trait points to play with… Meteor Showers in zergs and Static Field stragglers all day, baby!

10 in water? Oh ok. On staff. Maybe. On standard meta 20 in water is almost mandatory. Even in gvg 30 in water for support and extra heals is just too good. Try to play dd ele with 10 in water (15 is least what I could do). Maybe after patch, but still. But you know I tried to compare passive healing without going into traits/healing power. It is 400 hp/s, twice as much then eles signet. I can see the logic (twice as health – twice regen). Let warriors have scaling with healing power, but at base? Why almost everyone uses it, not other skill (even full zerk wrriors wtf)? Cause it’s broken. Im not the type of wihners who’s saying warriors broken omg nerf (cause mostly I can beat them), but I don’t agree with 2 specs of them, which is mobility and this signet.

I can approve that too. Was playing a few classes, but warrior with this mobility… What I would change would be like with RTL on ele. Double the cooldown when not hit enemy on rush or something (that 16-20 sec is just laughable comparing to rtl with 40 on squishest class). As someone said warriors – master of meele (not masters of fleeing).

As for me i run now a bit offensive version of bunker build, and works really well. I can say that signet of restoration is much overrated, I’m using ether renewal all the time, without cleanse from water (had it but because of trait migration in last balance patch i realised, that i don’t need it). Still running with 15 in water (cause of electric discharge – too much like) though for extra 2k heal. Even without bunkering in 30 water im zerging with dd. Normally I roam, with this build I won quite much 1vs3 (moderate players). I would say – more you play with ele, more you know mechanic, less you need defence (damage pressure is defence itself and ele can be master of it and if i can have blind in offence setup im for it). Frankly i believe the fire trait is extremely fun…

Unfortunately ferocity and rune change will hurt DD ele extra hard…..
The loss of a huge % of dps paired with the long cooldowns means burst becomes weaker…

Buff duration will suffer from rune nerf, while 2H weapons will get a second sigils making the gap smaller.

The issue with the fire trait also is that force elementalist to leave the water line.
That means giving up condition cleanse and forcing ele to slot cleansing fire.
But since cantrip nerf you are already short on utilities:

-armor of earth
-mistform
-arcane shield
-lightning flash (for mobility ).

Are equally needed…..
You also lose cantrip mastery….

There is no way to change ele build diversity without addressing SKILLS rather than traits.

Well, it is true you loss crit damage, but you also gain 6% more stats out of celestial pieces, which isn’t bad at all. Keep in mind that any burst profession is hurt from the ferocity change, while celestial gear is the only one to gain a buff to other attributes to compensate.
The burst damage is being nerfed across the board, not only on elementalists. As you lose burst because of the loss of crit damage (remember that Crit Damage is less valuable compared to raw power anyway), you gain more precision, more power, more dps from condition damage (burning still deals ok damage), more toughness and more vitality.

Also, remember that another buff is the fact that on swap sigils have individual cooldown, that means that you can take both battle and energy sigils, which is another huge buff especially on elementalists.

If you leave the water traitline, you don’t necessarily have to slot cleansing fire. You can go with Ether Renewal as healing skill, which is an amazing condition removal alone.

Also, I’m under the impression that you think that 30 arcana is mandatory. You can drop 10 arcana easily and invest it elsewhere, since you have already lost the healing power from the water traitline.

You guys are forgetting, that in small fights mist form isn’t necessary and cleansing fire is cantrip also, which can now do aoe blind (blinding ashes). With bursts dropping on every build ele can finally leave water traitline (blind in offensive traitline should be in exchange). For example thieves are loosing 31% of dmg on backstab. As for me evasive arcana just grant too much (i trade water so extra heal on evade is nice + blast finisher and blind on burn on evade) + it gives extra burn proc on arcane precision.

dd build focusing on blinding ashes and mightstacking with new version of strengh rune (or boon duration rune if better). Celestial (don’t know how it’ll be buffed in pvp but for now in wvw it serves well). Also dont know it new sigil of inteligence (burn on crits) would be better then leeching.

I’m running full celestial since exotic ^^, but it’s gonna hurt alot with this crit dmg nerf. About new traits, i would like to see 30/10/0/0/30 cantrip dd build focused on blind on burn (burn on crit + zephyr boon, flame barrier + lingering elements) and stacks might on using cantrip. With sigil of battle and sigil of leeching/inteligence with strength runes (or i hope boon duration runes) should make nice synergy. Cleanesing fire would make aoe blind + 3 stacks of might ^^.

Hmmm, to players saying that thief is so op and whatever. My main is dd ele and thieves are easy kill, really (or they will run away). Thief is so easy to read – try the tactic to spin in place not to be hit in a back by backstab and pop shoking aura in right moment, after he stuns himself just make updraft and your fire burst – now he’s dying. Countering classes are – engi and mesmer (pu build – crazy stuff).

What i would say about changes – that blind on burn is quite nice, i could make some builds with that, but what i don’t like is very big nerf to the celestial – useful almost only on ele.

Other thing – nerfing boon duration runes (ele needs to use defensive boons to counter low health and low armor). My build with this got pretty much destroyed.

Next thing – if you want to make class which could be condi spec – ele is not. Why? Because ele has only 2 damaging conditions and need to change attunement to add more condi – it gives the time for conditions to expire or gives a chanse to cleanse it. Same thing with guardians – they will never ever be condi class – too few condies (simmilar thing was with thief, but i’m seeing buff there – that confusion). Compare it to necros who put like 4 condies in one skill or engies with x different conditions on every skill. So to make condi spec on class you should add more condies (damaging most likely). It could be like confusion each time you swap attunement (on trait of course) or torment in earth, ew something like poison in water.

In other hand you are trying to make attunement specific builds – don’t do that. Ele has 4 attunements and should switch them to have maximum effectiness, not like other with the option to swap weapons and focus on one (thats why arcane traitline was so powerful so as fresh air), not stay in one because there he has condies or something like immunity for criticals (don’t make grandmaster traits to be bound with one attunement).

Other thing – why ppl are using water traitline – because ele has worse stats in game and extra heal or condi removal is really nice to have. Overall it is not as bad class in wvw terms, in pvp it was too much nerfed (there base stats are especially important, cause in pve/wvw there are more stats and gap isn’t so big). As for pve – staff is bad (too low dps, support/control isnt too good in this game), in wvw not bad. Focus – only pve. Scepter good in pve, bad in wvw (only on duels), cause of too big survability sacrifice. For dd – it is predictable (fire – burst, air – control, earth – control/dmg, water -heal), but good in almost all situations. It shouldn’t be able to see the attunement buff for the enemy – they can react too fast with that (he’s going to fire – oh he’ll use burning speed, air – aura, autoattack etc.), much easier then for me to see the waeapon, especially toolkit of engi. They could still see the fire/whatever around our hands. Other thing – with this patch arcane abilities are going to be much weaker (crit dmg nerf), so something should be done with them – I would say total remake – cause they’re unbalanced – whith ele you can burst like hell with that (before patch), but you have total 0 defence then (to kill zerk ele is like to take half hp of zerk warrior, or even less).

To sum up ele is my favourite class, most fun to play and quite skill deamanding. Please consider those changes that I pointed and just make more options, not nerfs to existing builds.

About math and celestial. Currently it gives 469 points to all stats and have 61% crit dmg (if we talk about ascened) after patch it is gonna be 497 points to all stats and 33% crit dmg (28% crit dmg loss and +28 points to all stats). As for zerker it is now 71% and after 50%. 21% crit dmg loss. To cover celestial loss it should be (by math side) +450 to one attribute, splitting between 7 it should be +64 to all attributes – 64 ferocity. So suming up (and again splitting between 7 ;p) it should be +55 to all attributes which is around 11,7%. Basically we are losing 5,7% of sats. Of course for majority crit dmg is more valuable then +11,7% to all stats not to mention 6%. As for zerk they are loosing around 12,2% of stats. It’s funny how you compare ele’s signet to warriors as eles also have access to water attunement. That’s two more sources of healing. You can’t compare the two directly as you need to take into account all sources of healing that the class has access to for balance purposes.

But i did compare additional health and armor and dmg which is greater, much greater. Ele is being known as best survability class along with guardians and warrisors are being know for best damaging class along with thieves. You want to have every class specific boon in one class? I don’t think so. If you want true balance then lets remove all classes and make one. You sacrifice nothing to gain that regen and as an ele withut traiting in water attunement i got 1,5k heal every 40 sec. Compere it with 8k base health more and 300 armor more (and try to run full zerk on ele like warriors do). In pvp i just hit my head when playing warrior instead of ele.

Did you see how the new rune of strengh works? +45% might duration. Anet clearly wants us to make boon specific builds, not all boon builds. Elementalist survivability is predicated upon three separate boons: Regeneration, Vigour, and Protection. Swiftness might be included as well if roaming. This matters less in PvE but for WvW it does make a substantial additional nerf to Elementalist survivability.

Yup thats why i pointed it (you forgot about stability). I’m a wvw roamer maining dd ele and theese changes make me cry (not to mention this crit on celestial or that we got 2 sigils, not 4, while you can’t switch weapon with stacking sigil and maintain stacks). If it is going to be like it seems, I’m quitting the game (for this build i paid over 800 gold and about 200 laurels – full ascended).

Thief op omg nerf plz, extra survi rotfl dmg. Why nerf warrior. Guys please look at this patch closely. Thief is loosing 30% of his dmg (because of backstab autocrit) and if you cry about his extra survi, he is sacrificing alot to gain it, not like warrior with one skill. AND every class has a counterclass – it is thief for warrior. Look at ele – their signet was nerfed by like 50% it makes half regen of warrior. In other hand you say it is your only survi skill…. rly. Best stats in game (8k more hp and 300 more armor then ele) and still best regen and mobility in game. 8% nerf…. so bad.

I’ll tell you how anet promoted my hybrid build (dd ele). Firstly I got 35% on crit dmg removed, secondly boon duration mix of runes removed and thirdly on swap sigils and stacking sigils is going to work better on other classes (4 sigils with 4 cooldowns is better then 2). Now I can destroy my celestial set (worth 800 gold) with runes and make totally different build or stop playing.

And whats more: take a warrior with a trait that gives him reduced weaponswap (for about 5 sec) with 4 different on swap sigils he can proc them every 5 sec while ele or engi has to wait 9 sec (cooldown on weapon swap sigil). Switching roles? Now on swap sigil gonna be better on other classes?

But problem is that those avarage players wear full zerk and are poping one hundred blades and winning. And as I said 3 sets are really painfully afflicted – cavallier, assassin and celestial, where on those crit dmg was main source of dmg. Hybryd builds is kinda unplayable after patch. Many ppl told which is a best way to solve the problem with dungeon zerk runs, but it is almost impossible to do with current AI of bosses. As for Anet redoing it is not worthy (cause it’s hard and time consuming).

True, but I can see an overnerf f.e. on my celestial gear which was based on crit dmg, or destroying burst builds in wvw. You know pve is connected strictly with wvw, and find balance there is really hard without trinity rule. To tell truth I play this game only because of wvw, like you said powercreeping is too bad for me.

Really nice post. I was just thinking, why so sudden change and this chaotic nerfs without further investigation. Came up to conclusion that they want to make something fresh even by force, cause in April there is TESO going out with simmilar wvw system (almost the same), with also non trinity rule. Same thing was with WoW when gw2 was coming out. They forced out addition, like in panic on similar date and they decreased price for game itself.

Hmmm you say to consider if it is not as good with change? It is 28 on all stats – worse then 3 divinity runes in exchange of 30% crit dmg. Nope. I made whole set of celestial – it work only if I use special build with boon stacking (with runes change propably I won’t be able to get 45% boon duration from runes). Soooo doublenerf on my ele. 800 gold set, I can now transmute. This set was made for crit dmg… might was in exchange for lack of power. Please just remove celestial from game, my fault I wanted to play hybrid.

With this change, yes only time of doing dungeon will change in terms of pve. Look at the wvw side, where for example take thief vs guardian. After patch thief will be dying on his defence and retaliation. Or take any other build which is about to burst something (scepter ele, gs/rifle warrior, shortbow ranger, shaterring mesmer, axe warrior). With this change duels / small fights are going to be long and more about sustain; burst spec can desappear. On the other hand it can add this diversity in wvw, but i’m not sure if it can be done with a single patch, which is in the middle of tournament.

So many people bad at math and raging without knowing anything.
Ascended armor gives 235 points in their minor stats, now we know that 15 ferocity = 1% crit damage, so 235/15 = 15.6, currently we get 16% crit damage with asc armor.

Ascended trinkets gives in total 268 points as minor bonus, 268/15 = 17.8, currently we can get 20% crit damage.

Ascended weapon gives 128 points in the minor stats, 128/15 = 8.53, currently we get 10%

Resuming:
After the update we can get 235 + 268 + 128 = 631 ferocity = 42% crit damage
Before the update we can get 16 + 20 + 10 = 46% crit damage

That is a difference of 4% crit damage from ascended gear … and you guys are saying it is a “HUGE nerf” ?

Talking about ZERKER stats.. NO DEFENSIVE stats.

This just promotes more condi bunker builds in YES also wvw (think about roaming, 1vs1 situations or even small groups..)

Ok i thought it would be less (like they said around 10%), but it is 21% less critical dmg on full zerker set (not 30%). Still very big impact on the game – clearly not 10% less dmg in auto criting builds (or almost auto) builds. I only hope they nerf condi bunkers too (as they said erlier). Now best set on wvw will be soldier/knight/condi.

Arcane V – Elemental Attunement. Moved to Master tier.
Arcane VI – Renewing Stamina. Moved to Master tier.

Eeeh, with this my boon duration d/d build is compleatly ruined. I know, that perma vigor is quite powerful, but as an ele it is essentional defense – dodge along with protection from elemental attunement (which is nice and I understand why it is in master, but renewing stamina?). I can see same traits like 5 on guardian or mesmer which is MINOR and grants you perma vigor (not to say those classes either have alot of defense or clones/invisibility and gain alot from dodges – clones or heal). If you want to nerf vigor, nerf it properly in all classes, or let it be in adept tier. I hope someone will read this and take it into cosideration.
