S2 From a High-Level Player's View

I can add to that. While I was playing solo or duo with very good player I had winstreaks for 10 games, but when I started to play with not as good players (cause I want to enjoy this game with friends) matchmaking went mad. Lost few games in a row and now when i play solo/duo i can get players like marauder DH with a STAFF, who can do empower while 20% of hp vs marauder rev, or warrior with rifle who puts whole skills in reflect. My friend gets ppl who rushes lord without points, leaving everything unsecured, or ppl who go mindlessly 1vs2 and die. All that in RUBY (idk, they got carried and left wintrain?). Meanwhile we as trio got to fight full esl team.

Now without my friend and tytanic map awerness, I can’t win the game (Or if I’m really lucky I get simmilar players like me, who stuck in elohell matchmaking).

As far as I’ve seen system makes new mmr (I think). I mean on the start we as premade had easy way without any competition (matches like 500-0, 500-10, 9-0 strike), but later on we had harder time and lost 2 matches (2 we won reaaaly close) and we made like 13-2, but idk what would be next, cause we stopped as premade. I went solo q and i got recking team once, other time both teams facerolled.

To sum up – I think that higher your winstreak is, harder opponents are and soloq mmr is independant from premade mmr. Idk about gathering better players in one team and worse players in other, needs some testing, but usually the metter is Legacy map (like 70% of pvp is played there), where little better team can reckt and snowball easely.

Scrappers needs NERF.

-20% damage? Sorry it´s a joke? And we will forced to run condi in pve. Why do you think that there is just few hammer scrappers in pve? The war axe #1 deals more damage than the hole hammer.
Scrapper doesn t have a huge dps it´s just a cycle burst. Learn to avoid him and win.

Seroiusly, while we talk about pvp, you bring argument from pve side? Ridiculus. Maybe avoid slick shoes without stability?

As for HGH and alchemy overall. You take it, everyone does. Defensive only? You consider might stacks? I sometimes have 20+ of them. And I do only consider one build, and it has everything i mentioned (or you didnt read the patch notes). You can have stability whenever you evade. Also 2 stunbreaks.

You know why i consider engi better then rev? Cause he has condicleanse. It is like DD ele was and it is fact, cause he has same tools and playstyle.
I mained ele for few years and knew that he was broken at some point, so I swapped to my thief. Scrapper is not as kingy, cause he has to share space with reaper.

Hmm i like some ideas, especially with heartseeker with 4 ini and blind on CnD. To buff d/d death blossom should be changed for some sort of gap closer (best if with evade frame). Also D/P is the king cause it has interrupts. In hands of skilled player it is almost like a fight in Bloodborne :P.
Sword should also have a better option for using stealth attack like 1s stun instead of daze or something, cause right now it is better to use infil strike or something easier to land instead of stealth attack.
As for the trait i would go for quickness or superspeed instead of alacrity while gaining stealth – it would help nicely with stealth attacks without steal and overall CnD.

Also staff needs some sreious rework – this weapon is braindead and offers no reliable utility, only dmg.

Scrappers needs NERF.

Few points for what i’ve seen in comments:
-The hardest class? Nope.
-No stability, condicleanse, armor? They have planty of that.
-Not stacked on tournaments? Ya’know patch? No bunker mes? No tournaments after?
-Reaper kills it? – you have realiable condicleanse, dmg reduction rev/mes doesn’t.

Now my thoughts: It is new DD ele.
As the classes go in pvp ranking (imo):
1.Reaper
2.Scrapper
3.Rev/druid
4.Thief (only cause he can deal with necro better then rev)
5.Rest.

Okay. If you do sustain dps in fight as the thief or whatsoever, you doing it wrong. If you reset fight, you do it really, really wrong. It means thief can’t deal with a fight and wastes time on that point, can decap, whatever. +1 is meant to be quick, few seconds, enemy down, can’t deal with situation, don’t waste time.

You can also see helseth pre expansion, oneshotting leeto like 12 times waiting on spawn. I know you want that mesmer, you are typical “without pu I can’t do a thing” type of mes.

I don’t know what game are you playing. I think I’m just wasting my time on you. L2P.

Dps thief
Is a sustained damage build, that focuses on resetting fights in order to maintain control, and burn the opponent’s resources (A.K.A. Cooldowns). It also makes good use of position and kiting.
It also hits 4200 on its normal auto attack. Meaning it has every reason to stick to someone, that doesn’t have the cooldowns to kill it after it’s done its initial 9k damage backstab.
Are you seeing the problem here yet? Are you seeing why your point about thief is a little silly?

Oh, and meanwhile, paladin stat amulets are looking pretty popular.

We have 2 classes, other than mesmer, that can teleport around the map extremely quickly to give a +1/chase down someone.

You’ll note that, while mesmer has a good time +1’ing someone. It has a problem chasing/sustaining a fight.
Unlike thief. Who literally resets the fight over and over again until mesmer has no cooldowns to even do anything.

Hmm so everything you say comes to my point that mes needs to have cd’s revamped, not entire kit. Hmmm I think it was main point of my view that you seem to negate idk why. If you mention about doing 18k hits to paladin – noone cares? Numbers are numbers. Thief would make 5k backstab on paladin, so what is the point? Have you ever played as the thief? You know how thief works? It is not sustained dps – it is used for +1, so it is not sustained. Resseting fights? Rly? In pvp? Without shadowstep thief is defenceless, all you need is lockdown and kill.
You are just some guy who can’t deal with thief, so first thing you do is go on forum and type this kind of bullkitten. I mained thief, played as mesmer and main rev, so I know few things about those classes. Both in pvp and wvw. I’m telling everything from pvp perspective, cause in wvw dmg is too high to even consider balance and still you want mesmer who can oneshot everything in game from stealth like right after june patch. Rev has too high dmg (and should be nerfed imho), but has no stealth, can’t oneshot. If you don’t know how mesmer works you can see helseth streams, where he oneshots almost everything from stealth in current state. All mesmer needs is revamp on cd’s

Okay – too much talking about nothing.
I love to play s/d, this buff is somewhat nice, but still d/p is better, cause it got buffed too (lol). What is sad about thief is that anet is too lazy to get other weaponsets adjusted. Staff is one trick pony, idk what they were thinking about while creating/buffing it (hmm it has plenty dmg, give it moar).

Now to the point – when thief even use autoattack (not the bad one)? It is when they can trade dmg, enemy is debilated – blinded, immobile, weakened. Usually it is for 1-2 autos from chain – third is risky, can be explited by enemy. So mostly buffed is double strike and it works, cause thief in pvp is all about shadowshot + auto. For those saying panic strike op with autos – nope it is op with heartseeker, don’t give that argument pls.

For s/d you use auto after infiltrator strike and even there you could use flanking strike instead. Here is where panic strike + autos works.

Staff is joke, I won’t comment that.

Noone told about one situation, where AA really shines regardless of weaponset. It is after well used imparing daggers – with buff for autos, and overall dmg this skill is kittenly OP (comparing to before expansion).

As if thief’s dmg is op now. Nope. I played thief since day1, but still my rev (with crusader ammy) can do TWICE as much dmg in match (precision strike can crit even for 7k), but still I can play it nicely only when necros aren’t around.

To sum up – reason why thief is good is because of lazyness of anet making op kittens everywhere, hardcountering everything, buffing just dmg or whatever instead of utility. Thief counters necros (no chill, no kill), necros counter everything else. If only powercreep would stop, instead of dmg boost my rev recieved condicleanse, it would be best day in gw2 (thief would be viable as a class, not as a whack a necro, or scissor vs paper thing).

Nope you can’t read still. Better access to condicleanse is through traits, buffing useful skills to have condicleanse on them etc…
Secondly, sustain build? Rly? You have to be sustain to have condicleanse? Dps thief, ranger or rev is sustain build? They have condicleanses.
Thirdly you can do 18k hits vs marauder, zerker viper, mender, sinister, sage and so on. So no they don’t have to take zerker. Also every tank ammy was removed from game if you didn’t know.

Lastly you are just trolling ppl making blind statements and wanting to overpower mes to oblivion, cause you cant play it well with caps. Read Helseth thoughts about mes, I think he can point things better then you. Also I’m telling it from pvp perspective cause it is only competetive mode and balance is made around that.

Eh, please read. I talk about dps builds and comparing them, you shold have zerker as the dps uknow (or marauder). If you run paladin ammy you doing something wrong, maybe don’t play mes, it is not a tank anymore (and shouldn’t be). Yes I talk about pvp, not pve and I don’t care about pve changes.

Again reaaaaaaaaad – i talk about buffing cd, so defences would be more often and relaible. You’ve just red first paragraph, haven’t you?

I use staff + invocation + generocity + hoelbrak, still usually not enough against necro. They can really lower revs dmg (it is still too good imho), but give him reliable condicleanse.

Uhhh, when i read some proposals it makes me shiver. If you want to buff mesmer, fine, but you have to realise one thing – mesmer have plenty of dmg, don’t buff it. Oneshoting ppl from stealth like in june is not fun to play and ruins counterplay. Teef op, much stealth, buff pu. You know teef can do aroud 9k burst at MAX, and mes can do around twice that, so no.

Mesmer as the dps needs buff in two areas. First one is simple – condicleanse, just give him better access to it (simmilar for rev, you can nerf dmg on him but give realiable condicleanse). Rest of utilities are powerful (even very) and useful, but there is second buff i would do to them – cd’s.
Other dpses have nice active defence/utility skills on quite short cd comparing to mes.. Reduce cd on some shatter (f3,f4), time warp decoy etc, or give back alacrity, even nerf those utilities but shorten cd (i won’t give details). Best time when i played mes was after nerf on pu, i took illusions and it was a blast – i had condiclear (poor but still) and shorter cd on most useful skills – I didn’t need any protection, super dmg, long stealth bullkitten, just cd and condicleanse.

Here you have competetive mes kit.

Range Dmg is way too high

Hey, I tend to go with the changes, be flexable, but there is a border.
I am the leader of focus party, to be effective as one i needed to go for a range class; more specific revenant. It deals way too much damage, also guardian (less op) and have range advantage – low risk, high reward (druid also has this immobilise on stun). Used to play as the thief, but now i can outdamge them from range and 10x less CD (collocance of ruin vs steal), all aoe and even use revert dmg. It is just way better. I really like revenant as class, but not that op/without skill (Once I did 17k crit without best food/gear on enemy backline, not underlevel; backstab used to make like 12k max?).
After Hot release focus party became braindead, spam 2 to win, no need really to count to burst, stealthstack can kill you (rev can cast 5 sec reveal while using #3 of hammer it has 1200 range and engi has 900 radius on reveal). I don’t even know if there is a focus now, cause im feeling like typical backline. Rev/guard have aoe too.
Please tone down this powercreep before it’s too late.

Renewing Wave bugged

I’ve reported it several times already, but here is December, many bugfixes came, but still renewing wave (revenant’s staff #4 skill) isn’t working properly.
It doesn’t cleanse conditions from you very often (it is like 50% chance to this skill accually remove conditions), which makes it unreliable with so long casttime (not that rev has any reliable cleanse option). Maybe because of this meta shifted to condi revenant, since it doesn’t use staff and have resistance.

Whole topic makes me laugh. Go play condicancers, they are balanced.

On topic someone already told the weaknesses, all but one. UA is usually used from range right? It has 450 range and 3/4 sec casttime (with obvious animation). If within the casttime target goes out of range skill canceles and goes for full cd (dodge has I think 360 range meele is like 150, so you can interrupt, do math).

Rev has 3 sources of bigger dmg – one is UA second is surge of mists (look at the weapon he uses), third is AA with quickness (but usually with quickness they can’t make stunbreak cause of high energy costs). Ah also it helps not to stand in whole dragon breath (or something).

Btw scrapper has simmilar skill to UA with triple leap finisher and huge gapmaker/closer with evade frame.

Can the only condicleanse be fixed?

Ever considered killing everything else thats is not cond, and when facing cond builds rotate between blocks and shield and glinth heal to avoid cond ticks and aplys until you can sword 3 kitten out of people?

Because I run cond builds and most of times that is what successful revs do to kill me.

I run crusader build, doesn’t have as much dps and hp to killl condiuser effectively, but this condicleanse from staff would be enough if it worked. I just want to have bug fixed and no jalis or demon won’t work for me.

Can the only condicleanse be fixed?

I have really hard time against condibuilds, especially when my only condicleanse aren’t working. Can you please fix renewing wave? Against condi teams it is unplayable even with hoelbrak and invocation.

Lol it is one of the best rev skills. To sum up it is about 6k dmg and 5k heal. You just have to use it properly. It works like signet (f.e. malice) but with activation and dps boost.

Even with such commotion and so many ppl wrtiting posts here, we didn’t get fix. I guess they’re focusing on game engine and server issues for now (I haven’t had as much many crashes myself, but see thier point). IMHO the best way would be make one person responsible for this matter, because most buggs are easely fixable (I think; only 2 achis for bolt and it is one interaction with hero point, simmilar bugs on other precs).

Anet please, we are 2 weeks after launch and had only one generic response. At least tell us when you want to solve this problem, cause everyday logging, searching for patchnotes only to be dissapointed is not helping.

Bolt III: Zap

Guess what 3 patches came up the last 2 days and still no fix or announce from Anet about zap collection III and those 2 bugs

I’ve reported it like 11 days ago and wait since then, it was at least 6 patches, only 2 achis block me from zap and i still dont know the reqirements for crafting it, sooooo frustrating. If i knew before i would just buy it from tp, to making big fuzz and race with buying materials about it. Heard that today is the patch but it didn’t happen. In this whole situation the lack of news is most frustrating, not the missing fix. I just don’t know when the patch may come, or even that someone red it (my bug report).

Hoelbrak is IMHO the only choice. Strength are nice until you meet condies and you dont have much cleanse options on rev. With Hoel I can stack to 25 stacks pretty easely, no need for strength rune for that, just good rotation and strength sigil (it is op since it can give you 2 stacks of might instead of one – shared empowerment).

Bolt III: Zap

Two collection items are bugged:
(a) Illuminated Overcharged Quartz (“Use the Luminates Plant in Metric Province to add illumination to a piece of charged quartz”)
(b) Strangely Overcharged Quartz (“Use the Strange Energy Source in Timberline Falls to add some strange energy to a piece of charged quartz”)

When I bring a charged quartz crystal to one of these hero points, I don’t get the option to overcharge a crystal, so I can’t get the collection item.

Yea I thought that it was op too. Now I play as rev and this animation is so slow and glichy with short range. You just have to dodge/go out of range and skill fails (450 range).

Got 93% of bolt 3 for few days now. Only those 2 achis doesn’t work. Trying to patient, but I really would like to know when this issue gonna be fixed. Every patch I’m trying to make those achis, only dissapointment.

I think that even the focus party (WvW) gonna change. Scrapper will fit the place. With perma stealth for party and aoe reveal with very short cd it is must have. Also because of that it will hurt SA builds. Used daredevil with staff and dashes in focus. Less spike, more dps and aoe, better positioning and sustain. No stealth (cause scrapper has one, taking SR, but i cant dodge there, so i’m thinking about change).

In pvp simmilar builds works nice, saw also s/d builds works well. Normal d/p can be eaten tho. Also what mostly surprising is that new heal is really good, I take it over withdraw (really, dashes covers same function).

I think that thief is okay too, but now it makes you not to play stealth. I like the staff build with dash, but I think it’ll become boring to me in the future (2, 5 and dodge spam). For now it is fun, having so good positioning tool and aoe dmg. Revenant seems to have high skillfloor (20 skills and doubleclicking, applying boon is intentional, not just another effect. I think I’ll focus on him.

I’m also using staff thief and it’s refreshing. With dashes thief’s mobile like never before. As ppl say rev is new thief – it’s not, he lacks mobility. Few more balance patches and it’ll become more then viable. Imparing daggers + vault, weakening charge+steal are deadly combos. Impact strike is quite hard to land but used in right time works wonders. Also Cleave of vault is great. New heal with trait is better then withdraw (surprisingly) when you use dash as dodge. My main concern for now is that in game is too much dmg.

Frizz’s energy- I can’t see any issues with this, and it’s working fine when I test it out- it works with both the low half-wall as well as the big rotating wall.

Alright I did it today, but in the other day I walked few times at wall and nothing (maybe it was fixed or something accidentally).

This wasn’t one bug I’ve noticed. Buying recipe/Crafting capiciting bottle, overcharging charged quartz by luminescent plant and strange energy source were bugged yesterday too (there is no option to overcharge quartz).

In third tier zap crafting I encountered 4 achis that I cannot get (and I’m sure I do it right). Those are: Buying recipe/Crafting capiciting bottle, Charging bottle in Aetherblade fractal, overcharging charged quartz by luminescent plant and strange energy source. Quite an ammount. Don’t know if that’s all of them (made 12, 4 bugged, 14 more).

Please fix it, I’m not the pve person and I’ve waited to make legend for so long.

I’m working on bolt (Third tier) and cant get Capacitive bottle achi even while I crafted it and Bottle off Frizz’s energy, even while i walked in the wall 3 times with bottle active.

Don’t use sentinel. On thief you want only zerk/valk setup. Toughness is useless compering to loss of dps. Offence and active defence is your defence. You only want to have as much hp to survive initial burst, so as ppl said 15k (14k is risky but i use oil with +100 vit and 10% ferocity from vitality).

Just 2 words: Nerf it.
I can faceroll everyone in pvp, too much sustain, too many blocks/invuls and damage, just too much. Unrelating Assault is braindead and uncounterable; change it or lower dps.

Glint heal is just op as instacast. I can kill bruisers in seconds, sustaining like an ele, doing damage like thief.

I got quite a few suggestions as well about the staff.

Autoattack: Seems responsive, but lacks something more rewarding on third chain then only vulnerability, or whirl finisher (dd doesnt have combo fields on staff so it is quite useless). Damage is okay.

Weakening charge – Damage is nice like everywhere on staff imo, but still this skill needs little something, more cost but evade frame maybe (or on vault)? It would be more timed skill to damage/evade and reposision not spammable weakness source. REALLY important is that whole skill (3 attacks) is affected by blind, you dont hit with it with bilnd or i am imaginating things

Debilating arc – can’t feel it right (yet), makes obvious combos with charge and vault, but i guess it is okay. Responsive.

Dust strike – it has no application, maybe stomps, but this skill is quite meh. It would be nice if it was pbaoe without damage, but with reveal. Staff DD has really hard time vs stealth classes.

Vault – main source of big damage, but in warriorish style – dont like it. You have to setup it with cc to hit something, same as warrior – thief is not warrior, supposed to be quick and responsive

As for the traits I would still argue about swapping driven fortitude with escapist absolution – this ttrait is the only choice without shadow arts

lightning rod is rly nice on dd cele ele, but i would consider it only for wvw – for more burst and mobility (25% passive move speed) and tempest defence is so nice. Fire/earth are kings in pvp. And yep staff is the way to go.

S/D thief is a solid ele counter, you must be playing terrible thieves. D/P thief is a pretty even match up.

Necro is cake on an ele, I’ve mained ele/mesmer/ranger since before release early beta, I don’t need your lecturing. Ele has such spammable and short cd condi cleanse, a single corrupt boon isn’t really going to ruin you and neither is signet of spite.

Necromancers have horrendous sustain and very long cast times on their heals( read: easy to interrupt), heals which have fairly long cd’s and heal for relatively little of the necromancer’s health pool. They have garbage for spike and unless you’re facetanking wells you should be able to wear them down if you play aggressively.

I see you played on beta, but I guess only then…. S/D thieves are gone after patch (mained s/d thief) and you know what shocking aura is? Especially with lightning rod and tempest defence – thieves kill themselves.

If you have no problem against necros, you fought bad one – after patch minionmancers, signet necros (the 0 sustain?) and terrormancers have all great chcnces with ele. The 0 spike heh, sure but extremally high dps and lockdown.

Also if someone have reaaaaalllyy big problem with winning against an ele with msmer, go condi pu and u can faceroll him to death (but please don’t make pu).

Also somene pointed sigil of cleansing on ele – lol nope (on somewhat experimental signet build maybe).

Mesmer, warrior, and thief are highly effective against ele because all these three classes have strong spike and CC options to keep the ele under pressure. Eles perform best against ranger/necro/guardian because those classes have inferior spike/pressure options.

It is funny to read someone who doesn’t play ele writing such things. Thieves perform well against eles? Wut? They die to aoe and condies before doing something. Warrior sometimes is a problem, but mainly rampage, mesmer is even match i would say (if not pu). But… Performing best against necros – lol eles have hardest time agiainst those, SoS and corrupt boon is pain for ele. Against guardian and ranger i would agree.

As for how to deal with ele – time well your interrupts – it will collapse the attunement rotation and lower pressure from him. Best interrupt his burning speed at beggining (before evade animation). After every interrupt cast damaging skill. Boonstrip as much as you can, especially before burst, make burst after earth (if he use stone heart) or strip protection.

in wvw I use ether renewal – case solved ;p, also air instead of fire for mobility and burst with lightning rod (especially if u have zerk parts there). I know u can break the healing, but in wvw there’s alot of space to cast it. U can cleanse the condies and outsustain him with good rotation. Also i like to run full cele, after patch it is even better (imo), cause u dont have too much vit or something like you used to.

Imo, well timing your dodges requires more skill and therefore should be promoted than relying on passive defense. I would say that 100% endurance regeneration was a bit too high, but nerfing it to 50% was too much.

I agree, the dodge mechanic is skillful mechanic, and judging when to dodge is crucial, especilly now. That’s why I’m saying that energy sigil is so good, too good. Now nearly every spec is running it. Got it on my ele and i don’t see difference from pre-patch. Nerfing vigor could be a good move, but still there’s a unnerfed weakness. Btw in wvw food gives you 40% regen, almost free perma vigor.
As for the s/d thief – it was master of evasion, now ranger have from minor 20% endurance regen (thief has 25% from vigor boost) and simmilar ammount of evades on weapon skills (and have nice vigor uptime too). Acro got passive stunbreak, passive condicleanse and passive movement impending effects reduction. When you hear acrobatics first you think are passive defences…

IMO vigor boon should have 100% endurance regen, but should be harder to get (I’m critting lols moar dodgez).

Oh tripledot guy. You play the same game? I mean gw2? You say s/d thief wan “ultra” imbalanced, but everyone played d/p and now they are still. Now s/d is almost unplayable and u can call it balance (lol). As for the meta, I know you like to play air+fire and energy on every build you play, you dont need to think, just blindlessly take them.

And this ps. I was asking how you feel about changes, not for rage about my opinion and asking me to *adapt, cause I can deal with it.

Hey, I haven’t seen any subject like this (and searching mode in this forum is… none), more like sub parts on thief forum and overall raging about unbalance. But I’m wondering how you feel about this change, cause IMHO I think this changes nothing except few builds which are nerfed/buffed in process.
I don’t like the change on thief, cause loved my s/d build, now it is crippled seriously. On other classes i just take energy and it is like before, which makes energy sigil even more obligatory. Forcing us to take it ruins divercity.

I see that anet wants us to think and time well the dodge, but then why no nerf on sigil and other sources.

Fire traitline give so much dmg now. Also i think that blinding ashes are overrated, i have persisting flames and it gives more (imo). Try this and kill everything with cele and strength runes (often i get 25 stack of might and have permafury with cd reduction on fire skills):
