So the new update is out, and i am very pleased. the tracks are a great way to progress and they encourage tourney play for faster completion. i have a lot of skins to use on alts and my main. Some things are kinda strange like town cloths tonics, but not really impacting to the games enjoy ability. I know that the mist are packed, I think its great that all hot joins are 5v5 now, and the new arena is cool.
now, i would like to hear ideas on how the update is treating others, please be constructive and speak freely about all y’alls experiences.
BE CONSTRUCTIVE!!!!!!!!!
Sky hammer definitely makes skills that grant stability, and knock back very useful, are theses skills not normally used on y’alls build other wise?
I try to run skills that allow me to either break immobilize or go invulnerable to deal with punishment when I’m immobilized. do y’all feel like having defensive skills to combat immobilize stacks is a burden to certain builds?
One of the aspects of this map is the breaks in line of sight, for example the numerous columns and the overhead paths in the central area around the sky hammer portal. The central area allows for the combat engine to really be appreciated. The breaks in line of sight make dodges more meaning full, because a player can effectively dodge into “cover”. Do y’all feel that this is problematic?
Do y’all think the map is bad, or do you just think its not a good map to have in solo que?
This is a good point, I played at least 100 tourny matches before I knew there was a leader board( im thinking more like 300, but i dont know for sure). I think people like me will see the achievements for tpvp and just jump in, I know i must have made at least a few people mad when i did tpvp when i was a noob.
Yes the spectator mode does need work, such as zoom, and perhaps a free cam.
8v8 servers are very useful when you have a party of four or five, and want to play on the same team without the “risk” of tourney play. Couple of my guildies joined an 8v8 after we tried getting on the same team in a 5v5. Worked out pretty good, I usually avoid 8v8 servers but now i kinda understand them better now that i have gone into one with a group of 4.
I like sky hammer, it requires a player to be good with positioning and mobility. Plus its got oodles of omg moments just waiting to happen. If you really wanna have a blast… Take off your armor, go full cc, and troll like you have never trolled before!!!!
aren’t these guys shooting themselves in the foot, I mean every rank they pass is rank up chest they wont get. Like seriously, what is the point of this?
(edited by RusShiro.9241)
its my understanding that some tiers are repeatable.
nah, i saw a huge jump in pvp participation after the update. I am not sure if a lot of those people are doing tourny though.
make some new friends, join a guild.
I have an idea, how about allow players to become “free to engage by anyone”. A toggle or potion or something. This way people that want to fight other players can do so, and prevents griefing. If you wanna fight one on one, don’t turn the “item\toggle” on in heavly populated areas.
Dueling in open world would be kinda cool considering the great locations on the map, perhaps there should be a purchasable item that allows players to duel, like belchers bluff kits. I also think players should suffer armor cost if they are spiked.
This is something I have noticed happening as well in the current match up i’m in. I reckon that it is very reasonable for alliances and team work to occur. I think that it makes for some very unique game play experiences and occurrences. Their are some that say it is not fair, it is indeed quite disheartening to be on the receiving end of to enemy zergs. I do think it is part of the game play though and completely fair. I say this because it is the nature of war for people to do what ever it takes to win. Forming a partnership with your enemy to kill another enemy is just how it happens sometimes. I have watched my enemies fight on more then one occasion waiting for my moment to strike. It works on the small scale, and guilds who pay gold to influence the outcome make it work on the large scale. This is the nature of war. All is fair.
I LOVE THE CHANGES, AND NOTHING ELSE!!!!!!!!
Wow, this is an interesting idea. This idea does sound very fair actually, To earn the right to wield a legendary perhaps people should have to do some pvp. I really don’t care personally, but it sounds fair. I wonder if this is something that will happen in the future. PvP is still a work in progress so i guess this could not be put there in the past, but it does seem fair to require people to achieve in all game modes to get a legendary.
I have gotten three finishers off the gem store for use in pvp and wvwvw(mostly pvp). I exchanged gold for gems, and boom there that is. Before the I only play pvp, so i dont have gold is said….you can earn gold in pvp now. This theory is debunked.
I have come to the conclusion that the complaint is not really about skill or recognition. I believe people are mad they grinded rank, only to have this happen. Playing a game for hours a day is an achievement, but not an in game one. I don’t think it should be either. I am sure all the good players are up there on the leader board, rank 20 or 70. That is where the recognition is. In fact this could be considered justice by some for all the people that sky farmed.
I just realized that people are probably mad about this because they farmed pvp for hours on end to get to 70 or whatever. This is a perfect example of why people should just play and have fun, not grind levels for no good reason. I feel bad for the guys that grinded this, and pretty much wasted their time. lol I have spent alot of time in pvp and I’m rank 49, man some of you guys must have played like 6-8 hours of pvp a day for months. That is what I call dedication. I wonder does any one have the numbers for how much time it actually takes to get to 70 rank? Right off the top of my head, ive played about 3700 pvp games(hot, solo, team). lets say at an average of 10 minutes a game thats 37000 minutes. divided by 60 is 616 hours. Thats 25 days of pvp. If a person played pvp 1 hour a day, it would take over a year and a half just to get to 49. After dedicating this much time to pvp(my god, i need to play this game less)I think i would like some kind of bone, and at least see a dragon finisher in my life.
Oh, and I dont think they left rank in to show ability, the new ladder system coming up will do that
(edited by RusShiro.9241)
right, who cares bout wether these cry babies quit cause aww, your farming was just waisted time.
Rank, was going to be removed. No person in game was going to have rank. Folks on the forums fussed, Rank was not removed. Dragon rank would take years for a person to get, people on the forums complained. What it takes to get dragon rank was brought to a reasonable level.
Oh snap, got awesome titles too. I love you anet. my 3000+ games are being rewarded finally.
The rank thing is just there to give the long time players what they wanted, their rank. Remember rank was going to be removed from the game completely. When the leader boards or tourney thing they have planed for pvp hits, then the prestige for skill will be there. I happen to enjoy the idea of seeing a dragon finisher in my lifetime, and hope that people quit crying bout this before its reversed.
Everyone in the upper mid 50’s and up will become a Dragon!
omg, i think, i just had a gamegasm!!! i reckon, ill instantly be a phonix at current rank 49…. oh god oh god oh god…. the great gear and unlocks and all sorts of…./me passes out
The only way you’ll unlock new gear is if you stop PvP’ing and go play PvE. The rank will have no attachment to gear unlocks in this change…
It was my understanding that there are still rank chest, or no. At anyrate though, pvp is definetlly more rewarding after this than ever. Im firing up the time machine to take me to the 15th as i type.
[/quote]
Ok, I’m back from the future… and it is awesome!!! except apparentlly russia invaded the ukraine and ww3 started, but i digress. GW2 servers are still up and running, and pvp is glorious.
yeah, I’m not overlly concerned with this considering, it will get me to 80 faster. Thing to keep in mind is people max rank in games all the time. I have 3 level 80 toons ( thanks level tomes for glory). perhaps in the furure more ranks will be added, but i dought it. I think most people will not make it to 80 still. it takes a lot of games to get there still. I have over 3000 games and am only rank 49, or 70ish on the 15th.
Everyone in the upper mid 50’s and up will become a Dragon!

Healing sig…..(maniacal laughter) its the heal shouts thats the prob HA HA AH
When I first read this, I thought “yeah, if ya wanna duel go to a custom arena and duel, or an empty server and duel”. Then I thought " wow, it would be nice to duel in some of the great places ingame, like mount malestrom, or the middle of some of the jumping puzzles". In fact at this point I do kinda wonder why not. Perhaps if people had to be friends to duel first, or in the same guild. Call it sparing perhaps. But yeah I think I would enjoy an open world duel or 2 now and again. I think ill go and hit up some wvwvw.
I don’t think the map is bad for solo Que or team Que. I think that people complain about it because they don’t want to have to mind their positioning, and play the terrain. The cannon is very powerful, but it has a long pre-fire tell. I usually leave the area as soon as i see it bout to fire. I wonder if people are complaining about the cannon, because they think they should be able to just take it to the face. The fact that you don’t know its the next map can be a problem, but you have to accept the situation and deal with it accordingly.
Hey, I’m only 88%. I thought that was doing pretty good. lol
Oh yeah man, I leveled 2 toons to 80 with the tomes, and have a third almost there. I hope ANET does keep it around, or some thing similar.
What…y’all ain’t heard?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WNrx2jq184
I guess that’s what I’m not getting. If there were no rewards, i would still play pvp. Good game play, and a shared experience is what I’m used to, and all I really want. Gear and “rewards” are a necessity for pve and wvwvw. levels mean some thing there, as does gear. Pvp is equal footing regardless of level, experience and teamwork matter more. Yes I do trust them, the game is their art, and I expect them to continue to be good artist.
No, there are lots of people that play pvp and love it, I am one. The word on the street is ANET has some new pvp stuff coming thats going to hit us hard, like a freight train!!!!
Thx for your response. I posted to express my frustration with members of the forum community that get on here and just fuss bout the game. I suppose I am being guilty of taking the same attitude except towards the forum posters that are just crying.
The point I wanted to make was that the game should be played for the sake of playing. I get that people are passionate about the game, I am too, but the difference is I am trusting that ANET will balance and add things in an appropriate time frame. Forums are great way to voice opinions, this is my opinion.

OK, I’ve been playing guild wars 2 for a little over a year now. Guild Wars 2 was the first mmo I spent money on. I bought the game on my brothers recommendation, because we live in different cities the game allows us to do something together miles apart. I fell in love with the game almost immediately, but really came to appreciate it more when I discovered pvp. In the year that I have played this game I have learned a lot about “online society”.
People of the forums….You are the minority, most players never visit the forums….ever….like seriously, never, ever. You don’t like something, great make a post, be constructive. ANET actually gets on here and reads this stuff. A lot of other companies don’t respond to or integrate player feed back. Be thankful they do, cause they really don’t have to, and further more their jobs would probably be easier for them if they didn’t. So show some gratitude before ya’ll start ranting bout kitten this, kitten that, and kitten anet.
I play this game to have fun with my bro, and the people I meet along the way, I have enjoyed discovering places and interesting things through out Tyria, WvWvW is a spectacle not found in any action game I’ve ever heard of. Yes this is an action game. PvP is an experience with highs and lows. There are beautiful moments where you conquer, and there are those, omg bursted into the ground by a Mesmer thief combo out of stealth why me moments to. That is the way video games are. Games are supposed to challenge, frustrate, and force you to adapt. I remember (with fondness) the first time I was “jet rammed” in another game. I remember the moment I learned how to “aim down my sights” (and there by win more) in another. I will never forget the first time I was minding my own buisness in WvWvW (first time there, had no idea what it was about, but was mining a node) and got steam rolled by an enemy zerg. One of the most memorable omg, wtf moments I have ever had in a game. I was not upset, I laughed and re spawned and explored and died again and again and again. PvP has treated me the same way. I love it, it is challenging, fun, and exciting.
I notice that alot of statements in the pvp forums are judgmental, insulting, and entitlement orientated.
The game developers don’t owe us kitten, they do their job and will continue to do their job whether you or I play or not. Most players don’t go to the forums…like ever…no seriously, my bro (who plays more pc games then I, and introduced me to this one) has never come here. Most every person I talk to in game don’t come to the forums.
This is my rant, and I am posting to get this off my chest. The makers of this great game have my money already. It was 60 bucks well spent, I have gotten my monies worth 10 times over already. The greatest in game reward I have gotten, is not a legendary (I think I actually salvaged a precursor when I first started playing cause I didn’t know what it was). The greatest rewards I have gotten, are memories and moments. Glory, gold, and gems can’t buy that. No hacker can get my account and take that from me. The memories are mine and shared with others irregardless of the next patch, update, or whatever. A shared experience is what I bought when I bought this game. ANET delivered, and continues to deliver (that banner bug has kittened me off pretty bad though). ANET knows what their doing, I trust them, they are making a great game better and better.
So please, just play the game, and have fun.

I’d like to bring up one problem that always arises when we talk about these kinds of features. How would these systems work across different game modes? Either the functionality has to be generic enough for multiple game modes, or have specifics for each map type (which can be harder to learn).
1) Adjustable commander tags/pvp player icon(guild/earned/diff colors).
2) Size of tag=size of squad/party.adjustable map pings/audio for squad/party function.
3) Basic audio phrases; “Attack”, “Defend”, “Hold this position”.
4) Place ables like banners, turrets(when placed but disappears when moved) can be toggled to show on the map for sqaud/party.
5) New skill that gives all Toons a choice of “placable skills”.
6) Once a “placable skill” is picked by a Toon, it becomes bound, and the unselected skills cant be picked by that toon.
7) Perhaps the skill could be re-selected at cost.
8) Game type specific counsumable/infinite use item (earned by achievement/purchase?).
9) placeable item on the map, usable in your zone, anywhere on the map.

Allie is AWESOME!!!!
I find all of the new mechanics in the edge of the mist very refreshing. And genuinely feel all of them should be carried over into wvwvw, The standard maps could use some fresh Mechanics. Although Changing the landscape to drastically may be frowned upon, but people(me) like new stuff.
I say port all the new concepts in edge of the mist over.
I have used all my glory boosters except maybe 3 or 4, I think the current reward additions(gold) is awesome, plus yall threw in the ability to rank alts(leveled 2 alts to 80 thx). Thanks for making the changes, and I look forward to the new stuff coming.

I am all ways looking forward to the next update. I have gotten spoiled by the fact that this company updates so frequently. Great job anet, now I have to languish in anticipation week after week. Love yall lol
I have been seeing these “warrior op” post all over spvp. I used to see “warrior up” all over the spvp forums. I have been playing GS/LB since Summer of this year, since I started pvp. As I improved as a player, the traits, runes, and sigils was all that i changed. When i started pvp i would use all signets, as time went by i began replacing them with more active skills, and now only use the elite signet(short cool down for lysa rune). I don’t use healing signet, but opt for healing surge. The adrenalin gained and ability to keep longbow burst out is critical for me to gain extra def/off( bull rush through fire field gives flame armor). Arcing arrow grants might to team mates and me if they are around. I use GS, for mobility and pressure/damage. I am comfortable with my build, and my skills. I STILL LOSE! Certain Mesmer, Necro, Ranger, Thief builds give me terrible trouble. If I miss, or am interrupted in my attack rotation, I have to turn tail and run. Other warriors don’t usually give me a hard time. Ham-bow warriors are particularity easy for me though. I sacrifice small things in my build so i can have stability, an extra pin, and a knock down. If you don’t have stability, and you see a warrior with a hammer, why would you even think you have a chance. Sure you can kite, but if he is practiced at all, he will land a stun at some point. When i see warriors pull hammers out, I pop stability. A lot of players will be so into the fight they will fail to notice the buff, and then eat one hundred blades for trying to stun. Counter play, plain and simple.
long bow has a great blind, when stability is on cool down, good timing with blind can stop the first stun allowing you a chance to dodge anything else behind it. My build is not meta, i am an average player, but i have taken my losses, and learned my mistakes. I know warrior so Warriors are easier for me to deal with. When i see a necro, or mez, I take caution because i know i may not be able to win. I try and if things go south i make my escape. Just common sense people. If the build you are using doesn’t work for certain situations, its not the other guys fault. its your fault for not knowing when to fight, and when to run. I am posting this to show how I deal with cc characters, and it works for me, If you don’t have a method of dealing with cc on your build, don’t fight cc. As far as healing signet goes, If you don’t dish out enough damage, in your attack rotation, call for help, rotate out with someone who can. Everyone wants every build to do every thing on every profession. That’s not balance, that’s boring game play. I don’t want to watch a basketball game with five centers on both teams, do you? Perhaps You would like to see a football game with nothing but linemen playing. I kitten sure don’t. Play the game, enjoy the game, and quit thinking that “your” build is supposed to handle each and every single possible build/situation out there. Oh… get def abilities if your getting cc combo-ed into oblivion. Like really, who would have a build with no def.
(edited by RusShiro.9241)
Wow. people ask for more already.
Real PvP player play for good fight, challenge and excitement not for gold.
thank you sir, I agree. When I was a kid, the only reward was a high score and a good time. When i was a kid the internet didn’t exist either so….. But really people, its almost like people want to get paid cash to play this. Want more gold, get a job, go buy a gem card, and trade for gold! Other wise enjoy the game, have fun, or go home to mommy.
(edited by RusShiro.9241)
Perhaps certain items can be only accessed via pvp meta achievements. Perhaps a player would unlock “items” for having 100 team que wins, 150 solo que wins, and 1000 total top score earned. This would be a great way to please allot of veteran pvp players, who have already acquired wins, and set goals for new pvp players.
(edited by RusShiro.9241)
I wanna know if you wanna play a few games.
come on people really, the devs are being as transparent as possible. Please be kind. I am disappointed that i wont be able to level to get the dragon finisher(although it would probably take me years lol). It is great that changes are coming, and i am excited that i can do something with my excessive amount of glory, and like 100 tourny chest. Seasons and ladders sounds like the right direction, wvw season has indeed been quite epic. Guild Wars 2 is a great game, and will please us fully in time.
I think, mini map identification seems to be the biggest request. Different colors on tags, or perhaps the currently represented guild emblem should display. In time perhaps y’ll can add other stuff to it.
