[SALT]Natchniony – Necromancer, EU.

If Gaurd didn’t get Dragonhuntah, I would aim for similar theme, but more mercenary-like.
Pistols, one-handers, quicker, more fluid combat. Some type of engaging fighting, with playstyle introducing maybe some kind of dynamic, rewarding blocking/initiative attacking, building momentum on proper blocks/skills into more and more powerful sequences? Combo-like. And maybe some alternative to Fast hands trait?
I’d certainly like to see quicker, slightly more acrobatic Warrior building momentum and powerful sequence combinations via good usage of defenses and with active, rewarding blocking.
Yeah, really not worth a trait, but could be a nice upgrade to the weapon.
Especially since marks tracking your target would just be weird :/
Like playing FPS on a console.
Some fun facts Helseth forgot to mention:
I dueled him when I just got to EU, meaning I wasn’t used to the skill lag like I am now. I was also much worse then I am now.
I dueled him at mine, where I have NEVER dueled in my entire time of playing. If he beat me at beach(where I duel 99% of the time), I would have respected that and said fair game(I even told him I have never fought there and would much prefer beach). Now that he has insulted me, I will ask for a duel at beach this week if possible.
He also left the part out where I played shatter and went even
If you finally appear at normal hour, we might get last practice before changes hit
If duel was a mode necro would be the least performing because they start with 0 LF,necro is good 1v1…if you use LF as second HP you will die with zero and respawn with zero…unless of course you want to die with a lot of LF and be better next time
. DS is not an active defense mechanic of course if it’s balanced for 5v5 it*can* become OP in 1v1 remember the scenarios above but then why did they chose it and made other sustain sources weak??
This may be 2 years but they have no credibility about this “DS is strroong and skillful mechanic”. Anet plz make a PvP 101 about necro so we can L2P!!
@Darksteel The devs love shoutbow let’s see if they can manage to bring back the other specs in the competition.
No man, necro wanting to start with LF because they would be ganged by 5 people fast,
it’s not the issue in 1v1.
in fact, my 0 hour necro can kill any warrior that is not top level in a dual with 0 LF
the only thing that really can kill a necro in 1v1 is mesmer or power ranger and thiefin fact warrior is the least performing class in 1v1s, it only works on point, theres no point? = not working. unless your opponent is super noob.
You know, using a Lich in a duel isn’t exactly fair.
Nice necro thread. Pun intended.
Sooo, who mastered their Death Shroud yet, boys?
I believe it’s higher concept than even Jon imagined
.

Rule of the thumb is, if they want the name to be scary, they just have to translate it to German.
And death shroud is same reason we will always be forced to play with staff in PVP, no other weapon lets you generate life force before engaging.
How do you do this? I thought the staff attacks had to hit something to give life force.
Soul Marks trait.
Or waste a Flesh Wurm.
- Time Marches On – You move 25% faster. The duration of incoming movement-impairing conditions is reduced by 25%. (Cripple. Chilled, Immobilize)
Adept
- Delayed Reactions – Interrupting a foe slows them. (3s of Slow)
Master
- Danger Time – Gain additional critical hit chance against slowed enemies. (30%)
Grandmaster
- Lost Time – Every 3rd critical hit will slow your target. (2s of Slow)
What the hell, ANet?
I mean, Greatsword perma slow, perma bonus 30% crit chance without fury and interrupts giving slow as well? And enchanced Dogged March and Traveler runes as a MINOR?
How am I supposed to fight this?
Comparing traits of Dragonhunter and Chronomancer…. The gap is so incredible that…aa..eh…
(edited by Rym.1469)
Bob would have been fantastic. I bet the rest got rejected because they wouldn’t apply well to female necros.
Bo(o)bies.
Yea guys, we should stop being so childish. Constructive discussion, I say.
Jk. Colinmancer.

Maybe the teasers are misinformation; did you ever think of that?
What if GS is the new weapon but will combine traits with dagger in Blood Magic.
What if, instead, Necromancer got kits to mix up potions?
That thing behind the Asura could be a spectral kit.
The Witcher 3: Wild DragonHunt specialization.
It’s not gonna be shouts… RIP this thread
the new picture is definitely implying shouts
Victory!
Banshee is a female fairy, anyway. That specialization would require a total makeover for some.
With a GS and against plant monsters, how about Vegan. Sorry Sylvari
Our minor Gluttony will be renamed to Gluten-free.
ZombieDragonxxx96
Shouts because team support is what we lack or spirits because of how she infused her sword with her dead sister.
Would be good team support as a spirit then when its active is used we Infuse it into outer weapon and get an effect for a while.
Everyone will get a dead sister to infuse in our Greatsword.
3. Clock Blocker
I see what you did there.
The Dragonpoker.
Because poke my dragon, babe.
Death Hunter.
Would be pretty accurate for PvP.
The dragonhunter art teaser had dragon gauntlets in it. So either those gauntlets or the hood are our specialization armor pieces. Can probably speculate a little off of that.
I believe it’s the sword.
But kitten , I wish art had Charr in it. Would look 100% better. And we can’t see anything bout ears and greatsword.
Abaddon Greatsword.
And they picked a rat for Necromancer. Again. Where are the Charr?
Confusing to new players. Better slap 15% more Death Shroud and call it a day.
No, but seriously, creative idea. Only things are:
1. What do you mean by “no outside help” for banished targets? No boon sharing or out-heals?
2. We would need to add way more PvP modes and make conquest very optional. DS denying point capping would leave Necro absolutely defenseless and useless for point holding/capping. We could assist at best.
3. It’s…eh, it’s creative and I give you that, but what it can do is basically deny whole pressure. If Warrior activates Rampage, Necro Lich or Thief/Mesmer want to burst you down, you hop into DS and deny them 100%. With outsource healing, it would be walking nightmare.
4. Doesn’t really utilize much of Life Force potential as a resource. And I’m a big fan of using that, or health.
If we’re on shouting, it could get more interesting, less obvious name, too. Like Guardian.
Banshee is cliche.
Let’s call it Sharapova spec.
I feel the need to plead with Anet NOT to add melee staves into the game. Ever.
The staves we have right now are basically decorative 2 handed foci/scepters and are simply not designed realistically to be used in melee combat.
First and foremost, look up the Bo staff. That is a real combat staff, a straight stick. That is all a martial staff should ever be. At the very most it may have metal bits on the end, but otherwise it MUST be a balanced and boring and otherwise plain as plain can be, long rod.
Adding ANYTHING more to said rod in melee combat removes all reason to keep calling it a martial staff. That extra anything, wherever and whatever it may be, instantly changes how the weapon must be wielded. And thus, polearms.
There are examples of casters in other games using polearms in place of staves, characters with magical affinity using spears/javelins and other weapons in conjunction with magic, and now lately, they just announced the Guardians will have a magical attack that uses a spear as its projectile animation.
Adding polearms eventually will solve the issue of our current staff selection being overwhelmingly too ornamental and imbalanced to make working melee weapons, and will add a weapon type that easily crosses borders between magic and non-magic users.
Adding melee moves onto staves now, however, would have Anet adding everything they need for a polearm weapon type into their game now, and poorly jury rigged to a selection of weapon skins that don’t fit the bill properly.
So I plead: Don’t make the melee staff mistake now, it will be irreversible. Wait for polearms and do it right.
I believe it’s already set, but I have to agree.
Things like Bimbo Kasmeer staff will make it look ridiculous.
Although I’d like to see The Crossing in action. Striking foe with a lamp for bonus damage like weird morgenstern.
Did we master Deathshroud yet?
Give us two more years.
At least we know that even if players don’t, Devs do fear us. That’s something!
As long as they don’t use “Banshee” name, I’m okay with anything they show us.
Although I’d prefer ritualist-type spec.
I believe that because Revenant hasn’t got weapon swap and not nearly as much skills as Ele or Celengi, it’s completly justified to have as many weapons as, for example, warrior.
One thing I will add to your lists is Greatsword. Not because it makes sense, but because soon everyone will have a greatsword.
Boobs and Greatswords sell in MMOs.
I agree that Death Shroud is probably best design, soon Revenant may be competitor.
However, by design I mean possible plays. If ArenaNet tried, they could make wonders with both Life Force and Death Shroud.
Atm, it’s an unfinished project that has been in beta for couple years.
I’ll point out that Elementalist also has interesting mechanic, yet… I feel that each element should be more distinct and feel more unique. I like the idea that you decide when to use each element and it’s accompanied with a cooldown. But I don’t like scrollling through elements just for boons, waiting for example, water to come of cooldown.
Worst designs?
I would say Engineer. Not because it’s not fun. It is. But Engineer profession mechanics are possibly biggest idea fail for ArenaNet. It was supposed to be an MMO with restricted numbers of skills avalible at once. Yet Engineer is just opposite of that idea. And they’re even giving away more skills! Now, it will be even 40 skills at once! Great, perfectly fits this MMO. Because of that, single skill doesn’t matter much. Oh, you missed X? No prob, swap kits and use 39 other skills.
Aand, yes, Thief. I like the idea of initiative. Always been a fan of Energy-like mechanics. But when we copied it from other MMOs, we forgot that Energy is only a part of mechanic. In WoW there were combo points, in GW1 there were sequences. Thief has none of that. He may as well use most powerful attacks over and over. Doesn’t require set up. Initiative regenerates the same, you fighting or running. It’s not as big issue in conquest, because you have to stay in that combat. What happened to idea of attack sequences? Why initiative doesn’t promote active combat, but more resetting?
But outside of conquest? Steal, hit hit, run, reset. Oh, Steal mechanic has also gone out of control. I don’t even mention stolen items, some underwhelming as hell (Engi one), others overpowered as hell (Ecto? AoE Fear? Axe from Warrior when compared to Warrior skill?). But outside of conquest, Thieves sometimes literally engage only for Steal and couple hits, then reset. I won’t even touch on things like telegraphs, anti-stealth, anti-reset or being partly immune to Chills or interrupts.
(edited by Rym.1469)
laughable 2h greatsword wielding for human females (pulling it after the character like a plow in the field).
That’s how you usually actually wield a 2h sword, though…
Not really. From this position you can only attack and this attack will be slow and predictable. You can’t defend yourself. As a bonus, if you hold it so low, you may trip and fall.
That is interesting.
To be honest, most of my characters are both male and charr. I found that even if I make a female character (especially human or norn, charr female doesn’t count in that really) I can play it only for so long. Only exceptions are my norn ranger (name and gender succession from 1st WoW character) and sylvari ranger (created to be the closest to Hearthstone Warsong Commander graphic).
I highly dislike anime-zated characters in games, so my only other female is a bank and name saver
.
I think the factor is voiceacting (hence why I can’t play human male, too), strange animations and laughable 2h greatsword wielding for human females (pulling it after the character like a plow in the field).
Not a fan of dressing up female characters in underboob, butts and such either. Why should I get excited about pixels while I can have it in real life?
I have to agree with Lily on one thing.
Spirits can be far more interesting and advanced mechanic. Look at all various spirit skills Ritualist had. While you simply can’t make shouts as interesting. They’re all fire and forget.
We all have Ranger’s spirits stuck in minds. Stupid AI, dying and dying.
Currently, there are two major problems with such summons:
1. Cleave&AoE
2. Mobility
Problem #1 has been a glaring issue in this game for a while now. Skills are often made in a way that technically they aren’t AoE, but they are. Called cleave.
About a year ago, I posted lenghty post about this issue on Ranger forums.
Thing is, we can’t make summons resist flat % of AoE and Cleave or totally exlude it, it isn’t ideal. Main factor is PvE where such summon, immune to AoE for example, could kill a boss who does only AoE.
My suggested fix is targeting for AI. The game already relies primarly on having set target.
If nothing was tab-targeting your AI, let’s say spirit, it would have some good resistance to both flat damage and conditions.
But once something sould tab-target your spirit, it would lose all that resistance with possibly a debuff for the duration of being targeted.
With that, we could tone down massive health or other stat defense from AI. If you would like to destroy one, let’s say, spirit, you could target it and since it would have no bonus resistance and less defensive stats now, destroy more easily. Oh, and all AI could be excluded from AoE limit.
The one problem I can think of is “Structure encounters” like Shatterer. But since they have a timer and AI do way less damage than players overall, chances that AI alone would kill strucuture bosses in time is really low.
2. Mobility:
a)make them mobile
b)allow us to reposition them
c)make them short cooldown
d)make them kinda like banners, but with more mechanics possibly
Vast majority of those posts aren’t aimed at you and are not adressed to you, at all. Why would they? You can’t change anything.
They’re adressed to Developers of the game, in a hope that once a year, they will visit our forum and read couple things. We know they do, we’re getting the Revenant.
I don’t really like ANet’s idea that every profession should have utility types shared across other professions.
While I kinda get it that maybe they want to make more utility specific runes, it will really, really put a break on creativity and possibilities.
I’d much rather see more unique utility types.
Considering they’ve made ranger spirit’s immobile with the new trait system, is there a possibility that the Necromancer could gain spirits based on Belinda being in Majory’s great sword? The spirits could be similar to a Ritualists…
I would like this, actually. If they made those summon resistant to AoE.
Way better than shouts for me.
All boons should be shorter, but have more impact I think…
There are no man Banshee
After we’ve cleared that,
Ritualist spec is most likely to me.are you impinging on his manliness?
http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/original/11119/111198274/4246417-banshee_costume.jpg
seriously though, you guys are putting way more thought into names than they might. I doubt it will be banshee, but not because its illogical
Oh no! He was very iconic in Pulp Fiction basement scene!
Conjured other professions.
Summon D/D Ele, Summon Shoutbow, Summon D/P Thief, Summon Celengineer, Summon Meditardian.
There are no man Banshee
After we’ve cleared that,
Ritualist spec is most likely to me.
Game already has wraiths, they are risen.
@Rym that’s irish folklore. Tell that to marvel. As far as I know there is no Ireland in Tyria.
Ginger in latex suit? I know that Pulp Fiction had similar thing.
But I doubt ANet would.
I think from what the guards were given, its quite obvious what the necros will get.
guards lacked range, condi build and mobility
guards given LB (range), condi build (traps), some extra mobilitynecros lack support, mobility, and shroud mechanic enhancement
necros will be given shouts (support), greatsword (mobility) and some new way to use lifeforce/deathshroudand ranger druids will get staff marks to compete with necros
and mesmers given wells to compete with necros for a spot in WvWin short we are getting partitioned off bit by bit to other classes so much so that other classes can all perform a part of what we do and we lose our identity
So Necromancer will get absolutely everything in specialization if it’s meant to fill up the leaks in profession.
Sounds overpowered. I like their way.
I wanted to copy this shiny gem from Gaurd forum to this place. Thought it may interest you.
A couple notes on Dragonhunter. We went with this name because we felt it was evocative of the medieval witch hunters. Guardians consider themselves protectors of the innocent. Followers of their faith be it in honor, valor, etc. The origin of the dragonhunter is a more subtle nuanced version of this. Guardians fight for justice and the dragonhunter faction believes justice is the eradication of dragons and their minions. I understand this is a lot more high concept than Mesmer but at the end of the day we felt like we wanted to try and push a more mature theme here. I hope this helps explain our thinking. We had other generic names in mind but felt like it was important to have a mix of spec names that are generic fantasy, more Tyrian fantasy, and more high concept. This one falls more in the third category.
Thanks,
Jon
Medieval witch hunters. More mature theme. Went with “Dragonhunter”.
Now we know why there wasn’t much of a mature content over 3 years. There has been! But we just didn’t know it.
I want a duck trap to match my witch hunter, too.
(edited by Rym.1469)
Yawn…
How many times do I have to repeat…
There are no Banshee men
Banshee is a white dressed female ghost, which is bound to particular family/house and either her lament predicts the death of family member or seeing her predicts yours. Irish mythology.
Closest would be slavic “Bies”. More of a “humanized” evil, but can send death when seen as big rooster squeaking three times at night.
But I very, very much doubt that American ArenaNet would’ve ever heard about this one.
(edited by Rym.1469)
At least their reading the Forums lol! Im sure a lot of us remember when there was 0 red posts. Hopefully one of them accidentally clicks on the Necro sub forums while reading the others. XD
Ours is in between Mesmer and Ranger.
I wouldn’t count on it.

Then just call them Inquisitors.
EDIT: I just saw it. “(…)push a more mature theme(…)”. With a “Dragonhunter”? Wait, wait. “Mature” in this game? You mean, anime hairstyles, unicorns, shiny heroes and bad dragons? How can you achieve that?
I thought that after GW1 and designing Charr for a release and failing in Tower of Nightmares with achieving it you trashed this concept and I accepted that. Now you want to bring it back?
And, god forbid, pass PEGI 6+?
That’s probably the most interesting thing I heard from ArenaNet in 3 years… Pushing for mature theme…oh boy
(edited by Rym.1469)
We’re not really the only ones…
Thieves could get some shouts if their new spec isn’t centred around stealth anymore.
Rangers,very likely.
Revenant spec?
I don’t want any boring shouts for a Necromancer, nono.
You necros make me laugh. It could be worse: you could play ele.
I’ll give you Dark Armor, you gimme Renewing Stamina. Fair trades?
If after the Necro presentation we’re still being butchered, I would happily participate in or help to co-ordinate a massive Necro protest. Go somewhere public like LA and riot like crazy, tonic’s, kites, kegs, you name it.
And women. A’la de Sade. That would get their attention :P.
I don’t know if many women play Necromancer though. I know only a few, way more play Gaurds.
Yeah, hate to tell you all this but +2 years ago the Necros active on this forum all said the same things no change.
We sadly know, because most of us have been here kittening that long, and the ones who aren’t still here either quit or were banned.
Yeah, Bhawb and I know, we were some of those Necros 2+ years ago. Still beating our heads on the keyboard. Some might call it a curse… Hehe. :P
Joining up the glorious combatant group

Praise the CD Projekt that we will all have some fun this May and forget about Necro in GW2.
It got me thinking, I would like to play MMO from CD Projekt RED.
BowBow, the most amusing specialization out there.
Moon Moon, the bestest meta trap&longbow Guardian.
Or Faceguardian?
Dragonhunter, the new PvE Meta Moon Moon.
“Oh kitten guys, who brought a Dragonhuntard along?”
Judging so far from the idea that those specs gives tools for certain roles that the profession previously lacked in, like range for gaurds and support for rangers…
Our Specialization is the Revenant.
