I guess turning paids into a slot machine can’t even get people to queue.
Well, when the slot machine isn’t even working I’d guess so yeah.
Was kind of a lame move anyways, chance should never decide anything in a game IMO.
tPvP gets attention proportional to participation.
I disagree, it isn’t that lack of participation is causing Anet to focus less resources to PvP, it’s that less focused Arena resources from launch have led to lack of participation.
Examples would include the time taken to bug fix pvp issues to things like new content for PvPers and the free transfer mechanism (which was kept in place for pve reasons but had a huge detrimental effect on WvW)
Have to agree with this. ArenaNet only have themselves to blame for the decrease in the PvP communities size. And they are gonna need to do a ton more than that last patch to get back on track.
This quote is picked from the news and announcement page:
“We have a team looking into disconnection problems that prevented some people from receiving their event rewards.
We will implement a solution so that people who participated will get their rewards, but this takes work on our end, so it will not happen today.
Keep an eye on our forums and social media channels, we will let you know once we have the solution in place.
Thank you, and we apologize that you were unable to claim your rewards.” From Martin Kerstein, head of global communication.
I love how they post a reply about a PvE “problem” hours after it happening, promising a imminent fix for the “poor sods” that was on the receiving ends.
But I have yet to see a similar post about any of our problems on the PvP forums. For example, after three days of huge lags (read unplayable) we still have yet to hear a single reply about it.
I would even have been satisfied with a “Sorry for the inconvenience but you will have to suffer through it until the event is finished”. Then they would at least acknowledge there being a problem.
firstly its thieves not thiefs
secondly, thieves now dropped from tpvp meta.
Pistolwhip was never OP it didn’t warrant a nerf.
Cluster Bomb was the only way for a thief to participate in a team fight since he dies instantly from aoe
Nerf to cloak and dagger ruined all balanced and x/d builds
This!!.. Or not so much this
thank you for fixing da lag <3
Fixing da lag?
They didn’t fix nothing, it was the PvE event that ruined PvP that ended.
So, thanks for making your PvE events rather short (“just” over the weekend") making it so that we don’t have to suffer too long, might be a better reply
what exactly is bad about that? it is not here for the most pro of pros to grind, it is here for most casual of casuals to get into pvp.
This, and the reward aren’t really..major in any way! It is okay, considering that it’s just a achievement and you can get it in one evening. But I do agree that it is a bit disappointing. Granted the PvE monthly isn’t really hard to get either..
The achievements are a nice addition, but they won’t change much!
Bottom line, give us our core elements
They only have 1 month left, or they will break their second promise. And I doubt a lot of players can take that.
what was the second promise? i probably missed that one? well.. i guess the first is “when is ready” ??
The “second promise” would be that they’ve said they will be having the e-sports elements of the game out by the end of the year.
I feel that if GW2 was to implement something similar, even if it turns out to be a form of ELO ( GLIKO was mentioned before which is better to be better then ELO) then it will defintly help the player base as a whole rather then just the high/top tier players.
I agree that they badly need to implement a MM system, and it is kind of astonishing that they released the game without it…
But I just wanted to correct you, because the lack of MM system punishes the top/high end players as well, probably even more than the usual casuals. Because they play a lot and wants to meet equals (how else to improve?) but over and over again meet players way under their skill.
Bottom line, give us our core elements They only have 1 month left, or they will break their second promise. And I doubt a lot of players can take that.
wel.. we go out of tickets faster then ever then..
therefore paid queues will be nice and long..
Yeah, I kind of disagree with the 4 ticket reward for third-fourth placement being removed. Before it was all like “get to round 2 and you have just lost 1 ticket, and get to round 3 and you have gained a few tickets by the gem rewards”.
But I guess they want to milk PvP as much as they can before they kill it.
If I am wrong ArenaNet, then please let me know. And not by just giving me a infraction warning..
After your last kitten screw up with the PvE event ruining PvP over the weekend you kinda does owe us some kind of a excuse and proof that you actually care about your PvP community.
P.S. Want to go out with saying that I do think that most of the fixes you implemented in last patch was nice, and some of the changes was as well. But to be honest, I expected so incredibly much more. How do you plan to bring out all the e-sports elements to the game before the end of the year? Or will that just be another promise broken? D.S.
After 3 nerfs some ppl still have the guts to complain about one build ? Any class/build can be countered do we really need the l2p strat again ?
Did you read the last “nerf”? They nerfed the completely wrong abilities. The thiefs “go to specc” is still up and running almost completely unchanged.
What we had before was a state where the glass cannons were strong and the bunkers were strong as well. Now we are in a state where the glass cannons can reign supreme because the bunkers just isn’t strong enough to withstand them as well.
Granted, a lot of paid teams are going more towards the “team fighting” builds with necromancers/engineers/mesmers. But it does not change the state of glass cannons.
Gonna second this.
A few placements (from second till fourth) last evening, but still not a single win in my team. Statistically at least one or a few in my team should have won something some time. Even with this little of testing I’m gonna call this mechanism broken.
Not heard of anyone else winning anything either, and I should have considering the “1 out of 4 chance” talk. But to be honest, I can’t bother to care much. If they aren’t working on vital parts of PvP why would they work on the less vital ones?
They even goes “Guys, we need more juice for our PvE events, let’s just take it from the PvP servers..Who cares that they can’t play over the weekend?”
I find guardians way easier to kill now, seem balanced to me.
Overall it’s quite decent balance now, except thieves that they seem like they cant get right. Everything they have is strong, and they are still all over the place oneshotting things. That’s the ruin of the gameplay. Give them a proper fix, as it is now an overall damage nerf is what is needed. Then the game will be a ok. Or well, buff rangers a bit… I feel sorry for them when I meet up against them =(
Bunkers over-all is a lot weaker now, actually so much so that I would dare say we wont see much of them in tPvP. There just is so little (read close to none) gain from having a weak bunker when you can have an equally weak (survivability wise) DPS build. Is it the start of the glass cannons supreme reign? I don’t know, time will tell. Doubt people will stop going full glass cannon because bunkers are gone
And Rangers don’t need a buff per say, they just need some re-modelling. I’ve met a few Rangers in tournies that have performed well enough on the damage/survivability side. It’s the key side of actual contribution they lack. They are not as good as roamers, not as good as point defenders, not as good as point offenders and they don’t bring any kind of gimmicky things (like portal or whatnot). Rework their whole utility tree and give them a niche ArenaNet. We like our Rangers.
No offense, but why would the class with the most escape abilities/possibilities in the game need more survivability? Your whole class evolves around hitting without being hit…I hate to play this card but perhaps you should just sit down, study your class and learn how to play it?
I am more worried about the changes to bunkers, since there really is no niche of builds/classes around that can counter the glass cannons any more. Bunkers filled a role, and so did glass cannons. With one of them more or less gone I shudder to think what the other one might be able to do..
its really sad kinda.. the only thing holding away backstab thiefs were some bunker builds and those all got nerfed now.
And since they did not really buff anything else at Thiefs and left the basilisk venom backstab glasscannon build alone, they kinda gave Thief a free kill-them-all-card in hot-join
To be fair to ArenaNet, this is kinda what people asked for..
I have run into countless thief/bunker discussions where the general idea has been “Nerf those lame bunkers and then people will not need to play as glass cannon thiefs to counter them”.. Well they got what they wanted, bunkers are basically no more (they were rendered obsolete the moment they got “fixed” down to the point where they can’t counter glass cannons better than anyone else) but does people re-roll from their glass cannon builds? Of course not, who would? Now that they can focus their attention on the even more squishy classes and reign supreme.
I have not been playing much since the new patch due to vacation, but my initial impression is that some things of the patch was well done and needed, and some things just shifted the imbalance even further in the wrong direction.
More testing is needed, but I think ArenaNet just made for themselves some more work, not that it was needed
Hey as title suggest im looking for a guild/group to play some tPvp with.
Can play mesmer and thief well.
Add me hotees.6047
There is plenty of teams out there needing members, and Mesmer is currently a “must have” in any competitive team.
I hope you do find a team and I would also suggest that you post on GuildWars2Guru and ArenaJunkies (among others).
CC fields? if you mean etherial combo fields for example null field , time warp and chaos storm have quite high cooldowns also there are not classed as CC as there are not control based skills with the exception of chaos field which is a 1 second daze. Really though for point defense at this moment in time rangers are not usually the prefered profession as they provide a better presence in team fights.
Also in regards to retalliation the damage back from retal is minor from what i’ve seen it’s around 20%-30% i think correct me if i’m wrong. I understand that it’s frustrating to die to conditions believe me dying to two necro’s in foefire is not fun at all, however conditions can be countered you just need to find what works for you.
again hope this helps.
On more than 1 occasion damage breakdown would show retaliation as highest damage when i die to guards and recently to mesmer too.So that damage is not minor at all. Moreover it should not be part of the game at all.I f i am defending a point and opponent has ret buff i cant run and i cant hit him.I should just stand there and take hits? Cant even strafe properly around him to avoid his damage cause for some reason you cant turn while holding right mouse button or use endurance for short movement speed burst like in AoC.Plus you actually slow down when movinfg in combat when it shoul be the opposite ( adrenaline kicks in etc).
This reply might sound a bit harsh, and I am also not trying to promote myself, just stating that it can be handled with practice and “skill” (for lack of a better word).
I hinted at it at my last post, and I will repeat it again. If you get retaliation or confusion you can either cleanse it (from yourself or the enemy) and lacking that you can simply avoid attacking!
The problem that occurs then (as you have stated) is that he can attack but not you. So, instead of calling the boon/condition OP you might want to think around the problem? The first (and perhaps most obvious, but still most efficient) option is to prevent the enemy from doing damage, putting you back on even ground. How can you do this? Well, perhaps some nice CC? Line of Sight? Dodge rolling?
As you brought up, while holding a point your options are limited, but I consider CC,Block,Evade being all good options, available for all.
Might be sour to get the answer “practice more” or “increase your skill and awareness” but in some cases (a lot of them tbh) it is the only real answer. Let’s not make GW2 into another child’s game, Please!
P.S. This all comes from someone who have a) learned it the hard way and b) uses it on a daily basis with great success. I never ever have ret/conf on the top half of my breakdown. D.S.
Get rid of all-in bunker builds . Get rid of the Protection boon . No hardocrebunker make the game way more interesting because of constant changes in node controll . 80% of the games , after you either loose or win the 1-st teamfight the game is pritty much OVER.
-get rid of all-in bunks
-get rid of spike brusts (mesmer , thief , gs warr)
-give different hotjoin matches 5v5 6v6 4v4 (8v8 is a slugfest of thiefs and mesmers ,and if you are casually playing the game u get angry and get on the forums ranting about how much the theif needs 2be nerfed)
-mesmer portal needs a range nerf , because it is making this particular proffesion mendatory for competitive player versus player
-the currnet ticket value for paid tournaments is absurd. Make it from 5 to 1 , because people are looking for other games.
-ladders , info info info. People play competitive because of the info they get. 80% of the viewers on twitch are teams watching other teams , becase of the lack of info.
-the developement scale atm is 10-5% pvp – 85-90% pve .p.s Do not make this TORTANIC 2.0
Agree with some things, like ladders and the hot-join etc. But the mesmer portal would be fine if they make it so you can’t carry a repair kit through. Glass cannons is annoying but does what it’s meant to do (if you exclude the AoE of it). The bunkers have gotten quite a few tweaks/nerfs, especially to their boons. Bunkers should (and is not, mostly) being used straight out as all-in bunkers in the higher competition, it’s more like semi-bunkers there, because you can’t afford to lose the damage for nothing. And (for guardian at least) the protection have already been nerfed strongly. You can get perhaps 10 sec per 30 sec of protection. And a lot of that is skill based (ie number 4 on shield, gives nice protection but has to hit the allies).
The biggest problem I have at the moment is that the strongest spike abilities actually is a small AoE, or even gets stronger when used as a AoE. Both warriors and thiefs and mesmers has this. Couple this with time warp, nullfield, cluster bomb or epidemic and you have for yourself a silly broken teamfight mode.
Bottom line, I am fine with spike damage as long as it is on 1 target, and very CD/resource demanding. But in it’s current state it is used more as a “AoE win button” than the ability to quickly bring down speccs/classes with a high survivability.
And I don’t know that lowering the prices for paid tournaments is a fix either. The rewards would most likely be lowered, the competition would be the same etc. But perhaps increase the ticket drop rate from chests? Or even a straight up glory price for tickets? Even at rank 25 I have 50k+ glory and no where to put it, already bought/crafted pretty much all the gear for my rank.
CC fields? if you mean etherial combo fields for example null field , time warp and chaos storm have quite high cooldowns also there are not classed as CC as there are not control based skills with the exception of chaos field which is a 1 second daze. Really though for point defense at this moment in time rangers are not usually the prefered profession as they provide a better presence in team fights.

Don’t quote me on this one, but I am pretty sure that the damage taken from retaliation and confusion is based off of power. Not a percentage of the damage done or anything such, so it should be consistent.
Confusion (as has been mentioned) is by far not as bad as you (the OP) wants to make it look. It has a short duration, so if you get confusion stacked just dodge roll for 1 sec and wait another second and then you are good to go.
I would pick retaliation over confusion every time of the day. Sure the enemy must be attacking You to get damaged but retaliation should only be used when you have someone attacking you anyway.
Both pretty much does the same thing, and almost the same damage (if not the same, don’t know the alghoritm for them). It’s just a matter of being aware enough to notice when they are being used.
In my eyes the buff/condition is good and well balanced. Sorry to say this, I know it does not sound good, but it is just a matter of skill to be able to notice and counter it. Practice makes perfect.
Just a comment on #7: There are several traits that do things when dodge is activated. They may be prepping. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dodge
I have yet to see or hear of a dodge roll trait that is worth “preparing” for a fight. And I would pick the 2-3 full evades ahead of whatever small buff the “prepare-roll” would give
You can really see on the dodge rolls how good a player is. For example, does he use the rolls at the right attacks? To evade the right AoE? Does he roll to never let his endurance sit at max? Does he roll into AoE? Does he roll off the point? etc etc.
Edit: Really liked the post, giggled at quite a few of those, I so could see most of them mentally.
I find it interesting to know what proffession each player is playing in the Ladder.
Is it posible?
Perhaps you can add them to friends list and see what they play? Or check their stream (a lot of the top players/teams are streaming, or were atleast).
But I can pretty much tell you straight up that it’s gonna be Guardians, Mesmers, Elementalists, Thiefs and Engineers. Perhaps a necromancer and warrior here and there.
How long are people willing to wait if they split queues into full pre-mades and non-full (you can’t only have single/duo queues, it will be 1 player through 4 players or 5 players)? How long do you already wait?
Also, if people are holding Jon to a certain level of professionalism, it’s only fair to hold everyone else to the same. He’s wrong via misinterpretation (and I think he should apologize, but that’s just how I handle things), but getting your jollies off of “calling the ANet guy out” doesn’t help the conversation, either.
Random Arena in GW1 has 30 sec Queue. Even right now.
You only need 5 × 2 =10 people to click Queue to start a non-premade ladder game. You need only 2 teams to start a premade ladder game. The whole tournament thing is silly. You need 5 X 8 = 40 people or 8 whole teams to start a tournament.
Just split solo queue and premade-queue ladder games, like pretty much every other games are doing. It is fine even without match making. People will be interested to join and there will be no long queue.
I do agree somewhat here. I like the idea about tournaments a lot, but they should not have started with it. They should have started with a Ladder system with a match making system.
The queues might not have been a lot better, but the competition would have been a lot more even.
The problem with your (ShRNA) idea is that sure you only need 9 other people or 1 other team to queue up to start a match, But it would need to be players around your skill/placement in the ladder. But as I’ve mentioned, the competition would be a lot more even and the experience would be a lot more fun and educational.
The main point of this QQ is that this ladder mean nothing for the game. Im not saying that those teams dont deserve it.. but it will not improve in any way the current state of tPvP and in fact it only shows how small playerbase we do have..
Agree to 100%. The single only thing this “leaderboard” does is to prove how incredibly small the competetive pool is. And I dare bet my account on the main reason being the huge wall of “farm to get farmed” that Anet have put up for the mid-tier players.
The current state of the game is that pretty much no one is satisfied/content with the structure we have now. Low-tier is tired of the badly balanced and random hot join. Mid-tier is tired of the even worse free tournaments where they either stomp pugs or get stomped by professional players bored by the Paid queues.
High-tier players is bored because they either have to wait for forever to meet near-equal teams in paid or just go free and stomp the mid-tier players.
We need a change to the current sPvP scene and we need the lacking core features for e-sport/sPvP to be implemented. Then we can actually evaluate the game adequately.
without bunker glass cannons will become useless and ppl will change builds to something more self sufficient… bunkers need nerfing=problem solved
without glass cannons bunkers will become useless and ppl will change builds to something more self sufficient… glass cannons need nerfing=problem solved
not really, because bunkers are not here as reaction to glass cannons, but because of cap point mode of the game. glass cannons are here as reaction to bunkers or as suport to bunkers, so it all started with bunkers
And you know this how? Which one came first? The hen or the egg? My post was not to say you were wrong, just saying that there is always two sides to the same coin. Remove bunkers and glass cannons Will stay in the game, probably even increase in numbers since alot will use them to even easier roflstomp the “balanced classes”. Remove glass cannons and people will just CC or negate bunkers in other ways.
In my eyes bunkers might need some tweaks (and have gotten plenty, shout guards are much weaker now for example) and are kind of necessary at the moment (just like, for example, the mesmer). But glass cannons is not just a balance issue, but in my eyes a flawed concept all in all.
Bunkers= A class that can outlive 1-2 players (skill being a huge factor here) and being considered so strong at the moment due to conquest being the only PvP format.
Glass cannons= A class that will instant gibb everything, even bunkers (skill is a much lesser factor here) but still fills no other role than to..instant gibb people.
without bunker glass cannons will become useless and ppl will change builds to something more self sufficient… bunkers need nerfing=problem solved
without glass cannons bunkers will become useless and ppl will change builds to something more self sufficient… glass cannons need nerfing=problem solved
did you not have a necro or engi in the team?
One of these would pretty much have just crushed them.
I would Much more want to meet a bunch of guardian bunkers (they are quite easy to counter, and when the whole team is based upon them..) than for example a bunch of thiefs, or warriors or mesmers.
I think it measures all the hits you have taken since you went in combat and got finished while downed.
Most likely this. It would pretty much have to be from the start of combat to the end (aka death). Or possibly from the moment you ress to the moment you die.
I would guess on the first one though. Seeing as I usually just die a few times/match but still never have damage for more than about 2-3 times my healthpool represented in the breakdown.
Last I checked they were looking into finding a way to have the random or smaller pre-mades matched up against each other.
This is likely yes, since I still hold some kind of hope that Anet actually do know what they do (no matter what they have shown so far).
But where can you find this actually being stated or even hinted at? The communication from Anet to the community is just horribly disappointing.
In my opinion Anet have gotten their communications all backwards.
What they have done is: They told us oh so much about how awesome the game would be, and what sweet sweet features Would be in it. But then did not deliver on it, and is now all shush shush about what they are working on.
What they should have done: Actually kept their mouths shut a bit more pre-release, not hyping the game so much. And when the game did come out and was found Oh so very lacking, Then they could open their mouths and “hype” the things coming/they are working on.
And what people have already posted about that I want to agree with is the kinda mind-boggling fact that they did a great work with GW1 PvP, but then just (seemingly) threw all that experience away and went and did the complete opposite for GW2.
Sure, I understand that they didn’t just want to make a GW1 sequel, but a new game. But when it isn’t broken, then don’t fix it! They could easily have added new features like weapon swapping and downed state but still keep the “good” things like their PvP formats and tournament structure etc.
Cool idea and good post man! I just have some problems relying on the facts you put down. And what does level have to do with anything really? Matters nothing in PvP.
And also I dont believe in the numbers either. I excludingly play tPvP with my team and we almost Never ever see dual guardians in any tournaments. It is incredibly more normal with dual mesmers, thiefs or necromancers.
Granted I have not collected any data on this, it is just my impression. But still, about half a thousand tournaments should give you a decent idea of what is most oftenly played.
The only reason I can think would be that almost all teams go with a guardian, but then you almost never see one go without a mesmer for the trebuchet or a thief for roaming or elementalist/enginner for support bunker. The only class that is at all less represented than the rest is ranger, and that is not very strange, due to them not bringing anything to the table. They can’t do anything no one else can, and excels at nothing.
I seriously think you overestimates TP and other “e-sports teams”. I have yet to see a streamed TP (or other teams like team lunatic or team legacy) match where they “own” the enemy team. Even if you only manage to hold 1 point through the whole game you will roughly lose to 500-250.
And I dont mind losing badly to a team, as long as I know I’ve done my best And learned what to do differently/better (aka improved myself). There just is no way you will improve when “owning” other players.
How can the idea that to improve yourself in a Player versus Player enviroment is a bad one? You think the “best players” just was born that good? I promise you, there was a time when they got roflstomped as well. It actually All boils down to how fast you can improve yourself. And please dont give me no talk about that you, he or I can not improve enough to beat them, because that is just down-talking.
so you think if you lost 500-250 and kept playing against TP you would eventually beat them and become a professional sponsored team yourself? And I’m the making crazy statements? lol ok in that case every single team would be elite eventually, which is absurd. Any game/sport with ratings/ladders has proven this and I’m not sure why you are trying to debate it. There will be elite teams and mediocre teams forever.
the idea to improve yourself is good, but everyone has a ceiling. And what you continue to utterly fail to understand is that with the current system, those mid tier teams that just dont have time to play and practice as much as pro teams are stuck either playing against elite teams in paid tournies or pugs in free tournies, occasionally by luck getting matched up with an equal skill team in a free tournament.
TLDR, mid-tier teams (which exist in every game/sport in the history of the world) rarely play fun competitive matches with the current system.
Last reply: Thank you for your insight, although I do not agree. I will not keep the debate going, just wanted to point out that your whole reasoning is based on the simple fact that the “mid-tier” teams are wastly out-numbered compared to the low-tiered teams. The only explanation I can see is that you probably are a low-tier player that Thinks he is a mid-tier one?!
and Rythgar please stop bringing up rewards and “lower tier” nonsense, the rewards are cosmetic, nobody asking for these changes gives a crap about gear and rewards, they want fun competitive matches against equally skilled players and currently neither spvp or free tournaments offer this for casual players and solo queuers.
If your answer to everyone is just “get better l2p” you’ll end up with a dead game on your hands because casuals are the majority and the audience for e-sports.
Point taken, and I agree. But there is just kinda So much you can ask of your game developers. They can’t very well program a perfect match making system (surprise surprise there is none..).
The first and best step you can do is to actually just create a team and go for it. Because the sPvP is based around 5vs5 right? kinda logical really? no?
And then when you have a team you can take the good, bad and boring matches togheter, and hopefully ArenaNet will implement some kind of ladder system or alike, that will improve the match making some.
Oh but, for the ladder system (or basically any other decent match making) to work you kinda need to have teams to rate, don’t you?
Anyways, I might be a bit harsh and my solutions might not be in your taste, or optimal for some, but they are in my eyes the most logical, do-able and realistical.
But if you want to keep QQ’ing about the system and it’s design then please go ahead I’m sorry the discussion could not be more rewarding.
To be honest, if I’d put it to the extreme I could just pick up your arguments and request that they dont let e-sports teams play on the paid tournaments, because my “normal” premade is getting beaten by teams like Paradigm etc.
no applying your argument to that situation would go like this: if you faced team paradigm or equivalent the first match of every tournament losing 500-50 would your team be having fun? I could just say well get better team mates or better communication otherwise go play spvp.
I said to use His arguments…not Mine! Please read my post correctly before you quote it. Thank you.
i used your argument on purpose because it was a bad one. You are telling him to get better. If you were facing TP and getting stomped, I could say the same thing to you, just get better. but chances are you, and the majority of players will never be able to even get within 200 points of TP no matter how much you play and practice.
Go start playing golf 8 hours a day ever day for the next 10 years, guess what, you still won’t be a pro in 10 years.
I seriously think you overestimates TP and other “e-sports teams”. I have yet to see a streamed TP (or other teams like team lunatic or team legacy) match where they “own” the enemy team. Even if you only manage to hold 1 point through the whole game you will roughly lose to 500-250.

Solo queuing tpvp shouldn’t be possible IMO. It’s a tournament, it should require a full group to be queued together.
Why?
Why can’t there be a competitive but still slightly casual Solo Queue, a Free Team Tourny and a paid Team Tourny?
LoL has Solo Queue and I think it helps ALOT for them in terms of Esports. It lets the more casual partake in competitive play, it’s a great entrance going from Hotjoin into Competitive play, a good way to find a team/players and get your name out there. It’s also another carrot besides skins (that get dyed anyway…), get better and watch your number grow.
Right now it’s choose between getting farmed by Premades or play in the 8v8 clusterkitten.
The thing is, that all you are asking for is a tournament for a “lower” lever of tournament play. Because to be honest, puging means a much lower level of gameplay, because you are not used to each other, have no chance to communicate properly and the classes/builds etc is random.
And in my eyes what you are asking for is Exactly what the “normal” sPvP is there for.
Tournaments should not Need to be team only, but dont complain when you go up against teams please, because where would the teams go if not to tournaments?
Dont like the higher level of competition then go sPvP.
Oh and yes, the rewards is not as good no. But what do you expect when the competition is higher?
To be honest, if I’d put it to the extreme I could just pick up your arguments and request that they dont let e-sports teams play on the paid tournaments, because my “normal” premade is getting beaten by teams like Paradigm etc.

I said to use His arguments…not Mine! Please read my post correctly before you quote it. Thank you.
Quick fix, improve on the paid tournaments against better teams and rise to the rank of “elite premade”.
As I see it there is three reasons why you enjoy PvP.
1) You like to “pwn” and generally own people, in this case just stick to your #1.
2) You enjoy comparing your skills against other players, and get your kicks from improving and “beating yourself”. In this case see the matches against “elite premades” as much needed practise.
3) You both enjoy improving yourself and your teamplay And defeating other players. In this case just do both 1 and 2.
No one is stopping you from picking up four other “rank 1-10” players and learning how to play the game togheter!
Your argument Might have worked in other games where the rank actually matters (read higher rank=better gear) but in guild wars 2 the only thing the rank says is how much experience they have. Not necessarily skill or any other advantage over you.
If you are getting shredded in a puged tournament it is based on a) you were unlucky and got paired up with mainly bad players or b) you are meeting a decent+ premade.
The answer to your problem is not to lock premade teams out of free tournaments or anything like it, it is actually alot easier than that! It is to get a group of people, get onto a voice software togheter and then play the game Togheter!

I agree that you should not balance a game purely with “nerfs/buffs”. And I agree fully with haste being a bit too strong, and the stealth rendering being completely broken.
But with that being said, I dont agree with anything of the rest. Burst should be able to kill a player in the matter of seconds, and a “bunker” should be able to outlive Alot more than a “balanced/damage” build. Otherwise it would be no point in picking that specific build.
I do not know where you get your GW2 PvP experience from. But I get my information from paid tournaments. And if you actually know how to play your class and how to counter the other classes, the proclaimed imbalances will pretty much be proven flawed.
For example, I am a point defender guardian and sure I can outlive one or two good players, but just for a limited time, and I will not be close to killing either one of them, not even a glass cannon to be honest.
I am rather happy with how the tPvP is at the moment. It Really gives the feeling that it actually is the teamwork and the skill of the team players that matter, not necessarily the composition/builds.
Sure you will want atleast 1 bunker, and atleast 1-2 “roamers” that quickly can come and assist you, and you want to have a good synergy between stomping and ressing etc. But about half of the classes can be a good bunker if played right, and most classes can be a good roamer if specced for it. It comes down more to how you build your team and play it, not specifically what Classes you pick.
Bottom-line, fix broken stuff and polish the definition of classes, but dont overly buff or nerf any class. You (ArenaNet) have such a promising foundation for a PvP game here, dont break it like Blizzard (amongst others) have done with their games.
I would much rather see you spent time and money on fixing stuff that actually matters, please!
99% dislike underwater combat, balancer or not. And the map is just awfull for competetive play!
Give us rented arenas so we can start some real e-sporting. Give us spectator mode for the same reason. Start doing some tournaments/events for e-sporting and please work some more on camera/renderings.
