GvG, get out of my WvW.

I don’t want to see a bunch of people /bowing and /saluting each other in a big blob south of middle supply. Anytime I do see it I want to run in there and disrupt it, but I don’t because I’m not a griefer. You guys enjoy it. I can’t understand where the joy in fighting on ‘even’ terms is, the whole point of WvW is you can roll over singles, or you can get rolled over, and you don’t know when it’s going to happen. That’s the excitement, that’s the joy. Tearing down the mighty walls of a keep, and consuming the pitiful fools clinging to their arrow carts. Or having it done to you, wondering where your allies are as you try to hold that tower against immosible odds for one…more…tick. Perhaps I am just the target audience for the WvW design, but I know I am not the only person who feels this way.

GvG is fun for those who like it, I do not doubt that. I wish there was a place for you all to fight that didn’t interfere with WvW.

The joy of fighting on even terms is that some people want sport. Even terms allows proof of skill. Call it kitten or whatever you want but being competitive is in human nature, and mild regulations let you know exactly who won without dispute.

Even if you hate GvG happening in WvW, understand that we’re not all that fond of it either, and we’d love a place to do it that doesn’t interfere with WvW. No matter which side of the fence you’re on, supporting GvG-specific attention from Anet benefits both sides.

Where’s the love for 20v gone?

I’ve always thought that 25 is a bit high, 15 is okay, and 20 is the nice middle-ground. Imo the lower numbers you go the less it starts becoming about team-builds and teamplay overall, and more leans towards ganker setups and the like. I suppose it depends on people’s preferences, though; whether they prefer “Look at this 1v2 I won!” or “Look at this spike my team pulled off!”

A team of solo builds working in cohesion is just as interesting as a full team-build setup, it’s just that I’ve always looked towards tpvp for that – if you want to go lower numbers for the reason of individual skill coming in to shine, then 5v is where it’s at I think, no need for 10v. In a 10v there’ll still be too much going on at once for every player to get the spotlight they want/deserve. Unless of course you have specific builds using the “pve” rules (as we all use in wvw) that you want to run for the low numbers which is why it’s done in wvw, then all the power to you.

Contrary to the seemingly popular belief, tpvp and wvw can live alongside one another in harmony. I enjoy both.

Sounds about right Darko & Caid, I remember making bad calls in that fight, being too late to pull back then pulling back when we should have pushed, pretty much getting everyone killed .

Still, supposed to have vids so I can see who died first so I can scream at them about how I will kill them myself if they cause any rallies. Apparently I wasn’t entertaining enough in TS.

It mustve been 15-20minutes of constant AR suicide lemmings throwing themselves into the Golanta blue circle to stop us capping it. All they achieved was giving us shedloads of bags and looking a bit clueless… wouldve been easier and better tactics to let us take it then recap in 5minutes when boss buff goes off.

The funny thing is was they probably outnumbered us if they had got organised lol

It’s a valid tactic to stall the circle until reinforcements arrive. When it’s a fully upgraded 250 supp camp they’ll ofc want to protect it. When their waypoint at the keep is 30 seconds away and ours is a 2 min run, the idea is to wear the attackers down til they’re wiped. We capped the camp because I went and tagged their keep.

I’ve always felt there’s lopsided balance in EB. Red will typically be the weakest server and has the least defensive layout on the west side, while green will typically be the strongest server with the strongest third of the map. Blue is a bit meh, but decent in my opinion.

Overlook in the red side is a tank of a keep, probably the best one, but the entire west side sucks to make up for it. Ogrewatch is a strong tower, Veloka is good to defend as well, and both towers can be almost baby-sat by Overlook. Anzalias on the other hand, I’m sure everybody hates it and Mendon’s is not a great shape or placement either, nearly the entirety of the insides of both can be aoe’d from outside. Both towers are a long way from their camp and upgrades are slow – losing a t3 Anza or Mendon’s hurts. While the red keep can treb SM, the red keep can also be trebbed from SM. Overlook can only treb SM from an aoe-able wall spot, while SM can treb OL from a ground spot which can only be counter-trebbed from open ground.

The green third is just nice and symmetrical, and players can get to any of their towers or camps in about 30-45 seconds from the keep’s waypoint. The towers have good shapes for defensive siege within, and every tower can be reached by a treb from the keep for more cover. Wildcreek can treb SM relatively safe from aoe, and Klovan can treb SM not only safe from aoe but also safe from counter-trebbing from SM itself. The watergates at the keep are only good for golems, the north door forces invaders into a choke as they enter, and the south gates are right by green’s spawn.

Blue is decent enough, though the keep isn’t as strong as red’s or green’s. Blue’s outside towers are decent – Durios can treb SM safe from outside aoe and can only be counter-trebbed with precision. While nearly all of Quentin can be aoe’d from outside like Anza and Mendon’s, the shape of Quentin forces invaders into a complete choke as they enter where defenders have high ground. I’ve seen many successful defences of Quentin despite walls and door down. Bravost is a strong tower, and so is Langor. Both have treb/mortar backup from the keep. Blue also has the infamous jumping puzzle tower in the ruins, which can reach SM with trebs.

I’d just like to see red and green switch places in EB. The strongest and probably most aggressive server shouldn’t have the easiest position to defend as well, and it shouldn’t have easy access to the weakest area of EB which is red’s west side. I actually think blue is pretty balanced, probably the most balanced of the thirds, the only issue is that it doesn’t have any easily offensive sides – to the north through ogre camp you face red’s OP Ogrewatch side, but to the west through the hylek you face green who will reach you from their keep in 30 secs. I guess everybody’s experiences differ.

As we play quite competitive PvP, the tone in TS can get a little rough. I like playing with girls in my 3 hours of PvE a week, but (please dont take this bad, its due to my very own expirience) Id not want to rely on a girl in my WubWubWub team, as I see them as less competitive than men. For sure not less skilled though. Must be the testosterone

There’s as many varying personalities amongst women as there is with men. There’s some women I wouldn’t want on my team if I didn’t think they were competitive enough, just as there’s some men precisely the same.

Female raid lead and current stand-in GM of my guild for the record, but I’ve never been aware that my gender has to matter. I just play the game.

Isaac you are hopeless and have missed the point in this thread too many times.

It’s very funny when people come in and try to explain why the costs are the way they are or how it’s all about Anet’s business skeelz or some kitten, as if people are not already aware of this.

What is being said is that the ONLY thing your chosen server affects is WvW.
You may guest onto ANY server within your region (EU/NA) to pve and play with your friends to your heart’s content.
The ONLY thing you are locked to is WvW.

Because of this, in all logical sense, the transfer cost SHOULD be linked to WvW in some way.
We don’t care about all the reasons why it currently isn’t this way. We are saying that it SHOULD be this way and Anet should find a way to go about it.

It makes absolutely no sense for server transfers to be decided by a pve element when guesting exists. It is even null and void to base the cost on server “size” because as people have mentioned – a server may be “Full” at 19:00, but by 3am that will drop down to “Very High” and people have space to transfer there.

It has been proven by bottom tier “Full” servers and top tier “Medium” servers that server population =/= WvW strength.

The whole system is kitten and needs to be revised.

Only a WvW player is constantly on the look-out for orange swords while on a pve map.

You forgot to mention that at the same time there was a GG group of 15+ pounding on the west inner gate. So we focussed on them and cleared them just before you guys brought the south gate down. Intense, but once you guys were standing in the lord room with a massive TUP and sIN (50+ surely) army we didn’t stood a chance.

??? When was this? GG was called off by 23:20, I think Wam is talking about something that happened much later if siN were around. The combined effort on Garrison earlier in the evening included around 4-5 guilds. I can understand if it’s frustrating, but we always seek to work alongside one another.

Had good fun in Gandara BL tonight. Fights back and forth and everywhere. I’m looking forward to when culling gets “fixed” however, so one of these days we won’t find ourselves getting run over by enormous amounts that continue to render endlessly, or feeling like an own victory of ours was cheap due to the enemy likely not even seeing us. Doh.

There were lots of great attacks and defences at the keeps, Gandara defended their Garrison with everything they had and AR held onto Hills for a long time despite our endless onslaught.

Great co-ordination between our guilds as always, the attacks on Hills, Garrison, and our defence of Bay were fantastic. For people who tend to blob their forces up into large masses of 70+, really, don’t do it. It’s so much more effective to have several 20-mans at different points.

I want to give a special mention to a poor Gandaran Norn warrior, I believe he was. I think he was on the run from Balkan Legacy, cutting under the little “bridge” of Briar, unfortunately right as GG was passing beneath there also. He and I ran into each other and stopped in our tracks like a slapstick comedy, I wasn’t going to hurt him but unfortunately the GG train was right behind me and went into attack mode instantly. We’re so sorry for trampling you! There was much laughter on TS and we felt awful that we’d so brutally (and accidentally) blocked your escape. Silly little highlight of the evening!

GG was in the ARBL for the first half of the night, went to GBL for the second half but we mostly fought with the french at the southern end Don’t think I’ve come across a [WvW] warband yet, but seen many of the players about. Hope to meet you soon

You must admit Piken went all out at reset though.

It is our style to go all out on reset with everything we have, and this time we had queues on every map within about 5 seconds of the portals opening. GG was split between EB and ARBL with about 10 guys on each after hitting the wall of queues.
It’s not alien for us to steamroll on reset with dedication and then receive focus from both other servers throughout the rest of the week, so bring it on! Looking forward to fights; don’t lose morale, otherwise we’ll have to rp on the battlements of SM looking for our cat.
(Another mention to [YaK] from Gandara, you have a lot of potential, so keep it up!)

Well Piken did receive a lot of flak in previous weeks. Maybe you can understand why the Pikens got defensive about the server on forums, saying that you hadn’t seen us in full strength – last week, you got to see us back to strength at primetime, and this week RG has come home and sIN are here to boost our night numbers straight off from reset.

Just remember, Piken was at t3 before Christmas. We don’t need to argue our point on forums, we’ll only show it in-game.

In my biased opinion , I’d say that warriors can achieve high survivability while dishing out more direct damage than guardians, making an initial push look more brutal and successful.

It was an intense search, spreading to every corner of EB! We spotted the cat stuck behind the water gate of the green keep! We smashed and smashed that metal grate to free it while you lot fruitlessly searched SM… sadly Augury drove us away Sounds like VII is to blame!

You could only watch GvG and Hero’s Ascent matches with the spectator, which were 8v8 formats (with some 8v8v8 in Halls). Alliance Battles, Random Arenas, Team Arenas and Codex never had spectator. AB was 12v12, the others were all 4v4.

Spvp does actually have strategy whereas WvW not so much.

Whatwhat? I disagree there; for one it’s not zerg-busting but rather large-scale action of two organised sides, 20v20 or 30v30 etc.
There is plenty of strategy in WvW, considering WvW can be seen as the RTS of GW2 Collaboration, co-operation and organisation between 30+ people is not something to be taken lightly. It’s just more epic than 5v5. Think about all the scope for varied tactics and roles.

It did feel quite empty on the Gandara BL tonight. We got some action eventually but for the first hour it felt as though we were wandering around aimlessly looking for something to do.

Good luck with building up some guilds Gandara! I can second what others say that once you’re running in (or leading) a tight, organised team, it’s some of the most fun you’ll have in the game. Learn from everything you see being done and try it yourselves. The stronger opposition we have to face the more fun we’ll have, too. It’s not fun to turn a corner and see your opponents retreat and scatter before even engaging. In the words of Sylas; “this might be suicide, I don’t care.”

We typically come to forums to share our experiences of good fights, thank our opponents, and have some friendly banter. I don’t see much, if any of that from Gandara. Unfortunately, it appears that much of the baiting has worked and here we have vile threads that I’m not interested in.

You can throw some at me about some alliance and about Piken’s bad image, but I’ve come back from being away over the Christmas period and this is all I see. I wasn’t involved, and I don’t care. Grudge-holding always confuses me because it’s a lot of wasted energy to consciously remain angry at something that is passed. And here, we are talking about a video game on the internet.
