You wouldn’t say that if you were a ranger on the ranger forums. Only after the huge explosion of dissatisfied players flocking to the forums did they bother to even have a single post on there by a developer.

Are you using the On-Screen Display at all? If you are, I added GW2.exe, and the settings are :

Hello ,
Thanks for the replies. Ive decided to go rampager due to my trap based build. I was wondering what hp value should a decent ranger have. What if i concentrate more on PvE ? Should i still concern myself on getting several gears with vit ? Or can i carry on being a glass cannon ?
Finally , thanks for the replies. I do read all of them as well as read up more on the game. Am fairly new to MMOs. Happy GW2-ingRegards
RuiQi
In PvE (not dungeons) glass cannon is perfectly fine. Dungeons however… I don’t have much experience with. I’ve only ever did 2 dungeons, and CoE Explorer Mode as glass cannon.. Not so fun xD

SweetFX has to go for me /: It doesn’t work well with MSI Afterburner OSD which I use to record. Enabling the option to be compatible with modified Direct3D binaries/libraries does not help either. Oh well, it looked good while it lasted ):
Sea of Sorrows
When in windowed mode, did you think about simply resizing the window to 1280×720?
Unfortunately that does not give me a perfect 1280×720 resolution to record with. Doesn’t matter anymore ^^ I managed to get MSI Afterburner recording working, it just wouldn’t run properly with SweetFX installed /:
Sea of Sorrows
Are you launching GW2 as Administrator WITHOUT SweetFX installed? I had this problem too but I fixed it by removing SweetFX and running the game normally. Afterburner OSD does not work properly with SweetFX so it had to go /:

Hello all, just a quick question. Been wanting to record my gameplay for awhile now, and well basically, recording in 1080p is hugely stressful, and in WvW I need gameplay to be as smooth as possible without the added CPU strain from Fraps.
What I wanna know is how do I force the game to play at 1280×720 in WINDOWED mode? I can’t seem to do it no matter what I set in the settings and I’ve tried every command line argument there is. It either runs at 1280×720 full screen which gives me a really weird look to it, or it plays in 1080 windowed mode ):
I’m also using the beta widescreen FoV command line argument that was posted by ANet. Any help would be awesome

switching sound device in windows does not switch GW2 sound

You can’t just switch audio sources from running programs. Usually they have to be relaunched to take effect.
Sea of Sorrows
You can do it on air.. I overclocked my i5 from 2.8GHz to 3.8GHz and it never goes above 75C under load. Coolermaster V8.
Sea of Sorrows
and if i dont have widescreen i have normal monitor ! ?i can still do it?
Probably not. Unless the Nov 15 update comes with a max zoom slider.

Third party FoV modifications aren’t allowed, Samfisher.
It’s posted by ArenaNet themselves…

When people make topics to complain about something that clearly is not and won’t ever be part of this game mechanics they are just complaining for the sake of it and things like that can lead to infractions. If you want to make a post about a suggestion you have, at least try to make a plausible one. Else you are just a troll and won’t ever be taken seriously by anyone, including the devs.
Because it’s completely unheard of for MMOs to add new skills with expansions.
This must be your first, I take it?
Adding new skills/weapons. Yes. Completely changing the core mechanic of the game. No.
Swappable skills would not be a core mechanic change. We can already do that with slot skills. Whats to stop them from doing that with weapon skills as well? Give me 20 pistol skills on my dual pistol engineer and let me pick 5 for the situation I need, swapping them out of combat like slot skills. That alone would alleviate 90% of my boredom with combat.
I probably play MMOs for way longer than you…
DBZ (the full name is censored? 0_o) World (a MUD) in 1997 and then finally got my own machine to play Ultima Online in 99.
And there you have it, the first suggestion in the whole thread
Sea of Sorrows
Adding more skills will still limit you to 10, so makes absolutely no difference to the OP’s complain of only having 10 skills at any one time.
Sea of Sorrows
I don’t think anyone here ever played GW1… I went from GW1 to WoW to GW2, and I’ve got nothing to complain about this. I have 45 buttons on-screen on my hunter, not including the pet-bar.
Its because we came from GW1. If the 5 skills were swappable it would be a different matter. In GW1 we had what… over 300-400 skills to choose from?
And many were extremely situational skills. And people only ever got skills that they specifically wanted. I know I did :P I looked at every skill, researched everything and only went and got what I needed.
@Tuccos, I highly doubt you’re done with raiding in MoP, not by a long shot.
Sea of Sorrows
Do the widescreen fix, you’ll get your widescreen super zoom back.
Sea of Sorrows
I play WvW, mainly defending castles and keeps from the walls.
Full berserkers fits my playstyle. Most enemies run away when i start blasting them with Rapid Fire.
LB is only useful during sieges (attacking/defending) keeps. Rapid Fire is so terrible.. The damage you see is total damage, not damage per hit. Barrage is not good for damage, it’s good for area denial.
I play WvW too. Probably more than most by a large margin too.

Your connection probably uses Dynamic IP. It doesn’t ask for authentication unless the geolocation for that IP is/was somewhere quite far, like a different county or so.
Sea of Sorrows
@Schnuffles
Looks like you’ve never actually fought a competent opponent before.. The closer they get, the less damage you do, and the further you are the easier it is for them to dodge our painfully slow arrow travel. Full berserkers would mean you run around with 15k HP, that’s 1 Kill Shot crit + 1-2 auto attacks.
Sea of Sorrows
How do you need to take so many screenshots during any event that you don’t filter out when you’re not actually playing the game? o.O
Sea of Sorrows
You’ve probably got some random process eating into your limited RAM. 4GB isn’t a lot these days. Windows takes the better part of 1-2GB, the game itself take 1.5-1.8GB. It’s probably a RAM issue if anything.
Sea of Sorrows
@Slark
My GTX 670 is running at 50%-60% at most in GW2 all maxed.

You can look here for a list of attribute combinations as well as their prefix/suffix. Do note that the Karma gear from Temple of Orr vendors do not follow this naming scheme.

Since I decided to use the Axe + Warhorn combo, I figured that with such a short range, I could benefit from some toughness and vit

Uhm,actually..SweetFX Does help with that since you can up the limit of saturation so much that it looks like a cartoon. And there’s more settings then saturation alone, with vibrance, tonemap etc you can do Everything with the colours in gw2.
True, but by default the majority of users aren’t gonna fiddle with the config file. Also the dull colours only happen rarely and randomly. I do run SweetFX though, but not for any other reason than MSAA and a little more vibrancy and white balance.
Sea of Sorrows
GW2 doesn’t recognize anything except actual key presses on the numbers 1-0 for your skills and/or other keybinds. I tried binding my macro keys on my G110 and it wouldn’t activate any skill, cos the game specifically only activates them if it receives the command from the keyboard numbers ):

Awful lag, no change in FPS even with graphics changes / resolution changes
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: Samfisher.7942
If you realize that pushing graphics down doesn’t give you any appreciable increase in FPS, that’s a sure fire way to knowing it’s your CPU that is holding you back. Same goes for any other game, unless it’s known that the drivers you are using are particularly bad for such and such a game.
However, there’s really no consumer CPU right now that can play WvW at 60FPS without some serious overclocking, and even then probably not.
Sea of Sorrows
The Great AL, i think you may want to read about using SweetFx for this
Unfortunately it’s nothing to do with that. The game sometimes randomly turns the whole world unsaturated, even SweetFX won’t help.

It has happened to me before occassionally, but only during the dolyak escort event in Gendarran (?).
Sea of Sorrows
120hz monitors will only make a difference if your GPU can actually hit that limit. If your rig is still only powerful to run that game at 60fps…then it’s hideously pointless :P
Sea of Sorrows
Yes it is very complicated. However I did read that there was a bug that caused reflections to be processed even when they are out of view. An example was the player was in a jungle, but the performance hit was still present cos apparently it was processing reflections that were happening to water UNDER the map and out of sight /:
Sea of Sorrows
I’ve been contemplating doing some recordings, but not sure :P
Sea of Sorrows
I personally think they need to make conditions more difficult to apply; the game shouldn’t be press button receive bacon (especially since we have auto-targeting doing the work for us…).
They need to remove the 25-stack limitation /:
Sea of Sorrows
@Vangy Well there’s Fraps… :P Also MSI AfterBurner. Gotta compress it yourself though.
Sea of Sorrows
My LB is Berserkers (Pow/Prec/Crit Damage), SB is Rampagers (Pow/Prec/Condition Damage), and my Axe + Warhorn are both Carrion (POw/Condition Damage/Vit).
Same here.
It makes sense if you look at the skills available for those weapons. Just note that dungeon exotics do not have berserker/rampager/etc prefixes, so you have to look at the stats.
Yup, they don’t have the prefixes but if you’re familiar with the stat weightings for the pieces and know what you want/need, it’s easy :P Berserker is CoE (Inquest) tokens, the rest I’m not too sure.
Sea of Sorrows
Unfortunately though, Rapid Fire is pretty meh as well. You need most of your shots to crit to get anywhere near 10k damage on a clothie, while the SB can crit for 1k AND apply a bleed and deal more total damage in a shorter time. SB / Axe + Warhorn are the best roaming set IMO
Sea of Sorrows
@Khadorian, Well, the change and also being hideously burnt out on WvW, having to fight at every free minute I have after work, and the effort was worth it to keep TA’s win record ^^
The only thing about Cond Damage for WvW is that generally, some classes go the Cond Damage way as well, and the silly max stack for bleeds is set at 25, so anything above that doesn’t add to your damage. Besides, SB can be equally powerful with Pow gear and high crit %/ damage
Axes hit pretty hard too, 1.2k crits per hit the average.
Sea of Sorrows
It be great if the pet can hit people whatever is in their swing while in a big group. It would be awesome if they hit more than one.
Hopefully it’s one of those things in consideration by ANet when they fix and add more variety to the Ranger class
Sea of Sorrows
Thanks for the info guys. I am trying to do my own thing and avoiding bandwagon builds.
You can check out my thread just below and see if the build suits you
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/My-new-WvW-build
Sea of Sorrows
AFAIK it’s single target only. And they also can’t attack on their move. And almost all their F2 skills have long kitten animations that miss their target cos by the time the cast finishes, it’s attacking empty space.
Sea of Sorrows
Longbow benefits a lot from full berseker glass cannon builds, I’m not gonna say shortbow is better or worse, but Longbow is a must have for WvW…it’s a place where the range is your main tool and you pretty much have full control over the rest thanks to the range you have when traited. Only issue are thieves that may sneak on your back…but you can’t have everything :O
Only issue is, to get max damage out of the LB you have to be 1000+ range, and at that range almost every arrow can be easily dodged, or “obstructed”. Until they fix this, I’m only using LB for sieges. Roaming? Back it goes into the bag and out comes the SB / Axe + Warhorn.
Sea of Sorrows
As many rangers who started WvW from early access, our default weapon sets were LB/SB for a long time, LB for sieging and SB for roaming. Then people started realising LB has really very little use outside of battles where you can stand in one place for a long time aka defending/attacking keeps.
I myself was disheartened at the SB + QZ bug/nerf and didn’t really play GW2 for a week or two, but also probably cos I’ve been WvW’ing for hours and hours every single day since early access, burn out gets everyone ):
But then the weekend rolled in and I decided to do something about the boredom of playing a Ranger. I respecced, bought an Axe + Warhorn and went to town

4 piece Berserker Armor
2 piece Pow/Vit/Tough from Karma vendors
3 piece Berserker jewellery
2 piece Valkyrie jewellery
Divinity Runes on all Armor pieces, jewels are all the same stats as the jewellery themselves.
Rampager’s Shortbow (Pow/Prec/Cond Damage)
Carrion Axe and Warhorn (Pow/Vit/Cond Damage)
Superior Sigil of Ice on my SB, Superior Sigil of Perception on my Axe and Superior Sigil of Hydromancy on my Warhorn.
Why did I choose these sigils? I do have a decent crit rate, and with the Sigil of Perception adding another 11-12% crit chance at 25 stacks, I do crit pretty often on my SB.
Sigil of Ice for slowing down enemies that are running away, and I chose Hydromancy for my Axe + Warhorn set cos well, at 900 range for the axe you’re virtually roughly in near melee range all the time, and slowing enemies down for a short period of time while Axe skill 1 bounces between 3 of them is pretty darn awesome.
Do not that any procs you have can trigger from any of the enemies that you hit, even target 2 and 3 that get hit from the ricochet from Axe 1.
I chose to put the Sigil of Perception on my axe cos my reasoning was that the axe is a small aoe weap with skill 1 and 2, so the chances that many enemies that will die will be the enemies that you have already at least hit once to gain the tag and gaining the stack
I’m doing this at work so my train of thought is all over the place, I’m sure I could’ve written this in a much more comprehensible piece but oh well :P
Sea of Sorrows
My LB is Berserkers (Pow/Prec/Crit Damage), SB is Rampagers (Pow/Prec/Condition Damage), and my Axe + Warhorn are both Carrion (POw/Condition Damage/Vit).
Lvl 80 exotics are either crafted or gotten from dungeon tokens or from Karma. Karma ones tend to be more defensive, and you can also get lvl 76-78 exotics from map completions. These are at most 2-3 stat points lower than lvl 80 exotics and regularly sell for less than 80s or so so if you’re short on gold, these are very good started gear.
The rest of my gear and build are here on this thread

GW2 is still CPU Bound (straight from Nvidia)
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: Samfisher.7942
Yep, this has been an issue for months and every time the response is “the game is still being optimized”. The way I see it it’s an unfortunate “feature” of the game, the same way some other engines ended up being very CPU dependent (the Aurora engine, recent TES games).
Although Skyrim did have a very valid reason for why it was though. They had tonnes of dynamic AI everywhere you went. GW2 doesn’t have that.
