HoD since launch
As of this morning (NA), NSP has been bumped to silver league (according to mos.millenium). We shall see how the week plays out.
gj on your tanking ability Kain.
Note: My above post is for general zerging/taking objectives. This would be useless for a roamer. I don’t know for certain, but I assume maxing Guard Defense first would be ideal for a roamer.
If you are ever going to jump on siege, then dedicating the minimum points to increase your damage on that siege is ideal for anyone. 3 ranks into Flame Mastery is op. (more than 3 is useless)
Supply mastery is good too. 4 points into that will often give you supply back when building…effectively giving you an RNG supply capacity increase.
A general rule of thumb, if you are not traited to maximize effectiveness on any siege, give it like 5 seconds before jumping on to allow those that do to get on.
Here is a list (in order of importance) I give to guildies.
3 ranks in Flame Ram Mastery
4 Ranks in Supply Mastery
1 Rank in Build Mastery
1 Rank in Repair Mastery
1 Rank in Catapult Mastery
4 Ranks in Arrow Cart Mastery
1 Rank in Treb Mastery
2 Ranks in Ballista Mastery
2 Ranks in Cannon Mastery
So when the ascended weapons were first announced. Several people in my guild had one drop in the first couple weeks….Since then, no one. We are playing the same way and the same amount.
Just curious if anyone else noticed that they are falling less often or we just lucky in the beginning? (or unlucky now)
Who is going to win at losing? HoD, Kain, or NSP?
crucial caveat: the one second interval is not counted from when the condition is applied, it’s a clock-based interval, meaning that a condition with only 3/4 sec duration will still tick once if it was applied past 1/4 of the second’s start.
ie: every time the server clock ticks a second, any active conditions will trigger their damage, regardless of the condition’s remaining duration.
This is an interesting bit of info.
Thanks for the responses!
I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me on the specifics of condition duration reduction. Specifically dealing with 1 second conditions.
For example, take the ranger torch #5 skill (Bonfire) which creates a field that inflicts 1 second of burning every second for 8 seconds. Would someone with condition duration reduction take no damage from this burning since damaging conditions only tick every second?
Also, make WvW legendary weapons with no PvE required!!!
All WvW maps completed
20,000 badges
50 laurels
500,000 karmaSelect weapon.
Sarcasm I hope? These are pretty low goals. 20k Badges are pretty steep I guess…but the laurels is less than 2 months of work and I can get that much karma in a few weeks in WvW…
Took me 9 months to make Sunrise playing PvE + WvW… (I don’t play the TP and never played CoF more than maybe twice in a row…)
These people complaining about huge mobs of people…but are on high population servers. Transfer to a low population server. Seems obvious.
To each their own I suppose.
I already have ascended jewelry on my main toons, so my laurels were slowly stacking up. I spent 30 last night for some quick and easy World Ranks, don’t regret it one bit.
They suspended WvW bc of a huge mess-up when patch hit. All match ups were screwed up. They are fixing it, but we will lose all upgrades and maps will reset when WvW goes live again. We will have our previous scores but otherwise it will be like reset night.
Lag is always bad in EB…Its one of the reasons I play mostly in BLs.
But yeah, lag was terrible when I was in EB earlier this week. A whole bunch of us in HoD DC’d while defending OL.
This is a bad idea in my opinion. The number of people on during the weekend vs. weekday is very different due to work/school etc. 1 week allows for everyone to be able to play each matchup the amount of time they wish. Lets say someone can only play on weekends due to a busy schedule, should the game inhibit them because of that?
The shiny weapons brigade just leaves the uplevels to perish </3
</3 I’m sorry upleveled ele… we didn’t mean to leave you back there.
lol @ Shiny Weapons Brigade
Gratz ET on capping our way-pointed garri right from under our noses. You guys have a strong NA evening crew.
[FKB] Had some fun fights on AR BL tonight! Had several three-way battles which are always a blast. Nice showing by all this reset
The matchups are not determined until the end of the matchup prior to season start. We could give you an estimate, but that might change.
I think we would all like an estimate….with a disclaimer that things may change. I think a lot of people don’t know what to expect at all, so any insight into how the matches will be determined would be great.
So, for the upcoming Armorsmithing to 500 and eventual ascended armor, how will we be able to create soldier’s stat armor? There is currently (not that I am aware) any way to craft soldier’s armor.
I am hoping this will be fixed. I am sure I am not alone.

This was, I believe, referring to my post deleted by moderators. Not the post currently above it. Just so no one misconstrues anything.
If you made it buff supply instead of stats it would be very worthwhile.
7% more supply per area held on you Dolyaks and in your supply camps
Therefore, holding that buff will make the buff very tactical. Holding all 3 would allow you to fortify your Garrison or SM 21% faster.
I like this idea, but can see how it would be difficult to implement due to rapid changing of hands with the control points. Would the Yak’s buff be determined when they started walking or when they deliver the supplies?? I guess it makes sense to have it when the Yak delivers supplies and that seems easily implemented in the game code.
Why not both?? For instance, the reduced cost of siege construction would take place at the time the build site was started. Even if the control points flip before the siege is built, it would still be reduced based on when it was thrown. This could even be used strategically: small strike teams could be coordinated to take the control points right before Golems are thrown down in order to benefit from the reduced supply cost.
They can even call the buff: “Efficiency in Construction” – knowledge granted by places of ancient power which enables players in the mists superior engineering knowledge.
That’s my two cents.
edit: this would also not affect lag like the current system does.

Was fun introducing ourselves to HOD/ET tonight
80% of the guild was moved over to IOJ. Can’t wait for the rest to get here.
Had some encounters with you guys last night at Sunny Tower in HoD BL. You guys are tough fighters. My group got in and killed your first treb, then we got wiped in Lords room with half the ring up. Very frustrating. We then left to defend our Bay and came back later and you guys have 5 trebs up… Will be watching for your guild tag in the next few days.
Too bad we couldn’t get you guys to come to HoD instead of IoJ.
So, I know that the new map/bloodlust/etc has only been out a few hours. While this may not be a very good data set to judge how the new patch pans out…player reactions are very strongly negative….and its the players enjoying the game which keeps the game alive.
The general consensus seems to be:
New maps: Awesome, we like the change. Small teams fighting in skirmishes over control points. Fun for those who enjoy that sort of thing. The lake was stale and boring, this adds a new dynamic and map expansion people like.
Bloodlust Buff: Bad. Very bad. People don’t want server wide stat bonuses for a myriad of reasons. The winning server doesn’t want it because it destroys GvG and the feeling of actually being a better fighting group than a overpowered one. Losing servers don’t want it because it makes the winning team even more powerful reducing their chances of taking objectives and fighting the enemy. Even though a server is losing in PPT doesn’t mean they don’t have groups of very skilled players who like a good encounter with the enemy. It just means they don’t have enough people to be everywhere at once. Losing servers have an equal chance on the battlefield if the numbers are similar. Bloodlust removes that equal chance and makes it even more frustrating for the underdog.
Stomp points: Meh. I personally think its a fine addition. Most people seem to be either way on it. It does make the skirmishers/roamers help the server in PPT because ZvZ usually kills people outright while small teams use finisher.
So the simple solution would be to remove the boodlust buff and replace it with something else. This will make everyone happy (which is the goal right?).
Some options to consider:
Increased MF, WxP, Xp buffs. (kinda meh in my opinion…)
Decreased supply cost. ie: If you own the 3 control points, A ram which usually costs 40 supply to build now costs 35. Can be scaled in multiples of 5. This will actually benefit the losing server more than the winning bc of zerg numbers. I like this option.
Increased karma/gold/xp gain for event completion.
Simply give control points PPT contributions. Kinda lame option if you ask me, we have enough PPT sources.
Who is this new ET? You guys have a good chance at #2 I think. Last time we met you beat us when we were up against Kain (and stupid PvE events pulling most of our playerbase), I am hoping to not repeat that
As for IoJ, I felt like my group could not go anywhere without running into a ton of you guys last night…. Hoping it cools down later in the week.
HoD, we have had a few rough weeks with unbalanced matches. Lets stay out there and give our enemy the good fight.
See you guys on the battlefield!
Then don’t craft one. I for one am very happy it will not be able to be bought/sold on TP. People always want the easy/quick way. The game is clearly playable with only exotics, as it has been for a year. Ascended would just be icing on the cake. If you want a few more stat points and damage, then you will craft one. If not, no harm done.
Quoted from Sinister’s image: “STACK FOR THE LOVE OF HOD!”
Ching Sea, this is my new favorite phrase.
Skip to the “****” if you don’t feel like reading the story behind my post.
I really wish there is something which can be done about Spies/etc in WvW. Today, I spent several hours upgrading Bay by running Yaks, retaking camps, and upgrading supply deliveries. The full 9 yards. I eventually got the desired upgraded walls, gates, and a waypoint. I then stopped there and let the supply build to 1000/1000 for siege/repairs when the inevitable attacks began once again. Our Bay was sitting pretty, ready to be defended.
Eventually, as one would expect, a well planned attack was made on our Bay. No problem, I called in for some reinforcements and some came. Definitely enough to hold out against the force at hand. That is until someone, I don’t know who, decided to start two upgrades right when the attack began. They started merchants and fortify keep —- which promptly drained our supply and we were left helpless. Eventually losing Bay.
I know this cannot be an isolated problem, and I know we have had spies in the past. But I feel like there can actually be something done to prevent this in the future.
“****” There should really be some way of stopping or pausing an upgrade to a keep/tower after it has begun. This would help prevent trolls/spies from causing grief before an impending attack. I know that this could also be abused, but I am sure safeguards may be able to be put in place.
At the very least, put a log on each of the purchased upgrades telling you the character who started the upgrade, so that everyone can be made aware.
The problem is people want two things that ANet just flat out stated they are never going to do. And I believe ANet is hesitant to expand on dueling because of the backlash when these unreasonable expectations are not met.
1. Stat advantage – Most players I’ve seen that are so adamant about dueling insist PvE or at least WvW scaling, and ANet has already stated that will never happen. If dueling is implemented, it will be with PvP scaling. An even playing field or nothing at all, and a lot of players don’t want that, they want to abuse the system (and their fellow players) as they do in every other game.
I agree with your #1 completely. Dueling should always be same playing field, which is why I believe it should be confined to PvP only. I do think there needs to be an in-game dueling option however. Even with the option of challenging random people to a duel. However, that option should only be available when you are in the mists. If someone accepts, you are put into an instance with the other dueler. Party members could even be given the option to join in the instance as spectators.
Rules in the duel should also be different. First off, no downed state. Upon death, both players are immediately re-spawned into a staging area, where you can have the option to go again, or one of the spectators can take up the challenge. To begin the fight, in order to be fair, each dueler will be placed behind a gate, with say a 5 second timer at which the gate will open and the match begins. (think Elder Scrolls Oblivion)
Back to my main point, there should never be any open world dueling option. Have it in PvP setting or nothing.
PS: Love the Doctor Who gifs GoM…keep it up
After being harassed ruthlessly, there will be no more gifs, no more doctor who, no fun, no anything.
This makes me sad…
Every server complains when they are up against superior numbers. They whine “Your whole server is made of zergs!” “HoD has no skill” …to make themselves feel better. HoD is no different. We complain and a lot of people rage quit when we’ve gone up against Kaineng…or Borlis Pass. This week, HoD came out strong on reset (motivated by the matchup with our old buddy GoM…we have waited a few months for this roll), and kept that strength through the weekend. I am am proud of our server this week, Fairweathers and all. Expect gloating and kitten-talk from HoD this week people. But take it as it is: a server on a high after being beat by ET when Crown Pavilion came out >.<
That being said, HoD has a lot of small roaming groups and a lot of zergs. Just hope you run into one before the other. But don’t be surprised when a zerg rolls over a couple guys running around alone or in small groups. Maybe they were running to meet up with a larger force. This is war after all. WvW will never be zergless. Could you imagine? Entire maps full of 5 man roaming teams? Would never happen. Strength in numbers. Its natural.
PS: Love the Doctor Who gifs GoM…keep it up
This is how we treat our commanders here on HoD.
No Mercy.
I wouldn’t say “we” … most HoD people are generally polite and nice to one another. I think you are the exception… not the rule.
Simple request following:
No one enjoys double clicking thousands of times to consume all of their karma drips/drops/etc. Give us an option to consume all of them at once so we can get back out and enjoy the game.
Thanks!
I can do this. I will start with my male ranger.
Person above me. Love the facial hair/skin tone. Don’t care for the armor. But then again light armor for males is awful in this game.
6/10
edit: added one where you can see more of armor
(edited by Sean.8274)
I too would like this achievement (posted in suggestions before about it).
As for people saying “it would force you to buy gems”: it would not. You could always delete a character and make a new one of a different profession. Yes that would be stupid and it would just be easier to just get a new character slot… but it would still achievable without ever actually buying a new slot.
Also, like all achievements….totally optional.
Maybe I am very lucky, but when I run obsidian sanctum for the Living Story stuff I don’t run into problems with enemies. Most of them ignore me and I ignore them.
The only time I had have been killed by someone in Obisdian Sanctum was by someone on my own server griefing me and my friends with the fire traps. A kitten move to be sure. Luckily someone kind felt bad for us and gave us a port.
My first experience in WvW as a PvEer was in order to get my map completion (as it is for many PvEers). In this sense, WvW was a stressful place trying to run around by myself getting Vistas and POIs all the while having to watch my back for enemies. I felt like some scared little primate in a jungle of predators.
Since then, I decided to try WvW to play it for what it was and told myself I would learn how to do this. I have now been playing in WvW a good 30-40% of my time for the last 5 months and I enjoy it quite a lot.
This may not work anymore now that the game is almost a year old… but my suggestion to make people want to try out WvW is to gather up PvEers in LA under the guise of map completion. If you have a sizable guild, advertise in LA that you are going to be taking over an enemy BL and people should come with if they need map completion. This will keep the PvEers safe and give them something they want all the while showing them the advantages of WvW and how to play it.
I see now…seems overly strict in my opinion. But whatever.
I found forty-five so far… (why is the number version censored? o.O)
Did a little experiment. It works properly if the sigil is in the main-hand weapon, but not reliable if in the off-hand for whatever reason.
I was definitely in combat. Walked up to enemy. Hit it, switched weapons, no might. Waited 10 seconds switched weapons again (still in combat) still no might.
Thanks Khisanth
Update: They seem to work sometimes. Do they share a cooldown with the sigil of strength???
I am a Mesmer. I have Sword/Focus and Scepter/Pistol.
Sword has Superior Sigil of Battle
Focus has Superior Sigil of Strength
Scepter has Superior Sigil of Bloodlust
Pistol has Superior Sigil of Battle
The battle sigils do not give me any might on weapon swap. The sigil of strength does work.
What I don’t get is the “advantage” that they are worried about. Racial skills are not allowed in sPvP, so there is no problem. WvW is more about population and coverage than actual skill – besides, making racial on par with profession skills would not hurt WvW too much imo. And PvE, there is no “advantage”…everyone is on the same team.
The main crux of my argument, and maybe where me and devs differ, is that I feel there are not enough different builds out there, I want a diverse world – not just a bunch of zerker warriors running around with an occasional mesmer. I think choosing your race SHOULD factor into how you play more than just how you look.
yeah, you have a fair point there about balance.
I am going to be one of “those” people and bump my own post from a month or so ago. But I was thinking about this again…
Maybe I am alone? Either way here is one possible improvement: My Norns have all these transform spells. On the face of it, it sounds awesome and was one of the things that made me want to roll a Norn before the game came out. However, in practice, they don’t last long enough, and have very long cooldowns. (plus most of the skills are mediocre). Shorten the Norn transform cooldowns and let us stay in these forms longer. Hell, let it be a toggle like engi kits.
Another advantage of moving together: If you go down, no one has to run over to your body to rez you. If you are close to the group, it is easy to get several people rezzing at once and you are back on your feet quick.
Yes combo fields have limit of 5 as well (edit: blast finishers in combo fields have aoe cap). But if you have several people doing it, lets say half the zerg gets a might boost. That is better than nothing. Think of the entire zerg’s dps. Not individuals.
Other skills such as the mesmer veil do not have the same aoe limit. So a zergball could theoretically be hidden running into battle. Imagine 30 people suddenly appearing in the middle of your zerg.
And yes, ball up tightly is a proven better tactic. If you have been around WvW awhile you should have seen successful pushes vs. unsuccessful ones. Balling up usually means for a successful push. Even against larger numbers. A zergball’s damage comes concentrated and fast, rather than from many directions and slower.
(edited by Sean.8274)
1. Masking numbers.
2. AOE benefits (area might/swiftness etc)
3. Using their /supplyinfo mechanic
4. Moving as one ball into an opposing zerg usually has better results than disorganization.
There are probably more.
Yeah, the scepter is a bit lackluster. I do like the addition of torment, but overall, its damage is lacking, especially the auto-attack. I tend to spend very little time on Scepter+Pistol….really only to get out my phantasm and an interrupt…I will throw a #3 scepter at them, then go back to Sword+Focus. For boss fights where I don’t want to be anywhere near the boss (ex. Lupicus) I will put on the GS instead of Sword+Focus.
Was just wondering if any other mesmers use the pistol off-hand in PvE? My build is a phantasm zerker. My weapons are Sword+Focus, Scepter+Pistol. I have tried a GS instead of scepter+pistol, but honestly, I prefer my scepter+pistol over GS.
It seems everyone ALWAYS uses GS/Sword+Focus. I am not looking to get “converted”; I was just wondering if there are any other weirdos like me.
The build is successful, I can two-man Arah P4 with another mesmer until we get to Lupicus….
I can understand rangers being weaker than some in dungeons….I have two rangers. One for general WvW and one for sPvP, I don’t generally take them into dungeons. I have warriors, guardian, mesmer (etc) for that.
But rangers are by no means the worst in a WvW zerg. This shocked me. Here are some of the benefits I have found running a full zerker LB/SB ranger in WvW.
The longbow, while too slow in small scale fights, is excellent in a zerg battle. Especially if traited for it. Barrage (#5) is an aoe cripple and high damager (also an excellent way to farm badges). Point blank shot (#4) is a good way to save someone from being finished before you get there to revive. Rapid fire (#2) can finish off anyone downed from a distance. Piercing arrows trait? No explanation needed there.
If traited, a ranger has 12 seconds of “endure pain” (taking no damage from attacks) available through utilities. More than enough time to revive someone caught under arrow cart fire or get into towers to defend. Or to simply get away from a failed push.
As for the pet in a zerg, get a ranged pet and stay on the outskirts. You are a ranger, so range! The rest of the zerg is your meat shield.
Barrage is second only to staff elementalists for aoe on walls.
Healing spring: water field.
For taking camps (especially with a 2 man team), Entangle (elite) can keep all NPCs in the camp clustered, immobilized, and bleeding until they are dead. NPCs are too stupid to get out of vines. Makes taking camps a cake walk.
Granted this is my opinion on the matter, others may have had different experiences. I think the hate for all the rangers out there comes from either not knowing how to play with yours adeptly, or being on a team with someone who didn’t know what they were doing.
