Your top 5 priorities for WvW-Overhaul

in WvW

1. DBL is not fun. While many people want the simple fix of bringing Alpine back. I think if you just simply give us gliding on DBL only (not EB), that would fix a lot of complaints with DBL regarding map size and ease of travel. Also, remove the gimmicky effects of the map – they are just annoying and not fun for either side.

2. Give us a reason to win for our world. There is no incentive to win anything other than fights. Which while fun, has no direction. You have done well with giving us an incentive to win PvP with leagues and reward tracks — WvW needs some of that love.

3. In order for #2 to work, there needs to be a system in place to correct for huge population imbalance and ‘night-capping’.

4. Make ranks useful even after you have maxed your masteries. Give us a reward track or something for ranking up.

5. CC too strong

How to make Guild Cata/Golem?

in WvW

Sean.8274

My guild automatically unlocked guild cata and guild golem upgrades in the war room because we had them unlocked preHoT, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to actually queue any up to make new ones.

I think it may be scribe, but there is no information on the wiki about what level scribe or what materials are needed.

Any help please?

Would be best to get another armor/weapon/trinkets anyway since most people use berserker for pve and that aint the best one depending on class for wvw by far.

Um, there are lots of viable (and meta) WvW builds which use zerker armor/weapons….

Suggestion: Interchangeable Rune/Sigil Slots

Let’s say you have a very expensive hard to get ascended armor set (or weapon). You put a good rune set (eg. Scholar runes) into it for dungeons. But then you want to WvW with that armor and would like a different rune set in it. You can either: Create a separate, new set of armor and put the new rune set into it, which is expensive and clutters your inventory. Or you can replace the Scholar’s runes which would destroy them and lose lots of gold.

Why not have an upgrade available to all ascended weapons/armor (Legendaries would automatically have the upgrade applied) which you can interchange runes/sigils without destroying either the item or rune/sigil. This upgrade could either be obtained through crafting or questline (or even the forge).

I know there is an upgrade extractor….but 99% of the time it is cheaper to just buy a new rune, so no one ever uses them. There has to be a better way! Also, this would give ascended armor an advantage more than just a tiny stat boost.

A new axe called The Executioner.

It would look like a stylized executioner’s axe. When it is drawn, a soul rises from the blade and releases a faint scream. It also gives the wielder a smoky black aura which swirls around the axe and up the arm and collects around the user’s feet (like standing in black mist) and it has bloody footfalls.

Poll: What is the size of your guild?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sean.8274

Sean.8274

Your definitions of guild sizes are a bit weird. I’d say anything below 50 is a small guild, as you won’t get more than 10-15 people online at a time unless you’re an extremely focused/hardcore guild. If you’re a casual guild, good luck getting even 5 online at a time.

I.E. my guild Faerie Law has a roster of 45, but around 15-20 active and can manage at most 10 online at a time consistently during our prime time WvW raids (usually 5-7, cycling through the 15-20 active players as they log in and log out). That’s not a lot of numbers and can’t be considered a “large” guild.

Well, I did ask for active members… not roster size.

I also explain my logic in guild sizes earlier in this post.

Ideally, a more comprehensive poll which polls for active players, primetime numbers, number of guildies who actually play together, etc would be nice. In essence, I am trying to get a feel for the capabilities of the guild which people are members of. A 100 member guild which only ever has 10-20 people playing together at a time is really only a 10-20 person guild.

But then what about international guilds? Multi-guild communities (TTS and the likes) that have 200-300 players online 24/7? Or maybe even 100 man guilds that have 10-15 online through the entire day? How can you measure that activity?

I don’t know, and honestly a poll this simple can’t gauge that kind of variation. From the results of the poll thus far (albeit tiny sample size), there is a significant fraction of the playerbase which do not fall into what I called large (which is quite small compared to many guild rosters).

It would be my assumption that most people fall into a few categories:

  • Member of a huge international guild, have a few friends in the guild but by and large you don’t know everyone else in the guild. Good for world events etc. (example: TTS)
  • Member of a large focused guild (example: big names in WvW)
  • Member of guilds with a lot of members on roster, but basically a casual group of people that might pop in guild chat asking if anyone wants to do a dungeon etc. These guilds have a core group of players and a lot of vagrants.
  • Member of a small guilds consisting of friends who only play with each other, everyone knows everyone.

My case in point is this: A large/mega guild can do anything Anet wants to throw at us with updates to the way guilds function. But at what point do smaller guild get left out of the picture, and more importantly, how much of the playerbase falls into this category.

Poll: What is the size of your guild?

Sean.8274

that’s a funny way to measure sizes you know.

We have came back to Guild Wars 2 a month ago and currently according to this poll we would fall into the very large category (just over 50 people), with anywhere between 8 to 20 active every day (so our activity would be medium), even though we’re extremely casual and did not impose any activity rules.

I would really consider anything below 50 to be really small, 50 to 100 small, 100 to 200 as medium and 200+ large.

And then activity should be measured in % really kitten out of 5 people active is better than 5 out of 250 people active.

Yeah, someone commented about this on reddit as well and in hindsight, I should have explained my thoughts on the breakdown a little better. I broke them up in groups based on what I thought were similar in ability, not just raw numbers. For example, a 60 man guild has the same capability in the game as a 200+ guild. The differences in ability start to become much more important at the lower end. Think of a group of 10 people running around in WvW versus a group of 40.

Personally, I would consider “active” being someone who logs in regularly (whether its every day or every weekend) and plays with other members of the guild. Its one thing to be part of a mega-guild and only show up for missions, and a different thing to actually log on and actually play with your guild.

I wanted to get a feel for the size of guilds that most people play in primarily. Especially with the upcoming guild features in HoT, I hope that smaller guilds are not left out. So this poll is to get a handle on the distribution of people in very small (<5), small (5-15), medium (15-30), large (30-50) and very large (50+) guilds. Please vote on your primary guild (ie: not your mission guild, etc.) and only include your active players. Personally, I am in a small guild of about 7-8 active players. We mostly WvW, dungeon, and play in meta-PvE events together and would love to build our own guild hall and do new guild things together…

Why bring another profession when you could simply add more skills to existing professions.

I am for this too, at the very least. Adding new weapons and skills to the game is essentially what I want in a new class. That is, a new and different way to play.

Forget new races, I want new professions!

I don’t understand the huge desire for more playable races (Tengu, Kodan, etc). They are nothing more than different looks since all of the racial skills are crap. What would really be interesting would be new professions and weapons instead! I would love to learn a new class with new weapons instead of the same old professions with a new species.

Is there something I am missing?

Yes, with a new race it is logical to assume there would be a new map region including race city, starting area etc. Even if they added it onto an existing region similar to how Asura and Sylvarie are part of Maguma region Anet should include a city, begining zone and 2nd zone with a new race.

No reason we can’t have a plethora of new maps without new races. To me, it actually makes sense to open other parts of the world and introduce different fighting styles (new professions) and different weapons based of different cultures etc. In GW1 we went to Elona, we got the Paragon and Dervish; we also went to Cantha and got the Assassin and Ritualist. Making the Tengu a playable race would open one map, maybe two. Nothing on the scale of an expansion. Same goes for the Kodan.

Besides, once we are done exploring the new starter zone and race storyline, we are back to exactly the same place we were before. Same classes, same WvW, same dungeon meta, same everything…oh except now people can look different.

Some suggestions for dungeon kicking

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Sean.8274

Sean.8274

Here are some of my suggestions on how to fix the dungeon kicking issue in the new “no owner” situation.

  • Option 1: No Kicking
Simple, no kicking option for players online/active. Players who are offline/inactive can still be kicked. The party UI would have a timer next to their name if inactive for more than 5 minutes. An option to kick would then show up.
  • Option 2: Require 4 votes to kick 1 person.
Same system we have now, except increase the requirement on votes. The system (ideally) is in place to prevent that one kitten from being a pain and trolling your dungeon. Problem here is that people can still be kicked (sellers probably).
  • Option 3: Instance starter immune to kicking.
Could be paired with Option 2. The starter of the dungeon can not be kicked (unless offline/inactive).

Suggestion: Improving superior siege creation

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

At the moment, trying to make superior siege in mass quantity is painfully awful. Having to double click each component at the mystic forge hundreds of times is a bit ridiculous. There have probably been multiple suggestions and complaints about it… but I thought I would throw in a new one. Just a simple QoL improvement which would make everyone who makes superior siege love you long time.

I suggest either one of two options:

Easy option: Put a level 0 crafting recipe for each siege type in Weaponsmith.

Less Easy method: Put a siege forge in WvW which you have the option to upgrade your siege provided you have the components. The kicker: you can make several at once just like crafting.

I can see Primer+Cake being very effective for low level characters however as the stats are not lowered and you can buff yourself pretty heavily early on.

Your 100b is a channel skill. So it is much more than one hit. You are seeing the cumulative damage from the entire channel with your last swing.

Edit: The damage you see is also dependent upon your target’s armor. So unless everyone is hitting the same target in the same conditions (vulnerability etc), the numbers posted here are rather useless.

HUH? Siege Disabler that disables enemy siege

in WvW

Posted by: Sean.8274

Sean.8274

Is there some sort of internal cooldown on siege before they can be disabled again, or can you just chain disable them forever if you have a steady stream of supply and people with grenades? Is there going to be some sort of indicator that someone is throwing one of these so you can react to it and try to block/reflect it? Because as it stands it seems like it’ll be extremely hard to predict when or where exactly one of these is going to be thrown.

As far as I can tell, there is no internal cooldown. You can chain the debuff as much as you have supply for. The debuff does not stack though.

As for an indicator of it being thrown, I would imagine no. People will have to learn the telegraph or simply chain reflection/projectile blocking skills.

What I want to know is if the “grenade” is reflected, will it disable enemy siege where it lands? Because that will be hilarious. I can see it now: commanders raging about pugs throwing siege disablers from right next to rams and having it reflected…. lol

HUH? Siege Disabler that disables enemy siege

in WvW

Posted by: Sean.8274

Sean.8274

Siege disabler actually looks cool. It’s freaking out people that just want to karma train through WvW instead of have a strategy, which is good.

Actually it makes defensive siege worthless….so it “fill_in_blanks” the defenders.

I don’t think you understand how siege or traps work. This will be a huge benefit to defenders, not to the offensive focused people.

Meaning no disrespect but I understand Precisely how siege and traps work… and this is not a trap in the sense that the enemy trips it, rather it is referred to as a Trick by the Anet representative…….that can be AOE targeted just like a grenade from a range of a longbow (1200) with the AOE circle being around 450… if it touches your siege it is not working for 45 seconds…. so Clearly this is BAD for the defenders…. and actually quite good for the mindless zerg wanting to take down a T3 tower…..

In my opinion this actually makes it harder to defend and I suspect a lot of the players will think hard about whether it is worth bothering to spend the time and money buying and building siege.

This is good and bad for both attackers and defenders. Defenders to counter this would need to place ac’s and other siege in places the tricks can’t reach. Attackers, in my opinion, now have it worse. A single guy with 10 supply can stop 5 rams or catas (maybe 10) from firing for 40 seconds. That guy could then go back get more supply and throw another trick once the siege is active again. This would make defending easier. And since its a thrown trick all you have to do is step on the walls edge and toss.

This guy has it right. Sure, it could hinder defense. But it can hinder offense much more. In defense, you can still place siege behind walls which cannot be hit by any AoE. These can be used to take out rams at the gate from the inside. Trebs can be used to take out catas or other trebs, and can (and should) always be placed in a “safe from AoE” spot. Sure, its not going to slow down 30 omega golems, but were you ever really going to?

This is beyond wrong. Are the people at Anet aware of the fact that there are tons of really dedicated WvW players and commanders who are not sitting on gazillions of gold, they spend money on WvW upgrades, Bufffood, Siege Weaponry etc. and play a (financially) very unrewarding part of the game just because they like it. I have to say, this, again, shows the complete misconception and lack of understanding concerning WvW issues.

As much I hate dissing the devs, I agree 100%. If this really was their brilliant plan, I’m just hoping they give it a lot more consideration.

I agree, they should really reconsider and soon. They have a few weeks to hopefully realize how stupid this is and change it to something more reasonable (hopefully free color changing).

Otherwise, I see them eventually changing their minds a few months down the road after copious amount of complaints from the playerbase and then having to sort though all of the refunds for people that went ahead and bought it.

I can understand raising the price of a tag to 300 gold if that unlocks it for the entire account. This is fine.

But to charge another 300 gold for a different color!? This is outrageous. The point of different color tags is to facilitate the splitting of zergs and objectives in WvW and PvE coordinated events (Teq,Wurm) without confusion. Divide and conquer. “Follow blue tag for main zerg, red tag is havoc, etc.”

By gating the system behind 300g per color, the vast majority of people will stay blue, thus defeating the whole point of implementing the change. The color of commander tag shouldn’t be a vanity issue. “Oh, I like purple, so I will only command in purple.” It should be purposeful and useful. This cannot happen if no one is able (or willing) to spend extra money for a different color.

Well I can’t speak for the “meta” or whatever others use. But when I roam in a small group with a warrior I use knights armor and trinkets with zerk weapons. The extra toughness is nice and with perma fury my crit chance is in the 80%-90% range.

I can see some major griefing with this… imagine, anyone could tag up and take a piece of siege then sit on it.

On this subject however, they do need to allow golems to be taken by the person who dropped it like any other siege.

Swift Wings achievement not doable

in Living World

Posted by: Sean.8274

Sean.8274

I cannot speak as to the difficulty of the achievement yet. But to the OP, have you even considered changing your build for this situation? Achievements should be more difficult and perhaps require you to alter your strategy, and are also completely optional. If you had already tried a different build and gone full DPS or whatever and still cannot beat it, then there may be some room for complaint and sympathy.

What if there was a jumping puzzle which had a jump which required swiftness to make. (remember, JPs are completely optional, just like achievements) Lets say you had no access to swiftness with your current build. Should you come here asking for a nerf instead of just finding a way to grant yourself swiftness?

Regarding the builds, I don’t see why some people prefer using 0/5/0/6/3 over 0/6/0/6/2. With the 0/5/0/6/3, are people using sigils of Battle? I keep the 0/6/0/6/2 with sigils of Strength + the dungeon-specific sigil and I’m doing very fine to keep my 25 stacks. Can someone explain the preference for 0/5/0/6/3?

I use 05063 for fast hands with Axe/Mace… extra vuln with mace plus eviscerate and axe auto chain better than GS auto while HB is on cooldown.

Tootsie Immune to Stuns?

in Living World

Sean.8274

A Thief with off-hand pistol should be able to ensure that she never gets away simply by holding a Headshot in reserve.

By far the easiest way to keep stuns consistent. Best thing is, you only need one thief to do it every time so everyone else can focus on DPS. As the thief, don’t look at the moa… just keep watching for the “Take Off” bar on the right. When it shows up, headshot and then keep auotattacking (save your initiative).

To all those complaining about "Not enough"

in Living World

Compare GW1+22 months to GW2+22 months content-wise. Sure they are 2 different games, but the same company, different business model. The GW1 model offered more and more importantly, better content for cash.
While in GW2, we get less and inferior content (compared to GW1), for free.

I love the GW franchise and i am willing to pay for quality content. The way things are, i will still play the content, but refrain from buying any gems with real money.

I don’t get why people keep comparing GW1 releases and GW2 releases… they are two very different games and I would imagine building content for GW2 is significantly more difficult than its predecessor.

Don’t get me wrong, I have my own beef with Anet (mainly the ‘support’ staff) which makes it so I (or any of my guild) will never buy gems again…. but I don’t see the development staff sitting around not trying to push out good new content to us. They obviously listen to the complaints and have made big changes to the game because of it. I like the changes which are being made and new direction to the LS and look forward to what will be put forth in the future.

I am not saying everything is perfect and that the development team has it spot on… but give them a break, I am sure they are working hard to give us a great game. But apparently (and I will steal a term from another poster) you can’t ever please the locusts. They will always want more.

2 weeks? I somehow remembered that the serious content packs will be released each month now and in the meantime we’ll be getting features and balance.

I don’t have proof, but I seem to remember that feature updates will be standalone from living story (ie: major feature packs like April) and living story will continue with the two week schedule. Perhaps a dev or someone with a piece of evidence can confirm or deny.

To start, I am impressed with the new living story. I thought the story missions were well played out and at times more challenging than old stories which is nice. The new map has interesting new boss encounters and an entirely new aesthetic which is awesome! My only complaint is lackluster achievement points for LS achieves…I am a bit of an AP hunter so this was a bit of a let down.

But for all those complaining that they wanted/expected more… think of the Living Story as a television show; every week (2 in our case) there is a new chapter in the story to tell, you watch it, maybe rewatch it, and wait until the next episode. Some people don’t like to watch their TV shows that way – they wait for the season to complete and then watch it all at once. You can do that here too… wait several months for all the LS to come out and then do it all at once if that is your style.

Yes Dry Top is small, but it has a good bit of content stuffed into it. Also, judging by the “Regions” achievement tab….we can expect several new zones throughout the season I would imagine.

I spent several hours in the new zone and story instances last night. I actually listened to the character interactions and followed along with the story. I had a good time. Just sit back, relax and enjoy the new content. Don’t rush everything and then ask for more…

Well this has me super excited. I hope the new map is a REAL map though and not an incomplete desolate map like southsun was.

It needs POI’s and Vistas and Skill Points and Hearts (Hearts aren’t needed if there are enough events).

Edit: What weapon is that in the 10th picture? Is it new? I don’t recognize it.

New map looks to have PoIs, skill points, and vistas. No hearts from what I can tell. (Based this off preview videos by Wooden Potatoes)

[Poll] New classes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sean.8274

Sean.8274

A new class would most likely be heavy armor since there are 3 light, 3 medium, and 2 heavy currently. I can see a new class having heavy armor with medium HP as the obvious choice.

Of your list, I don’t like any of them honestly and think that most of them are simply small niche roles or what other classes already have/should have.

Of the other guild wars classes I can see being added, either a Paragon or Dervish type class could be introduced fitting the missing Armor/HP role. Or perhaps a hybrid class which uses Pikes (2H), Scythes (2H), Javelins (dual wield), Dagger, Pistol, Shield, Sword.

Pikes could deliver slow but massive damage while being able to stay out of traditional melee range. Ie: While still being melee, I could hit a warrior, but the warrior could not hit me unless he closes the distance. Could also have quick moves like staking your pike and using it as an anchor to deliver a quick kick.

Scythes would be multi target sweeping and cleave type weapons with access to CCs like sweeping the legs of the enemy (knockdown + cripple) and access to things like torment and bleeding.

Javelins would be hybrid melee and ranged weapons and could be equipped either main hand, off hand or both. Autoattack would be range with the other skills being a mix.

Emphasis for party help could be a mix between Warrior and Guardian. Where the warrior delivers mostly offensive buffs and guardian mostly defensive buffs and healing. The Paragon/Dervish could focus on providing a mix of both. For example, the guardian can apply a multitude of retaliation, stability, aegis, and regen. Warriors give lots of might and fury. This class could focus on protection, fury, and vigor.

F1, F2, F3, F4 could be different avatars which you can activate and gives you different effects. Ie: Zerk mode (Balthazar), Condi cleanse and heals (Dwayna), Defense mode (Melandru), Conditions and CC mode (Lyssa). Kind of like Death Shroud but active for less time and less skills. (ie: 3 per avatar)

I could probably go on ages with making this stuff up…
